The Weeknd And Swedish House Mafia Seemingly Confirm A Collaboration After A Hint At The VMAs

Last night’s VMAs yielded a bunch of headlines, but one story that flew perhaps a little under the radar is what appears to be an upcoming collaboration between The Weeknd and Swedish House Mafia.

The latter group had some time on stage during last night’s proceedings, and at the end of their performance, The Weeknd’s voice singing “like a moth to a flame” is audible as the text “to be continued” was displayed on stage.

Sure enough, after the performance, both The Weeknd and Swedish House Mafia shared the same teaser clip on social media and tagged each other in their posts, essentially confirming that the pair have some sort of collaborative endeavor on the way.

Beyond that, neither artist has offered any more info about what’s going on here.

This comes after a long time away from Swedish House Mafia, as the group previously broke up but is now reunited. Their most recent album is 2012’s Until Now. As for The Weeknd, he’s apparently in the home stretch of making his new album, as he recently said, “I’m finishing the new album right now. It should be done by the end of this month and we’re just kind of figuring out when to put it out. It’s been really cool because I’m working on this album this summer simultaneously with the writer’s room for the new TV show. So, I’ve been kind of going back and forth from finishing the album and pending up the show that we’re going to start shooting soon. It’s been quite a summer.”

Rihanna Details ‘Savage X Fenty Vol. 3,’ Featuring Performances From Normani, Daddy Yankee, And More

Rihanna recently announced the third edition of her Savage X Fenty show, coming to Amazon Prime Video on September 24. Now she has offered more info about it, noting that it will feature performances from Nas, Daddy Yankee, BIA, Jazmine Sullivan, Ricky Martin, Normani, and Jade Novah.

Announcing the news with a teaser on her socials, Rihanna also shared a star-studded lineup of special guests: Adriana Lima, Aleali May, Alek Wek, Alva Claire, Behati Prinsloo, Bella Poarch, Eartheater, Emily Ratajkowski, Erykah Badu, Gigi Hadid, Gottmik, Irina Shayk, Jeremy Pope, Joan Smalls, Jojo T. Gibbs, Leiomy, Lola Leon, Lucky Blue Smith, Lauren Wasser, Mena Massoud, Nyjah Huston, Precious Lee, Princess Gollum, Raisa Flowers, Sabrina Carpenter, Soo Joo Park, The Symone, Thuso Mbedu, Troye Sivan, Vanessa Hudgens, and many more.

According to a press release, the Savage X Fenty Show Vol. 3 “will combine fashion, dance, music, and iconic architecture, highlighting the newest assortment of Savage X Fenty styles through subtle-yet-impactful scenic elements, lighting, and filming techniques.” Check out the teaser above.

The first Savage X Fenty show memorably took place in 2019 and was shot in front of a live audience at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. The second, titled Vol. 2, was filmed over a few days in September 2020 in an empty Los Angeles Convention Center. “Being in lockdown, all you have is really yourself — your mind, your own thoughts, your imagination — and it forces a lot of creative out of a lot of people,” Rih told The New York Times last year about prepping a pandemic fashion show. “You come up with incredible material because you’re forced to be with yourself.”

Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty Show Vol. 3 streams on Amazon Prime Video 9/24.

Justin Bieber Returns To The MTV VMAs To Perform ‘Stay’ With The Kid Laroi And ‘Ghost’

The Kid Laroi and Justin Bieber delivered one of the year’s biggest hit songs with their second overall collaboration, “Stay.” The track is one that appeared on a recent deluxe reissue of Laroi’s F*ck Love project, one that recently topped the Billboard album charts. As for “Stay,” the track itself as also found success on the charts as it spent four consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. With these achievements, it’s only right that the singers brought the song to the 2021 MTV VMAs stage and that’s exactly what they did on Sunday night.

Laroi and Bieber delivered what appeared to be a space-themed performance for their No. 1 song as they stood atop a larger makeshift boulder that stood in front of a bright backdrop filled with neon colors. In addition to “Stay,” Bieber would take control of the stage to perform “Ghost” from his sixth album Justice. The project spent two non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the albums chart and “Ghost” is looking to be the singer’s next popular cut from the album.

When Laroi’s “Stay” reached No. 1 on the singles chart, it became the first song by an Australian-born solo male artist to top the Hot 100 in 40 years, following Rick Springfield’s “Jessie’s Girl.” He’s also the first Australian-born artist to reach No. 1 with a song since Sia did it with her and Sean Paul’s “Cheap Thrills” back in 2016. As for Bieber, he recently announced his Our World documentary which will recount his “intense and exciting” return to music.

You can watch Bieber and Laroi’s performance in the video above.

Ed Sheeran Helps Celebrate The New NFL Season With A Performance Of ‘Shivers’

A fairly large group of sports fans all over the world are rejoicing as the NFL made its official return on Thursday night. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the league’s reigning Super Bowl champions, welcomed the Dallas Cowboys to their home stadium to officially start the new season. Prior to kickoff, however, fans at home and outside of Tampa Bay’s Raymond James Stadium were greeted by a performance from Ed Sheeran. The singer took the stage to perform his latest single, “Shivers” for fans that gathered at the venue.

The performance came hours after Sheeran released the track to his supporters. “Shivers” stands as the third single from his upcoming album, joining “Visiting Hours” and “Bad Habits” as records that gave fans a taste of what’s to come with the new album. After announcing “=” last month, Sheeran spoke about the album and what it means to him.

= (Equals) is a really personal record and one that means a lot to me,” he said. “My life changed greatly over the past few years — I got married, became a father, experienced loss, and I reflect on these topics over the course of the album. I see it as my coming-of-age record, and I can’t wait to share this next chapter with you.”

You can watch Sheeran perform “Shivers” in the video above.

= is out 10/29 via Asylum/Atlantic. Pre-order it here.

Ariana Grande And Kid Cudi Cozy Up In The First Look At The Movie ‘Don’t Look Up’

Today saw Netflix share the first teaser of the upcoming movie Don’t Look Up, which has a stacked cast and follows two astronomers trying to warn the world of impending doom. Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardi DiCaprio play the lead roles, and also getting some screen time are Ariana Grande and Kid Cudi, whose appearances are previewed in the teaser.

Both of their appearances in the clip are super brief: A photo of Cudi’s character is displayed on screen during a broadcast of an in-movie show called The Daily Rip, while we get just a quick shot of Grande shifting her focus from one thing to another. There’s not much to go on there, but we can determine that Cudi and Grande’s characters appear to have some level of familiarity with each other: EW shared some photos from the film today, and in one of them, Cudi and Grande snuggle up together, smiling with drinks in hand.

It’s not too surprising to see Grande and Cudi here, as they’re two of music’s most experienced actors: Grande’s first brush with fame was her role in the Nickelodeon show Victorious and its spin-off series Sam & Cat, while Cudi had starring roles in How to Make It In America and Comedy Bang! Bang!.

Aside from the aforementioned, the movie also stars Jonah Hill, Meryl Streep, Mark Rylance, Tyler Perry, Matthew Perry, Timothée Chalamet, Ron Perlman, and Cate Blanchett.
