Chloe Bailey & 4batz Set The Vibes For Our New “R&B Season” Playlist Update: Stream

Our R&B Season playlist is back to round up some of the genre’s best adjacent releases of the week, and its first addition sets a moody tone moving forward. Moreover, 4batz continues his rise to the higher echelons of industry popularity with their new single, “act iii: on god? (she like).” It’s a pretty ethereal, melancholy, and slow-moving ballad that moves away from the rap fusions of previous singles like “act ii: date @ 8,” which is what we featured on here. Given the interesting dichotomy between his image and his actual vocal tone and singing style, this might go down as one of the most interesting careers to follow in 2024.

Furthermore, another great but more established artist on our R&B Season playlist update is Chloe Bailey, better known as Chlöe. Her new single “FYS,” or “F**k Your Status,” is a sultry and atmospheric offering that also goes in a slower and more drowsy direction. The In Pieces singer also moves between a couple of different-paced flows and deliveries to give some extra dynamism to the otherwise static and intoxicating sonic pallet. She already dropped a full-length last year, but fans hope that she reunites with her sister Halle for more music soon.

Meanwhile, the only project on display for this R&B Season playlist update is Kenyon Dixon’s new EP The R&B You Love: Soul Of The ’70s. It expands on his 2023 album, and features the gorgeous, tender, and romantic “Can I Have This Groove.” Not only that, but the project’s title is actually a really solid indicator of what this take on the genre sounds like if you’re familiar with 1970s releases. It may not move with the wildest progressions, but the musicianship and execution is sharp and locked in.

Finally, we wanted to shout out two more singles that you should give a try. “You Don’t Call Me” by PxRRY and featuring JON VINYL and Tone Stith, plus Honey Bxby and Busta Rhymes’ “Touchin’,” are two opposite ends of energy and vibrance that nail both approaches. Let us know what your favorite R&B Season inclusion was this week, plus what else we missed. Check out the playlist above and, as always, come back to HNHH for the latest great music drops around the clock.

SZA, SiR & Justin Timberlake Complete Our “R&B Season” Playlist Update: Stream

There’s not a lot to cover on our R&B Season playlist update this week, but we still rounded up our absolute favorite drops this week for your convenience and pleasure. Leading the way is the brand-new track from SZA, “Saturn,” which she had previewed at the 2024 Grammy Awards and then released in multiple versions (sped-up, acapella, instrumental, etc.). With bright synth piano keys, a crisp and echoed percussive pattern, and the St. Louis native’s trademark buttery vocals, this song puts you in a trance very quickly. Although SOS dominated 2023, we’ll never complain about new Solana material to keep us under her spell, of which there should be more very soon.

In addition, we wanted to shout out the new single from Justin Timberlake, “Drown,” on our R&B Season playlist update. Whereas the pop star’s most famous material might be more bombastic and club-ready in many’s eyes (or ears, rather), this new song proves that some of his greatest strengths have always been in charismatic melodic performances, woozier tempos, and more intoxicating additions to a sonic atmosphere. Minimal drums, airy synth chords, and a measured but nevertheless engaging vocal performance make this a relatively dreamy cut. It does sound very clean and sanitized, but its adherence to R&B tropes and production, plus a nice beat variation, keep us listening.

Finally, we wanted to give the TDE crew special props on R&B Season, as label mates SiR and Isaiah Rashad dropped off another hazy track with “Karma.” This is another single for the former’s upcoming project, which is shaping up to be a low-key but well-crafted and highly compelling offering. With this new record, the two artists show off a lot of chemistry while lyrically diving into the concepts of karma and riding a dry but stankface-inducing drum beat with ease. We can’t wait for what’s next!

On that note, what was your favorite R&B Season cut this week? What else did we miss? Drop your thoughts in the comments down below and check out the playlist above. Also, as always, stick around on HNHH for the latest great music drops around the clock.

Beyonce Runs The World On Our New “R&B Season” Playlist Update: Stream

February is ramping 2024 up to be a big year for music, and our R&B Season playlist update is here to round up the best of the best. Leading the way is none other than Beyoncé, who just released two new country songs ahead of her Act II album dropping later this year on March 29. “16 CARRIAGES” is definitely the softer of the two cuts, with a slow tempo, rough stomps and kicks, echoing claps, and atmospheric string and organ arrangements. On the other hand, “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” has more of a traditional hoedown swing and gorgeously light and breezy guitars and banjos.

Next up on our R&B Season update is the new song from Jessie Reyez for the Bob Marley film, One Love. Her rendition of “Is This Love” is a bit of a sultrier and more woozy take on the original classic, with even more wah-heavy guitar licks and more elaborate vocal harmonies. Other tracks for this project have also given fresh spins on these untouchable anthems, and it’s been at least curious to see these new treatments. Reyez in particular does a great job of paying tribute to the reggae legend’s tone and delivery here.

Furthermore, we also wanted to shout out the new cut from Amaal Nuux on here, “Late To The Party.” This week, this is the song that adds a more contemporary production feel and hip-hop fusion on our R&B Season update. It’s still indebted mostly to soul, but the sharp snares, simple kick pattern, and occasional cowbell hits would envelop a lot of different fans of different genres. To top it all off and bring it all together is a delicate performance from the Somali-Canadian singer-songwriter.

Finally, we wanted to give a shoutout to Emotional Oranges’ new single, “Ready.” The snaps and watery production here roots this firmly in ’90s inspiration, and the modern sheen on the vocals and reverb effects give it a nice touch. Let us know what your favorite R&B Season addition was this week in the comments blow -– and what else we missed, too. Check the playlist out above and stick around on HNHH for more great music drops each week.

Usher & Little Simz Get Grand On Our New “R&B Season” Playlist Update: Stream

It’s a big month for new music releases, and our R&B Season playlist update is here to round up the best soulful jams from this week. Leading the way is a massive one, which comes paired with an even more massive event. Moreover, Usher previewed his Super Bowl halftime show with a brand new album, COMING HOME, which released over the weekend. It has a lot of different melodic styles, aesthetic approaches, and dynamic displays of his vocal range and songwriting talent. If you’re looking for a couple of tracks to clue you into the project, we’d recommend “Kissing Strangers” and “Stone Kold Freak” as particular highlights.

Furthermore, our R&B Season update also contains a pretty big team-up between superstar artists in the fields of R&B and hip-hop. Of course, we’re referring to the new collaborative single between Jermaine Dupri, Nelly, Ashanti, and Juicy J, which is titled “This Lil’ Game We Play.” It’s a fast-paced and heavily danceable jam with a lot of personality, lust, and plenty of charisma from its artists. It’s been a long time since we got a radio-style song that encompasses pure fun, and nothing more to crowd up the mix.

In addition, the most underrated pick on our R&B Season update is easily the new release from Tommy Richman, a dual single with “SOULCRUSHER” and “WHAT DO U LIKE.” Specifically, we want to shout out the latter for its creative flip of Jersey club rhythms in a wavier and more melodically constant atmosphere than what those beats typically match with. It’s a pretty catchy song with simple synth embellishments and a lot of layered harmonies. If there’s something more long-form on the way from Richman, we can’t wait to dive in.

Finally, for the best music release of the week, we have the one and only Little Simz’s new EP, Drop 7. Similar to “WHAT DO U LIKE,” which brightened and re-contextualized Jersey club, Simz’s “Far Away” revitalizes those drums, while also giving the same treatment to drill. It’s a gorgeous cut vocally, and the tender pianos anchor it in a dreamy mood. Let us know what your favorite R&B Season pick was this week, and what else we missed too. Check out the playlist above and, as always, stick around on HNHH for the latest great music releases around the clock.

Usher & Zacari Bring The Smoothness To Our New “R&B Season” Playlist Update: Stream

February isn’t getting any hotter for the northern hemisphere, but that doesn’t mean that the soul is getting colder. Moreover, we rounded up the very best of the best new music of the week on our new R&B Season playlist update in this genre’s field. While sometimes that genre barrier can become a little blurry, this next collaboration and artist falls firmly in that camp. Of course, we’re talking about “The King Of R&B,” Usher, and his newest team-up with Pheelz, their single “Ruin.” However, while the vocals definitely fit within that style, the Afrobeat-inspired beat makes for a uniquely breezy take that shows off a lot of vocal strength.

Next up on our R&B Season playlist update is the new Zacari song, “Ocean,” which is a another smooth and pleasant jam. Of course, the vocalist does very well switching between lower tones and high-pitched falsettos, which gives some nice dynamism to the guitar-led beat. Also, additional production elements such as flanging, atmospheric synth pads, and more add to the emotive punch of the song and make it stand out from a typical ballad. Overall, it’s an easy add to a driving playlist or for more chill vibes.

Speaking of atmosphere, we’d be remiss not to shout out SAFE’s new song, “Same Night,” on this week’s R&B Season playlist update. It’s another romantic cut that finds strength in its warbled samples and slow, reverb-drenched drum beat with sharp snares and crisp hi-hats. Not only that, but his vocals never overwhelm the instrumentation and vice versa, and it’s a very nice balance between tense swells and melancholy valleys. Even though it’s not the most eventful track here, it’s exactly the kind of mood-setting that much of this genre champions so well.

Finally, we wanted to give a nod to Daniel Caesar’s soft and patient cover of “Waiting In Vain” by Bob Marley, off of One Love – Music Inspired By The Film. This reimagining is definitely more sultry and less joyful than its original, but its strong sentiment and narrative core still holds on tight. Let us know in the comments what your favorite release on our R&B Season playlist update was this week -– and what else we missed, too. Check out the playlist above and, as always, log back into HNHH for more great music drops around the clock.

Teezo Touchdown Scores Big On Our New “R&B Season” Playlist Update: Stream

While it’s not the most stacked one in our history, this R&B Season playlist update still contains some of the best music to have dropped this week. Leading the way is the star-studded Lyrical Lemonade album All Is Yellow, put together by Cole Bennett and all the supporting artists. One of the most soulful and tender cuts on the project is the excellent “Hummingbird,” which reunites a compelling and eclectic cast. Teezo Touchdown, SahBabii, and UMI come together with a lot of chemistry over some acoustic guitar flutters and harmonious background vocals. Not only that, but it also finds each musician slightly out of their comfort zone thanks to the unexpected nature of this collab, although Teezo is certainly cozy with surprises and fusions.

Next on our R&B Season playlist update is Rhyan Douglas’ new single “Conversations,” which kicks off with woozy and swirling vocal samples. Eventually, it falls into the sultry and snap-led R&B rhythm that we’ve grown to love from the genre, complete with high-pitched, ethereal croons. Eventually, vocal processing, soft piano, and dynamic range from Douglas fleshes out the song a little bit more, yet it doesn’t lose its atmosphere. In fact, it’s impressive and surprising that the record never swells or explodes percussively, yet you can still feel a strong momentum as you’re closing it out.

Meanwhile, back to projects on our R&B Season playlist, we have a new four-track EP (Blended) from Emotional Oranges and Nonso Amadi. It’s a light, breezy, and easy-going bite-sized treat of dancehall, Afrobeat, and soul fusions, of which “Simple Things” is a particular highlight. Again, we have guitars leading the way melodically and chord-wise, whereas all vocalists can show off their range and runs in this lovey-dovey narrative. While the identity of the song is a bit blurry, this treatment of different styles is also what will make it resonate for many listeners out there.

Finally, we have a new release from SiR, the two-and-a-half-minute slow burn “No Evil.” Thanks to growly bass, soaring and raspy vocals, and the otherwise dreamy atmosphere on the song, this is one of the most passionate and hard-hitting cuts you’ll find all week, even if it’s a little strong on the ears on first impact. With that in mind, let us know what your favorite R&B Season playlist pick was this week -– and what else we missed, too. Blxst & Kyle Dion Lighten The Mood On Our New “R&B Season” Playlist Update: Stream

Our R&B Season playlist is back this week, rounding up the best jams, bops, and bangers that came out for your convenience. We have a couple of hot singles to talk about this time around, including Blxst’s latest effort, “Heart Ain’t Empty.” Moreover, this track opens up with soft and gorgeous keys, which leads to a characteristically buttery vocal performance from him. In fact, the song maintains this vibe throughout its entire runtime, spotlighting the West Coast artist’s penchant for honest lyricism and focused melodic treatments. It’s definitely one of the most easy-going and consistent cuts you’ll hear this week, but it’s R&B Season; what else did you expect?

Furthermore, another cut that will warm your heart this winter season (if you live in applicable weather, of course) is Naomi Sharon’s “Nothing Sweeter.” Not only does this single’s leading acoustic guitar crisply guide her croons, but very subtle synth pad additions give the song an extra earthiness. As far as the singer’s lyricism, it’s another pontification on love, particularly the emotions that surge with a first-time meeting. Few cuts this week will embody this spirit as well, and it’s an amazing way to kick off a morning in our view.

Sole cuts aside, we also have two brand-new, short, but nonetheless gratifying projects to talk about on this R&B Season update. The first is DESTIN CONRAD’s SUBMISSIVE2, on which “IT’S ONLY YOU” is a sultry, slow-burning, dancehall-inspired highlight. In addition, there’s Kyle Dion’s latest collection, If My Jeans Could Talk, on which there’s a lot of charisma and personality. Furthermore, “Kissy” is a bright, passionate, and funky escapade that might emulate the feeling you get when that special person sweeps you off your feet.

Rounding out our additions is the newest single from Honey Bxby featuring Kaliii, “Touchin’,” with a nice R&B-rap blend and an undeniable bassline. Finally, we want to shout out “Millionth Time” by Joël Lobban for its well-paced and dreamy atmosphere. Let us know in the comments what your favorite R&B Season selection this week was -– and what else we missed, too. Kali Uchis & Jhene Aiko Update Our “R&B Season” Playlist With Grace: Stream

Our R&B Season playlist is back with another update, rounding up some of the best new music that releases this week. Moreover, when it comes to more soulful releases, there was one big album that we can’t go any longer without mentioning: Kali Uchis’ new album ORQUÍDEAS. Two specific tracks that go great together off this gorgeous project actually dropped as a joint music video the day before the record dropped: “Tu Corazón Es Mío / Diosa.” What’s more is that the Colombian-Virginian artist used this visual to officially announce that she and Don Toliver are expecting a child together. Congratulations to the happy couple!

Elsewhere on our R&B Season update, we also shouted out the newest offering from Jhené Aiko, “Sun/Son.” It’s a vocally wondrous cut with a lot of layered harmonies, syncopated chants, and comfortingly warm piano and synth keys that will calm you down. Complimenting this all is a sultry and steady drum beat with crisp rimshots that sit comfortably in the back of the mix. However, the name of the game is the Chilombo star’s captivating performance, as she fills in the empty spaces of this song with a lot of passion and with dynamic range.

Meanwhile, another highlight on R&B Season this week comes courtesy of The Book Of Clarence‘s soundtrack, on which the film’s director Jeymes Samuel worked extensively. Furthermore, he and Jorja Smith crafted another impassioned, orchestral, and grand piece with “Champagne,” soulfully bringing a slow funkiness to the collection. Another standouvt drama-tinged anthem is “best thing for me” by Samaria, which brings the tempo even further down. It’s a great mix of a traditional smooth R&B swing with soaring guitars, a high-pitched vocal display with plenty of personality, and whimsical chimes.

Last but not least, Ariana Grande is officially and finally back with her ’80s and dance-inspired single, “yes, and?” After resolving some relationship drama in 2023, we can’t wait to see what the pop darling brings this year. Let us know in the comments what your favorite R&B Season pick was this week– and what else we missed, too. Eric Bellinger & Kyle Dion Carry Our “R&B Season” Playlist Updates Into 2024: Stream

Welcome to our first R&B Season playlist update of 2024, which is understandably one of the slower ones we’ll probably do this year. Moreover, there wasn’t a ton of activity in the mainstream this week when it comes to more soulful releases to kick off this next set of 365 days. Still, that wasn’t really the case for strictly hip-hop artists this week. For example, Hit-Boy linked up his father Big Hit with The Game and produced their surprise collaborative mixtape, Paisley Dreams. While we only have two new tracks to highlight for this check-in, they are so quality that it feels like they aimed to compete among a stacked release schedule.

The first addition on our inaugural R&B Season playlist update for 2024 is the single “La Perla” [The Pearl] by Eric Bellinger, B HAM, and Corey Cooper. It’s a bright, sensual, breezy, and vocally passionate cut about lusting for a potential partner with as much commitment as possible. The “BNB” singer puts together a pretty steady progression with sharp drums, cloudy synth pads, and smooth harmonies. It’s by no means the most re-inventive cut on the market, but it’s an energizing and engaging way to start your soulful musical intake this year.

In a more acoustic direction, our other R&B Season pick is “Hang Me Out to Dry” by Kyle Dion. This song is led by crisp guitar chords and embellishments, which match very nicely against the light percussive pattern, more harmonic displays, and synth and key licks and chords. Not only that, but the Sassy creative shows off his high register while retaining a lot of power and heft behind his voice, which is a tough balance to accomplish. It’s still pretty cold in many parts of the world, but don’t let that stop you from throwing this sunny song on.

Meanwhile, other rap highlights from this week include Erick The Architect’s excellent jazz-funk-rap jam with the one and only George Clinton, “Ezekiel’s Wheel.” If you want to check out more standouts from how MCs kicked off 2024, check out our Fire Emoji playlist with the link below. Wizkid Wows On Our New “R&B Season” Playlist Update: Stream

We’re pretty deep into the holiday season, and as you may have noticed, the new music release schedule is looking quite scant these days. Rather than promote new work or perform, artists would rather relax with their loved ones, take a nice break, and allow people to do the same without missing out on any big drops. Still, there are a couple of new songs and projects to sink your teeth into that we couldn’t help but shout out. On this new R&B Season update, we took a look at the few but fulfilling releases within and adjacent to the genre this week. Turns out that even amid a slower season, there are always plenty of gems to find in the music world.

Leading the way this season is Wizkid’s new four-track EP, S2, which is another helping of his Afrobeat waviness. Moreover, there are two specific cuts from this brief collection that were particularly refreshing and enjoyable for (hopefully) your days off. One is the Zlatan-assisted “IDK,” which brings some crisp percussion, well-contrasted vocal performances, and gorgeous backing harmonies to compliment the melodies. The other, “Ololufe” with Wande Coal, is more of a dancehall-inspired cut with more club flair, watery synthesizers, and shuffling beats to vibe out to.

Next on R&B Season is the new single from SAFE: the sultry, slow-burning, and infectiously atmospheric “ttuctmd.” This is a track that fits much more snugly into these wintery months with its restrained vocals, woozy synthesizers, and minimal production. However, there’s a Jersey club flip at one point that injects the song with some brief revitalizing energy before slipping right back into its cloudy soundscape. Given how subtly the Toronto artist was able to switch between these appeals, we can’t wait to see what else he does to develop this skill.

Finally, we want to highlight the new song from Nic Dean, as “Withdrawal” is a similarly hazy but much more dramatic offering. With cavernous drums and wailing synth pads, it’s a fitting single to lose yourself in and become fully immersed in its emotional pallet. Let us know what your favorite release of these was in the comments down below– and what else we missed this week, too. Check our R&B Season playlist out above and, as always, come back to HNHH for more great music releases around the clock.
