JJ Redick And Ty Lue Among Names Considered For New Lakers Head Coach

After their exit from the playoffs, the Lakers have officially fired Darvin Ham. Now, the LA franchise is looking for its next head coach. According to reports, the Los Angeles Lakers have started an “extensive” search for a new head coach to succeed Darvin Ham. Darvin Ham coached the Lakers for two seasons, leading them to the Western Conference title last year and two play-in wins in two years. The first-round exit sealed Ham’s fat, and now, the search is on for the next Lakers head coach.

Candidates reportedly include former Milwaukee Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer, Golden State Warriors assistant coach Kenny Atkinson, and most interestingly, ESPN analyst JJ Redick and current Clippers coach Ty Lue. JJ is currently doing a podcast with LeBron James and someone LeBron respects in the basketball world. Ty Lue won a championship with LeBron in Cleveland and is one of the coaches who got the best out of the 39-year-old vet.

JJ Redick And Ty Lue Are Lakers Coach Candidates

Many fans believe LeBron is grooming JJ Redick as the next Lakers coach because of their podcast Mind The Game. LeBron and JJ talk about basketball, dissecting plays and trends and looking at the game from a pure and knowledgeable point of view. JJ and LeBron have chemistry on the pod, so maybe they will be on the sideline. The Charlotte Hornets recently expressed interest in JJ becoming their head coach. The Lakers will also jump at the chance to scoop up Ty Lue if he becomes available. The Lakers need a lot more than just a new coach, and this offseason will address their many issues.

The Lakers still need to sort out LeBrons future. LeBron James has a $50 million player option next year. He has expressed that he wants to play with his son, Bronny. The Lakers may take Bronny in the 2024 NBA draft to make Lebron’s dream come true and keep the King happy. Overall, the Lakers need a coach, but also a lot more. It has been reported that they will attempt to overhaul their roster this summer so a new coach will have a better team, in theory.

Ty Lue Fined $35K For Accusing Refs Of Cheating

Ty Lue has been fined $35K for accusing the refs of “cheating” during the Clippers’ tense game against Golden State earlier this week. “Where James at? The referee. I want to kick him in the mouth,” Lue was heard yelling in reference to referee James Williams. Lue was ejected after earning a pair of technical fouls during the fourth quarter and following a brief scuffle between the two teams. After the Lue was explicitly heard accusing the refs of cheating.

Down big, the Clippers mounted a late-game comeback in the fourth quarter to eventually beat Golden State by five. James Harden and Paul George combined for 50 points as the team notched its 36th win of the season. Did Draymond Green Flex His Rings Or Threaten A Shanking Versus The Clippers?

However, Lue’s comments were not the only story to come out of the Wednesday night matchup. Fans are debating how to interpret a clip of Draymond Green from the game. A very intense Green was seen showing four things toward an unknown party before making a sharp, staccato motion. Several fans have argued that this was Green threatening to shank someone. However, others have countered by arguing that Green was merely flexing his four championship rings.

Draymond had nine points, 10 rebounds, and four assists in the five-point loss to LA. In three games against the Clippers this season, Green is averaging 14.3/8/4.3. The blowout loss dropped the Warriors back to .500 at 26-26. The team currently holds 10th in the West, courtesy of Utah being 0-3 in their three more games played than the Warriors. Up next for Golden State are the Jazz. That is followed by a three-game homestand against the Lakers, Hornets, and Nuggets.

Ty Lue Comments On Paul George’s Availability

Ty Lue spoke with the media on Friday, ahead of the Clippers playoff start. The Clippers will open playoff play with a difficult matchup against the Phoenix Suns. However, the Clippers may not be at full strength during the series with the Suns. Clippers star forward Paul George has been out since March, dealing with an injury. George missing the series against the Suns will put the Clippers in a massive hole. But Lue isn’t worried about rushing George back into the lineup.

“We’re definitely not gonna do anything to hurt PG even if he does try to come back. If he’s not right, then we’re not gonna let him injure himself and make it worse than what it really is.” It has recently been reported that George wouldn’t be available for the series against the Suns. Now it looks like Lue is confirming that report without actually confirming it. The loss will be huge in regards to how the Clippers will defend Phoenix star Kevin Durant. Without George, the Clippers will need to look to Kawhi Leonard for a great defensive performance.

Ty Lue Will Not Rush Paul George Back

A lot of teams have dealt with the injury bug. Recently the New Orleans Pelicans dealt with a big injury in Zion Williamson. Williamson’s absence from the team was a factor in the team missing the playoffs. Not only will the Clippers be dealing with injuries. But so will the Phoenix Suns. Suns guard Chris Paul isn’t 100%, as well as Durant. However, neither team will be looking to blame injuries on their playoff success.

Lue knows just how important George is to the Clippers, But that doesn’t mean rushing back his star player to further damage him physically. George’s injury couldn’t have come at a worse time. However, that is how it goes sometimes. Injuries are unexpected and a part of the game. Ty Lue and the Clippers are just unfortunate victims of the circumstances. Without George, do the Clippers stand a chance against the Suns? Please give us your thoughts on the state of the Clippers in the comment section.
