Nicki Minaj’s ‘Pink Friday 2’ Debuts At No. 1 On ‘Billboard,’ Which Sets A New Record For Women In Rap Music

Nicki Minaj has found yet another accomplishment to add to her extensive career. Pink Friday 2, her latest, debuted at No. 1 on the music charts, both a significant moment for Nicki as well as a milestone for women in rap music.

With three chart-topping albums, including 2011’s Pink Friday, 2012’s Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, and Pink Friday 2, Nicki leads the pack for women with the most No. 1 rap albums. As for the metrics, Billboard clarified the total streams, pure sales, and vinyl purchases that pushed Pink Friday 2 atop the Billboard 200 chart.

According to Luminate, the first-week numbers (ending on December 14) for the album was 228,000 equivalent album units domestically. Based on this data, this marks the largest sales week for a rap album by a woman this year as well as this decade.

The streaming equivalent album units comprise 129,000 (or 169.87 million on-demand official streams). Total sales are 92,000, and the track equivalent album units are 7,000. Pink Friday 2 vinyl sales are credited at 25,000 copies, the largest week for a rap album by a woman since Luminate began electronically tracking sales in 1991.

Wwith Pink Friday 2, counted as Nicki’s third No. 1 album, she has overthrown Foxy Brown, whom she previously tied with at two chart-topping albums.

Nicki Minaj Goes No. 1 With “Pink Friday 2”

To absolutely no one’s surprised, Nicki Minaj’s new album Pink Friday 2 had a great first-week debut on the Billboard album charts. Moreover, according to new metrics from Chart Data, the project is set to sell 222K units in this timeframe, placing it at the No. 1 spot on the charts. She must be very happy with this outcome, regardless of whether or not she believes in the power of angel numbers. Other placements on this week’s album chart are also unsurprising: Taylor Swift (thrice in the top 10), Drake, Morgan Wallen, SZA, and so on. Congrats to the Trinidadian MC for closing out 2023 with another No. 1 hip-hop LP, one of the few we got this year.

Furthermore, she is showing no signs of slowing her roll down in the near future. In fact, Nicki Minaj recently teased a long-anticipated spectacle for her Barbz, one that’s been in the works for a while. But she kept things clear and optimistic when relaying that she’s still hard at work on her documentary. Considering the 41-year-old’s massively impactful career and her staggering trajectory, such a tale should be a compelling look into this success.

Nicki Minaj Cinches Third No. 1 Release With Pink Friday 2

On the other hand, she is also getting ready for her world tour in 2024, something that the Barbz have begged for incessantly for a long, long time. Finally, it seems like Nicki Minaj is ready to fully embrace the stage once again, fueled by this newfound wealth of material. Of course, we would expect her to run through her stacked catalog of hits too, but to see her in a new era is the most exciting of these prospects. If you’re thinking about buying a ticket, act fast; we’d only expect them to get tougher to purchase from here on out.

Meanwhile, what remains to be seen now is whether the “Let Me Calm Down” hitmaker landed a No. 1 song on the charts. With a couple of different smashes to choose from, it would be pretty interesting to see which one lands on top from all the tracks on Pink Friday 2, even if it doesn’t nab the highest placement. Let us know your predictions on that end in the comments section down below. Also, stay logged into HNHH for the latest news and updates on Nicki Minaj.

After a successful run nationwide. HeartRadio Jingle Ball 2023 reaches an end on Saturday, December 16, in Miami, at the Amerant Bank Arena in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The artists slated to end off the festival are Nicki Minaj, Marshmello, AJR, Flo Rida, Ludacris, LANY, David Kushner, Paul Russell, and Uproxx cover star Kaliii. With so many acts playing on the bill, concertgoers are no doubt curious about the estimated run time of the show.

What Time Does iHeartRadio Jingle Ball Miami Start?

On iHeartRadio’s website, the company listed the official start time for Jingle Ball Miami at 7:30 p.m. Unfortunately, the landing page does not outline the set times for each performer. Nicki Minaj and Marshmello will respectfully serve as the event’s co-headliners. During Nicki’s Atlanta appearance, she closed the show out. This could also be the case for Miami.

On Amerant Bank Arena’s event page, the venue recommends that ticketholders arrive at least 60 to 90 minutes before the promoted start time to ensure they are seated in time for the first performer. In other words plan to show up between 6pm and 6:30.

Next week, ABC has plans to air an edited version of several 2023 iHeartRadio Jingle Ball sets on Thursday, December 21, at 8 p.m. ET. Find more information here.

Saturday, December 16, marks the end of iHeartRadio’s annual Jingle Ball concert series. The show has made stops in Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Chicago, and Detroit. Later this evening, the final performance will take place in Fort Lauderdale at the Amerant Bank Arena. So, who’s on the closing lineup?

What Is The iHeartRadio Jingle Ball Miami Lineup?

According to iHeartRadio’s official website, the acts slated to take the stage include Marshmello, AJR, Flo Rida, Ludacris, LANY, David Kushner, Uproxx cover star Kaliii, and Paul Russell. Still, there is one special musician not listed on the landing page.

Due to professional obligations, Nicki Minaj had to bow out of her headlining appearance at iHeartRadio Jingle Ball Chicago. However, she replaced her set with her longtime friend and collaborator, Lil Wayne. She then made up for her absence at Jingle Ball Atlanta. But she’s not finished with Jingle Ball just yet.

When Nicki revealed she was pulling out of Jingle Ball Chicago, she let fans know she would double back with more than one set. “I am still performing at the Atlanta Jingle Ball on the 14th,” she wrote. “And now I’ll also be performing at the Miami Jingle Ball on the 16th.”

Later this month, ABC will air a televised special of the 2023 iHeartRadio Jingle Ball series on Thursday, December 21, at 8 p.m. ET. Find more information here.

Azealia Banks Defends Nicki Minaj Following Kanye West’s ‘No Body’ Verse Clearance Request Rant

After her iHeartRadio Jingle Ball performance on December 14 in Atlanta, Georgia, Nicki Minaj is laser-focused on all things Pink Friday 2. That means leaving behind anything that will siphon off promotional attention from it, including older collaborations. Unfortunately, that means her leaked viral verse for Kanye West’s song “New Body” might never see the light of day.

After Nicki apparently refused to clear her verse, which was set to appear on West’s forthcoming joint album Vultures with Ty Dolla Sign, he went on a rant against her. Now, Azealia Banks has inserted herself into the mix to take up for Nicki’s artistic decision.

On Saturday, December 16, in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), Banks tore into West. “Okay. Now I’m really pissed the f*ck off,” she wrote. “Regardless of how I feel about [Pink Friday 2], did fat, smelly loser Kanye West really just try to step all over Nicki’s release? Did I hear correctly when he tried to take credit for supporting her career.”

She continued, “Did he forget that Lil Wayne and Young Money [Records] supported her, believed in her, and shared their money, time, and resources with her to launch a female rapper to international icon status? Has Kanye ever successfully launched any artist he hasn’t sabotaged out of jealousy?”

Banks’ opinions on other artists tend to divide users online, but most fans support this take.

Nicki Minaj Fiercely Stands Her Ground In Her PF2 Era

Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj has been “standing on business” since her highly anticipated album, Pink Friday 2.  The Queen of Rap hasn’t let up during the Pink Friday 2 era, from her social media exchanges with Cardi B to calling out industry figures.

‘Take Your Man To A Park!’

In response to those she feels are “attacking” her, Nicki Minaj has not held back in expressing her thoughts. The recent drama unfolded when Cardi B took to social media to address her seemingly failing marriage with rapper Offset, where she is seen breaking down crying via Instagram Live.

Allegedly, Nicki posted a photo of Michael Jackson smiling and hanging out of a car window following the live, as Cardi B seemingly responded to Nicki with, “Take your man to a park and leave me the f*ck alone!” alluding to Nicki Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty, being a child sex offender.

Nicki Goes OFF On DJ Envy

Furthermore, Nicki Minaj addressed DJ Envy,  as one of her fans named @__Thankyounextt wrote a tweet saying:

“Why we can’t never be just fans? Why we can’t just support our girl? Why is it so much pocket watching when it comes to the barbz? Why the politics? We don’t ask ya’ll for nothing. Not even fair treatment. When the goal post is consistently being moved the we adjust and still show out!”

Minaj responded:

“Remember how cocky dj envy was when he was saying he black balls my music on the radio? Ask yourself how a DJ could get away w/that behavior. Then I remember him selling them busted houses & I have to laugh…We prayed, envy 1 by 1… God will show y’all that you are NOT GOD. #PinkFriday2”

‘Are You Ok?’

Then, late last night on Friday, December 15, Nicki Minaj took to Instagram to call out Elliott Wilson, CEO and founder of Rap Radar, who also has ties with music streaming platform, Tidal as a journalist.

Nicki Minaj stated in the live session:

“I remember when Red Ruby [Da Sleeze] came out, the n*gga gonna tweet, it’s good but it isn’t gonna cross over. Some stupid clown sh*t like what the- I didn’t ask you n*gga. Are you ok? I’ve been being so nice, I don’t think ya’ll realize how nice I’ve been being. So, all I ask is for respect, that’s all. I’ve never disrespected you, I’ve done an interview.. I think I did two. Where all you do is laugh like an ugly goof. You know, but that’s okay, but I’m just saying…leave my name and my photos off your f*cking Twitter finger ass.”

‘Hip-Hop Journalism’

The “Big Difference” rapper also continued in the live:

“You know how many tweets I’ve seen you post disrespecting me, Idiot Wilson. All of ya’ll, for some reason, when y’all are around certain people, ya’ll feel that ya’ll have this power.” She then spotted a comment that alleged that Elliott came at Drake, where she responded saying, “I didn’t know he came at Drake, I must’ve missed it. Came at Drake for what? Nobody owes you sh*t, h*e n*gga.” Nicki then exclaimed, “F*ck you!” Why when ya’ll have an affiliation to Jay-Z in some sort of way, ya’ll be thinking that, ya’ll can disrespect and violate.”

Prior, Nicki expressed on Twitter:

“‘Elliot if you’d spit JayZ dikk out for one second, you’d be able to be happy for the new comers. Isn’t that how ya’ll tried to tarnish my image? By saying I’m not welcoming new btchs in? Did songs with all of them tho. Why you not happy for a young black man like Kai. Tmrw btch.”

This comes after Elliott posted a screenshot of Nicki Minaj being featured on popular livestreamer Kai Cenat’s livestream, where she was seen twerking. He titled the photo, “Hip-Hop Journalism.”

No ‘New Body’?

As for the reason why the feature on Kanye West‘s “New Body” isn’t “happening,” Nicki Minaj addressed it in her Instagram Live, saying:

“Chile, that train has left the station. No disrespect, anyway I just put out a brand new album, why would I put out a song that has been out for 3 years. C’mon guys.”

This decision also resulted in the postponement of Kanye West’s joint album, “Vultures,”  with Ty Dolla $ign, because Nicki refused to clear the song.

Ye also shared a screenshot of his text conversation with Nicki Minaj regarding her verse on “New Body.” In the text, West wrote:

“Hi, it’s ye. May I call you about clearing ‘New Body’ on the new album.” Kanye discussed Nicki Minaj not clearing her verse for “New Body” in a video, stating, “I made that girl rewrite her verse 3 times for ‘Monster.’ I supported her career. So I don’t know what it is.”

Meg Goes OFF On Pardi

Amidst all this drama, another influential female artist, Megan Thee Stallion, has also been vocal about recent issues in the industry. Taking to her Instagram Live, she called out her ex-boyfriend Pardison Fontaine, Tory Lanez, and addressed allegations involving her ex-best friend, Kelsey Harris.

Will Lil Nas X Drop A Remix Of Nicki Minaj’s ‘FTCU?’

Lil Nas X Falls Festival Melbourne 2022

Nicki Minaj’s latest album, Pink Friday 2, has awakened the inner Barb in users online. With the “Cowgirl” rapper’s forthcoming world tour slated to kick off next year, supporters are trying to memorize the lyrics to the 24 songs and remixes shared on the body of work and Gag City deluxe version.

But fans believe, as she’s hinted, there is still more music to come. Although it doesn’t appear Minaj’s verse on “New Body” will make it to streaming services, supporters are turning their attention to another collaboration. Will Lil Nas X drop a remix of Nicki Minaj’s “FTCU” is now the question at the top of their minds. The answer is: maybe.

Today (December 15), the former Barb fan account manager took to his official X (formerly Twitter) to share a tease freestyle he recorded over the ATL Jacob-produced instrumental.

“We gone f*ck that club up / We gone throw some dubs up / If you broke, ain’t got no money, n**** shut the f*ck up / Shout out Miss Onika Tonya, that’s my mama, that’s on God / If you f*cking up the club, hit up Nas Maraj / I am in and in and out of town, ATL underground I stay in the South, been in Houston mo’ than Bobby Brown / F*ck this society, I do things in my way / It’s Onika and Lil Nassy, it’s a Pink-er Friday,” raps Lil Nas X.

Who knows if the pair will ever officially link, but for now, fans will hold on to the “FTCU” Nas Maraj mix for as long as they can.

Tasha K Thinks Nicki Minaj’s Album Rollout Could’ve Been Better In This Way

Tasha K is as big of a Nicki Minaj fan as anyone, but even she has her reservations about the rollout of her new album, Pink Friday 2. Moreover, she took to Twitter to voice some of her concerns and critiques, particularly with the press run behind this project. Of course, the blogger made it clear that she loves the rapper’s work and what she stands for. In fact, it’s a big part of the reason as to why she would hold her up to a higher standard when it comes to what she represents, highlights, and platforms. Tasha thinks that Nicki could’ve done a better job of uplifting female voices in the media space, but chose not to for whatever reason.

“I love tf outta Nicki Minaj and I gotta say something,” Tasha K’s tweet began. “Her press run is dope but it would have been even more classic if she would have included a FEMALE Media VOICE for the culture! I didn’t see her sit down with NOT one WOMAN in a male dominated media industry! I’m not talking about me!

Tasha K Speaks On Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday 2 Rollout

“I’m talking about the same thing she faces is in a male dominated rap industry!” Tasha K continued. “Angela Yee, Sherri Shepard, Jennifer Hudson, and at least one NewMedia voice! Please don’y forget the Barbie’s in media that have to fight for the same rights as you! I’m in Africa on my vacation! Don’t forget about the female voices that disseminate too! If I’m wrong on this, and I missed something, I will apologize for my error!” Overall, she’s making quite an interesting point that others also levy at the Trinidadian MC when it comes to her rap collabs.

Meanwhile, we know that Tasha has some heavy beef with other male media figures, so this callout against that hierarchy is unsurprising. Still, what do you think about her comments on Nicki’s treatment or alleged erasure of female voices in music coverage? Does she have a strong point or is this all just looking too deeply into it because she’s such a huge star? Whatever the case, drop your thoughts down in the comments section below.
