Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” Receives Jaw-Dropping Arrangement From Georgia Mass Band: Watch

The Georgia Mass Band performed Kendrick Lamar’s viral diss track, “Not Like Us,” in a clip circulating on social media, this week. The move comes as the song continues to break Spotify records, having now reached 300 million streams in just over a month. Lamar is currently on pace for the biggest streaming year of his career.

Fans on social media had mixed responses to the performance. “Bro, this sh*t finna last a whole year, the summer is just getting started,” one user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote. Another joked: “Wait until Southern and Grambling get a hold of it.. lol.” Other users brought up the fact that Joe Budden foreshadowed this happening on his podcast. “GEORGIA @iamstillpunch @DJHed @ElliottWilson @JoeBudden said this on his @JoeBuddenPod (You better be glad it’s not HBCU season NOW,” one user wrote. “They practicing for this Fall‼ @oldmanebro @dangerookipawaa #NotLikeUs @Akademiks.”

As for Budden’s comments, he reacted to the song initially by joking: “You better thank your heavens up above that it isn’t HBCU season! You better thank God.” Lamar kicked off the feud with Drake back in March by teaming up with Future and Metro Boomin for the song, “Like That.” He and the Toronto rapper fired off several diss tracks aimed at one another in the ensuing months. Drake has since scrubbed his Instagram of all his posts related to the beef, although fans think his latest upload features some shade toward Lamar. Check out the clip of Georgia Mass Band’s performance of “Not Like Us” below.

Metro Boomin To Be Accompanied By Live Orchestra At LA Show

It was recently announced that Metro Boomin will take the stage at the Dolby Theatre in LA next month. The award-winning producer will also be joined by the Symphonic Orchestra and their conductor, Anthony Parnther. The show is part of Red Bull Symphonic, and Metro Boomin’s the second artist to take part in the project. The performance is scheduled for October 26, 2023 and tickets go on sale this Friday (September 15).

“I’m very excited to be part of such an amazing music moment with Red Bull,” Metro Boomin explains. “I have a deep love and appreciation for orchestral music, which can be heard in many of the records I’ve produced. Now, with Red Bull Symphonic, we’re able to reimagine a whole body of work that I’m proud of in a live show with the talent of the Symphonic Orchestra, which has always been a dream of mine that I’m finally seeing come to life.”

In 2022, Rick Ross was joined by Orchestra Noir and Jason Ikeem Rodgers in Atlanta. The event intended to “[pay] homage to the heritage of hip-hop and the excellence of Black musicianship in the city of Atlanta.” In March of this year, the performer also dropped a 23-minute documentary about the event. “I really want [the audience] to take away the appreciation for the orchestra, Orchestra Noir,” he says in the documentary. “This isn’t something that happens a lot,” Rick Ross also added. “This is something different; rap artists collaborating with a full top-shelf orchestra. In 20 years from now, [the event] is something etched in stone, ‘It was dope.’”

Recently, Metro Boomin also performed at the 2023 MTV VMAs, reportedly hinting at his upcoming collaboration with Future. He also paid homage to his late mother, who tragically passed in 2022 as a result of an alleged murder-suicide. She announced the EP’s tracklist earlier this month, revealing collaborations with Solange, Childish Gambino, Steve Lacy, and more. Love this sound sm,” one user wrote. “[This] is what I didn’t know I needed,” another added. Other users weren’t fans of the Badu-inspired EP. I do appreciate the Erykah Badu inspo and shit… But we need Summer Walker, not Summer Badu.” A fan Tweeted in the artist’s defense, “summer walker just gave us a good erykah badu type— cleaning the house on a beautiful sunday, while burning a nice finely scented incense type of EP, and y’all are complaining?? the music is a vibe… it just might not be for some of y’all.”
