Travis Scott Was Praising Caitlin Clark Years Before Her National Fame, NBA Trainer Recalls

NBA trainer Chris Brickley revealed on Instagram, last week, that Travis Scott was hip to Caitlin Clark’s talents on the basketball court long before most of the national media caught on. Brickley shared a text exchange he had with the rapper back in March 2021, in which Scott brought up Clark. “Man, Caitlin Clark has had a great college career but NOBODY was on her b4 my brodie @trvisXX [checkered flag emoji],” Brickley’s tweet read. “This was a text from March 24th, 2021 [two red exclamation emojis].” In the conversation, Scott wrote: “Caitlin Clark [six brain exploding emojis].”

Brickley posted the exchange before Clark and her Iowa teammates defeated UConn 71-69 on April 5 to advance to the National Championship game. They ended up falling to South Carolina in the title game on Sunday by a score of 87-75.

Ahead of the National Championship, Clark spoke against the idea that her legacy was on the line. Instead, she wants to be remembered for changing women’s basketball. “I don’t want my legacy to be, ‘Oh, Caitlin won X amount of games’ or ‘Caitlin scored X amount of points,’” she said. “I hope it’s what I was able to do for the game of women’s basketball, I hope it is the young boys and young girls that are inspired to play this sport or dream to do whatever they want to do in their lives. To me, for it to come down to 40 minutes, and for me to validate myself within 40 minutes, I don’t think that’s a fair assessment.”

Boosie Badazz likes to speak his mind. The rapper will give his opinion no matter the topic or how much flack he will get for it online. His unapologetic nature is part of what makes him such an entertaining hip-hop presence, but it’s also what makes the few times he actually does apologize feel sincere. One such apology came on April 4, when Boosie took to Instagram to address the racially charged comments he made towards white LSU athlete Hailey Van Lith.

Firstly, context. Boosie criticized Van Lith in a since-deleted X post following an LSU loss. The rapper accused Van Lith of being scared to compete against Iowa superstar Caitlin Clark. “Our white girl was scared to death of Clark,” he wrote. “Why was she guarding her in the first place? We gotta do some serious recruiting next year.” Boosie would have caught heat for singling Van Lith out regardless, but it was the racial component that bothered fans. Blaming one player for a team loss is a tough look, and Boosie relented.

The rapper posted an Instagram video from inside his car, where he directly addressed Van Lith. He blamed his comments on the passion he felt for the game, and acknowledged that he was out of line in making them. “Hey, I want to apologize to Hailey Van Lith,” Boosie stated. “That’s my bad. I got in my feelings. I really wanted y’all to win, man.” Furthermore, he extended the apology to LSU, and clarified that it came from a place of support. “I apologize to you and to LSU,” he added. “I mean, that’s all I can say, I got in my feelings. Really wanted y’all to beat Iowa.”

Boosie’s LSU fandom is infamous among his fans. When the LSU women’s basketball team won their first ever NCAA tournament championship in 2023, the rapper celebrated by cutting the nets to the baskets in his backyard. “Congratulations from all of us,” he wrote in the caption to his Instagram post. Boosie’s antics went semi-viral, with many clowning the rapper for acting like a member of the team. While he was solid on defense, he didn’t do much offensively. However, he did have a difficult road to get in the lineup considering he had a cardiac arrest in the offseason. Either way, fans have been a bit concerned about his development. Even LeBron had to step back at one point and tell people to cut his kid some slack.

Recently, a rumor circulated that Bronny would be entering the transfer portal and leaving USC. Today, Bronny revealed that he was actually making a much more crucial decision. The son of LeBron James is now entering the NBA Draft. Furthermore, he is going to maintain his college eligibility, just in case no one wants to take him. Lastly, he will also enter the transfer portal for good measure. No matter what, he has played his final game for the Trojans.

Now, it will become an interesting exercise to see who wants to take Bronny in the draft. There is a high chance he doesn’t even get drafted. However, if a team thinks they can lure LeBron to their franchise, then they just might do it. There are plenty of teams that could use a guy like LeBron, however, he is close to 40, which makes him less attractive. Either way, it is going to be an interesting next few months. Or, it could all simply be a nothing burger. Hopefully, Bronny is able to develop in a way that unlocks his full potential.

Scott launched a brand new NCAA collection that’s being touted as the “first-of-its-kind”, and he did so at LSU campus. The “Jack Goes Back To College” collection launched on April 3. Scott collaborated with three other notable brands to bring the collection to life, including Fanatics, Lids, and Mitchell & Ness. You can purchase “Jack Goes Back To College” items through each brand’s platforms, as well as Scott’s official website. The collection consists of t-shirts, crewnecks, hoodies, shorts, and more, and will priced between $68 and $160.
