Don Toliver is still one of the more entertaining voices in hip-hop right now. His unique, nasally, high-pitched voice makes him standout out from most of the competition. Furthermore, he has the support of artists like Travis Scott, which means he has a great ear for beats and atmosphere. All of that has translated to some memorable tracks of the 2020 decade and some solid records. However, some could make the case that he has not truly capitalized on any four of his studio releases. But, those arguments might be put to rest after Don Toliver drops his next offering, Hardstone Psycho.

So far, the Houston, Texas multi-hyphenate has given fans excellent tracks to chew over. “Bandit” sees the more explosive side of Don Toliver. He sounds focused and hard as all hell over the rockin’ sample flip of Tame Impala’s “One More Hour.” Then, you have “Deep in the Water,” which is the low-key and vibey version of Don T. On this cut, he displays affection and support for his girlfriend and mother of their newborn baby, Kali Uchis. What is interesting is that this song also incorporates some elements of rock with the riffing at the end.

This is part of the reason why Hardstone Psycho could be a special record for Don, but also for hip-hop. A lot of people are tired of hearing the same formula. But, effectively working in another genre like rock, could pave the way for other artists to try it as well. All of this incredible potential is why we are so amped to hear Don reveal a rough release date for the album. During his Rolling Loud set, he told the audience that they can expect it sometime this summer. He segued that announcement into an incredible head-knocking preview with even more solo guitar work. Hopefully, we get both the song and album sooner than later.

Although he is one of the best streaming artists right now, he can’t seem to sell out an arena tour. Many have attributed this to the fact that the tickets are too expensive. However, some believe it is because the artist doesn’t put on a good enough stage show to warrant such large venues. Either way, it has led to various date cancelations.

Furthermore, The Kid LAROI just dropped out of the tour, which is another huge blow. Ultimately, this is becoming a disaster, and things only got worse for Lil Baby on Tuesday. This is because the artist shared a new song preview on social media, that immediately went viral. With Baby’s status in the game being heavily debated, fans were quick to judge the new track. As you will hear below, the song is very much in the same vein as Baby’s other tracks. Consequently, fans were less than amused.

Lil Baby Shares New Snippet

The tweet above has over 6,000 quote tweets and just 9,000 likes. Although it may not be the most brutal ratio, it is still indicative of just how much people were not feeling this music. If you were to go to the quote tweets right now, you would see a whole lot of hate. For instance, one tweet compared Lil Baby’s trajectory to that of DaBaby and Roddy Ricch. Additionally, some said that Gunna should be glad that he was cut off by Lil Baby and others.

Twitter user @big_business_ wrote, “Nothing worse than when you see your favorites trying to find a single to stick.” Another said. “Gunna being cut off by them was really a blessing in disguise lol being associated with this sinking ship wouldn’t benefit him at all.” These are all harsh critiques and certainly feel like an exaggeration. Although the message of the “For Da Girls” anthem resonates with many fans, many of whom have shown their excitement for the song in the comment section, some have trolled the mother-of-three for the lyrics. With lyrics like “this is for the girls that don’t need no man” implying empowerment for the single lifestyle, the irony remains that Ciara is happily married.
