After a rare win for the Miami Marlins against the St. Louis Cardinals last night(June 18) in the 305’s loanDepot Park, the home team’s second baseman had a surprise for Marlins reporter Jessica Blaylock.

As the Bally Sports journalist interviewed Vidal Brujan for hitting the walk-off single that drove in the winning run, Jazz crept up behind her and drenched her with gallons of water(or possibly Gatorade) from the Marlins’ cooler before bopping back to the dugout and flexing for the cameras. Some may call it the spoils of victory, while others are taking to social media to chastise the All-Star 2B/SS about what is now being seen by some as unsportsmanlike conduct.

See the video of the interrupted interview HERE

Blaylock, despite being shocked from the soaking, was an unbelievably good sport, simply responding “Oh, my goodness. I feel like I just maybe delivered the walk-off hit.”

There were some people who didn’t see any harm in the cooler toss, but some took to social media to slam Chisholm, even calling him a jerk.

The good news is that the Marlins actually won for a change, edging the Cards 9-8. This pushes Miami’s record to 24-49, just one game shy of winning just half of the amount of games that they’ve lost. The NL East’s bottom slot certainly has a special place for the Marlins in 2024.

[WATCH] Stephen A. Smith Clarifies Comments on Will Smith: Calls for Grace After Backlash

q

This week, sports analyst Stephen A. Smith found himself at the center of a social media storm after demanding an apology from actor Will Smith on behalf of the Black community. The controversy stemmed from Stephen A. Smith’s refusal to watch “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” until Will Smith explained his infamous slap of Chris Rock at the Academy Awards.

In a viral statement, Stephen A. Smith initially expressed his discomfort with supporting Will Smith’s latest film, citing the high regard in which white America holds the actor. Smith argued that Will’s behavior at the Oscars made the entire Black community look bad, further inflaming the already contentious debate surrounding the incident.

However, following intense backlash and a conversation with Will’s former manager, Charlie Mack, Stephen A. Smith has since walked back his comments. He now believes that Will Smith deserves grace and that his actions, while regrettable, should not overshadow his contributions and character.

Speaking to the media, Stephen A. Smith addressed the backlash directly, explaining his initial concerns and subsequent change of heart. “I know how highly white America regards Will Smith, and seeing him act out in that way was disheartening,” Smith said. “But after speaking with Charlie Mack, I understand that we all make mistakes, and Will deserves grace just like anyone else.”

Stephen A. Smith also acknowledged the intense scrutiny and criticism he faced for his remarks, admitting that his perspective had shifted. “I’ve heard from many people, and I realize now that demanding an apology in that manner was not the right approach,” he said. “We need to allow space for understanding and forgiveness.”

The original comments by Stephen A. Smith sparked widespread debate on social media, with many arguing that Will Smith’s actions, while unfortunate, did not warrant such a harsh stance from a fellow prominent figure in the Black community. Critics pointed out that the focus should be on healing and moving forward, rather than demanding public apologies.

In a Twitter post clarifying his position, Stephen A. Smith reiterated his belief in the power of grace and understanding. “We all have moments we regret,” he wrote. “What matters is how we learn and grow from them. Will Smith has done so much for our community, and he deserves our support.”

The dialogue around Will Smith’s Oscars incident and Stephen A. Smith’s comments continues to evolve, with many calling for a more compassionate and constructive conversation. As the release of “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” approaches, it remains to be seen how this controversy will impact its reception.

For now, Stephen A. Smith’s call for grace serves as a reminder that even public figures are human and that growth often comes from understanding and forgiveness.

Thoughts?

SOURCE SPORTS: [WATCH] Fan Tased, Arrested For Running On Field, Doing Backflip During Guardians vs. Reds Game

Last night, when the Cleveland Guardians hosted the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park in Ohio, an overzealous fan took his excitement onto the field, only to be tased and arrested in front of the entire stadium at the Great American Ball Park in Ohio during the ninth inning of game.

19-year-old William Hendon was arrested and charged with a felony criminal trespass charge and a misdemeanor obstructing official business charge and booked into the Hamilton County Jail. Hendon jumped into the outfield and sprinted from officers, even doing a backflip before being tased and hauled away by arresting officers.

The man “did knowingly run onto the Reds playing field during the game without permission to do so,” an officer wrote in a criminal complaint. Another document accused Hendon of impeding an officer’s lawful duties with purpose as he tried to run from the officer who was behind him.

Hendon is scheduled to make his first court appearance Wednesday morning(June 12).

Meanwhile, Josh Naylor hit his 17th home run, securing the Guardians’ 5-3 victory over the Reds.

SOURCE SPORTS: Mets Draw With The Phillies In London Series With 6-5 Comeback Win In Second Game

What seemed like what was going to be a clean two-game sweep for the Phillies against the Amazins’ across the pond turned out to be an epic closer to a longtime division rivalry taken abroad.

In what Londoners would call “squeaky hum time”, the New York Mets produced a unimaginable 6-5 comeback win over rivals the Philadelphia Phillies to even out Major League Baseball’s two-game London Series. A three run rally in the top of the ninth inning put the Mets up by two, but the Phils didn’t go out without a fight in the bottom of the ninth.

With only two outs left to get the W, right fielder Nick Castellanos breaks his bat, but hits a dribbler right in front of the plate, making quicik thinking Mets catcher Luis Torres step on the plate and fire a missile down to Pete Alonso at first, ending the game and creating the first ever 2-3 double play in MLB history.

Only seven times in AL/NL history had a game ended on a ground-ball double play to the catcher, and none was scored precisely 2-3 (catcher to first base). Since 1912, which is as far back as MLB’s data on the subject goes, the only other game-ending 2-3 double play occurred on a pop fly.

What an exciting end to a historic rivalry in The Big Smoke, giving the Mets just their second win against Philadelphia in their six games against each other in 2024. The Kings from Queens have over three months to revel in their victory until the next time they meet the Phillies, which will be on the Phils’ turf in Citizens Bank Park.

One of the top prospects of professional baseball to come out of NYC in the past decade is none other than Pittsburgh’s Joshua Palacios, the right-handed outfielder and left handed batter from Brooklyn. Before Palacios was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the fourth round of the 2016 MLB Draft, Palacios was NYC’s 2013 High School Player of the Year straight out of the High School For Telecommunications Art And Technology in Bay Ridge, resulting in him originally being drafted into the MLB by the Cincinnati Reds in the 21st round in 2014, but turned down the offer to attend San Jacinto Junior College in Houston. As a sophomore, Palacios was named the 37th best Junior College Player of the Year .

Two years later, Palacios was drafted by the Blue Jays, beginning his career with the Gulf Coast League Blue Jays and before the end of that season, he went to the Short Season-A Vancouver Canadians. In the midst of the pandemic, the Blue Jays added him to their 40-man team and made his MLB debut on April 9, 2021 against the L.A. Angels. Soon after, the Washington Nationals claimed Palacios off the Blue Jays’ roster, but a year later, the Pirates selected the 25-year-old from the Nationals in the minor league phase of the Rule 5 draft.

A little more than a year ago, Palacios hit his first MLB home run against the St. Lois Cardinals and became the first Pirate to hit a walk-off two-run HR on his birthday(July 30) off of Phillies’ Andrew Vasquez. I

In 91 games in his first season with the Pirates, the now 28-year-old batted .239/.279/.413 with 10 homers and 40 RBIs. This still didn’t stop Pittsburgh from optioning the outfielder to Triple–A Indianapolis to begin the 2024 season.

Being a born Brooklynite, Palacios has always had a thing for Hip Hop, as noted in his playlist courtesy of Black Baseball Mixtape. The playlist id BK heavy, with Fivio Foreign, Sleepy Hallow, the Notorious B.I.G. and Hov making the cut on Palacios hard hitting track selection. Check it out below!

SOURCE SPORTS: Shohei Ohtani’s Former Interpreter Pleads Guilty To Federal Charges

Screenshot 2024 06 05 at 9.00.27 AM

It has just been reported that Ippei Mizuhara, the former interpreter for Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani, has plead guilty to one count of bank fraud and one count of tax fraud for reportedly stealing money from Ohtani’s bank account to pay off his large gambling debts.

Mizuhara appeared in a Santa Ana, California court yesterday to plead guilty to the charges pending, which are both federal offenses. Wearing a suit jacket and a white shirt, the 39-year-old bilingual swindler told a judge he used funds from an Ohtani bank account to help clear himself of a major gambling debt he had accumulated.

Even though the news of the plea has just been released, Mizuhara and prosecutors had reached a plea agreement in this case last month.

Mizuhara could possibly receive up to 33 years in federal prison. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for late October.

The Dodgers released a statement in regards to the court proceedings, which can be seen below.

Several reports have confirmed that there is yet another scandal involving gambling in baseball; this time it is San Diego Padres infielder Tucupita Marcano, who is accused of betting on his former team’s games, which violates Major League Baseball’s gambling policy.

Marcano, who made his major league debut in 2021, is currently under investigation for reportedly gambling on Pittsburgh Pirates games back in 2023 when he was on the team’s IL. The 24-year-old is currently on the Padres roster, but has not played a game rfor San Diego in 2024 due to a torn ACL.

MLB and the MLB Players Association have yet to comment on the allegations, but both sides are ironing out details about the potential punishment, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Marcano can be banned from baseball for life for his violation and The Wall Street Journal has reported that at least four other major league baseball players could be penalized for betting on MLB games while they were in the minor leagues.

All of this comes at the tail end of the investigation of Ippei Mizuhara, the interpreter who admitted to stealing millions from L.A. Dodgers’ star Shohei Ohtani, in order to pay off his illegal gambling debts.

SOURCE SPORTS: NY Mets Set To Retire Darryl Strawberry’s Jersey In Citi Field One Month After Massive Heart Attack

On Saturday at Citi Field, the ceremony is already in motion to retire the jersey of one of The Amazin’ Mets’ most beloved players of all time, Darryl Strawberry. However, The Straw recently just recovered from a massive heart attacxk that he suffered back in March, but says that he’s “100%” and ready for the New York franchise to retire #18.

The L.A. native opened up to TMZ about the recent health crisis, claiming that things were so bad during the “massive” heart attack, physicians couldn’t believe that the eight time MLB All Star survived.

“My heart was pumping at 40 percent,” said Strawberry. “So, there was a lot going on. There was not a lot of blood flowing through my heart at that particular time.” His wife Tracy managed to get him to the hospital in time before the situation worsened. Straw now uses his health scare to warn others.

“We only got one shot at this life,” he said, “make it count.”

The Mets will officially hang Strawberry’s number 18 jersey in the rafters among some of Mets greatest stars on Saturday, June 1 as the Amazins host the Arizona Diamondbacks.
