SOURCE SPORTS: Aaron Rodgers Agrees to a 4 Year Extension To Remain the Packers’ Quarterback

aaron rodgers packers getty

That bad man Aaron Rodgers is staying put in Green Bay. Rodgers and the Packers have agreed to a four-year, $200 million, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports. The $50 million salary makes Rodgers the highest-paid player in NFL history.

Rodgers posted on social media that while he will be back with the Packers, the reported terms of his deal are inaccurate.

In capturing MVP honors, Rodgers had a historic 2021 season, completing 68.9% of his passes for 4,115 yards with 37 touchdowns to just four interceptions for a 111.9 passer rating. He led the NFL in touchdown percentage (7.0), interception percentage (0.8), and passer rating.

Rodgers staying with the Packers means the team can now focus on getting more pieces around him to get them back to the Super Bowl. With Tom Brady retired and Russell Wilson now in Denver, Rodgers is not only the best quarterback in the NFC, but he is also currently the most secured one.

SOURCE SPORTS: Denver Broncos Land Russell Wilson From Seahawks in Blockbuster Trade

SeattleSeahawksFined$kforMishandlingRussellWilson'sPossibleConcussion

The Denver Broncos pulled off a blockbuster trade with the Seattle Seahawks to acquire Russell Wilson. The Broncos sent three players (Drew Lock, Shelby Harris, and Noah Fant), two first-rounders, two second-rounders, a fifth-rounder for Wilson, and a fourth-round pick.

The Broncos’ offense looks like this: Russell Wilson, Javonte Williams, Courtland Sutton, Tim Patrick, Jerry Jeudy, KJ Hamler, and Albert Okwuegbunam. The AFC West just became a murderous road loaded with elite quarterback play when you add Wilson to the mix with Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert, and David Carr.

Wilson will look to do what Peyton Manning did in Denver a few years ago, which wins a Super Bowl with the Broncos. This trade signals the end of Wilson and his time in Seattle.

Wilson has been with the Seahawks since they drafted him in the 3rd round in 2012, and he led them to a victory over the Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII just a few years later. Wilson and the Seahawks have been to the playoffs every year since he was drafted, except for just two seasons (2017 and 2021).

SOURCE SPORTS: Falcons’ Calvin Ridley Suspended a Year From Football for Placing Bets on Games

calvinridley

The NFL dropped the hammer on Atlanta Falcons’ Calvin Ridley by suspending him for one entire season for betting on NFL games.

According to the NFL, Ridley placed bets five days in late November 2021, when he was away from the club’s facility on the non-football illness list. The former first-round pick played in just five games in 2021 before leaving the club to focus on his “mental wellbeing.”

“There is nothing more fundamental to the NFL’s success — and to the reputation of everyone associated with our league — than upholding the integrity of the game,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell wrote in a letter notifying Ridley of the suspension. “This is the responsibility of every player, coach, owner, game official, and anyone else employed in the league. Your actions put the integrity of the game at risk, threatened to damage public confidence in professional football, and potentially undermined the reputations of your fellow players throughout the NFL.

Following the news of his suspension, Ridley said on Twitter that he does not have a “gambling problem.”

The Falcons said in a press release that they are preparing for the 2022 season as if Ridley will not be with them. The earliest Ridley can apply for reinstatement is Feb. 15, 2023.

“We were first made aware of the league’s investigation on Feb. 9. We have cooperated fully with the investigation since receiving notice and support the league’s findings and actions,” the team said in a statement. “We are moving forward in the 2022 season with the decision that was made. With the decision that was made by the NFL, any further questions on the investigation should be directed to the league office.”

The NFL is sending a message to players and team members throughout the league that gambling in games is the number 1 cardinal sin.

SOURCE SPORTS: Paris Saint Germain to Open Global Flagship Store in NYC

PSG OPENING NYC PRESS FINALS 9

Paris Saint-Germain will launch its first-ever east coast flagship store in New York City, ten years after initially touring the United States. The brand-new flagship store, located at 587 Fifth Avenue, will be the first-ever official boutique for an international sports club in New York City.

Lids will open and operate the store. This opening is part of the Club’s groundbreaking worldwide merchandising relationship with Fanatics, announced in 2020. After successfully opening its first US store in Los Angeles in conjunction with Fanatics and Lids a year ago, it represents a new milestone for Paris Saint-international Germain’s development. PSG’s official boutique in New York will be the Club’s largest store outside of France, and it will join the Club’s burgeoning international retail network, which already includes three boutiques in Japan (two in Tokyo and one in Nagoya), one in Seoul, South Korea, and two in Doha, Qatar.

This one-stop-shop for Paris Saint-Germain supporters in NYC and worldwide will include a customization station, a trademark element of many Lids retail locations that allow fans to personalize their Paris Saint-Germain items on-site further. The new store will provide a wide choice of team jerseys, headwear, and accessories, including a full line of Nike and Jordan team wear, one-of-a-kind collabs, fashion collections, and New York-inspired Paris Saint-Germain designs that will be available exclusively at the new location. Collectibles like special signed game and non-game jerseys and other team memorabilia will also be available for purchase.

“Once again Paris Saint-Germain is leading the way by bringing a flagship store right to the heart of New York City, one of the world’s iconic intersections of sports, culture, and fashion,” said Zohar Ravid, Senior Vice-President, Head of Global Corporate Development at Fanatics. “The club is always pushing new boundaries and we are delighted to once again team up with our partners at Lids to expand its global retail presence in a key international market and help the club on its journey to becoming one of the most culturally relevant sports clubs and brands in the world.”

“We are thrilled to bring a globally recognized team and brand with Paris Saint-Germain and flagship store opening in New York City,” said Lawrence Berger, Co-Founder and Partner at Ames Watson and Chairman of FanzzLids Holdings, which is the owner of Lids. “This is an exciting moment for Lids and Paris Saint-Germain fans as they now have an exclusive place to purchase the latest fashions, plus the ability to customize product in-store.”

“Paris Saint-Germain brand development over the last 10 years is truly unique. Becoming the first sports team to open an official boutique in New York City is a key milestone to establish the Club as one of the greatest sports brands in the world.” said Fabien Allègre, Brand Director at Paris Saint-Germain. “We are delighted to work with Fanatics to reinforce our presence in North America and to have a retail expert in Lids operating the store. The Club is now the number four sports club in the world on social media, and our fanbase, worldwide and especially in the US, is growing exponentially. Over 160 million fans follow our team every day. New York is the pinnacle of that growth. We are excited for Paris Saint-Germain supporters from all over the world to experience this new store event and be part of Paris Saint-Germain unique project.”

Paris Saint-Germain and Fly Nowhere, an NYC-based boutique creative firm, have started an innovative initiative to generate special projects and partnership goods in honor of the opening. In honor of PSG’s arrival in New York, co-branded product drops will be inspired by local elements. These items will only be offered at the PSG flagship stores in New York and Paris.

Lids and Paris Saint-Germain will host a grand opening celebration for the store on Friday, March 18th, to commemorate this historic occasion.

SOURCE SPORTS: Jokic Has 46 Point Triple Double, Tatum Drops 54, Middleton Drops 44 in Wild NBA Sunday

FNN euRVIAAePdP

One night after LeBron James dropped 56 points against the Golden State Warriors in a Saturday Night Showcase classic, the NBA showed it’s truly a league of “you never know what’s next” with several stellar performances.

In an overtime thriller, reigning NBA MVP Nikola Jokic tallied 46 points, 12 rebounds, 11 assists, 4 blocks, and 3 steals. Jokic scored 30 points of his 46 in the fourth quarter and overtime of the 138-130 win.

“That’s just not something that you see often,” Jokic’s teammate Aaron Gordon said to ESPN. “He took over, 30 points in the fourth quarter and overtime; that’s just sick. That was just an amazing game. He’s an amazing ballplayer.”

Opening the action on Sunday was the Atlantic Division battle of the Boston Celtics and the visiting Brooklyn Nets. While the boo’s rained down on Kyrie Irving from the Boston crowd, the jumpers rained in from Celtics swingman Jayson Tatum as he lit up the rivals for 54 points. The Celtics would win 126-120 despite Kevin Durant’s 37 point effort. The Nets have now been knocked down to the ninth seed.

“As a competitor night in, night out, but especially games like this, those matchups when you’re on one of the better teams in the league with two of the best guys, just as a competitor, these are the kinds of moments that as a kid, you dreamed about and looked forward to,” Tatum said.

Tatum now has tied Larry Bird for the most 50 point games in Celtics history with four.

In an NBA Finals rematch, the Milwaukee Bucks outlasted the short-handed Phoenix Suns. The Suns, without Devin Booker and Chris Paul, led most of the way, showing they are ready to battle their Finals foes. Giannis Antentokounmpo fouled out with 19 points but the stage was set for sniper Kris Middleton who poured in 44 points.

“We’re just trying to lock in a little bit better,” Middleton said to ESPN. “We’ve spoken on it multiple times in the past where we’ve had these lapses and what not. We’re trying to be dialed in, trying to be your best self for 48 minutes out there.”

The action of the NBA’s final regular-season stretch continues on Monday as East contenders in the Chicago Bulls and Philadelphia 76ers face off, along with the Warriors visiting the Nuggets and the Lakers hoping to keep wins rolling against the San Antonio Spurs.

U.S. Secretary of State and Brittney Griner’s Wife Release Statements on Detained WNBA Star

Britteny

WNBA Star, two-time Olympic Gold Medalist, and Phoenix Mercury center, Brittney Griner, is currently in the custody of the Russian government for alleged possessions of hashish oil cartridges. The drug charges for Griner come in the middle of the war between Russia and Ukraine, where tensions are high, and relationships with America are strained.

Speaking with ESPN, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said the United States will “provide every possible assistance” to Griner and other citizens held in other nations.

Griner has played the last five WNBA offseasons overseas, where higher salaries are for women players. Griner has been in custody since early February.

“There’s only so much I can say given the privacy considerations at this point,” Blinken. “Whenever an American is detained anywhere in the world, we, of course, stand ready to provide every possible assistance, and that includes in Russia.”

He added, “We have an embassy team that’s working on the cases of other Americans who are detained in Russia. We’re doing everything we can to see to it that their rights are upheld and respected.”

In addition to Blinken, Griner’s wife, Cherelle Griner, released a statement on Instagram:

“Thank you to everyone who has reached out to me regarding my wife’s safe return from Russia. Your prayers and support are greatly appreciated. I love my wife wholeheartedly, so this message comes during one of the weakest moments of my life. I understand that many of you have grown to love BG over the years and have concerns and want details. Please honor our privacy as we continue to work on getting my wife home safely.

Thank you!”

– Cherelle Griner

Following her detainment, America has released an additional “do not travel” warning for Russia.

SOURCE SPORTS: NFL And NFLPA Agree to End All COVID-19 Testing and Protocols Effective Immediately

NFL Launches 'Inspire Change Initiative' to Enact Positive Change in Inner City Communities

The NFL is throwing the towel in when it comes to COVID-19 testing. The NFL and NFL Players Association have agreed to suspend all COVID-19 protocols and testing as of right now.

“Based on current encouraging trends regarding the prevalence and severity of COVID-19, the evolving guidance from the CDC, changes to state law and the counsel of our respective experts, the NFL and NFLPA have agreed to suspend all aspects of the joint COVID-19 Protocols, effective immediately,” the memo reads.

The memo added that even given the suspension of the league’s protocols, “clubs are required to remain in compliance with state and local law.”

Individuals are still asked to monitor themselves for symptoms daily. According to the memo, anybody experiencing COVID-19 symptoms must report them to the club and test negative before entering the team facility. Any individual who tests positive must isolate for five days after their test.

By the time training camps and the regular season gets underway again, the NFL is looking at the pandemic as a thing of the past. There is no telling yet if other sports leagues will follow the NFL’s stance on COVID testing. As the positivity rate continues to go down, we may very well be heading toward endemic status.
