Jayson Tatum Clowned After Trying To Copy Kanye West, Kobe Bryant, And Kevin Garnett

Last night, Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics defeated the Dallas Mavericks to secure their 18th NBA title. Overall, it was a joyous occasion for the city of Boston, especially as the team won at home. Meanwhile, Jaylen Brown was crowned Finals MVP after some phenomenal performances. Tatum and Brown are one of the NBA’s best duos, and on Monday, they showed the world what they are capable of. In fact, this could very well be the making of a dynasty.

Unfortunately, in the midst of his great moment, Jayson Tatum was being clowned by fans online. As we reported, he was first made fun of for his attempt at recreating the Kobe Bryant Larry O’Brien photo. However, he is now catching more heat as he copied two other legends. Below, you can see that he tried to recreate the infamous Kevin Garnett “anything is possible” interview from the 2008 Celtics run. Furthermore, he then copied Kanye West’s Grammy speech in which he said: “I guess we’ll never know.”

Jayson Tatum Just Wants To Have A Good Time

Responding to the Kanye clip, one person wrote “Bro got script ready with quotes from all time greats.” Meanwhile, other fans continued to clown on Tatum for seemingly having all of his catchphrases prepared. “Bro this dude thinks he’s on a Disney show,” one commenter said. “I really got nothing against Tatum but everything he does feels forced and corny,” wrote another. For Tatum, none of these comments matter. He is now an NBA champion and no one can ever take that away from him.

A Mariachi Band Playing ‘Higher’ By Creed At A Rangers Game Is The Most Beautiful Thing You’ll Hear Today

mets mariachi band
just_mets/Twitter

Creed has gone through quite the renaissance in the last year or so. While the band was huge back in the late-90s and early-00s, it’s not unusual to hear one of their songs like “Higher” or “One Last Breath” get used as a sound on TikTok by someone who was 100 percent not alive when Creed was one of the biggest bands in the United States.

As part of the band’s renewed popularity, Creed is about to embark on a tour with a bunch of acts that were also popular back then: 3 Doors Down, Daughtry, Switchfoot, Tonic, Big Wreck, and Finger Eleven will all be involved at one point or another. And hopefully, this mariachi band that played “Higher” during Monday night’s game between the New York Mets and the Texas Rangers gets some love at one point on the tour, because this is legitimately a beautiful cover of the song.

That little musical section before the chorus is terrific — well, the whole thing is terrific, but that was my favorite part. And while it took a second for the Mets’ SNY broadcast to catch onto the performance, once they did, they loved it.

Anyway, the Mets entered Monday night’s game in Texas having won nine of their last 11 games. Grimace is involved in this run. Baseball rocks.

Jayson Tatum Attempts To Recreate Iconic Kobe Bryant Championship Photo Much To The Dismay Of NBA Fans

Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics won the NBA championship last night. Overall, their series against the Dallas Mavericks wasn’t very competitive. None of the games were close, and the Mavericks were very clearly an inferior opponent. Although the Mavericks put up a fight in Game 4, they were awful in Game 5. The Celtics essentially walked to an NBA championship, only losing three games en route to their big win. It was impressive, and it was capped off by Jaylen Brown winning Finals MVP.

After winning the NBA title, Tatum took to the locker room to celebrate with his teammates. Many fans were waiting to see if Tatum would invoke the previous actions of Kobe Bryant, who infamous took a downtrodden photo with the Larry O’Brien trophy. Tatum is a massive Kobe fan, and NBA viewers knew the Celtics star was going to do something similar. Well, those predictions came true, and you can see the results down below.

Tatum’s attempted photo op led to plenty of eye rolls and jokes on social media. “Bro so corny you’re not kobe,” one person wrote. “Bro tryin his hardest not to do the Kobe pic,” said another. Meanwhile, others commented on the quality of the playoff series, saying “Most boring finals of the past 10 years.” Needless to say, only people in Boston are happy with this title run. Everyone else is already looking forward to what next season has in store.

Angel Reese Defends Hard Flagrant Foul On Caitlin Clark As Just A “Basketball Play”

Angel Reese received a flagrant foul after smacking Caitlin Clark to the ground as she drove to the rim on Sunday afternoon during the Chicago Sky’s game against the Indiana Fever. Despite it appearing to be a hard hit, Reese defended the move as a “basketball play” while speaking with reporters afterward. The Fever ended up taking the game 91-83.

“A basketball play. It was a basketball play,” Reese said. “I can’t control the refs. They affected the game obviously a lot tonight.” From there, she suggested that some players get a “special whistle.” “I think we went up really strong a lot of times, and we didn’t get a lot of calls,” Reese further argued. “Going back and looking at the film, I’ve seen a lot of calls that weren’t made. I guess some people got a special whistle. But just being able to play hard as best as we can.”

Fever coach Christie Sides thought the call was the correct one. “The right call was made in that moment,” Sides said. “Just make the right call in those moments, and we can move forward. But when we don’t make the right call in those moments, that’s when there’s a problem, and they made the right call tonight.” She had previously complained about the referees in prior games not calling hard fouls on Clark as flagrant. One such instance occurred the last time the Sky took on the Fever when Chennedy Carter fouled Clark.

Ice Cube Explained Why He Wouldn’t Let Shaq Release A Song Called ‘That’s Gangsta’ With Dr. Dre

Shaq is one of the all-time greatest athletes turned rappers, as the big man’s 1993 debut album, Shaq Diesel, went platinum. Shaq released four albums in total, and worked with some of the biggest producers and artists in hip-hop in the 90s.

However, there was one collaboration from a song he recorded with a West Coast legend while in Los Angeles with the Lakers that never saw the light of day. On a recent episode of The Big Podcast, Shaq had Ice Cube join him and they discussed a project Cube was executive producing for him while he was with the Lakers. Cube set it up for Shaq to get in the booth with Dr. Dre, and Shaq and Dre cooked up a song called “That’s Gangsta,” which Shaq thought “was nice.” Cube saw things a bit differently, and made the executive decision for Shaq to not let it ever see the light of day.

“Cube was executive producing one of my records,” Shaq said. “And he put me in the studio with Dr. Dre. I did a song called ‘That’s Gangsta’. Cube heard it and was like, ‘Nope. We’re not releasing this.’ … He was like, ‘Shaq, you’re a f*cking Laker, bro. I don’t want you talking about nothing gangsta. We not doing none of that sh*t.’ And it never came out.”

While Adam Lefkoe seemed to think it was because the song wasn’t good, Cube noted it had nothing to do with that. He was trying to protect Shaq’s image, noting the then-Lakers star didn’t need to present himself as being “gangsta” in L.A., as he had mass appeal already and didn’t need to try to put on that image.

“It was good. Shaq is a dope MC, but I just felt the record was off-brand for him,” Cube said. “Because, to me, he’s more than just gangsta. He’s loved by millions, loved by kids. He already established that. And why go backwards when you’re already forward?”

Shaq would go on to note he thanked Cube for making that decision for him, and it shows how much respect Ice Cube had for Shaq that he would think about Shaq’s overall career as a basketball player (and one of the NBA’s most marketable guys, ever) while executive producing an album. Players don’t always have someone willing to think of the bigger picture and tell them no, and in this case, Shaq had that in the form of a music legend in Cube.

Snoop Dogg Joining The Broadcast Booth For A Reds-Brewers Game Was As Incredible As You’d Expect

Few, if any, people do a better job parlaying being famous into doing fun stuff than Snoop Dogg. While you don’t always know where he’s going to pop up, it’s usually not a shock when Snoop shows up at a thing — it can be a game, it can be a random television show, whatever else — and is clearly having the time of his life.

The latest example of this came on Saturday night, when the Milwaukee Brewers played host to the Cincinnati Reds in an NL Central matchup. Snoop had a show at a casino in Milwaukee a little later in the evening, but before that, he threw out the first pitch — he got it across the plate, which means relatively speaking, that’s a very good first pitch — then made his way into the broadcast booth during the second inning. He proceeded to spend two full innings up there, and unsurprisingly, he took over the booth and injected some life into a mid-June baseball game.

Just listen to how much fun he had watching Christian Yelich hit an infield single, then follow it up by stealing second base. I am pretty sure everyone will agree with this, but we should 100 percent let Snoop pop into the booth during baseball games whenever he wants.

As for the game itself, the Brewers picked up a 3-1 win.

Jake Paul Fires Back At Critics Worried Mike Tyson Is “Too Old” For Their Fight

Jake Paul has responded to haters who think Mike Tyson is “too old” for his fight with the YouTuber-turned-boxer. Speaking with Babcock on the TMZ Sports TV show earlier this week, he argued that the legendary boxer is an adult and can make his own decisions. The interview comes after Tyson, who will turn 58 years old later this month, postponed the fight until November due to medical issues.

“Tell Mike Tyson that. Because he does not give a s*** what anyone thinks,” Paul said. “He’s his own boss. He wants to fight me. He told my team, ‘I don’t give a s*** about this. Like, tell Jake I’m still going to rip his head off and knock him the f*** out. And, this just bought him more time.’ Tell Mike Tyson not to fight and to chill and see how that goes.”

Morris first made a public name for himself as a player for the University of Michigan, where he helped his team compete in the NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament. Morris began his professional career with the Los Angeles Lakers, who originally drafted him back in 2011. After spending multiple seasons with the organization, he joined up with four other teams prior to the end of his playing career. Over the course of his time in the NBA, he averaged 3.3 points per game in addition to 1.4 assists and 1 rebound. He most recently played professionally in China and France during the 2019-20 season.

In addition to being a basketball star, Morris was also a cousin of The Game, who mourned his passing on Instagram, last month. “My family took a blow with this one. Rest well lil cousin,” Game captioned a picture of Morris. “You achieved your childhood dreams & did what you always said you would. Antonio Brown Criticizes Jay-Z For Performing At Tom Brady Ceremony

Antonio Brown likes to talk. He will say anything about anybody it seems, and that includes his former teammates, Tom Brady. Brown and Brady only played a single game together, be the former has felt comfortable calling the latter “selfish.” AB has tried to make amends with the ex-QB, but his latest IG post isn’t going to help his case. The controversial figure criticized both Brady and Jay-Z for the show they put on at Brady’s Patriots Hall of Fame induction ceremony. And he wasn’t afraid to explain why.

For context, Jay-Z performed during Brady’s induction ceremony. The legendary rapper played “Public Service Announcement” as Brady entered the building, which was a nod to the fact that the quarterback played the song before games. Brady and Jay have been friendly over the years, with former calling Hov his favorite rapper. It all seemed harmless on the surface. Antonio Brown, however, had a different read. He took Jay-Z to task for participating in this event and ignoring others that he felt were worth the MC’s time. In particular, events that were tied to the 50th anniversary of hip-hop in 2023.

Antonio Brown Questioned Jay-Z’s Professional Priorities

“Jay didn’t perform at any Hip Hop 50 concerts last year,” Brown noted. “Where the fans would’ve known every word to his songs.” The former NFL star then twisted the knife by casting Jay-Z’s induction cameo in a racial light. “But he makes time to get ignored by rich white folks smh.” AB was not the only one who held this sentiment. Jay-Z was widely criticized for not taking part in the Hip Hop 50 concerts, especially considering many of them took place in the rapper’s home state. Jay has also been criticized for his deal with the NFL. Roc Nation partnered with the league in 2019, which led many to question whether he was dismissing Colin Kaepernick’s protests.

Jay-Z addressed the controversy during a New York Times interview in 2020. “We forget that Colin’s whole thing was to bring attention to social injustice,” the rapper stated. “In that case, this is a success. This is the next phase. There [are] two parts of protesting. You go outside and you protest, and then the company or the individual says, ‘I hear you. What do we do next?’” The NY legend hasn’t addressed Antonio Brown’s criticisms, and given his aloof approach to online interactions, he probably never will.

After enduring countless defeats in previous NBA Finals appearances, West’s perseverance was finally rewarded in 1972. He led the Los Angeles Lakers to their first championship in his illustrious career. That season, the Lakers showcased their dominance, setting a remarkable 33-game winning streak, a record that still stands today. Despite playing through the pain of a hamstring injury, West’s determination and clutch performances propelled the team to victory against the New York Knicks in the Finals. He averaged 19.8 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 8.8 assists per game, according to StatMuse.

Cementing His Legacy As “Mr. Clutch”

West earned the moniker “Mr. Clutch” for his uncanny ability to rise to the occasion and deliver in the most crucial moments. Throughout his 14-season career with the Lakers, West earned numerous accolades. This includes 14 All-Star selections, 10 All-NBA First Team honors, and five All-Defensive First Team selections. His scoring prowess was unmatched. West averaged 27.0 points per game, highlighted by his career-high 40.6 points per game in the 1965 playoffs and his scoring title in 1970 (31.2), per Basketball Reference.

Setting Remarkable NBA Records & Milestones

Jerry West’s name is in the NBA record books for his extraordinary achievements on the court. Notably, he remains the only player in league history to be named Finals MVP (1969) despite being on the losing team. This demonstrated his ability to excel under pressure. Throughout his career, West scored 40 or more points in 10 NBA Finals games — a feat that legends like LeBron James and Michael Jordan never reached. His career-high of 63 points, achieved against the New York Knicks on January 17, 1962, showcased his scoring prowess, according to Basketball Reference.

Masterminding The Acquisition Of Kobe Bryant

West’s transition from player to executive was marked by a series of brilliant moves that reshaped the Lakers’ future. However, none was more significant than acquiring Kobe Bryant. In 1996, West orchestrated a draft-day trade with the Charlotte Hornets. He sent veteran center Vlade Divac in exchange for the No. 13 overall pick, which the Hornets used to select Bryant. This bold move was initially met with skepticism, but West’s vision and belief in the young star proved prophetic. Bryant went on to become one of the greatest players in NBA history.

Elevating Shaquille O’Neal To New Heights

West’s tenure as an executive for the Lakers included another monumental decision: signing Shaquille O’Neal in 1996. West recognized that pairing a dominant big man like O’Neal with the budding talent of Kobe Bryant would create a formidable duo. Moreover, they would be capable of leading the Lakers to multiple championships. O’Neal’s impact was immediate and powerful. He won three consecutive Finals MVP awards from 2000 to 2002, solidifying the Lakers’ status as the team of the early 2000s.

Establishing The “Showtime” Era With Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

West’s executive brilliance was further showcased in the late 1970s and 1980s, playing a crucial role in creating the “Showtime” era of the Lakers. Working as a scout, West was instrumental in drafting Magic Johnson as the No. 1 overall pick in the 1979 NBA Draft. He recognized Johnson’s unique blend of size, skill, and charisma. Pairing Magic with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, whom the Lakers had acquired in 1975, West laid the foundation for one of the most exciting and successful periods in NBA history. The Lakers went on to win five championships in the 1980s.

Acting as an Advisor With The Dynasty Golden State Warriors

Jerry West’s basketball insight continued to influence the NBA well into the 2010s through his advisory role with the Golden State Warriors. Joining the franchise in 2011, West subsequently provided critical guidance and knowledge. It helped transform the Warriors into a modern dynasty. His influence was pivotal in key decisions, such as drafting Klay Thompson and Draymond Green. He was also integral in the strategic hiring of head coach Steve Kerr in 2014. Moreover, under West’s advisement, the Warriors adopted an innovative style of play centered around three-point shooting, ball movement, and defensive versatility. This led to four NBA Championships in 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2022.

In tribute to Jerry West, we celebrate a life dedicated to basketball. His impact transcended the court, inspiring generations of players and shaping the NBA landscape. West’s tireless determination, clutch performances, and visionary leadership have left an indelible mark on the sport. His legacy will continue to inspire those who aspire to greatness.
