The Game Admits It ‘Hurt’ Being Left Out Of The Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show Lineup

This year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show was led by Dr. Dre who brought on a star-studded cast of acts for the show. Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, Snoop Dogg, Anderson .Paak, and 50 Cent all joined him on stage for the epic performance. Afterward, it appeared that The Game, who’s collaborated with some of the aforementioned artists on multiple occasions, implied that he should’ve been among the performers for the show. However, he later denied that he was upset about being left out of the show. “I don’t feel no way about not being included,” he said at the time.

A few months later, The Game has now backtracked on his denial. The topic came up in an upcoming episode of the I Am Athlete podcast — led by Brandon Marshall, Pacman Jones and Nick “ Swaggy P” Young. The episode was teased in a preview clip. “The real reason I wasn’t on the Super Bowl [Halftime Show] is because I’m not a ‘safe’ artist,’” The Game said. “You don’t know what the Game gon’ do when he get up there. So, it’s just like, ‘He not safe,’ so they went with the safe artists.”

He continued, “We, on the West Coast, are the only motherf*ckers who have this crab-in-a-barrel mentality, where we wanna keep n****s down. Snoop Dogg is icon. Dre is icon. Em is an icon, but Em is not from L.A. 50 is not from L.A. I’m not taking away from the fact that they’re were on the Super Bowl, but L.A. [artists] wouldn’t have been in the Detroit Super Bowl or New York Super Bowl. It just wouldn’t have happened … L.A., L.A., L.A. all around the Super Bowl and I didn’t get the call.”

The Game then admitted he was “hurt” that he was left out of the lineup. “I talk to Dre often. I just know if I was Dre and he was Game, he would’ve been up there,” he said. “That’s just it. It’s L.A. I am L.A. I’m in the streets … So, yeah, I was hurt. Now am I bothered by it today? I’m not bothered by it today.”

The Game Salty About ‘The Documentary Not Being Named In Rolling Stone’s Greatest Rap Albums List

The Game to young rappers advice

Rolling Stone’s magazine dropped their list of the 200 greatest hip-hop albums of all time list this past week and was scolded for their egregious takes on hip-hop music. Some people even took to social media to say how bad the list was, noting that some classic albums had been left off the list in favor of more recent albums that have not nearly had the same impact or acclaim.

One surprising omission was of The Game’s debut album, The Documentary. The Game responded to being left out of the list on Twitter, citing that he carried the West Coast for 20 years with his debut album.

@RollingStone how is “The Documentary” not on the list for 200 Greatest Rap Albums Of All Time ?” The Game tweeted. “I carried an entire coast for 20 years on the back of my 1st album. Cause I don’t walk red carpets, play dress up, smile or fake laugh at brunches I don’t count ? #Drillmatic July 1st.”

This is not the first time however that The Game has felt like he has been disrespected. He aired out his grievances to Ebro, T.I., and Funk Flex for leaving him out of their 50 greatest rappers of all-time list.

“@oldmanebro @funkflex & @troubleman31…… I ain’t forgot about these lists… #DRILLMATIC coming soon…. HURRICANE GAME LIVES y’all shoulda just threw my baby mamas in there too !!!!”

The Game Reveals Chris Brown and Chlöe Bailey Collaboration

The stars are aligning for Drillmatic.

During an interview with Mike Tyson’s “Hotboxin’” podcast, The Game revealed that his new album will feature a collaboration with Chris Brown and Chlöe Bailey. The unnamed track samples Janet Jackson’s Velvet Rope single “Got ’til It’s Gone.”

“Today I just got a record with Chris Brown and Chlöe Bailey done, which is dope,” he told Tyson. “We did that literally today and that was the last song for the album.”

Game and Chris are no strangers to collaboration, working together on tracks like “Celebration” and “Pot of Gold.”

When Drillmatic drops on July 1, the album will also feature appearances from Kanye West, Lil Wayne, G Herbo, and NBA YoungBoy.

“I like to say that it’s probably my best album to date,” said Game. “I kinda bridged the gap between old and new. I’m real hip-hop oriented and a student of the game, but also appreciate young Black rappers getting up out the ‘hood and being able to use music of any facet to take care of their families and better their life. So I’m mixing old school with the new school.”

Game is confident that his first album in three years will raise the bar. “It’s the perfect timing for someone to stand in the gap of old hip-hop and new hip-hop and put out a project that is really dope from the production, lyricism, everything,” he said. “I don’t know why I’m this good this late in my career, but the album is probably my best album.”

During the interview, he also discussed his relationship with 50 Cent and the late Nipsey Hussle, who he called a “dear friend to me, a brother, comrade, and one of the realest ni**as I ever met in life.”

The Game Weighs In On The Use Of Lyrics Young Thug’s RICO Case: ‘I Think That’s Bullsh*t’

Ever since being arrested last month on charges of racketeering, Young Thug has received plenty of support from the rap community — even from unexpected sources, like YFN Lucci‘s lawyer, who called the RICO case against Thug “racist.” The latest of Thug’s peers to weigh in on the ongoing case is The Game. The Compton rapper appeared on Complex with Speedy Morman where he discussed a number of topics, including the case against Young Thug and YSL Records and the use of lyrics as evidence in it.

“I think it’s bullsh*t,” he said, with no equivocation. “Because when Sylvester Stallone plays Rambo, and he’s shooting up motherf*ckers, get in trouble in real life, they not gon’ bring up Rambo 1 through 5, and be like, ‘You’ve been violent your whole career.’ It’s entertainment. And these days, a lot of rappers are cappin’ in their music — I’m not saying that Gunna and Thug are — … but there needs to be a law passed where they cannot use rappers’ “entertainment” lyrics in a court case.”

There’s good news for him on that front; the state of New York is getting nearer to passing a law limiting the use of lyrics in criminal trials — and others, from Jay-Z to Bobby Shmurda, support its adoption nationwide.

Young Thug is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

The Game to young rappers advice

The Game has been in the news lately, doubling down on his lyrical abilities. He’s event went as far as saying that he could out-duel Eminem in a verzuz battle. That verzuz battle is probably not happening, but the Game’s bars will still be on display on June 17th when he drops his new album.

Although Game didn’t list any title tracks, it is confirmed that Hit-Boy will exclusively produce Drillmatic. The Game has high expectations on this album. HE is super confident in his rap abilities. He said his album would be the best album of all of 2022.

“I know my album gone be the best album of 2022 cause the energy feels like I just signed my deal. You’ve never heard me rap like this, I promise you,” he wrote. “When it drops, I promise you that if you put your ear to it you will then understand why I’m the best rapper alive. My controversy has always stepped on my greatness, but that’s all about to change. This album has a strong hold on being the best album of my career.”

The Game Claims That 50 Cent And Jimmy Iovine Paid Him $1 Million To Stop Saying ‘G-Unot’

One of hip-hop’s current longstanding beefs is that between The Game and 50 Cent. The two have not seen eye to eye in almost two decades as every now and then, one side pops out to take a shot at the other. It was just last month that The Game challenged Eminem to a rap battle because of 50’s refusal to spar over music. “50 can’t rap,” The Game said when he was asked about his decision to challenge Em. “So I gotta go a level up and challenge the better rapper, that’s why.” While a rap battle between Game and 50 may never come to fruition, Game will never forget his past wins.

During a recent appearance on the All The Smoke podcast, The Game claimed that 50 Cent and former Interscope CEO Jimmy Iovine gave him $1 million to stop saying “G-Unot” at the height of his beef with 50 Cent and G-Unit. “They wrote me a check, they bought it,” Game said. “I had to trademark the G-Unot. And you remember when I was going around with the rat and doing all that sh*t, that sh*t hurt—killed G-Unit.”

He continued, “You stopped seeing the candy cane tank tops and all that sh*t. The whole G-Unit/Mark Ecko, the shoes, all that sh*t died. That sh*t was a hot commodity at once, G-Unit clothing. N****s was wearing the sweats, headbands, the masks, everything.” Game added that the only way to stop him from using the “G-Unot” phrase was to buy the trademark for it.

“So they had to pay me. I should have asked for more but them n****s gave me a million,” he said. “But I’m a hood n****, a million dollars just to stop saying this word? Where’s the check? They wrote the check and I stopped saying it.”
