WATCH: Trump Dodges Question on National Abortion Ban as Harris Criticizes Overturn of Roe v. Wade

LIVE ABC News Presidential Debate Harris and Trump meet in Philadelphia 1 32 29 screenshot

During a heated exchange, former President Donald Trump evaded answering whether he would sign a national abortion ban into law if re-elected. When pressed repeatedly on his stance, Trump refrained from committing to a clear response, fueling speculation about his plans for a potential second term.

Well, I didn’t discuss it with JD in all fairness. JD… and I don’t mind if he has a certain view, but I think he was speaking for me. But I really didn’t. Look, we don’t have to discuss it because she’d never be able to get it. Just like she couldn’t get student loans. They couldn’t get student loans. They couldn’t get student loans. They didn’t even come close to getting student loans. They taunted young people and a lot of other people that had loans. They can never get this approved. So it doesn’t matter what she says about going to Congress, oh wonderful. Let’s go to Congress. Do it. But the fact is that for years they wanted to get it out of Congress and out of the federal government. And we did something that everybody said couldn’t be done. And now you have a vote of the people on abortion.

– Donald Trump

This comes as Vice President Kamala Harris strongly condemned Trump and his Project 2025 agenda, emphasizing that it aims to ban abortion nationwide. Harris positioned herself as a defender of reproductive rights, pledging to restore the protections of Roe v. Wade and safeguard women’s freedoms across the United States.

The back-and-forth has sparked a wave of reactions online, highlighting the stark contrast between the two candidates on the divisive issue of abortion. With the 2024 presidential election approaching, the debate over reproductive rights remains a key battleground, underscoring the deep ideological divide between Trump and Harris on this crucial issue.

Trump Boasts About Restricting Women’s Reproductive Rights: ‘No Regrets’

Trump Questions VP Kamala Harris Race at NABJ Conference: 'She Happened to Turn Black'

The Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade remains deeply unpopular, with two-thirds of Americans opposing the ruling. The Dobbs decision has already had significant impacts across the country—doctors are being threatened with jail time for providing essential care, maternity services are suffering in red states, and women are being forced to travel hundreds of miles to access necessary healthcare.

Despite this, former President Donald Trump continues to tout his role in the landmark decision on the campaign trail. In a recent interview with CBS News, Trump was asked if he regrets the decision. His response was straightforward: “No regrets.”

In response, Harris-Walz 2024 Spokesperson Sarafina Chitika issued a statement: “Donald Trump overturned Roe v. Wade, ripped away women’s freedoms in all 50 states, and wears it like a badge of honor. Give him the chance, and he’ll go even further and ban abortion nationwide.”

Chitika added, “The American people have no regrets about making Donald a one-term president. They’ll make him a two-time loser this November.”

Jane Fonda Jokingly Suggests “Murder” To Support Women’s Reproductive Rights

Jane Fonda suggested “murder” as a way of fighting for women’s reproductive rights during a recent appearance on The View. After the clip went viral, the iconic actress later clarified to Fox News that she made the comment in jest. On the show, she had been discussing the overturning of Roe v. Wade with her Grace and Frankie co-star, Lily Tomlin.

“We have experienced many decades now of having agency over our body, of being able to determine when and how many children to have,” she said. “We now what that feels like, we know what that’s done for our lives. We’re not going back. I don’t care what the laws are. We’re not going back… It’s the truth. We’re not going to do it.” When asked by host Joy Behar, “Besides marching and protesting, what else do you suggest?” Fonda bluntly remarked, “murder”.

As for her statement for Fox News, Fonda wrote: “While women’s reproductive rights are a very serious issue and extremely important to me, my comment on The View was obviously made in jest. My body language and tone made it clear to those in the room – and to anyone watching – that I was using hyperbole to make a point.” She added: “Women across the country are facing real threats when it comes to our bodies, and people lose faith in our mission to protect women when others choose to focus on tangential issues and passing jokes instead of the actual problem at hand.”

The comments sparked plenty of backlash on social media. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene was among the voices to speak out against Fonda on Twitter. “Calling for us to be assassinated makes ‘The View,’ the hosts, the producers, the network, the advertisers, and everyone involved responsible for death threats, attacks, and potential murders of Pro-Life politicians and activists,” she said in part. She also labeled herself an “Unapologetic Pro-Life Politician.”

Latto Drops A New Single, ‘P*ssy,’ In Support Of Reproductive Equality

Still riding the highs of her critically-acclaimed sophomore album, 777, Latto is back with a new empowering anthem. On her new single, “P*ssy,” the Atlanta rapper is responding to the recent overturn of Roe v. Wade.

On the blaring beat, Latto raps, “How you ain’t got a p*ssy, but got opinions on p*ssy? / That’s p*ssy / My ovaries ain’t for you to bully.”

Latto announced the single earlier this week, and while many responded in support, others accused her of trying to capitalize off of the loss of the right to safe, legal abortion.

“Using serious issues to promote your song is wild,” said Twitter user @cruelfantasy. Latto replied, saying she was simply doing what rappers have done for decades.

“Orrrr I took my frustrations to the booth like a RAPPER & using my platform to spread awareness,” she said.

Another Twitter user claimed Latto was using the overturn to make a profit, to which she replied confirming she would be donating proceeds from the song to presumably pro-choice organizations.

“I actually am donating proceeds,” she responded. “Yall be the same ones saying ‘why u gotta post everything’ if I do & assume I’m not doing it if I don’t post it lol however I AM using my power (platform) to make a change regardless shut yo fake woke ass up what are YOU doing???”

Eminem Is ‘PIssed Off’ About The Supreme Court Overturning Roe V. Wade: ‘We Are F*ckin’ Goin’ Backwards’

Although Eminem has always had a reputation as something of a provocateur, in recent years, a lot of his most inflammatory statements have been reserved for current events as his targets shifted from pop stars to political figures. In 2017, he went after Donald Trump multiple times, most notably during his BET Hip-Hop Award Cypher verse and during an appearance at the Reading Festival in the UK. More recently, he took a knee in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick’s 2016 protests against racial injustice during the Super Bowl Halftime Show, an action that riled some conservative commentators.

So it should come as no surprise that Eminem has similarly weighed in on the biggest political shift of the past week — or even of the past fifty years. Last week, the Supreme Court voted to overturn one of the landmark rulings of the past century, Roe V. Wade. The move prompted an outcry from celebrities and musicians of all stripes, with singers like Lorde and Phoebe Bridgers leading “f*ck the Supreme Court” chants and Kendrick Lamar calling for the protection of women’s rights during their performances at Glastonbury.

Eminem has joined this cadre of outspoken pop stars, tweeting, “As a father, it pisses me off that women have fewer rights 2day than just a few days ago. We r fuckin goin bckwards.” The proud Detroiter also provided a resource link in his tweet, writing, “Here’s how to help in Michigan.”

You don’t have to be a father to appreciate that many people feel unsafe as a result of this new landmark ruling and that there’s a sense that things can certainly get worse from here. However, there may be a bright side: When even Donald Trump admits that the move was a strategic mistake for the Republican Party, potentially galvanizing Democrats in the Senate to do… literally anything, there might just be some course correction in the near future.

Kendrick Lamar Chants For Women’s Rights While Bleeding From A Crown Of Thorns At His Glastonbury Performance

Kendrick Lamar takes his performances very seriously, especially the visual aspect and what it conveys. At this weekend’s Glastonbury Festival in England, the Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers artist perhaps made his biggest statement yet, assuming the role of Jesus Christ by sporting a diamond crown of thorns and alluding to the recent Roe v. Wade decision.

The DAMN rapper repeatedly exclaims “They judge you, they judge Christ, Godspeed for women’s rights” as blood pours out from his crown of thorns. His voice crescendoes as he says the phrase over and over before aggressively dropping the microphone and leaving the stage as his backup dancers pose statically.

This display is major for such a controversial decision, especially coming from a rapper who spent his last album humanizing himself after years of being placed on a pedestal due to social activism and messaging. Regardless of his standing, Kendrick Lamar has always been an advocate for the things he believes in even if the majority of people disagree, like his support of XXXTentacion or aligning with Kodak Black on Mr. Morale, for example. With a platform like his, this will send a message through the United States despite it being done overseas.

Lizzo And Live Nation Pledge To Donate $1 Million To Planned Parenthood And Pro-Choice Organizations

Lizzo is one of several artists who have spoken out against the overturn of Roe v. Wade. Ahead of her upcoming tour in support of her upcoming second major-label album, Special, the “About Damn Time” rapper is teaming up with Live Nation to donate a portion of the sales from her tour to Planned Parenthood.

“I’m pledging $500k from my upcoming tour to Planned Parenthood and Abortion Rights,” she said in an Instagram post. “Live Nation agreed to match— to make it 1 MILLION dollars.”

Lizzo continued, emphasizing the importance of remaining vocal and providing funds to organizations aimed toward helping people affected by today’s ruling, including Planned Parenthood and the National Network Of Abortion Funds.

“Black women & women of color have historically had disproportionately less access to family planning resources— this is a great loss but not a new one,” Lizzo continued.

Throughout her career, Lizzo has been outspoken in her support of marginalized communities. Earlier this month, she re-recorded a portion of her song “Grrls,” when fans expressed concern over an ableist slur in the song’s lyrics. “As an influential artist I’m dedicated to being part of the change I’ve been waiting to see in the world,” she said.

Lizzo’s Special tour is set to kick off in September, with guest, Latto.
