While hip-hop has only just now produced a No. 1 album over halfway through the year thanks to Lil Uzi Vert, R&B started out on a strong note thanks to SZA’s SOS. The TDE artist’s sophomore effort has spent a total of eight weeks championing the Billboard 200, only being beaten out by country star Morgan Wallen’s One Thing at a Time. Aside from the “Kill Bill” singer’s major success, other favorites in the genre have given us noteworthy new releases over the past months too.

Our annual round-up of the year’s best rap albums so far is primarily male-dominated, with Sexyy Red’s Hood Hottest Princess earning her the only woman on the list. R&B, however, has heard incredible new arrivals from our favorite female vocalists, including Kiana Lede’s highly anticipated follow-up to 2020’s KIKI. Of course, we didn’t totally forget about the guys – two of Canada and Jamaica’s finest also left us impressed with their R&B LPs earlier in 2023. Kali Uchis – Red Moon In Venus

Not only did Kali Uchis captivate the world with her sensual Red Moon In Venus LP, but she also passed some major career milestones. The songbird’s third studio album debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 with over 55K, marking her first Top 10 entry on the list. Across 15 titles, Uchis connects with Summer Walker as well as frequent collaborators Omar Apollo, and her boyfriend, Don Toliver.

Red Moon In Venus arrived at the beginning of March, and weeks later the bilingual artist went on to perform several tracks from it at Coachella. Both weekends Uchis had arguably one of the best sets, bringing out guests like Tyler, The Creator, and Toliver. Speaking of the Cactus Jack artist, his girlfriend appeared on his Love Sick album’s “4 Me” single prior to dropping her own project.

“‘Red Moon in Venus’ is a timeless, burning expression of desire, heartbreak, faith, and honesty, reflecting the divine femininity of the moon and Venus,” Uchis previously told Consequence of her work. Janelle Monae – The Age of Pleasure

For Janelle Monae, The Age of Pleasure is more than just an album – it’s a sexual revolution. As we saw throughout her long-awaited LP’s rollout, the Kansas native is feeling more confident and carefree than ever before. Her breasts have been a focal point of the genre-bending work, appearing on the digital cover art, vinyl, and in front of thousands of fans at various live performances over the past few months.

The 37-year-old shared “Float” with Seun Kuti and Egypt 80 as her first single, later following it with “Lipstick Lover.” The latter came along with a salacious teaser video that left the internet lusting after Monae like never before, also confirming her first studio album in over five years. Our personal favorite collaboration on the tracklist is “Phenomenal” featuring TDE’s Doechii, though Grace Jones, Nia Long, Amaarae, Sister Nancy, and CKay make appearances as well.

Daniel Caesar – NEVER ENOUGH

Daniel Caesar’s debut album, Freudian, remains a staple in the rotation of many R&B lovers. Unfortunately for the Canadian, his fame was short-lived after he made controversial comments about race during a live stream that ultimately found him facing widespread cancellation. His sophomore effort, CASE STUDY 01, was largely skipped over as a result, even though it features stunning vocal work from Caesar.

By the time he shared his third LP, NEVER ENOUGH earlier in 2023, the embattled artist had thankfully moved back into the public’s good graces. Caesar teased us with singles like “Please Do Not Lean” featuring BADBADNOTGOOD, “Always,” and “Do You Like Me?” all of which only made fans fall more in love with his dreamy voice. Aside from vocals, the 28-year-old also flexed his producer skills alongside little brother Zachary Simmonds, Sir Dylan, Sevn Thomas, Rami, and Raphael Saadiq.

Kiana Lede – Grudges

The most recently released alum to land on our must-listen list of R&B releases so far this year comes from sultry songbird Kiana Lede. Her follow-up to 2020’s KIKI came in the form of Grudges, an undeniably toxic project that’s perfect for anyone who might be struggling with any pent-up resentment toward an old friend. The 26-year-old immediately catches our attention with “Bitter B**ch – INTROlude” and laces in collaborations with Bryson Tiller, Ella Mai, and Khalid throughout the 18-song tracklist.

During an interview with Vibe, Lede gave some insight into the inspiration behind her sophomore album. “‘Grudges’ actually has multiple meanings in this album. Obviously, there’s the [literal one]. I’m a bitter b**ch [who] definitely [has] grudges. I hold them very well. I’m working on it. I’m in therapy,” she admitted.

“So grudges towards relationships, also grudges just in my life. It’s something that I feel like we all constantly have to work on, whether it’s relationships or within ourselves, within the world,” Lede also told the outlet.

Masego – Masego

R&B music is typically most appreciated in the chilly winter months of cuffing season, but when a Masego song comes on, it’s hard not to fantasize about a romantic trip to the tropics at any time of year. It had been nearly two and a half years since his Studying Abroad project arrived when the Jamaican singer delivered his 14-track, self-titled LP. The former saw him teaming up with a handful of friends including Shenseea and Don Toliver, but on the latter, he operated solo.

Fan favorites on Masego include “What You Wanna Try,” “Black Anime,” and “Sax Fifth Avenue.” Whether you’re seeking to pretend you’re on the beach while tanning in your backyard this summer or need a soundtrack for an evening of dancing with friends, the 30-year-old has you covered with his long-awaited, must-listen record. He’s got a few live performances lined up over the coming months, including one at AfroBeats Festival in August, so fans will even have a chance to enjoy Masego’s new music in person before fall hits.

ASAP Rocky Albums Ranked: “Long.Live.ASAP” And More

A$AP Rocky boasts an incredible discography, from his 2011 debut Live.Love.ASAP to his ultra-experimental, Testing. These days, we’re anticipating the release of his next studio album. He dropped a few notable solo singles in the past few years including, “Babushka Boi,” “D.M.B,” “Shi*ttin’ Me,” and “Same Problems?” The latter appears to be the first single for his new album. Rocky performed the song for the first time at Amazon Music Live in December 2022. During an interview around this time, he said he finished the album while confirming ALL $MILES as the title. As we wait for the album’s rollout to begin, we have ranked the previous entries in his discography.

4. TESTING (2018)

Though it’s not A$AP Rocky’s best album, it’s easily his most creative — and divisive. “A$AP Forever” marked the first single from the album, though the remix featuring Kid Cudi and T.I. appeared on the official tracklist. “Praise The Lord (Da Shine)” is easily one of the album’s most successful songs, thanks to the hypnotizing flute melody and bouncy flows from Rocky and Skepta. Rocky took a risks across the album, experimenting with different sounds and textures, leading to both praise and criticism. With features ranging from a jail call from Kodak Black to a rare appearance from Frank Ocean, there are plenty of noteworthy moments all over the album.

3. LONG. LIVE.A$AP (2013)

This was A$AP Rocky’s debut album and for some, his best. This album captured various soundscapes that Rocky thrives in and truly had something for many types of rap fans. “1Train” brought together seven lyrical heavyweights at the time while “Wild for the Night” banked on the popularity of dubstep to create a quintessential party rap banger. Meanwhile, tracks like “LVL” and “Pain” found Rocky back in the hazy, psychedelic-esque rap he was known for. “Phoenix” found him focusing his technical proficiencies and lyricism through internal rhyme schemes. Rocky showcased his diversity across the album and his ability to effortlessly adapt to a range of production styles. Some of Rocky’s references are dated/show his immaturity but that doesn’t stop the project from being a time capsule of his career.

2. AT. LONG. LAST. A$AP (2015)

This album was released after the passing of Rocky’s friend and mentor, A$AP Yams. Across the album, Rocky showcased his maturity as he detailed navigating through fame and the loss of his close friend. However, it also further showcased Rocky’s unmatched ear for production highlighted through the arrangement and beat switches. “Back Home” stands as one of the best, though overlooked, songs in his discography. Rocky’s verse shows him flowing at an elite level and the Yasiin Bey feature that follows it, while short, still resonates with listeners.

1. Live.Love.A$AP (2011)

Though not an album, Live.Love.A$AP remains an integral part of A$AP Rocky’s discography. Deemed as “cloud rap,” his debut project introduced the world to his “trill” sound that merged East Coast sensibilities with Houston’s chopped-n-screwed sound. Production from his day 1 collaborator Clams Casino ensured the hazy psychedelic sound is cohesive across the project. However, it was A$AP Ty Beats that produced the break-out singles, Purple Swag” and “Peso.” Only in 2022 did the project find its way to streaming services. When this happened, the project was re-released with a song titled “Sandman” which was recorded around 2019. Much to the approval of listeners, it fits right into the tracklist.

Westside Gunn Songs: Rapper’s Best Collabs

Westside Gunn has accumulated a multitude of songs in his discography. The Griselda artist treats each one of his albums as a piece of art. This includes ones he released himself or others he executive produces. He has often spoken of taking pride in bringing artists together. Since he is into visual art, too, it’s only fitting he uses the term “curator” in his list of titles.

Over multiple projects, Westside has gotten features from expected and unexpected artists. Several names make multiple appearances even if years pass between them. Westside has built a reputation for himself and gained respect from multiple names in the rap world from the past and present. We’ve gathered some of the best collaborations across his continuously expanding discography.

“Gorilla Monsoon” feat. MF DOOM (2017)

This is a Westside Gunn song that needs no introduction. MF DOOM is respected, praised, and loved, and his legacy continues to shine despite his passing. Westside Gunn released a two-track pack with him, appropriately named WestsideDOOM. This is the first track in the pack, and Daringer produced it. The title comes from the wrestler of the same name. Any Westside Gunn listener knows he’s been referencing and sampling WWE/WWF his whole career. The eerie string, big loop, and dusty drums allow Westside and DOOM to deliver slower-paced flows. However, this makes their words stick, especially DOOM’s. His flow is even more calculated and delivered almost matter-of-factly. Rhymes are found at the beginning and end of several of his bars. Listeners praised Westside for crafting a verse that pairs well with DOOM’s, making this a universally celebrated track.

“Good Night” feat. Slick Rick (2020)

This Westside Gunn song has a legendary artist on it: Slick Rick. This track comes from Westside’s album, WHO MADE THE SUNSHINE. Additionally, this is Slick Rick’s second feature on the album. In this track, both Westside and Slick Rick are in their storytelling bags. Naturally, this stems from Slick Rick’s classic track “Children’s Story,” which Westside references in the final bar of his verse. The two tell vivid stories filled with imagery and a sequence of events that showcase their pen games. The fact each of their verses is part of the same story makes the track even more special. Producers Beat Butcha and Daringer provide a sparse eerie and grimy beat that enhances the mood of the stories they tell. Listeners were delighted to hear Slick Rick after all these years and they praised Westside for being able to secure a feature from him.

“Free Kutter” feat. Jay Electronica (2021)

This is one of the shorter songs in Westside Gunn’s discography. Though that doesn’t stop its impact on listeners. Jay Electronica is one of the most elusive rappers in the game. His features are rare but have become more common since he finally released his album A Written Testimony in 2020. Jay Versace is on production on this track and samples a xylophone which makes it worth listening to based on that alone. Jay Electronica’s verse not only references other rappers but also pop culture subjects like Star Wars and actors. His delivery is effortless as he drops double entendres and wordplay techniques with smoothness and ease. Listeners have zoned in on the ones that resonate with them most. They also praised Westside for securing a feature from him and how each of their verses truly gave the song a ’90s feel.

“GODS Don’t Bleed” feat. Benny The Butcher & Jadakiss (2018)

This song brings Westside Gunn and his labelmate Benny together with another New York native, Jadakiss. At just under five minutes, it is one of the longest songs on this list but it’s worth the runtime. When this was released in 2018, many hailed it as Benny’s best verse or even the best verse of the year. The way his flow complimented the eerie sample loop from producer Daringer causes listeners to not even realize his verse is around two minutes long.

“716 Mile” feat. Boldy James (2021)

This is another Westside Gunn song where he lets the featured artist have their time to shine. Boldly’s lyrical content outshines his significantly. He weaves in biblical references and punchlines with his usual coke rap subject matter. This is a testament to his skill as a writer and also shows he either was heavily exposed to the Bible growing up or he still reads it regularly today.

This is easily one of the more unique beats on this list as well. Camoflauge Monk provides a sample loop that’s not exactly melodic but still has percussion. Additionally, the percussion is not even from drums but from what sounds like cymbals clashing. He paired these with some guitar strums and an eerie synth. The fact the two of them could rap over it shows they have mastered the art of unique beat selection and listeners can attest to this.

“Forest Lawn” feat. 2 Chainz and Armani Caesar (2021)

This Westside Gunn song has been praised for two reasons, both of which are the performances from the features. Listeners have praised 2 Chainz for several of his features across the years and cited this one as an example. Listeners also praised Armani Caesar‘s feature and saw it as solidifying her place on the Griselda label. Hers is the unique verse on the track because of a special arrangement. It has background vocalizations on it from Armani herself. Her harmonies playing while she raps is something most listeners have never heard before. Her delivery was in her aggressively confident lane, while 2 Chainz was more energetic with his flows but still impactful. Camoflauge Monk’s looped string sample gives the song a faint eerie feeling.

“Horses on Sunset” feat. Stove God Cooks (2022)

This song comes from one of the more divisive albums in Westside Gunn’s discography. Titled Peace “Fly” God, the album is ten tracks and, according to Westside himself, was made in two days. Despite listeners’ opinions on the whole project, this track stands out for almost everyone. Legendary producer Madlib provided the beat for this one, and that alone is enough for many of them to rate it so highly. His samples all sound like they came from a late-night lounge performance. This contrasts Stove God’s creatively violent hook well, whose energy stays low-key. However, Westside Gunn brings his usual high-volume flow, whose imagery contrasts the subtle mood while aligning with it in other moments. This track is another reason listeners continue to wait for the Madlib and Westside Gunn collab project, GunnLib.

“327” feat. Joey Bada$$, Tyler, The Creator & Billie Essco (2020)

This song introduced Westside Gunn to many. With features from Joey and Tyler, he brought their listeners into his world. This song comes from his album Pray for Paris, whose sequel And Then You Pray For Me releases June 23, 2023. The song’s production comes from his frequent collaborator, Camoflauge Monk. He crafted a moderately paced luxurious track for the four artists to rap over. The keys are spaced out and glisten across the subtle boom-bap drums. Billie Essco’s relaxed hook helps keep the mood calm throughout the track. Each artist brings their own flavor to the track, contrasting in subject matter, delivery, and flow. This makes the track unique because it is still cohesive. After all, one theme remains constant amongst them: luxury. 

“The Cow” feat. Conway The Machine (2016)

This is one of the best songs in Westside Gunn’s discography-and it almost wasn’t even in his. Listeners have praised this verse as the best verse in Conway’s career. The subject is centered around Conway speaking about how he was shot, which led to Bell’s Palsy, losing his cousin MachineGun Black and the things he went through after it. His album, God Don’t Make Mistakes, builds on his speaking on most of these topics. This makes sense, considering he revealed this song was supposed to be the intro track for that album. Considering all of this, many listeners did not like Westside Gunns’ verse on the song. He does not follow Conway’s path and doesn’t deliver a sentimental, heartfelt verse. The output of songs from Boldy James deserves to be celebrated. The Detroit rapper dropped four projects in 2022 and has already released one this year. All of these projects were also producer-exclusive collaborations. This showcases his chemistry with various producers and range as an artist. Each project has a unique sound, and Boldy adapts to them all.

His signature monotone delivery and bleak subject matter bring many listeners in because it helps his stories stick. Boldly was involved in a car accident this year but has since fully recovered. Interestingly enough, he actually dropped a project the week this happened. For many, this was a testament to his work ethic. However, Boldly seems to be on a well-deserved break at the moment. Flatbush Zombies’ Top Streamed Songs

Flatbush Zombies are a trio of rappers from Flatbush, Brooklyn, New York, that have been making songs for years. It consists of rappers Meechy Darko, Zombie Juice, and Erick The Architect. They were a part of the Beast Coast movement in the 2010s. Known for their unique production from Erick The Architect, the group mixed third-eye and drug talk with effortless, clever wordplay. However, recently, the focus has shifted to each member’s solo work. They have not broken up or alluded to doing so anytime soon. Zombie Juice is gearing up to release his solo debut Love Without Conditions on April 21. Because of this, we decided to go down memory lane and look at their top streaming songs as a group.

10. “Sliders” – Meechy Darko feat. Flatbush Zombies and Col3trane (2022)

This Flatbush Zombies song is unique because of the artist credits. Meechy is a member of Flatbush Zombies, but since this is actually a solo single from him, his other two group members count as features. Furthermore, Col3trane is an artist Erick has worked with before too. The Zombies mostly stay in the rap lane on this one while name-dropping various brands. The flows are quick and concise. Col3trane handles the hook with smooth sung vocals. Erick’s verse has a small moment of a rap-sung flow too. The production features keys that are just as smooth as the hook but the drums, specifically the snare, truly stick out. Even considering all these highlights, listeners think there could be more to the song since it ends so abruptly.

This Flatbush Zombies song is definitely a deep cut in their discography. The song is on a compilation project called Loosies from Brooklyn-based indie label Fool’s Gold. The song’s title pays homage to the legendary rap group Wu-Tang Clan. Erick’s production does, too, with a simplistic bass line, eerie melody, and simple drums. Many listeners were surprised about Meech’s verse on the track. It’s not because of what he said but how he said it. Often, he will opt to play up the raspiness of his voice to give it even more character. However, he forgoes this on this track and keeps his energy low-key as well. This was a wise choice as it fits in with the production’s tone.

8. “Afterlife” (2020)

This Flatbush Zombies song is a single that’s not on any full projects. One of the most important draw-ins for this song was its music video. In it, the trio is shown through what looks like an X-ray machine. Various other people, animals, and items join them in the video, creating a unique and eye-catching visual. This one is special because it was produced by James Blake. He also worked with Erick on other music. James crafts an eerie soundscape for the trio that features deep bass, skittering drums, pianos, and eerie sirens. Various other sound effects pop in throughout the song, too. The biggest indicator that James produced it is how his looped vocalizations are part of the production. This one has Zombie Juice singing the hook, with Meechy Darko giving him backup vocals.

7. “Smoke Break (Interlude)” (2016)

This Flatbush Zombies song is the interlude on their debut album 3001: A Laced Odyssey. It comes in exactly at the halfway point of the project. Over minimal drums and a psychedelic melody, Erick and Zombie Juice sing about the joys of one of their favorite activities. They both have slight vocal filters on their voices, which enhances the atmosphere of the song. This track serves as the perfect bridge between the two halves of the album due to its pacing. Zombie Juice’s sung moments sound as relaxed as the production floating around him. However, this is the first song on this list that does not feature a verse from Meech. Perhaps this was done to keep the track the length of an interlude since it hit the two-minute mark. 

6. “A Spike Lee Joint” feat. Anthony Flammia (2016)

This is another one of the more peaceful songs in the Flatbush Zombies’ discography. It’s also another rare one with a feature from an outside artist. Anthony Flammia sings the hook on the song and has what appears to be background vocalizations on it, too. His airy vocals are between rapped verses from Zombie Juice and Erick. Both of them take moments in their verses to reflect on things they did in the past and how things have and haven’t changed since then. Since Erick’s production is slower-paced here, Zombie Juice decides to bring the energy with his delivery. Erick opts to keep things smooth as Anthony’s vocals within the production are turned down but continue during his verse. Furthermore, there’s also a saxophone woven into the production, which gives the track an even more relaxing feeling.

5. “Left Hand” feat. The Underachievers, Nyck Caution, Kirk Knight and CJ Fly (2019)

This Flatbush Zombies song comes from the Beast Coast supergroup album Escape from New York. It has eight people on it but lasts just over three and a half minutes, an average song length. This was achieved by the fact each person’s verse is a quick eight or so bars. Many of them also used a fast flow during their verses. This structure also allowed Meech’s hook to be used throughout the song. Keeping in line with the third eye talk associated with Beast Coast, each verse (and the hook) uses the word/letter “I.” Most artists on the song also reference their relationship with Flatbush Zombies, showing their relationship extends beyond the music. All of this happens over production from Tyler Dopps and Sam Wish. They provide a mysterious melody and skittering drums that give the song a mysterious yet energetic feeling.

4. “Distance” feat. Issa Gold, Joey Bada$$ and Erick The Architect (2019)

This song only features one member of Flatbush Zombies. The verse on it comes from Erick The Architect. This is a short one from the Escape from New York album, but there’s still quality in its length. Joey Bada$$ is on hook duty and uses a casually sung delivery. His tone is as light as the keys from Powers Pleasant’s song production. Issa Gold of The Underachievers sets the tone for the rapped verses with his closing bars accented by ad-libs. Joey’s verse followed a similar structure but used echoed backup vocals instead of ad-libs. However, Erick’s verse is primarily absent of both of these techniques, but he is also the most energetic. It also has the most abrupt ending, which in a way, makes it the most impactful.

3. “New Phone, Who Dis?” (2016)

This is the longest song from Flatbush Zombies on this list. It’s another cut from 3001: A Laced Odyssey. This one is a standout for several reasons amongst listeners. One, the first time the hook is heard, there’s a sound like a phone ringing on vibrate that’s used. Many of them said this moment made them think their phone was ringing. Next, this track features what’s helmed as one of Meech’s best verses. For almost two and a half minutes, he flows without taking a breath. He also uses multiple flow switches and weaves in references to Coming to America, Futurama, and Fetty Wap. As he does all of this, the beat almost stays the same but has a few moments where new sounds come in to keep things interesting. Erick and Zombie Juice’s verses are before and after his, but he had the most significant effect on listeners.

2. “Headstone” (2018)

This is a unique Flatbush Zombies song on this list. For one, it’s the only song from their second album, Vacation in Hell. The title also serves as a double reference for the group’s name and the song’s subject matter. Each member’s verse is packed with song and album references to hip-hop artists from the past. These artists have either passed away, or their music is “dead” compared to the current popular rap artists. All the references are to artists that have influenced the group somehow. Listeners have spoken about picking up on a new reference almost whenever they hear the song. It is an example of the creativity of the group’s lyricism and how they are still students of the rap game.

1. “Bounce” (2016)

This is the most popular Flatbush Zombies song besides some tracks from their mixtapes. It features a full verse from all three members and no hook. This allows each member’s style to be displayed as each follows the next. Erick’s verse is unique because it references other songs from the group’s discography. The first is “Thug Waffle, ” their first hit in the underground rap world. A brief soundbite of the song’s instrumental plays during his mention. He also references their song “Palm Trees,” which was one of their first hits outside of the underground scene and it has a remix with Snoop Dogg. Meech and Zombie Juice’s verses trade in sentimental moments like this for animated deliveries and flow switches.

It may not be accurate to say the songs Larry June makes are “underground.” He’s got around 3 million monthly listeners on Spotify, and fans often use his tracks in social media posts. Many people are also drawn to him for his motivational subject matter and relaxing production. His latest album, The Great Escape, is a collaborative project with megaproducer, The Alchemist that arrived today (March 31). Fittingly, Larry takes the opening portion of his verse to reflect on his past. But, like Joey, his true focus on the verse is the present. Joey references Larry in the closing moments of his verse. He acknowledges they are from opposite coasts but still have similar lifestyles.

This song is the first single for Larry June’s Spaceships on the Blade album. With Jake One on production, Larry uses this to showcase his rapping and singing abilities. Larry raps his verse, but the ad-libs are melodic. This creates a soft contrast throughout his verse, complimenting the song’s tone. Blxst holds down production, too, and crafted a beat that sounds modern with old-school elements. Since he is also a West Coast native, he knew what would work best for them. This song is from June’s project Out the Trunk. In this song, he reflects on his past and where he’s at now. Larry’s verses are built around his hook, and this is a song that encapsulates many trademark aspects of his overall sound. 2. “Watering My Plants” – Larry June (2020)

This track was included in Adjust to the Game. In the second verse, the rapper speaks of his plans for a woman he is with. However, many listeners probably are drawn to it for the sample: “Everybody Loves the Sunshine” by Roy Ayers. This is one many people have used on social media for the song’s hook, “Let me water plants.” Larry has a little fun with this chorus as he changes it to “your plants” to fit the narrative of the second verse. Others remember when he planned to outsell a certain artist—and he didn’t. Some may remember when he first entered the acting world. Fif also did double duty by creating a soundtrack for the movie he starred in. Nowadays, people know 50 for his Power television series and its various spin-offs. He’s also known for saying all kinds of things on social media—mainly about viral moments that don’t really concern him. Still, he would not have reached the level he’s at today without his foundation in music. Here, we’ve revisited his catalog and ranked his Top 10 most streamed songs.

10. “Window Shopper” (2005)

This song is from 50 Cent’s soundtrack album Get Rich or Die Tryin’: Music from and Inspired by the Motion Picture. 50 discusses his ability to buy things on a whim. He shares that people who can’t shouldn’t be mad at him because he can. The music video showed different prices on the screen of things 50 and Mase are buying. Meanwhile, the prices of things other people have in the video are shown, and they are much lower. However, Mase’s cartoonishly large $75 milkshake and 50’s normal-sized $400 burger are fun visual jokes. This song actually has two music videos, with one having clips from 50’s movie, Get Rich or Die Tryin’ in it. This remixed version was featured on Olivia’s album, Behind Closed Doors, but it’s still listed as Fif featuring the singer. This cross-promotion benefited them both because she was on G-Unit with 50 Cent. In this one, 50 speaks to a woman who placed him in the friend zone. He wants to have a relationship with her, but she’s already taken. She says they’re just friends, and 50 responds to this by interloping a chorus from Biz Markie’s “Just A Friend.”

8. “Disco Inferno” (2005)

This is the first club song from 50 Cent on this list. Listeners may remember when he was dominating the game, and this is a lane he excelled in. His verses paint a picture of what happens in the club when he hits the spot, including name-dropping the bottles he orders. His flow is easygoing and pairs well with the production. 5. “Just A Lil Bit” (2005)

This is another club banger from 50 Cent. It also is another on this list to host a legendary producer. This time, production came from the one and only Scott Storch. 50’s verses once again discuss his activities when enjoying a night at the club. However, this time, he declares that he does dance – but uses old moves. In this song, we actually get a bridge from 50 and an instrumental from Scott Storch. Further, this song’s melody has a sitar—an instrument with a distinct sound.

4. “21 Questions” ft. Nate Dogg (2003)

This is one of the sentimental songs from 50 Cent. Many of his hits center on 50’s interest in women, but this time around, he’s going for a more emotional angle. He’s telling his lady friend what he can and wants to do for her, and he questions her loyalty. Nate Dogg is on the song’s hook and outro and drives home the song’s theme with his own inquiries. The guitar gives it a smooth feeling within a track that isn’t aggressive. This one has over 460 million streams on Spotify today, released in 2003.

3. “P.I.M.P” (2003)

This is one of 50 Cent’s biggest songs. Like an earlier entry in this list, the song has an exotic instrument in its production: a steel drum. The track has a tropical vibe, combined with a party atmosphere. On this one, Fif discusses his involvement with a woman who he won’t let get in the way of his other endeavors. How he approaches the topic is yet another facet in the multiple ways he’s discussed women in songs. The song’s hook directly contrasts other perspectives and mindsets he’s shared previously. Contrastingly, his second verse lines up with earlier perspectives he’s discussed. 

2. “Candy Shop” ft. Olivia (2005)

This is another song on the list with Scott Storch at the helm of production. The hitmaking producer brings more exotic-sounding melodies to the beat. Additionally, Olivia makes another appearance. Fans compared this song to another of Fif’s hits, “Magic Stick” featuring Lil Kim. 50 stated he didn’t want to be “vulgar or obscene” in his verses for “Candy Shop,” but his innuendo isn’t difficult to decipher. Olivia’s feature comes in for the second half of the hook and some reinforcement of 50’s bridge. Meanwhile, Storch admitted the production for “Candy Shop” was first intended for Fat Joe.

This is 50 Cent’s most popular song. It currently has over one billion streams on Spotify. Dr. Dre also produced this, and it is one of his most recognizable beats. For most, this song’s “birthday” parts are what they remember. The track also has a rich history. It’s one of the seven songs 50 recorded with Dr. Dre in only five days. It wasn’t originally going to be the first single for his debut album, but it won in a coin flip. They did this because Eminem picked a different song for Fif, and Dre wanted this one. It’s only fitting that 50’s biggest song has a story involving all three hitmakers.
