Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” Drake Diss Leave DJ Akademiks & Joe Budden Impressed

The hip-hop world is reacting wildly and quickly to Kendrick Lamar’s latest Drake diss, the Mustard-produced West Coast banger “Not Like Us.” While the jury’s still out on who officially won, the Toronto superstar sure has a lot of pressure and things to answer for, as does his Compton counterpart. No one will forget or avoid predator, domestic violence, deadbeat, or false paternity allegations forever. With this context in mind, Everyday Struggle saw a reunion recently, as DJ Akademiks invited Joe Budden to speak over the phone during his stream and discuss this new song. Their thoughts may surprise you, but the overall verdict is an impressed one.

“Does that matter, though?” DJ Akademiks asked Joe Budden about the claims that Kendrick Lamar and Drake have launched at each other. Budden proposed that both being right about “tea” and speaking on it openly and confidently are important metrics to judge this by. Ak added that Kendrick was able to match Drake on the “club record” front, and both commentators had high praise for each MC’s tactics and playmaking. The streamer asked if this was a specific advantage for the West Coast, and the podcaster thinks that’s a valid claim that helps Mr. Morale’s case on the cultural front.

DJ Akademiks & Joe Budden Discuss “Not Like Us”

Then, DJ Akademiks and Joe Budden discussed whether even responding to Kendrick Lamar’s predator allegations would be a good move for Drake. They conceded that K.Dot has an advantage in that regard, especially since Drizzy said that he would take a vacation. “The best thing for Drake to do is find an out,” Budden remarked, but “going on vacation” would be admitting defeat and puts Kendrick in a position to bomb him as much as he wants. Still, they also acknowledged that the OVO mogul is too big of an artist with too big of a fanbase to really fall off completely.

Also, DJ Akademiks and Joe Budden theorized as to whether Drake emptied his full clip, but thought that maybe targeting the other rappers on the sidelines in this feud indicates otherwise. Budden even said that he’s happy with how this beef is now and would be satisfied if it’s over, which surprised Ak. With both MCs garnering more takes from the culture and their fanbases, it’s still not a lost battle. But the dynamics for this war and the angles these artists are playing from seem different with every round, so we’ll see what happens.

Kendrick Lamar Accuses Drake Of Being ‘Not Like Us’ On His Latest Diss Track

The very public beef between Kendrick Lamar and Drake is far from over. Last night (May 3), Drake dropped “Family Matters,” a response to Lamar’s diss track “6:16 In LA,” which he released earlier in the day. Within less than an hour, Lamar responded to “Family Matters” with “Meet The Grahams,” on which, Lamar accused Drake of fathering and hiding a daughter from the world.

Drake has yet to respond to “Meet The Grahams,” however, Lamar has since shared another diss track — “Not Like Us.”

Produced by Mustard, “Not Like Us” is equally scathing lyrically, as much as it is a certified dance-ready West Coast banger. On the track, Lamar calls Drake out, implying inappropriate behavior with young girls.

“Why he trollin’ like a b*tch? Ain’t you tired? / Tryna strike a chord and it’s probably A-Minor,” raps Lamar.

He also calls out his use of AI technology to imitate Tupac’s voice, and warns him not to show his face within the West Coast.

“You think the bay gon’ let you disrespect ‘Pac? / I think that Oakland show bout to be your last stop.”

Closing out the track, Lamar calls the OVO founder an “OV-Hoe,” and encourages the listener to chant it back.

Kendrick Lamar Calls Drake A “Certified Pedophile” On DJ Mustard-Produced Diss Track “Not Like Us”

Before Drake could even respond to Friday night’s “Meet The Grahams,” Kendrick Lamar has already fired off another diss track aimed at the Toronto rapper. This time, he shared “Not Like Us” on social media, making reference to Baka Not Nice’s past legal trouble while also repeatedly accusing Drake of being a “pedophile.” “Say Drake, I hear you like ’em young / You better not ever go to cell block one,” he raps towards the start of the song.

When Lamar shared the track on Twitter, fans were loving the drama. “We’re witnessing one of the best rap beefs of all time,” one user replied. Another wrote: “This is real hatred, folks. For generations, all haters will be compared to this moment.”

Lamar first dissed Drake on Metro Boomin and Future’s “Like That,” earlier this year. In the time since, they’ve traded several songs aimed at one another. The drama reached a new level on Friday night after Drake dropped “Family Matters.” In the song, he accused Lamar of being abusive towards his fiance. He also dissed several other artists who have been beefing with him including The Weeknd, Rick Ross, and more. Within an hour, Lamar fired back with “Meet The Grahams.” On that track, he speaks directly to several members of Drake’s family while accusing him of hiding another child. “I’m sorry that your father not active inside your world / He don’t commit to much but his music, yeah, that’s for sure,” Lamar raps.
