For the ninth year in a row, all 30 Major League Baseball teams will raise awareness for childhood cancer in all ballparks during all games on Sunday.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and MLB Together continues its community-based demonstrations of support for the cancer awareness among children, including outreach to local hospitals treating childhood patients.

According to the organization, all on-field personnel, including players, managers, coaches, and umpires will wear gold ribbon decals and wristbands during all games. Additionally, commemorative base jewels and line up cards will be featured on the day.

Club activations may include youth participation in pregame ceremonies, visits from players, mascots and other special recognitions. Nonprofit partners for Clubs may include partnering with local hospital or organizations focused on cancer among children such as Stand Up To Cancer, American Cancer Society, and Starlight Children’s Foundation.

As an extension of MLB’s relationship with Starlight Children’s Foundation, all 30 Clubs will be receiving either a Nintendo Switch Handheld or a Virtual Reality headset, which will be donated to a local children’s hospital, hospital pediatric cancer care unit or a pediatric cancer nonprofit organization. To learn more, visit www.mlbtogether.com/childhood-cancer-awareness-day and www.starlight.org/mlb.

This year, approximately 10,000 children under the age of 15 are expected to receive a cancer diagnosis in the United States. Across all demographics, this disease is the second-leading cause of death by disease in children ages 1-14. MLB, alongside other committed community leaders in this cause, are dedicated to lessening the statistics of cancer as a disease affecting young people.

Some of the most common types of childhood cancer include leukemia, brain tumors, central nervous system tumors, and malignant epithelial neoplasms and lymphomas. Over the past 50 years, cancer researchers have helped to develop treatments that have greatly changed the lives of patients with a pediatric cancer diagnosis. The five year survival rate for childhood cancer is now 85% (compared to 58% in the mid-1970’s).

[WATCH] Andre 3000 Premieres ‘New Blue Sun’ Short Film

TodayinHipHopHistory:AndréWasBornYearsAgo

André 3000, one of Hip Hop’s great craftsmen, writers and performers, brings his woodwind passion full circle today with the world premiere of the album’s official visual component, Listening To The Sun (an intimate album film for New Blue Sun 11/17/2023), a 90-minute long short film (or visual listening session). The feature, directed by Terence Nance (Random Acts of Flyness) and premiered on YouTube, is a performance art piece that finds André physically channeling the spirit of his latest studio album set in a serene, blue-lit setting with his aura and flute taking centerstage.

“I hope you enjoy the ride as much as we did. What you hear is what we did as it was happening,” André 3000 says about the “formations” that comprise New Blue Sun at the onset of his new short film. The artist and multihyphenate, with the help of just a few props (including a lit candle and a traffic cone), provides a captivating visual companion to his first studio album, which will perhaps serve as inspiration for how to experience the eight-track LP.

André was candid with GQ in a November cover story about his inspirations behind the album. “I’d like to make things that when I’m dead and gone 3,000 years from now, people may dig up and find,” he said. “So if that’s sculpting, if that’s actually physical artwork, painting, designing instruments, that’s where I’m at right now.” The Atlanta-bred artist’s audience, cultivated during parts of three decades, is on that journey with him.

New Blue Sun peaked at no. 1 on Billboard’s New Age and Current Alternative Albums charts, as well as Apple Music’s Alternative Albums chart following its release, in addition to a no. 2 peak on iTunes Albums and Apple Music overall albums charts, massive performances for the thematically tangential release. The album’s staying power has matched its intrigue, as it peaks once again at no. 1 on the Current Alternative Albums Chart this week, to go with a no. 2 slot on the LP Vinyl Chart. André and his flute have got something to say, and the world is both listening and witnessing it live. André 3000 will tour his debut LP for the second time this year in September, when he kicks off a 26-date North American trek beginning September 19 in New Orleans, and concludes on November 14 in André’s hometown of Atlanta.

André 3000’s flute path, which has taken him from the Venice coast where he met the manufacturer of his first flute, to a North American tour of his new album, has led him to yet another point on his exploration timeline: Listening to The Sun

Keefe D Denied Bond Again In Tupac Murder Trial, Judge Suspects Illegitimate Bail Money

Screenshot 2024 08 29 at 7.20.32 AM

Reputed gang member Duane “Keefe D” Davis has been denied bond once again in the ongoing Tupac Shakur murder trial, with the judge suspecting that the bail money could be ill gotten gains.

Clark District Court Judge Carli Kierny rendered her decision yesterday(August 27), mentioning that the $750K that Cash Jones aka Wack 100 offered to put up for Davis’ bond could launch an investigation.

“I have a sense that things are trying to be covered up,” Kierny said.

Judge Kierny stated that she got two nearly identical letters from the entertainment company that Wack said had sent him the money, but one of the letters was signed by someone with no affiliation to the aforementioned business. Kierny had previously denied Davis’ bond because she contended that he and Wack could possibly profit off Davis’ life story.

Wack admitted to putting up 15% of the $750K, but says that the offer wasn’t based on any previously agreed upon business dealings. Prosecutors later uncovered an interview with VladTV from earlier this summer, where Jnes talked about capitalizing on Davis’ story.

“It’s only $75,000,” he said in the clip. “I’ve been thinking about going to get him with the stipulations that I’ll do the series on it.”

In his defense, the 44-year-old record exec told the court, “That’s what I said to Vlad, but Keefe D is already involved with somebody. I have no contracts with him. Before you go on Vlad, you have a discussion about what you’re going to talk about and what needs to be said to draw up views. There’s nothing about Vlad and nothing about YouTube that says that we’re being truthful about what we’re saying for entertainment.”

Keefe D, who has been diagnosed with cancer, is the only person to ever be charged with Tupac’s 1996 killing in Las Vegas 27 years ago. Despite pleading not guilty, he claimed that he planned the shooting several times, including in his book Compton Street Legend released in 2019.

Mary J. Blige Speaks on Retirement: ‘In a Little While It Will Be Time’

Mary J. Blige to Receive Entertainment Icon Honors at Urban One Honors: Best in Black Event

Mary J. Blige is still considering retirement within this decade. Speaking with Us Weekly, she stated, “When it’s time, it’s time.”

“Sometimes I get fatigued,” MJB said. “I’ve been doing this for thirty-something years. In a little while, it will be time.”

What does retirement look like for The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul? “Retirement looks like traveling the world, going to places I never been before. Relaxing on yachts, in home, and enjoying the fruits of my labor.”

You can hear more from Mary J. Blige below.

Recently, Mary J. Blige dropped a brand new single, “Breathing,” featuring Fabolous.

The single, released through Blige’s own Beautiful Life Productions in partnership with 300 Entertainment, was produced by Shaun “S Dot” Thomas. The song was written by Mary J. Blige, Fabolous, Jocelyn “Jozzy” Donald, PurpleKBeats, and Jay Hawkins and contains samples of “Kick In The Door” by The Notorious B.I.G and “I Put A Spell On You” by Screamin’ Jay Hawkins. Blige was additionally inspired by Nina Simone’s rendition of “I Put a Spell on You.”

“Breathing” is Blige’s second single since the release of Good Morning Gorgeous, her critically acclaimed 15th studio album that received six GRAMMY® nominations at the 65th GRAMMY® Awards, including Album of the Year and Best R&B Album.

Her first single following the album, “Still Believe in Love,” was released in October 2023 and spent 7 weeks at #1 on The Billboard Adult R&B Airplay Chart. This marked her eighth #1 on the chart, cementing her as having the third-most No. 1s among women artists in the chart’s 30-year history.

“Breathing” showcases Blige’s unparalleled vocals and intimate lyricism. It is a song about what she promised: being happy where she is and reveling in it. Again, Blige proves why she was heralded as the “Queen of Hip-Hop Soul.”

[WATCH] Machine Gun Kelly: Most White Rapper “Stigma” Comes From White Fans

MGK VS EM

In a recent interview on Logan Paul’s IMPAULSIVE podcast, Cleveland-born rapper Machine Gun Kelly says that the backlash he’s received for being a white rapper comes from white Hip Hop fans, not Black Hip Hop fans as once believed.

“I won’t deny that there is a subconscious stigma around that, being white in Hip Hop,” he said following co-host Mike Majlak’s comments about the criticism faced by the majority of white rappers. “To me, it’s so funny because the streets fuck with me so tough. It’s honestly from other white people that give me the most shit.”

He admits that one of his biggest enemies, Eminem, was the only Caucasian rapper to successfully “cross the color line” on the mic .“The crazy thing is, there’s only been one who’s done it. There’s only been one who’s done it and crossed that line of ‘we accept.’”

Check out the conversation at the 37:45 mark below.
