Drake and 21 Savage dug back in their Her Loss bag to deliver a video for “Spin Bout U.”
The video for the fan-favorite single opens with the two stars enjoying a luxurious life on a super yacht as it crosses the ocean. During the trip, the two spot a baddie needing to be rescued from the ocean. The two toss out a flotation device and pull her on board, showing her the finer things in life until she turns on them and a group of baddie pirates then invade the boat.
Drake and 21 Savage are then held hostage as the boat is destroyed, and the woman robs the two and causes havoc before executing the rap legends. You can see all of the havoc in the video below.
Drake and 21 Savage are still riding the highs of their critically-acclaimed collaborative album, Her Loss. Today (February 24), the duo has shared their new video for “Spin Bout U,” a fan favorite from the album.
In the video for the romantic anthem, 21 and Drake are seen spoiling their women on a luxurious yacht. Midway through, the beat slowly warps, as it is implied the two have been drugged. Shortly after, the rappers are tied up and a group of ladies make their way throughout the boat, grabbing jewels, guns, and more.
With plot twists and unpredictable turns throughout, the video is very cinematic, which marks another high point in the cannon of Drake and 21 Savage visuals. Which, if the rumors of an imminent retirement are true, makes for a hell of a way to go out.
“I think I’m at the point now where I just want to like… I feel like, maybe we talked about this the other day….” he said. “… but I feel like I’m kind of introducing the concept in my mind of a graceful exit.”
Drake & 21 Savage just dropped the music video for their Her Loss cut, “Spin Bout U.” Moreover, it tells a pretty over-the-top but dangerously entertaining tale of excess, love, loss, and revenge. While 21 and Drizzy enjoy their time on a lavish cruise, they find a woman drowning next to them. After saving her, the 6 God tries to get cozy but she drugs and kidnaps both him and the Atlanta MC. Then, more women arrive to steal their jewelry, tattoo thing on their faces, trash their ship, and eventually burn the whole thing down. A bit before the video ends, they even steal Drake’s engagement ring necklace and execute him, while 21 jumps off the ship to try and escape.
Overall, it’s a pretty ridiculous but also tongue-in-cheek portrayal of toxic love, much like the collaborative album it lands on. Also, this track was an interesting choice for an MV with this theme because of the Canadian superstar’s infamous lines. While they’re peppered all over the tracklist, “Spin Bout U” has some interesting bars about women and relationships. One of them is “Damn, just turned on the news and seen that men who never got p***y in school are makin’ laws about what women can do.” Also there’s “Four words when I think about them is crusty, musty, dusty, rusty / Eight words when I think about us is f**k me, f**k me, f**k me, f**k me.”
Drake & 21 Savage’s “Spin Bout U” Music Video
Meanwhile, the Slaughter Gang head honcho drops some more simple, but still lovey-dovey lines, at least for their standards. “F**k your main page, what’s your Finsta? I wanna know the real you,” he raps alongside typical bars about body counts, material gifts, and, uh, intimacy. Regardless, “Spin Bout U” is a really entertaining video that feeds into criticisms of their perspectives while having fun with its extravagance. In fact, it makes one wonder why there aren’t more music videos from this album, but I guess the rollout’s not over yet.
Speaking of rollout, 21 and Drake recently settled their lawsuit from Condé Nast for their fake Vogue cover promotion for the album. While the company sought at least $4 million in damages, no specific settlement amount was revealed. Still, at least it’s another headache they don’t have to deal with as they continue celebrating their collaboration’s success. With all that in mind, here’s hoping that we get a sequel to this wild and campy narrative from this new visual. Drake says that he’ll be releasing the music video for his Her Loss song, “Spin Bout U,” with 21 Savage, later this week. The Toronto rapper made the announcement in a post on Instagram, Monday morning. In doing so, he shared a picture of a clapperboard from the set, revealing that it was filmed back in January.
Drake released “Spin Bout U” on the tracklist for Her Loss when the album dropped back in November 2022. The song peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot 100. Banbwoi and 40 produced the track, which contains a prominent sample of “Give Me Your Lovin” by Oobie. Drake and 21 Savage have already released music videos for their collaboration “Jumbotron Shit Poppin,” as well as the Honestly, Nevermind single, “Jimmy Cooks.”
Drake’s Announcement
Her Loss itself debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 while moving 404,000 album-equivalent units. The feat marked Drake’s 12th and 21 Savage’s third number-one album in the U.S. Travis Scott provided the only credited feature on the album, which came on the 10th track, “Pussy & Millions.” It was produced by Cheeze Beatz, Go Grizzly, Squat Beats, B100, and Lil Yachty.
While performing with 21 Savage at the Apollo Theater in Harlem last month, Drake announced that the two will be going on tour this summer. “I was telling them earlier but, if you guys enjoy that experience, feel free to come see me and my brother this summer,” he told the crowd. It will be Drake’s first co-headlining tour since 2018’s Aubrey & the Three Migos Tour. 21 Savage previously co-headlined The Off-Season Tour alongside J. Cole in 2021.
He also hinted at dropping another album at some point this year. “I deeply appreciate everybody for continuing to support us,” Drake said later in the show. “I’ve thought about a bunch of things in life, but at this moment in time none of those things are stopping making music for you, so I’ll be here for you for a little bit at least. And I hope I can strike up more emotions for you. Maybe this year, I might get bored and make another one, who knows.”
