Jadakiss Says He Still Gets Anxious About Performing

Jadakiss is opening up in interviews recently, talking about what it’s like to get up on stage after 30 years. On Hot 97‘s GOAT Talk with DJ Enuff last Wednesday, the rapper admitted to suffering from anxiety before any live performance, despite the number of shows he’s done in his career. “Facts. Every show, there’s some butterflies before you gotta go out there,” he said to DJ Enuff. This nervousness is unbiased on which stage, what the show’s caliber is, or which city Jada is touring.

DJ Enuff replied that this was a testament to how much he cares about rap, to which Jadakiss agreed. Even though this is how he feels internally every time he’s up there, he performs like it’s his last show. The dedication to his craft is what keeps Jada going. That, and the love he has for the up-and-comers entering the rap industry. (Unless they’re trying to get fights started… then he doesn’t enjoy the pageantry.)

Jadakiss’ Butterflies & The Young Guns

Jadakiss knows other young rappers must feel similarly. He recently gave some props to Bay Area rapper Symba for his lyrical range and current hot streak. The two performers embraced backstage at a 2023 BET Awards event this past weekend. Video of the encounter went viral, with Jada talking Symba up over and over. Cultural icons like LeBron James and Busta Rhymes commented on the social media post, showering praise for both the old guard and the young bucks of rap.

Jadakiss is doing plenty of talk show appearances these days, giving his take on everything from rap beef to industry history. Celebrating over 31 years of musical prominence, the Yonkers, NY, native is getting introspective while still pushing himself to perform. And we can all relate to Jada; going in front of a mass of people and being vulnerable is uncomfortable. He had the gumption to do it all these years. For that, we are truly grateful. Stay tuned to HNHH for more news from the music world.

For the performance, Leray rapped her hit song, “Players,” which she remixed with Busta, earlier this year. They included MOP’s “Ante Up” and A Tribe Called Quest’s “Scenario” remixes as well as Chris Brown’s “Look At Me Now,” and more.

When Busta Rhymes accepted the Lifetime Achievement Award, he broke down into tears. “All right. So, I’m going to wear it on my sleeve. I do want to cry,” Rhymes began before taking a long moment to let his emotions loose. He continued: “I’m going to say I am grateful that the blessing that has been bestowed upon me and this gift that I have been given and this fire that continues to burn as a passion in my soul, that allows me to get into any situation — from the stage to collabing with whoever — and making sure that I am far from the weak link. Because I enjoy walking away from a situation saying, ‘I bust ass!’”

Ice Spice Caught Looking At Her Phone During BET Awards: Fans Debate

It’s no secret that 2023 has been a pretty big year for Ice Spice so far. She released her breakthrough EP back in January which propelled her into the rap mainstream. Since then she’s collaborated with artists like Nicki Minaj, Pinkpantheress, and even Taylor Swift racking up numerous top 10 hits along the way. She and Nicki Minaj just released their second collaboration “Barbie World.” The song is set to appear on the soundtrack to Greta Gerwig’s upcoming new Barbie movie.

But not everyone is happy with Ice Spice. During last night’s BET awards someone caught the “In Ha Mood” singer on her phone in the audience during one of the performances. Rap veterans Sugar Hill Gang, MC Lyte, and Big Daddy Kane were performing together while Ice Spice was busy with something on her phone. This sparked heated debate among fans on Twitter about her actions. Many fans stood up for her. They cited her age as a reason why she wouldn’t care about the older performers and many agreed they were doing the same thing from home. A number of other users showed up to call her actions disrespectful. Others just claimed that the entire discussion is not that deep.

Ice Spice On Her Phone

Another BET controversy popped up after Ice Spice posted a photo dump to her Instagram this morning. One of the pictures shows the rapper alongside Lil Uzi Vert. She’s been tied to the “Just Wanna Rock” rapper recently after they shouted her out in a song. The association allegedly caused Uzi’s partner to throw a phone and Ice Spice last night and fans are left trying to put everything together. She also had a pretty major performance during the award show. She pulled out some of her biggest hits like “Munch” and “Princess Diana” during her show-stealing moment last night.

Ice Spice is also hitting the road later this year. She and Doechii are serving as the openers on Doja Cat’s upcoming Scarlet Tour from October to December. What do you think of Ice Spice ignoring one of the performances at the BET Awards last night? Let us know in the comment section below.

Playboi Carti Chased By Fans After Summer Smash Set

Playboi Carti is one of the biggest artists in the entire world at this point. Overall, he is someone who is absolutely adored by his fans. Although his music may not be for everyone, there is certainly a massive contingent who love everything he does. Not to mention, Whole Lotta Red is considered to be a classic by many. Its fusion of rap and punk is extremely unique. So much so that Carti even has a guitarist at all of his performances, and it completely enhances the sound of the music.

Yesterday, during the BET Awards, Playboi Carti was in Illinois instead, where he got to be part of Summer Smash 2023. This is the biggest hip-hop festival in the Mid-West. Lil Uzi Vert had performed there this weekend as well, and Carti got to cap off the entire weekend. Overall, Carti’s performance was truly incredible. He played some of his biggest hits, and the fans were feeling every single second of the set. As it turns out, the fans were looking to turn up well after the show, as showcased by the clip below.

Playboi Carti Fans Are Different

According to Our Generation Music, the video above showcases Carti fans taking to the streets so that they could chase him down after the show. Playboi Carti was clearly aware of the fans as he got up on his seat in the car and allowed himself to tower through the sunroof of the vehicle. Of course, Carti is around 6’3″ so it is easy for him to pull off something like this. Either way, this just goes to show how much of a legend Carti is and how fans love seeing him wherever they can.

As for some new music, it may be a while before Carti delivers a new project. Although he is constantly teasing something new, we have yet to actually get anything. In December, it will be three years since Whole Lotta Red dropped. Needless to say, fans are looking forward to getting something new. Stay tuned to HNHH for more news from around the music world.

Her career first took off back in August 2022, following the release of her breakthrough single, “Munch (Feelin’ U).” In the months since, she’s collaborated with Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj, while releasing several more hits. She recently discussed what it’s been like reaching this level of fame with Teen Vogue. Ice Spice revealed that remaining humble is what makes her most proud.

“I’m most proud of staying grounded so far because I’ve already been through so many things that I know a lot of people would’ve lost their f*cking minds,” she explained. “The whole lifestyle change is super drastic, especially coming from where I come from, not coming from sht and not having a lot growing up, to now — it’s the complete opposite…. Even though it’s a positive change, it’s still a change.”

Akon Crowd Surfs In A Giant Plastic Bubble

A new clip of Akon rolling over a crowd of his fans has hit the internet. In the clip, Akon is seen descending from the stage on top of security guards before his bubble is passed on to the audience. Some social media users clowned the artist for the clumsy-looking display, however, others noted that the bubble could actually be a smart idea. The Shade Room shared the clip today, and viewers raced to the comments section to share their thoughts.

“Crowd-surfing in a clear balloon at a hot summer festival, while wearing a sweater and ski pants is WILD,” one viewer writes. Another user claims that the singer appears to be in “a hamster ball.” “He don’t got a single song where he need to be doing this,” someone else in the comments jokes. Other took the opportunity to bring up controversial comments Akon has made in the past.

Akon Rolls Over His Fans

At the end of last year, the singer received a great deal of backlash for comparing Black Americans and African performers. He claimed at the time that Americans are typically “wobbling, pants hanging half down, bored as hell, half asleep ‘cause they high as hell on stage. But [in] Africa, we wake up in the morning, like look at these YouTube clips of all these kids from Uganda. Like these kids are performers. So for us, it comes natural.”

Van Lathan even chimed in on the controversial comments. “First off, Akon has been on his clown sh*t for years now but that’s another topic,” he began. “When you single out Black Americans for criticism, the ones who have culturally empowered the entire diaspora,” he continued, “you’re sh*tting an entire experience I feel connected to by birthright.” Lathan then called out Akon for “cosplaying like brothers from Atlanta or Miami” throughout his career, making a ton of money off of the same people he criticized.

Central Cee Gets Praise For Performing At Glastonbury Without A Backing Track

Central Cee has been receiving a great deal of praise as of late for his recent performance at Glastonbury. The British rapper took on the music festival this weekend alongside other artists like Lizzo, Lil Nas X, and many more. He also notably performed without a backing track, something social media users have expressed their appreciation for.

Central Cee’s performance in Somerset County, England got users talking. “[Central Cee’s] Glastonbury set went hardddd too good,” a Twitter user writes. He opened the show with “Khabib,” a track from his sophomore mixtape released in 2022, 23. The artist then went on to perform several fan-favorites, including “LET GO,” “Overseas,” “Obsessed With You,” and more. He also brought out his fellow UK rapper Dave to perform their new song “Sprinter.” A fan notes the “unmatched levels of talent and energy on that stage,” in a comment on UK Rap Daily‘s shared clip of the artists’ performance. Social media users had previously speculated that Dave may make an appearance. They were ecstatic to see him finally joining Central Cee onstage to perform the single.

Central Cee Gets His Flowers

The beginning of the set paid tribute to the artist’s late friend FDot, who was also a rapper. He passed away in January of this year after being stabbed only blocks from his West London home at the age of 23. Central Cee closed his Glastonbury set with his 2022 song “Doja,” which samples Eve and Gwen Stefani’s “Let Me Blow Ya Mind.” The track famously references Doja Cat, and was joined by an accompanying music video directed by Lyrical Lemonade’s Cole Bennett.

Fans also noted the fact that he was joined onstage with a baby at one point in the show. He held the child throughout most of his performance of “Sprinter” with Dave, later letting the child down to stand on the stage. “Central Cee babysitting at Glastonbury is too funny,” one fan wrote alongside laughing emojis, “the kid was on stage confused.”
