JG X PATRON Partnership John Geiger 1

PATRÓN Tequila, the world’s number one super-premium tequila, is raising a glass and celebrating Cinco de Mayo in their best way: family. PATRÓN and renowned streetwear designer John Geiger have collaborated to release the limited-edition PATRÓN x John Geiger GF-01 sneakers, which feature a colorway and unique materials inspired by the brand’s agave fields in Jalisco, Mexico. The high-end shoe exemplifies PATRÓN’s commitment to perfection and John’s meticulous attention to detail in his one-of-a-kind designs. The limited-edition PATRÓN x John Geiger GF-01 sneakers will be available on johngeigerco.com on May 5th at 5 p.m. EST.

These sneakers are as versatile as PATRÓN Silver tequila, taking you from the courts to the cocktail bar and everything in between. The co-branded shoes replicate John Geiger’s characteristic street style, embellished with his ‘g’ emblem, while notably blending iconography of the iconic PATRÓN bee and classic green and white hue throughout, utilizing specialty leather inspired by agave fields in Jalisco, PATRÓN’s heartland.

“I’m consistently inspired and impressed by PATRÓN. I loved working with them last year on our streetwear collection and this is another collaboration truly driven by passion,” said John Geiger, designer. “It was only fitting to go bigger and better for Cinco de Mayo with an epic sneaker drop that takes the designs we created with them last year to the next level. I was really inspired by the green that you’ll see in the leather detailing, evocative of the heart of PATRÓN, the agave pinas from the fields in Jalisco, Mexico.”

“PATRÓN has a captivating energy that brings like-minded partners together with us; these collaborators become part of our familiar,” said Chloe Lloyd-Jones, VP Marketing of PATRÓN Tequila. “Sharing a passion for craft and bold innovation, PATRÓN is excited to be teaming up with John again to bring this unique offering to life in time for Cinco de Mayo, a moment that is all about gathering with great company and great cocktails.”

Vans Is Suing MSCHF Over Tyga’s Wavy Baby Sneakers, Calling Them Trademark Infringement

Brooklyn-based art collective MSCHF’s sneaker collaborations with rappers have drawn both excitement and controversy. The group’s “Satan Shoe” collab with Lil Nas X not only drew fire from conservative commentators but also got slapped with a lawsuit from Nike. Now, another of MSCHF’s sneaker crossovers is the subject of a trademark infringement lawsuit. This time, Vans is suing the customizer over its Tyga-endorsed Wavy Baby sneaker, which alters what appears to be a pair of Vans Old Skools, giving them a bizarre, curvy sole and adjusting the iconic side stripes to match.

Although the shoes were set to release on April 18, Vans filed for a restraining order against MSCHF, saying the Wavy Baby shoes violated its trademarks and would confuse customers into thinking they were an official Vans collaboration. MSCHF, however, argues that the shoes are an artistic parody commenting on sneakerhead culture, consumerism, and corporate sneaker collaborations. According to Billboard, Megan K. Bannigan, MSCHF’s attorney in the case, told a judge in Brooklyn federal court Wednesday, “These shoes comment on consumerism, on the absurdity of sneakerhead culture. This was released as an art project. It was not released in competition with Vans.”

MSCHF also pointed out that all 4,000 pairs of the limited edition shoes already sold out, and the company has no intention to make more. However, according to Billboard, US District Judge William F. Kuntz seemed skeptical, saying, “The Wavy Baby might have Wavy Babies, and I think that’s what they’re afraid of. If that wasn’t an issue, I don’t think we’d be here.” He agreed to the restraining order but did not advise when it might be pushed through. Similarly, the Lil Nas X Satan Shoe case wound up with both companies settling, with MSCHF asking customers to voluntarily return their pairs — fat chance — and Nike issuing a statement that any complaints should be directed to MSCHF, not them.

Yeezy QNTM ‘Mono Carbon’ Drops with a softer look

Yeezy QNTM Mono Carbon

Although Kanye West has shown absolutely no sign of getting softer in the past two years, his most recent shoe drop, the Yeezy QNTM ‘Mono Carbon’ has, debuting this week with a softer look than the original 2020 version, just in time for spring.

The ‘Mono Carbon’ has the same general overall style as the original QNTM, which was released in 2020. The shoe is similar in that it’s base is a marbled grey Primeknit underneath gray wavy suede, creating a contrasting sense of horizontal and vertical movement. It has a milky suede toe wrap and semi-translucent milky sole, just slightly more off-white than the original 2020 version. However, the main difference is the carbon suede heel and upper, which feature three similar shades of carbon gray.  The laces (also carbon gray) are similar to the original shoe design. Like the original, the newest shoe has a full-length Boost midsole.

The charcoal gray coloring makes this an incredibly versatile shoe for this time of year, when winter and spring seem to overlap and switch back and forth in many parts of the country.

The QNTM ‘Mono Carbon’ retails for about $260 and is available online at select retailers. More information about releases and availability can be found at https://www.adidas.com/us/yeezy.

Reebok to Celebrate Shaquille O’Neal with Shaqnosis “Athlete’s Choice” Sneaker

Shaqnosis Basketball Shoes White GX9663 03 standard

Reebok is set to release the Shaqnosis “Athlete’s Choice,” which is inspired by Shaq’s “Big Aristotle” alias and ancient Greece. The sneaker will release exclusively on Reebok.com on April 8 at $150.

Shaq earned the moniker “Big Aristotle” after his MVP campaign in 2000. The Shaqnosis “Athlete’s Choice” design draws inspiration from classic Aristotle artworks, sculptures, and ancient Greek culture through texture, substance, and color.

The sneaker has a marble base inspired by statues and sculptures, with desaturated color and contrast comparable to antique paintings. Natural fibers on the upper body are reminiscent of Ancient Greek clothing and robes. The purple heel is a nod to the color purple, which in Ancient Greece was associated with social status and wealth.

The first-known ideas of color were developed by Aristotle. Colors were assigned to earth, fire, wind, and water, and he proposed that all color originated with white and black.

You can see the sneaker below.

Tyler, the Creator Inspires Young Creatives in All Star Series

TylerTalk6

Following the announcement of his new sneaker with Converse, the Golf Wang Chuck 70 Python, Tyler, the Creator, teamed with the brand to host “Converse All Star Series: A Talk with Tyler, The Creator.”

An intimate conversation with Tyler was held at the event, which was attended by 19 young creatives from Los Angeles who are all members of the Converse All Stars community, a global network that connects young creatives to each other and the brand through digital and physical experiences, commissioned work, and mentorship opportunities.

Tyler gave advice for budding creatives, his experience working with Converse, his creative process and motivation, and more during the chat moderated by Bimma Williams.

“I had this idea to make a shoe,” Tyler said on how he connected with Converse. “We were going to do it on our own. That s— is really hard. Like really hard to get it right. A friend of mine by the name of Pharrel Williams, was like ‘Yo! Lil bro, how’s the shoe thing going?’ and I’m like ‘We’re figuring it out, we just got a few samples, they’re horrible. This is going to be a long winded process.’ He’s like ‘hold on, I’m going to put you in contact with someone names Paul that works at Converse. You don’t have to do anything with him but he might have some insight for you.’”

He added, “Long story short, well, small world. That guy knew Clancey, my manager, for years. So that was an easy thing, met up with him blah blah blah. Ended up meeting with Tim and Lindsey and was like okay let’s just do something together because they had the resources and I’m like I’m here to learn.

“When it comes to things like that I don’t really have an ego I’m like teach me, whatever. Then, from there the illest relationship happened. A lot of people aren’t even able to say this but man they let me do whatever the f— I want and it’s been the illest relationship that I’ve had with a company. It’s awesome.”

You can hear the entire conversation and see images from the event below.
