Trump Referred to The Department of Justice for Criminal Charges in Connection with Jan. 6

Donald Trump Reportedly Teases 2024 Presidential Run at CPAC

Former President Donald Trump has been referred to the Department of Justice for criminal charges for his role in the Capitol Riots. The January 6 committee recommended Trump should be held accountable for “a multi-part scheme” to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

“The president has an affirmative and primary constitutional duty to act to take care that the laws be faithfully executed,” said Rep. Jamie Raskin at the hearing. “Nothing could be a greater betrayal of this duty than to assist in insurrection against the constitutional order.”

The investigation into the matter lasted 18 months and received a unanimous 9-0 vote in referring to the charges of obstruction of an official proceeding, conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to make a false statement, and incitement of an insurrection.

In addition, referrals for chief of staff Mark Meadows, attorney Rudy Giuliani, and more were passed to the DOJ. The DOJ does not have to pursue the charges.

Donald Trump is currently gearing up for another presidential campaign.

Trump Organization Found Guilty Of All Counts Of Tax Fraud

A Manhattan jury officially handed down a guilty verdict in the Trump Organization’s trial surrounding allegations of tax fraud. According to CNN, the court found Trump Corp. and Trump Payroll Corp. guilty of a 15-year tax scheme. They were accused of failing to accurately report and pay taxes on payments to the top executives of the company. The jury found Trump Org. guilty of criminal conduct and criminal tax fraud.

Authorities did not charge Trump or his family in the case. However, authorities mentioned the former president a few times. They believed that Trump had direct connection to issuing benefits. Prosecutors, specifically, focused on personal expenses, car leases, and apartments funded by the company. However, the prosecutor, Joshua Steinglass, argued that Trump played a significant role in sancitioning tax fraud.

“This whole narrative that Donald Trump is blissfully ignorant is just not true,” Steinglass said.

At this point, the company could face paying nearly $1.61M in fines. The Trump Org. will face sentencing in mid-January, but it likely won’t impact the business itself. Trump Organization won’t dissolve under New York State law. On the other hand, a felony conviction would certainly affect the Trump Organization’s ability to do business, receive loans, and land contracts.

In addition to seeking bipartisan solutions to immigration reform, Trump advocated for the reintroduction of earmarks as a way to break the legislative stalemate in Congress. “This was a case about greed and cheating,” Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said. “The Trump Corporation and the Trump Payroll Corporation got away with a scheme that awarded high-level executives with lavish perks and compensation while intentionally concealing the benefits from the taxing authorities to avoid paying taxes. Today’s verdict holds these Trump companies accountable for their long-running criminal scheme.”

Allen Weisselberg, an employee of the company that’s on paid leave, testified in court that he should’ve paid taxes on compensation, which amounted to nearly $200K annually.

Elon Musk Reveals He Would Reverse Trump’s Twitter Ban

One of the fears of Elon Musk purchasing Twitter was the reinstatement of Donald Trump to the platform. Musk has recently revealed that is one of his plans.

CNN Business notes Musk was on hand at the Financial Times Future of the Car conference and publicly acknowledged his bid to buy the bird for the first time.

“I do think it was not correct to ban Donald Trump, I think that was a mistake,” Musk said. “I would reverse the perma-ban. … But my opinion, and Jack Dorsey, I want to be clear, shares this opinion, is that we should not have perma-bans.”

Musk added, “Banning Trump from Twitter didn’t end Trump’s voice, it will amplify it among the right and this is why it’s morally wrong and flat out stupid.”

Trump was suspended after the January 6 Capitol Riot as he used the platform to incite violence. Trump has not confirmed that he would return to the forum if allowed.

Musk is closing on a deal to purchase Twitter for $44 billion.

Trump Calls Putin A “Genius” For Ukraine Invasion

Trump might’ve gotten kicked off of every social media platform but we sure still do hear a lot from him. The former President shared his thoughts about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and admiration for Russian President Vladamir Putin on the right-wing radio show The Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show.

The former President, who was impeached for allegedly threatening to withhold aid to Ukraine unless it could hurt Biden, praised Putin for his military strategy while also saying that none of this would have happened if he was still President.

“Here’s a guy who’s very savvy … I know him very well,” Trump said about Putin. “Very, very well. By the way, this never would have happened with us. Had I been in office, not even thinkable. This would never have happened.” Trump went on to praise the Russian President for declaring two regions in Eastern Ukraine independent and calling the invasion a “peacekeeping” operation.

“I said, ‘This is genius.’ Putin declares a big portion of Ukraine, Putin declares it as independent. Oh, that’s wonderful,” Trump said. “So, Putin is now saying, ‘It’s independent,’ a large section of Ukraine. I said, ‘How smart is that?”

The White House responded to Trump’s remarks during a daily press briefing.

“As a matter of policy, we try not to take advice from anyone who praises President Putin and his military strategy, which I believe is what happened there, [or who] expresses an openness to lifting sanctions about the seizing of territory in Crimea, or at any point in time, told leaders of the [Group of Seven nations] that Crimea is a part of Russia, regardless if they are a former president,” Press Secretary Jen Psaki said.

Rudy Giuliani Improbably Popped Up On ‘The Masked Singer,’ Causing Judges Ken Jeong And Robin Thicke To Storm Off In Protest

Warning: This post contains spoilers for Wednesday night’s episode of The Masked Singer.

If you ever find yourself working directly for a disgraced leader who’s been accused of corruption and fascism and are worried about your future, fret not! You can always find a second life on some trash game show. Sean Spicer, who bullied and lied to journalists as Donald Trump’s first White House press secretary, improbably wound up on Dancing with the Stars. Sarah Palin, recently seen jeopardizing the health of New Yorkers by dining out after testing positive for COVID, was among the unmasked (in more ways than one) on The Masked Singer.

Speaking of, as per Deadline, on Wednesday’s episode of the singing-themed reality show, the big reveal was so shocking it reportedly prompted two of the judges to storm off in protest. Who could be that polarizing? Why, it’s Trump’s cash-strapped, legally doomed, accident-prone personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani.

When one of the masked singers was revealed to be one of the key players in Trump’s failed attempts to overturn democracy, judges Ken Jeong and Robin Thicke furiously fled the scene. The other two judges, Nicole Scherzinger and Jenny McCarthy, who was anti-vaxx before everyone else, remained and engaged in some banter with the guy responsible for such classics as “Four Seasons Total Landscaping” and “Mystery Black Goo Pouring Down Head.” Jeong and Thicke eventually returned.

In any case, it’s probably a bit too early to be normalizing alleged crooks who have yet to have been punished. But then, Rudy probably needs the dough.
