This news comes shortly after the announcement that the Philadelphia Eagles made QB Jalen Hurts the highest-paid player in the league. Unfortunately for the Ravens, the Hurts news couldn’t have come at a worse time for the time in their negotiations. It now seems Jackson will have a comparative contract on which to base his wants.

Jackson has been a start in his time in Baltimore. The former Heisman Trophy winner has added the MVP Award to his list of accolades. However, Jackson has yet to see any playoff success. Also, Jackson’s numbers have declined since his 2019 MVP season. Since that season, Jackson has only reached 20 touchdown passes or more just one time. But injuries have also played a role in that statistic. Jackson hasn’t been available for the full season in the past two years. But for Jackson, he doesn’t seem to believe that’s an issue.

Jalen Hurts doesn’t look to be leaving Philadelphia any time soon. It’s being reported that the Eagles QB has signed a five-year extension with the team. According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the five-year deal is for $255 million. The deal makes Hurts the highest-paid player in NFL history. Also, Hurts’ latest contract includes $179.304 million in guaranteed money. The Eagles have now locked up their franchise QB and paid him handsomely in the process.

Hurts had a monster in 2022, leading the Eagles to the one seed in the NFC. Unfortunately for Hurts, the Eagles ran into the Kansas City Chiefs in the biggest game of the year. If anyone had a better season than Hurts, it would be Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes. However, the Eagles have plenty to be happy about from the 2022 season. NFL Announces New Quarterback Helmet to Reduce Concussion Risk

The NFL and the league’s players union have announced a newly-designed helmet for quarterbacks to wear to reduce the severity of injuries that cause concussions. 

The NFL felt compelled to implement a change after seeing an increase in concussions last year of 22%, with quarterbacks accounting for a large portion of that increase. This new helmet will be available for players to wear during the 2023 season. The helmet, made by VICIS, was primarily created to protect quarterbacks, precisely when their heads hit the ground. 

The announcement follows last season’s high-profile injuries suffered by Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

The press release  stated tests of the new QB helmet “performed 7% better than the most popular helmet worn by quarterbacks last season.”

“We’ve now analyzed with our engineers and with the Players Association more than 1,000 concussions on field, we have a pretty good database of how these injuries occur,” NFL executive Jeff Miller told the AP about the helmet-to-ground impacts. “This helmet performs better in laboratory testing than any helmets we have ever seen for those sorts of impacts.”

Jason Neubauer, an executive for Vicis, said the company began designing its Zero2 Matrix QB helmet in early 2022.

“The unique thing is that it has a deformable outer shell, which means when you take an impact in any location on that helmet, it will deform or basically dent in that location to absorb the impact,” Neubauer said. “What that means for us, as designers or engineers, as we’re looking to optimize it for different types of impacts, we’re able to change unique locations to try to optimize the impact mitigation in any one area.

Forbes reports that the NFL has been criticized for years over the long-term impact of player injuries, especially repeated head injuries suffered during league games. According to Boston University researchers, 90% of former NFL players have shown signs of the degenerative brain disease chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), which is caused by frequent concussions and leads to depression, suicidal thoughts, aggression, and mood swings.

The NFL reported 149 concussions suffered over the 271 regular season games.

According to TMZ, Beckham can now move forward with his case against Nike. Nike requested the case be tossed out. However, a judge has ruled that the case can move forward. The judge’s decision is massive news for Beckham and his legal team.

According to the report, Beckham is accusing the brand of not paying him millions of dollars that he claims he deserves. Earlier when the case was filed, Beckham issued a statement on the situation at the time of the case being filed. “Unfortunately, Nike did not honor its commitments. Throughout our partnership, I have kept my promise and fulfilled my obligations to the brand. I am extremely disappointed that I’ve had to take these measures to ensure Nike fulfills their obligations and promises.” The judge not dismissing is a huge step in the right direction for Beckham and his legal team. But it doesn’t mean the fight is over.

However, fighting a brand giant like Nike might not end well. But for now, Beckham can celebrate the potential chance of getting what he allegedly is owed by the company.
