David “Big Papi” Ortiz. Johnny Damon. Manny Ramirez. David Lowe. All of these former BoSox players will be in the new documentary from Netflix about the best postseason comeback in baseball history.

Premiering on Oct. 23, The Comeback: 2004 Boston Red Sox celebrates the 20th anniversary of the team’s groundbreaking postseason run, when the Red Sox came back from 3–0 in the playoffs against the Yankees before sweeping the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series.

Boston Red Sox fans will have a chance to go back two decades and hear first hand from some of the playmakers who turned Game 4 into Game 7 and “reversed the curse”. The “Curse of The Bambino” is an 66-year superstition among some baseball fanatics, especially in Boston, that the sale of Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees in 1920 kept the Red Sox from winning a World Series from 1918 until 2004.

The doc dives into the everlasting rivalry between the 27-time World Series Yankees and one of the oldest teams in Major League Baseball, Beantown’s BoSox. Directed by Colin Barnicle and executive produced by MLB, commentary from then Yankees skipper Joe Torre shows the other side of the coin with a team of superstars such as Alex Rodriguez, Dwight Gooden, Derek Jeter, Hideki Matsui ,Gary Sheffield and so many others, this story of the comeback shows how important baseball was and still is to both cities.

The doc is set to premiere at 8Pm EST exclusively on Netflix.

Today in Hip Hop history prolific South Bronx philosopher KRS-One released his second solo LP KRS-One (an acronym for Knowledge Reigns Supreme Over Nearly Everyone). With this album, the former Boogie Down Productions MC makes an attempt to reconnect with the younger scene in New York. The tone and style of this album fit more into the fold of popular rap music coming out of the Big Apple in ’95 allowing KRS-ONE to regain popularity among youthful Hip Hop fans.

With revamped production and features from the likes of Fat Joe, Busta Rhymes, Das EFX, and Mad Lion, this project only added to KRS-One’s repertoire. With this album KRS-One showed the could not only keep alive his brand of educational hardcore boom bap; but, that he could transition and taper his bars to a more high energy, party driven crowd.

Commercially, this album was a success. Peaking at #19 on the Billboard 200 and #2 on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Charts, it was obvious that KRS-One had yet to fade into the pages of Hip Hop history. Both critics and fans alike responded well to this slight style change, marking it as a moment of experimentation instead of accusing KRS-One of selling out. Fellow rap heavyweight also chimed in with their opinions of KRS-One work on the actual album. The LP is aced with interludes of radio shout-outs from rappers Method Man, Lord Finesse, Rakim, Jeru the Damaja, Mr. Magic, and even MC Shan who at one point had beef with Boogie Down Productions.

The “Diabolical” Biz dropped his second full length album 34 years ago today

A 25 year old Marcel Hall aka Biz Markie aka the Diabolical Biz put out his sophomore LP The Biz Never Sleeps thirty four years ago on this date.

After the success of his debut album Goin’ Off just a year prior, Biz dropped his second album on the Cold Chillin’/Warner Bros. imprint, which was highly anticipated because of the smash single “Just A Friend” leading the way. There were a few other singles like “Spring Again”, “Dedication”, and “Things Get A Little Easier” that were sure shot favorites of the harshest rap critics.

Unlike most of Biz’s work, this album was done without the help of production legend DJ Marley Marl, with Cool V and Biz himself doing the lion’s share of the work behind the boards. This was also the project that landed the L.I. beatbox/DJ/emcee in hot water due to sampling issues, which was magnified in Hip Hop almost single-handedly due to this certified gold classic. With tidbits of music from everyone from Kraftwerk to Curtis Mayfield, this kaleidoscopic Hip Hop journey will forever be etched in music history.

Saute to Biz Mark, DJ Cutmaster Cool V, Paul C, Fly Ty and everyone else for bring this musical gem!

After going scoreless through the sixth inning, Mets’ MVP and the team’s “ironman” Francisco Lindor rocks a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth to give the Kings from Queens the lead and ultimately the victory over the Philadelphia Phillies 4-1. The Amazins took the third win in four games against the Phils, moving on to their chance to win the pennant.

There was a lot of pressure on Philly, being behind in the NLDS series 2-1 against the Mets on top of attempting to close that deficit in Citi Field. The Phils jump out to take the lead with a double from right fielder Nick Castellanos in the fourth inning, which drove Bryce Harper to third and eventually home on a fielder’s choice. The Mets answered back in the sixth with a bases loaded dinger to center field, giving the Metropolitans a 4-1 lead that they held until the end.

Jose Quintana held Philly to just two hits in five innings, striking out six and only allowing one run, but David Peterson walked away with the win after keeping the Phillies from scoring through the eighth, only allowing two hits in two innings. Mets bullpen ace Edwin Diaz closed out the last inning with two strike out, fanning Kody Clemens for the last out of the game, locking in the Mets’ spot in the 2024 NLCS Series.

The Mets are now pennant contenders, taking on the winners of the Dodgers vs. Padres NLDS series, which is now tied 2-2. Ohtani and the Dodgers will host Tatis Jr. and the Padres tomorrow in Los Angeles to see who will face the Mets. The winner will represent the national League in this year’s World Series.

Ciara’s “Goodies” would have been a Brittney Spears banger in an alternative universe. Appearing on the Kelly Clarkson show, Ciara revealed the song was trying to be spun to the pop star.

“I learned about this later, but they were trying to give my song to Britney Spears,” Ciara said. “I know Britney wasn’t the one trying to take my song, because I love Britney.”

Just last week, Ciara has released her latest single, “Wassup,” featuring GRAMMY-nominated rapper Busta Rhymes, via her very own label, Beauty Marks Entertainment. Written by Ciara, Busta Rhymes, and Courtlin Jabrae and produced by J.R. Rotem, the energetic record taps into Ciara’s ATL roots with a current-day Y2K sound.

“’Wassup’ is a fun flex record. It started with a play on words on what we would say when I came up in ATL. “What’s up, what’s happenin?” It’s somewhat of a Y2K moment. I’m tapping into my ATL roots! It’s a song that’s meant for you to have the ultimate fun,” says Ciara. “Busta ‘slaughtered’ the track with his classic, undeniable, and unstoppable flow. He brought pure edge and the perfect energy to the record to take it all the way to a special place!”

Busta Rhymes remarks, “Y’all are in trouble because The Queen CiCi and The Dragon got a Banger!! That’s Wassup!!”

Busta and Ciara reunited on the road this summer for the critically acclaimed OUT OF THIS WORLD Tour alongside Missy Elliott. The tour left both fans and critics raving, Variety praised “Ciara was all sweat and allure,” while Atlanta Journal Constitution lauded, “[Ciara] captivated the crowd with her sultry dance moves and signature soprano.”

Additionally, today celebrates the 20th anniversary of Ciara’s 4x platinum debut album Goodies. A limited edition hot pink colored vinyl, which includes the original album and two bonus tracks, “Crazy” and “Represent Me,” is available now.

The Vote Or Else Initiative Hits Philadelphia

Screenshot 2024 10 09 at 11.59.24 PM

One of Philadelphia’s most beloved ever Philadelphia transplants is joining two or its loudly heralded natives sons for a Voter Registration and Town Hall in the City of Brotherly Love. Allen Iverson headlines a list of names that include Beanie Sigel and Freeway converging on Philly today at the Liacouras Center.

The organization Vote Or Else has been spearheading campaigns to get people

To register and go out to the polls come Election Day. They have also organized this event where athletes and luminaries from the hip-hop community have an open dialogue with themselves and amongst the people where they will speak on the upcoming election as well as issues facing the community they want to see addressed not just by the next President, but by state and local officials.

NFL legend Michael Vick, Nipsey Hussle’s brother and the head of The Marathon Brand and Blacc Sam, broadcasting Hall of Famer Angie Martinez, Killer Mike, Havoc of Mobb Deep, Jadakiss, Icewear Vezzo, and Star of Power Book II: Ghost, Michael Rainey, are among those coming to participate.

“Many of us in the hip-hop community have always been leaders for the Black community in general and it’s only right we come together, start organizing and discuss these issues,” Beanie Sigel said. “Of course everything can’t be solved overnight, but the more we dialogue and build with each other, the closer we get to coming up with solutions.”

Beanie started a journey to get better educated himself and educate others as well when it comes to voting earlier this year. His great friend and head of the organization Mobilize Justice Marvin Bing, urged him to get more involved.

This summer Sigel aligned himself with Mobilize Justice as well as organizations The Black Church PAC and AAPI(those three entities have banded together to form Vote or Else, with anti-gun violence, anti- voter suppression, and anti-Mass incarceration as main initiatives) to get active. Him and Bing helped recruit artists and activist to not just go on the communities and talk to people about the the absolute need to vote, but last month, Sigel was joined by a assortment of Detroit MCS such as Icewear Vezzo and Baby Money as they went door to door in various Motor City communities and registered those eligible to vote.

“I’m not telling people which politician to vote for,” Sigel advised. “I’m telling people they should get informed about candidates’ policies, not just Presidential, but state and local. Then you go to the polls and make an informed decision. You can affect change sitting on the sidelines.”

Sigel and company have already been to Detroit with Philly locked in for today.

[WATCH] Lord Jamar Points Out Biggie’s “Out Of Pocket” Lyrics, Blames Diddy

In an exclusive sit down with Hip Hop podcast Art Of Dialogue, vocal Brand Nubian member Lord jamar delves into the lyrical content of one of the Notorious B.I.G.’s classic hits amid Diddy’s sex trafficking and racketeering scandal and says that some of Biggie’s bars aren’t aging well in this day and time.

“Biggie has some of the most out-of-pocket lyrics of any rapper ever and hopefully there will never be a rapper with worse lyrics,” Jamar injected into the convo. “But there’s so much sh*t that Biggie said that people just overlooked at the time and now, when we fast-forward to where we’re at, and hear about all the sh*t with Puff, now, certain things are not aging. It was bad back then but it’s aging even worse.” He went on to say, “I don’t care how good a woman looks, I would never give fellatio to her father because she’s so beautiful.”

Jamar then expounded on an industry rumor that there was a transgender “dude” in the videos for “Big Poppa” and in the bed with Biggie in the visuals for “Warning”. He went on to say that the same transgender was in the “Flava In Ya Ear” (Remix) video dancing behind LL Cool J, who began his verse saying “HeShe!”

He concluded his take on the current climate around Diddy by saying, “With all of this baby oil splashing around, you’re gonna get some on you. If you get some on you, that’s when things start to get slippery.”

[WATCH] Body Cam Footage From Rich Homie Quan Investigation Released Online

Rich Homie Quan's Family Releases an Official Statement

Rich Homie Quan’s cause of death was ruled by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office as an accidental overdose earlier this month, which was cause by a lethal combo of fentanyl, alprazolam, codeine, and promethazine found during his autopsy.

It was reported that food was still in his mouth when he was discovered on the kitchen floor by his brother, Andre Munford, at 3am the morning before the ambulance was called. Later that same morning, his GF Amber Williams woke up at 11am and saw that Quan was still in the same position for the past eight hours.

At that time, Williams called 911 and paramedics took him to Atlanta’s Grady Hospital, which is where the 34-year-old rapper passed away. Body footage from police on the date of his death(September 5) has surfaced online, where you can see first responders question Munford and Williams about what exactly transpired before paramedics arrived.

Starting at 4:18, you can see the actual footage from the bodycam of police on the scene

His brother seemed to be able to handle the questioning quite thoroughly, but Williams seemed obviously emotional from the entire ordeal. GOSSIP OF THE CITY says that Munford took some pictures of him with the food in his mouth. APD also told Williams that Quan’s eyes were still open when he was being transported to the hospital.

Police on the scene claim that Quan’s death was suspicious, so homicide detectives were called to the scene.

Today in Hip-Hop History: T.I. Drops His Debut Album ‘I’m Serious’ 23 Years Ago

TodayinHip HopHistory:T.I.DropsHisDebutAlbum'I'mSerious'YearsAgo

On this date in 2001, the self-proclaimed “King Of The South,” rapper/actor T.I., released his first album entitled I’m Serious.

Produced by several behind the board legends including ATL’s DJ Toomp, Jazze Pha, Lil Jon, The Neptunes, and few others, with features from Pharrell, Bone Crusher, Too Short, Pastor Troy, and many other South and West icons still did not garner him the commercial success that he would eventually be recognized for his music as well as in the cinema.

With this being T.I.’s lowest-selling album, Arista Records made the heartbreaking move to cut him from the label after selling less than 300K copies. This was the obvious silver lining in the cloud because T.I has not only went on to become one of the top-selling Hip-Hop artists to date but has also made his mark on the silver screen starring along with the likes of Denzel Washington, Ruby Dee, and many others.

Regardless of what the critics have to say, salute to T.I. for offering up this underground Hip-Hop classic!
