Kendrick Lamar & Tam’s Burgers: How ‘Not Like Us’ Boosted A Longtime Relationship

Kendrick Lamar‘s “Not Like Us” video may have ruined Drake’s holiday, but according to TMZ, it certainly helped boost the local economy in Kendrick’s hometown. Tam’s, the greasy spoon takeout restaurant that features prominently in the video — and in Kendrick’s life and music — reported a boost in sales at its Rosecrans location in Compton (there are several other Tam’s restaurants dotted throughout LA County) picked up by 30 to 40 percent, with a large influx of tourist interest in the location.

(This is all well and good, thank you for your support, but speaking as a local… please do not get y’all selves in trouble trying to play tourist. For one thing, you’re missing the point of the song.)

So, what is Tam’s, and how has it played a role in Kendrick Lamar’s art and life?

The first Tam’s was opened in 1971, selling not just burgers and fries, but also Mexican staples like tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and the like. Kendrick’s Tam’s is located at the corner of Rosecrans and Central (mine was on Alameda between Rosecrans and Compton) and K Dot has mentioned it in songs like “Element,” where he raps, “I be hangin’ out at Tam’s, I be on Stockton.”

In a 2012 interview with Nardwaur, Kendrick says his order at Tam’s is chili cheese fries, although TMZ notes he also orders the bacon cheeseburger:

Kendrick also mentioned Tam’s in a 2012 interview with Complex, where he compared it to the more well-known West Coast staple In-N-Out: “Everybody loves In-N-Out, but it’s a very clean-cut burger,” he said. “Tam’s is street-sloppy, burgers and shakes. It’s a chain, but it’s still hood.”

Kendrick Lamar Gives Tam’s Burgers A Huge Sales Boost Through “Not Like Us” Video

The whole city of Los Angeles is riding behind the strength of the Kendrick Lamar “Not Like Us” music video, and a rising tide lifts all boats. Moreover, per TMZ, the Tam’s Burgers restaurant that K.Dot and Mustard pull up to in Compton is seeing a massive increase in sales following its appearance in the music video. Lauro Hernandez, the manager of the Rosecrans Ave location, and his son Bryan Noe reportedly told the outlet that tourists and locals have come in droves and got sales up by 30 to 40 percent since the video dropped. Hernandez spoke of knowing Kendrick for years (he’s shouted Tam’s out before on songs like “ELEMENT”) and still marveling at how connected he is to his community.

In addition, Tam’s Burgers’ Compton manager said that he didn’t charge Kendrick Lamar for the visit or music video inclusion, but agreed to have the Tam’s logo in the visuals. The Dave Free-co-directed treatment for “Not Like Us” has over 37 million views at press time, so it’s likely that Tam’s will continue to have some great kickback from the homage. Seeing this view count skyrocket was an unsurprising feat, but still a pretty impressive one. However, what’s most astonishing is just how clean and striking much of the video is.

Also, we already knew that Kendrick Lamar could cook up some beef angles to make a restaurant pop. On one of his other Drake disses, “Euphoria,” his mention of the New Ho King restaurant in Toronto also caused a huge surge of customers for the location. In fact, the eatery even introduced a special meal that comprises of Kendrick’s exact order in the track. We even saw Drizzy himself seemingly pull up to it recently: one of his many bitter but still funny IG trolls against his Compton rival post-battle.

Meanwhile, with Spotify reportedly denying botting allegations for “Not Like Us,” Kendrick Lamar’s track clearly resonated with a massive number of people. It’s amazing to see that the song didn’t inspire folks to buy owl piñatas in droves, but rather that it drew them to Los Angeles’ great food, culture, and history. We’ll see what other successes result from this music video and rollout, and whether there’s even more to come. It does seem like the perfect time to start an album cycle…

Kendrick Lamar “Not Like Us” Botting Allegations Denied By Spotify

Kendrick Lamar has one of the biggest hits in the entire world right now with “Not Like Us.” Overall, the song is everywhere and it is pretty hard to escape. However, some are fatigued by it while others were simply never amused. That said, the vast majority of hip-hop fans love the song and have been bumping it since its release on May 4th. At this stage, there is no denying just how catchy the song is, and its various Spotify records showcase what a huge hit this really is.

Interestingly enough, some have been questioning the validity of these Spotify streams. DJ Akademiks has been the main internet personality bringing these questions to light. There is this narrative that Kendrick Lamar and Spotify were in cahoots to bot streams to make the song appear bigger than it actually is. While many brushed these allegations off as ridiculous, others took them very seriously. Well, it appears as though DJ Akademiks sought to get to the bottom of things.

Kendrick Lamar Scored A Huge Hit

In the clip above, you can see that Akademiks fessed up to talking to his connect at Spotify, directly. During their conversation, the connection claimed that Spotify was not botting streams and that they never would. “I talked to my man from Spotify. […] Them Kendrick streams is real,” Ak said simply. For those who already believed Kendrick was botting streams, this probably won’t move the needle. However, for many others, this is all they needed to hear.

Let us know what you think about this response from Spotify, in the comments section down below. Do you believe that this is the last we will hear about the botting allegations? What did you make of Akademiks bringing up these allegations, in the first place? Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the music world. Serena Williams Calls “Not Like Us” the ‘Hit of the Summer’

serena will

Has the song of the summer debate ever been wrapped up this early? Kendrick Lamar is running a victory lap with “Not Like Us,” and Compton’s own Serena Williams, who was previously romantically linked to Drake, is enjoying it.

Appearing at the ESSENCE Festival, Williams revealed that “Not Like Us” is her jam.

“I love that song. It’s like the hit of the summer. When they play that jam, I’m jamming,” said Williams. “That jam is jamming.”

And that jam gives a shout-out to Williams.

Serena Williams Gets Back At Drake With Some Kendrick Lamar “Not Like Us” Praise

Serena Williams knows what it takes to be great, and she sees just how special “Not Like Us” is. According to AllHipHop, the tennis icon had a panel at the recent ESSENCE Festival in New Orleans. She was there to speak on the diversity of beauty, as well as to promote her Wyn makeup line. However, that was not the only topic discussed. With the Drake and Kendrick Lamar beef being so widely spread, it was no surprise that she was asked about it in one way or another. While she did not speak on the rapper’s disdain for each other, Serena Williams did gush about “Not Like Us”.

“I love that song. It’s like the hit of the summer. When they play that jam, I’m jamming. That jam is jamming”, Williams gleefully said. Perhaps a small sliver of that praise comes from the fact that Kendrick warns Drake about talking sideways about the world-famous athlete. If you can recall, her and the latter were linked romantically speaking around 2015.

However, things never solidified long term for the would-be megastar couple. Drake made sure to remind Serena who she was married to on the Her Loss cut “Middle of the Ocean”, but in a not so glowing manner. “Sidebar, Serena, your husband a groupie“. That led to Lamar clapping back on “Not Like Us”, saying, “From Alondra down to Central, n**** better not speak on Serena“. For those wondering, the now entrepreneur’s husband is Alexis Ohanian, who is also in the same field and is a co-founder of Reddit. He also addressed Drake’s in hilarious and boss-like way. “The reason I stay winning is because I’m relentless about being the absolute best at whatever I do — including being the best groupie for my wife & daughter”, Ohanian said on X.

What are your thoughts on Serena Williams naming “Not Like Us” the song of the summer? Do you think there is partial love for the song because Kendrick calls out Drake, why or why not? Do you agree with the tennis icon’s take, why or why not? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Kendrick Lamar and Drake. Finally, stay with us for everything else going on in the music world.

Busta Rhymes Previews Remix Of Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” At Essence Festival

Over the weekend, Busta Rhymes took the stage at the 2024 Essence Festival in New Orleans, where he dropped a major hint at what could be to come. As he finished up his set and prepared to walk offstage, he urged his DJ to play an apparent remix of Kendrick Lamar’s hit diss track “Not Like Us.” Busta Rhymes laid down some bars of his own on the reimagined version, and unsurprisingly, the crowd went wild.

The fun moment left listeners eager to hear more of the remix, though it’s unclear whether or not he plans to release it. Either way, they’re glad to see Busta get in on Kendrick and Drake’s lyrical battle, which has been one of the most talked about feuds of the year.

Busta Rhymes Gives His Fans An Exciting Surprise At The 2024 Essence Festival

While Busta Rhymes certainly appeared to be in good spirits upon hearing fans’ reactions to his apparent “Not Like Us” remix, he did express disappointment with the audience at another point in the show. Apparently, he spotted some attendees sitting down and filming on their phones, which he was not at all pleased with. He went off as a result, and the clip quickly began circulating online. “A-yo, f**k them camera phones, too. Let’s get back to interacting like humans. Put them weird-a** devices down,” he yelled. “I ain’t from that era. Them s**ts don’t control the soul. F**k your phone.”

The tense moment prompted a debate among social media users. While most think he had a good point, some accused him of going overboard, and inaccurately gauging his fans’ stamina. What do you think of Busta Rhymes previewing a possible “Not Like Us” remix during his recent performance at the 2024 Essence Festival in New Orleans? Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Not Like Us’ Video Has Forced The LA Public Library To ‘Retire’ One Of Its Beloved Children’s Puppets

According to the “Not Like Us” opening disclaimer: “No Ovohoes were harmed during the making of the music video.” However, Kendrick Lamar vicious beating of an owl piñata (symbolic of Drake) in the visual has other entities hiding anything that resembles the animal.

Yesterday (July 5), the Los Angeles Public Library decided to retire its beloved owl puppet used for children’s programming. “Do we need to retire our owl puppet,” asked the page.

Whether the act was for the safety of the plushie or to show the library’s allegiance to hometown hero, Kendrick, the public showed just how tickled they were in the comment section of the TikTok video.

“Wow, the library was really the last safe space,” joked one user.

“The library said, ‘You think the Bay gon let you disrespect Pac, brother,’” penned another referencing a line in the track.

“I’m HOOTING at this. Perhaps, the owl can do some community service and earn their way back. Or be used in the Halloween display,” chimed another.

At this point, there is nothing Drake or his OVO Sound record label can do about the degradation of its logo. But it will be a while before fans are spotted sporting anything in the bird family.

Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” Video Skyrockets As LA Library Jokes About “Retiring” Owls

Kendrick Lamar struck gold with his “Not Like Us” music video, which continues to rack up millions of more views after its initial massive launch. For those curious, the visuals are currently sitting at around 24 and a half million views as of writing this article, and fans are still breaking it all down. But who know that K.Dot whacking an OVO owl piñata in the video, one of his many trolls against Drake, would even get the shushing librarians involved? Moreover, the Los Angeles Public Library recently joked on its TikTok page that they might retire their owl puppet mascot as a result.

Furthermore, this puppet was one that the library used for children’s programming, which makes the “Certified PDF-file” bar on “Not Like Us” sting even more. It’s all probably just a joke, as this owl was a part of the L.A. public library long before Kendrick Lamar and Drake started trading diss tracks. But as fans continue to theorize on what potential album hints there are in the music video, it broke records and captivated so much of the culture. It broke the record for the most views for a rap video within 24 hours this year, and we’re sure it stacks up to other viral visual treatments over the past few years, as well.

The Los Angeles Public Library (Cheekily) Stands With Kendrick Lamar

In addition to this, there were plenty of other details and jabs in the “Not Like Us” music video for fans to take note of. One of the main angles is that of Dave Free co-directing this with Kendrick Lamar, as the duo stands tall against Drake’s claims that there’s friction. Specifically, on tracks like “Family Matters” and “The Heart Part 6,” Drizzy claims that the Compton lyricist’s son with his partner is actually Free’s. Speaking of which…

“Not Like Us” Music Video Is Hitting Big

Whitney Alford and her kids with Kendrick Lamar also popped out to show Drake that perhaps his accusals of Kendrick are moot. Of course, we don’t really know what’s real or what’s not behind the scenes, but that’s true for all the attacks during the battle. We’ll see what other legs the “Not Like Us” video grows in its successful and astonishing path. What we’ll also see is whether or not more entities, particularly in Los Angeles, start looking at owls a little differently.
