2Pac’s Former Manager Recalls Discovering Him: “He Was It”

During a recent interview with Allison Kugel, 2Pac’s former manager Leila Steinberg opened up about the late performer’s early career. According to her, he was discovered because she was hunting for someone who was able to strike a middle ground, making topics of social justice palatable to young listeners. She says that upon first hearing the hitmaker’s poetry, she knew he was it.

“The reason 2Pac came about is because I kept saying, ‘Oh gosh, we need a rapper that is about social justice, that gets some of the same things [as me],’” Steinburg explained. “I kept looking for someone that was kind of like me. Someone who read like cr*zy and could tackle issues that we don’t talk about. Public Enemy was too radical. There were artists that were in hip hop that were using their voices, but they couldn’t penetrate the schools, because they were too extreme.”

“I was looking for somebody that could straddle these worlds like I could,” she added. “One day Luanda, who was one of our group members said there was a kid that just came from Baltimore, and that he was it. She’s the reason ‘Pac came to the group. He had lots of poems. Poems, lyrics… and from the first poem, I knew.”

Obviously, her inkling was correct, and he went on to become an icon ahead of his 1996 passing. 2Pac continues to be one of the most well-respected figures in the history of his genre, largely due to the complex issues he tackles in his music. Unfortunately, elsewhere in the interview Steinberg also recalled him signing to Death Row, revealing that she believes that was what cost him his life. NFL's Inspire Change Initiative Hits $300 Million in Support for Social Justice

The NFL today revealed that the league’s Inspire Change campaign had received more than $300 million in social justice donations from the NFL Family. This achievement comes as the NFL and the Players Coalition renewed 15 grant partnerships to encourage further improvements in police-community relations, criminal justice reform, education, and economic development.

“Players Coalition and the NFL have collaborated over the past five years through Inspire Change grants to help drive direct impact by supporting organizations at the frontlines of social justice and racial equity work,” said Anquan Boldin, co-founder of Players Coalition. “While the work is far from over, we look forward to advancing aligned partnerships with grant recipients and building on our continued partnership with the NFL to address priority social justice issues.”

“The NFL Family is proud to have contributed more than $300 million to support social justice efforts in communities across the country, but our work is far from over,” said Anna Isaacson, NFL Senior Vice President, Social Responsibility. “The positive impact of this work is being felt every day, and we are committed to continuing our efforts with players, clubs, and our Inspire Change grant partners to break down barriers to opportunity and end systemic racism.”

“There was no reason for the NFL to care about what was happening in Alabama except that they legitimately wanted to help solve problems,” said Carla Crowder, Executive Director of Alabama Appleseed. “The NFL gave us not only resources to hire more people, but a national platform to lift up the crisis around prisons, excessive punishment, and the human rights of incarcerated Alabamians.”

The Player-Owner Social Justice Committee, which consists of a 10-person panel of players, Legends, and team owners, recently approved the 15 renewal grants. Nonprofit groups that are bringing about measurable change in all four areas of Inspire Change are given grants.

Jalen Rose Shares Thoughts On Phil Jackson’s Comments: Video

Jalen Rose didn’t hold back his feelings on what Phil Jackson had to say over the weekend. Jackson was asked about the current NBA product but claimed he doesn’t watch the game. The NBA head coaching legend stated that he hasn’t watched the game since 2020. “They even had slogans on the floor and the baseline. It was trying… to bring a certain audience to the game, and they didn’t know it was turning other people off. People want to see sports as non-political.”

Obviously, those statements were sure to incite a powerful response. As Rose is coming to the forefront of defending the league in a recent tweet. In the video tweeted by Rose, the former NBA star asked Jackson what is so political about social justice. Rose went on to remind Jackson that his coaching success in the NBA came off of the back of great black athletes. In the video, Rose named Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Shaquille O’Neal, and Kobe Bryant as the big names that created Jackson’s legacy.

Colin Kaepernick Pays For Deceased Inmate’s Autopsy

Colin Kaepernick is coming to the aid of a family desperately looking for answers. According to TMZ, Kaepernick is paying for the autopsy of LaShawn Thompson. Thompson died in the custody of the Fulton County jail back in 2022. Now Thompson’s family is looking for an answer to Thompson’s death. According to the story, the family believes that the sanitation of the cell holding Thompson is to blame for his tragic passing. However, Thompson’s first autopsy gave undetermined results to his death.

Kaepernick is now paying for a second autopsy to be completed on Thompson. Sources close to Kaepernick claim that he is frustrated and angry with the entire situation. The second autopsy will be completed by an independent source. Thompson was arrested back in 2022 for a misdemeanor simple battery. Photos of Thompson’s cell have been released. Kaepernick has taken a strong stance on social justice since his days in the NFL. Obviously, Kaepernick hasn’t been seen in the league since taking the action of kneeling during the National Anthem is a form of protest for social justice. Additionally, Kaepernick’s actions caused a whirlwind of news, with people wanting him banned from the league. Although Kaepernick has put on workouts in the past few years for teams. The former Nevada product was last seen in the league back in 2016. However, no franchise has decided to bring in the former San Francisco quarterback.

But it seems now Kaepernick is fighting for things bigger than a chance to play football again. The former QB is looking to help a family find answers in their time of need. Kaepernick has become a polarizing figure over the last few years. Now he is just looking for answers to the true cause of the death of Thompson.
