Woman Shot in Head During Takeoff’s Passing Owes $200K in Hospital Bills

Hip Hop continues to mourn the loss of Migos member Takeoff, who was tragically murdered at a bowling alley in Houston back in November of last year. The Atlanta rapper was shot twice: once in the head and once in the back.

During the chaotic incident, which took place after hours around 2:30 am, a woman by the name of Sydney Leday was also injured by the flying bullets. The 24-year-old was shot in the head, leaving her in a coma that resulted in a week stay in the hospital. Now, she’s left with a hefty amount in medical bills, totaling to over $200K.

Speaking with The Shade Room, Sydney gives us the backstory of what led her to be at the wrong place, wrong time. She was celebrating her 24th birthday at a late-night party hosted by J. Prince, at 810 Billiards & Bowling in Houston. Suddenly, she noticed the energy had shifted in the room, especially following the dice game.

Once she saw the guns, she tried to hurry and leave, heading to the escalator. “Everything happened within a few seconds. I remember running away, I know where I stopped. I felt the sting in my head. I didn’t realize what actually happened to me. Fortunately, I had on a wig and a wig cap. So I took the wig off and noticed I had a lot of blood.”

During the car ride to the hospital, she actually had a seizure, before going into a coma for a few days. Now, she has to deal with the PTSD, seeing a therapist to cope. She even admits loud events like New Year’s Eve are major triggers.

When asked what she has to say to the players in the case, she states, “That was a senseless act that wasn’t needed. It impacted people in a big way. Not just Takeoff, not just me. People that were there are traumatized.”
Sydney’s family has since set up a GoFundMe to help raise money to pay off the insanely high number in hospital bills. So far, they’ve raised $14K.

Takeoff Shooting Detailed By Survivor, Sydney Leday: “I Remember Running Away”

It was a devastating loss when Takeoff was murdered last November. Since then, investigators have been piecing together what happened that fateful evening in a Houston bowling alley. Takeoff was with several others, including Quavo and J. Prince’s family members, in the early morning of November 1. It’s reported that a disagreement over a dice game turned deadly, with Takeoff being the only victim. Police claim he wasn’t even a part of the argument, just an innocent bystander.

However, he wasn’t the only person shot during the altercation. A woman named Sydney Leday was also injured, and after fighting for her life, she’s detailing her experience. “Everything happened within a few seconds,” she told The Shade Room during an interview. Halloween marked Leday’s 24th birthday, and she was excited to be out and about in Houston. She never expected to be shot in the head that evening. “As soon as I saw a weapon, I tried to hurry up and get out of there.”

Sydney Leday Shares Her Story

According to Sydney, she enjoyed a night on the town with her friends when they were invited to an after hours party at the bowling alley. “I’ve never been in this situation or known anybody that had to go through what I’m going through,” said Leday. “I’m just working on trying to get back to a normal [life] as much as possible.” The party was reportedly “thrown by J. Prince,” said The Shade Room. Sydney added, “I would say, we got there about one o’clock in the morning.” However, when the party seemed to be coming to an end, Leday noticed a shift in the energy.

“Everybody seemed like they knew each other,” she noted. Leday and her friend then watched on as the dice game unfolded. “We got outside, and it was time for everybody to go home. That’s when things changed.” The victim recalled seeing Quavo arguing with a man before other patrons came outside to see what was happening. Initially, it wasn’t a fight, but the two men were discussing the game that reportedly concerned $100K. When things turned serious, Leday remembered being “caught off guard.” Then, someone “[pulled] out a weapon,” which was Leday’s cue that it was time to go.

She Didn’t Know She Was Shot

Sydney didn’t hear the gunshots until she was at an escalator. “I remember running away,” but then suddenly, she crumbled to the ground. Her friend tried to pick her up. “I felt the sting in my head,” she said. “I didn’t realize what actually happened to me, and fortunately, I had on a wig and a wig cap. So, I took the wig off and noticed that I had a lot of blood.” Her friend rushed her to the hospital, and Leday began having seizures during the journey. She was in a coma for days and is grateful to be alive. Yet, her road to recovery is far from over. Watch the report above to see what else The Shade Room uncovered in court documents.

Woman Shot When Takeoff Died Speaks Out For The First Time

A 24-year-old woman victim of the shooting that killed Takeoff’s murder spoke out for the first time in an interview with KHOU 11.

Sydney Leday was a second victim who sustained injuries during the tragic Houston evening that left Takeoff dead. Leday explained that she just celebrated her birthday and had a night out with her friends to celebrate the occasion, as well as Halloween.

She explained that she previously lived in Los Angeles so she wasn’t starstruck by the presence of Quavo and Takeoff. Leday said that they went to the bowling alley around 12 a.m. She described things as relatively normal until around 2 a.m. when the event was about to shut down.

“That’s when I knew something was wrong after the fact,” she said. “Because I thought these people that were arguing was just playing, like I said, the energy that was in the room before everybody around the table playing a game of dice. I just thought it was friendly banter.”

However, she suspected that there was something wrong due to Quavo’s attitude at the time.

“So I noticed something was wrong whenever I noticed [Quavo] was really upset and he was finna leave,” she said. “The party wasn’t going to keep going on.”

She explained that she tried to run when shots rang out, though she wasn’t able to get far. Leday explained that she fell and felt a stinging in the back of her head but managed to get down an escalator and into a car. From there, her friend drove her to the Memorial Hermann Hospital, which was 12 minutes away.

We’ll keep you posted on anymore developments in the case.
