Eminem is currently gearing up to unleash his eagerly anticipated album The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce) this Friday. Today, he gave his fans a taste of what’s to come with a new trailer, complete with an unexpected reference to a viral meme. The trailer in question shows him spitting on the headstone of the “beloved antagonist” in the pouring rain. “‘It feels so empty without him,’” he captioned the post. “HAWK TUAH.”

Right before the trailer ends, Slim Shady’s muddied hand is seen shooting up from the grave. While it didn’t provide much insight as to what fans can expect from the album musically, it hints at themes of resurrection on top of death itself. In the recently released “Tobey” music video, for example, viewers got to see Eminem going at his iconic alter ego with a chainsaw. This new teaser suggests that he’ll certainly be making a comeback on the new album, and fans can’t wait.

The Death Of Slim Shady Drops July 12

The trailer follows the recent unveiling of the project’s cover art, which shows Slim Shady peaking out of a partially zipped body bag. It also arrives after Eminem unveiled the tracklist, only building additional anticipation. He left fans guessing when it comes to features, though a seemingly leaked tracklist that surfaced online last week suggests that there could be plenty. Apple Music is rumored to have shared the tracklist by accident while making the album available for pre-save, inadvertently unveiling appearances from J Cole, JID, Black Thought, Tech N9ne, Ez Mil, and more

Eminem Unveils Official Tracklist For “The Death Of Slim Shady”

The wait is almost over. Eminem has pulled out all the bells and whistles in the build up to his new album, The Death of Slim Shady. The album’s release date is almost upon us, though, so there’s little left to do then let the music speak for itself. Now we have a tracklist. Eminem dropped the song titles on July 9th, confirming the inclusion of lead singles “Houdini” and “Tobey.” The biggest delight, though, is how long the album is. Em is not skimping out on the content.

The Death of Slim Shady will be 19 tracks long. This makes it longer than Kamikaze and Recovery, and more in line with the deluxe editions of more recent albums. There also seems to be song titles that are direct sequels to Eminem classics, or riffs on earlier song ideas. “Guilty Conscience 2” is obviously an extension of the classic Dr. Dre collab from 1999. Given that Dre is heavily involved with The Death of Slim Shady, it’s safe to assume he will return for a couple verses. “Brand New Dance” also calls back to “Square Dance” from Em’s 2002 classic The Eminem Show.

The Features On Eminem’s Album Are Hidden

There’s strong demonic imagery littered throughout the tracklist. The final trailer for the album sees a woman give birth to a demonic infant, so it’s definitely on brand. The Death of Slim Shady will include songs called “Lucifer” and “Antichrist” back to back on the album, as well as “Bad One.” Other titles suggest a more frenetic, angry energy like “Fuel” or “Road Rage.” This also makes sense, given how Slim is the embodiment of all of Eminem’s worst tendencies. “Houdini” was a clear throwback to the rapper’s heyday, so it should fit in with the rest of the songs here.

The more reflective songs titles come later in the tracklist. “Temporary” suggests a transient angle that falls out of the Slim purview and more into older, contemplative Em. The same goes for the final song on the album, “Somebody Save Me.” It’s worth noting that the only features listed on the album are Big Sean and BabyTron, who appear on the already-released “Tobey.” Based on the collaborations that have been teased in the lead up to The Death of Slim Shady, it looks as though the other features will be hidden until the album drops on July 12.

After all, how could Kanye retire from music? Well, it seems like it may have been some clever marketing. Just moments after the news went viral, RTK took to Twitter and said “ACTUALLY WE DROPPING FRIDAY.” Below, you can see the tracklist for his new album which is coming out on July 19th. Ye will be featured on the song “Plaine Jane.”

Childish Gambino’s Feature List For New Album “Bando Stone” Allegedly Revealed

Childish Gambino’s new album Bando Stone & The New World is quickly becoming one of the most anticipated releases of the year, and for good reason. There have been a lot of great clips of reported project cuts, plus a hot new single, a revamped version of his 2020 album, and a new film to boot. But folks are speculating a lot about what features we can expect on the LP when it drops on July 19. Per some online reports, we have an alleged guest list to look at. But take it with a grain of salt, as we’re not entirely sure of where this information came from.

According to NFR Podcast, for example, Bando Stone will feature Yeat, Kamasi Washington, Amaarae (twice), Steve Lacy, Fousheé, Jorja Smith, Chlöe Bailey, Flo Milli, and Childish Gambino’s son. The platform also suggested that this information comes from the New York City listening party that he recently hosted, and that not every track from the album was previewed. As such, maybe we can expect even more features on the album in addition to these. However, it’s also entirely possible that the final version won’t include this exact list, so we’ll just have to tune in and see.

Childish Gambino’s Rumored Feature List For Bando Stone & The New World

What’s more is that this feature list is pretty exciting regardless because it points to the versatility to come on Bando Stone. After all, Childish Gambino’s lead single to this album, “Lithonia,” is a dramatic alt-rock-leaning cut that is unlike much of what he’s done in the past. With these rumored guests in mind (Fousheé and Steve Lacy were actually at the listening event), we can only expect similar lushness and variety on the project. If not, then we’re sure that Donald Glover’s mind will be enough to bring this approach.

Meanwhile, as for the Bando Stone movie, we still don’t have many details on when that will come out or how. But fans are still excited either way, and how couldn’t they be? Childish Gambino is one of the great multi-disciplinary creative minds of our time, and one that doesn’t pop up too often. So we can’t wait to see what wild world he will explore here.

Megan Thee Stallion’s First Week Sales For “MEGAN” Draw Mixed Reactions

Megan Thee Stallion finally came through with MEGAN, her long-awaited solo comeback since going independent, and it certainly made a splash. The album landed at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart with around 64K in first-week sales, which has caused a field day on social media thanks to the Houston femcee’s beef with Nicki Minaj, among other considerations. For one, Barbz were cackling at 64K considering that Pink Friday 2 sold almost four times that in its first week. On the other hand, music fans at large might not find these numbers as impressive, but albums sales just aren’t what they used to be across the board for most artists… well, unless you’re Taylor Swift, that is.

Regardless, Megan Thee Stallion fans are still pretty happy with these numbers, bringing up no big features and label issues from going independent, plus little radio play, as obstacles that should’ve resulted in even less than 64K. Also, in terms of visibility and social media conversation, Meg’s not going anywhere anytime soon and is working hard to cater to her hardcore fans. But Nicki Minaj already seemed to dismiss MEGAN‘s first-week sales, and comparison is the thief of joy. Maybe if they actually had a back-and-forth diss track showdown, fans could depend on this metric for their discussions.

Megan Thee Stallion’s MEGAN‘s First Week Sales

However, we also know that some factors jeopardized the legitimacy of MEGAN‘s numbers, and at least they caught it before first-week sales numbers hit. Spotify reportedly removed 30 million streams from Megan Thee Stallion’s albums numbers on the platform, allegedly due to these being bot streams. While we don’t actually know the reason why this change occurred, it still drew the ire and defense of many fans online. Especially considering Tina Snow’s blasting of bots on “HISS,” it’s not the best look, albeit one that she likely had nothing to do with.

Meanwhile, the “Otaku Hot Girl” femcee is living large these days, enjoying every last second of this MEGAN rollout amid all the chaos. It will be interesting to see what sticks around from this tracklist and if the album as a whole will continue to perform commercially. After all, no one’s doubting that Megan Thee Stallion could very well best these numbers with some big promos, headlines, or other supportive releases. So let’s see what happens, and what will be the next Billboard debut to debate.

Childish Gambino Previews His New Album With Foushee & Steve Lacy At NYC Listening Event

Childish Gambino’s new album (and multi-media project, as there’s a film involved), Bando Stone & The New World, is coming out on July 19, and fans couldn’t be more excited. Moreover, that’s especially the case thanks to a recent listening party he held in New York City to preview this new project and play some music from it. Donald Glover also tapped Steve Lacy and Fousheé to perform together, as it seems like they have a couple of collaborations on the highly anticipated LP. Either way, it made for an amazing show, and one that displayed the sheer variety and lushness that Bando Stone will presumably champion.

Furthermore, the single for this project, “Lithonia,” shows Childish Gambino moving in a more alt-rock and possibly emo-inspired direction, complete with blaring guitars, dramatic pianos, and a spotlit vocal performance. According to clips from this listening event, the album will also contain some hip-hop worship, funky passages, tender soul, electronic embellishments, and a lot of sharp and melodically serene songwriting. We’re sure that there’s even more in store, as this album comes after a pretty long wait. But what’s the fun in spoiling the surprises?

Childish Gambino, Fousheé & Steve Lacy Perform At Bando Stone Listening Party

Also, this is a very interesting rollout because it followed a curious but welcome reflection on Childish Gambino’s behalf of his past releases. The last album we got before Bando Stone was 2020’s 3.15.20, which he chose to revamp and re-release as the 2024 project Atavista. There were some notable changes and feature additions compared to the original version, plus some wholly unchanged aspects. It’s not really a common sighting in the mainstream or in the underground to handle releases in this way, so we’re glad that this experiment manifested.

Meanwhile, fans are ecstatic to hear about Childish Gambino’s new film soon, for which this new album will apparently be some sort of soundtrack. As with all things Donald Glover, he’s going to wear a lot of hats and make a whole media experience out of his creativity. You certainly won’t find us complaining, especially after how great much of this listening party material sounded. We’re all ready for Bando Stone & The New World, and we can’t wait to explore it.

CupcakKe Returns After Six Years With “Dauntless Manifesto”

Chicago, Illinois rapper cupcakKe is by far and away not your average rapper and Dauntless Manifesto proves that still. Sure, she talks about some stereotypical topics in her music, but the delivery is truly one of a kind. She blew up in the mid 2010s with songs like “Cpr” and “Deepthroat”. Both were so absurd that they went viral online and gave her a semblance of an audience. Presumably, a lot of listeners were not able to take her seriously enough to really stick around. It seems that she was before her time, as now ratchet hip-hop is all the craze right now. Artists like Sexyy Red, Sukihana, and Ice Spice, are just some examples of this. While these three might cite Nicki Minaj as the reason why they became rappers, cupcakKe started this unapologetic wave years ago.

Her lyrics might not seem like a lot on the surface, but she is a true pioneer whether people want to admit it or not. It is why the return of cupcakKe on Dauntless Manifesto is so exciting. After six, long years with no album, her unhinged bars are still bountiful on this fifth studio LP, but the topics are not the typical fare. A day before Dauntless Manifesto arrived, cupcakKe revealed on X what she was bringing to light. “This album speaks on Police Brutality, Body positivity, Racism, Poverty, Suic*de , Self Love, ETC.” What is also so cool about this, is that the instrumentals are always different. “Hip hop , pop, hyper pop, Afro pop, rock” all land here and we cannot be more excited about this tape.

Flau’jae Drops Her Biggest Project To Date With “Best Of Both Worlds”

“I love combining my two talents. Best of Both Worlds shows you don’t have to choose one path—you can excel in multiple arenas”, Flau’jae said in a press release according to Complex. “This project reflects who I am — a basketball player, a rapper, and someone who refuses to be put in a box. I hope my fans can feel the passion and dedication I’ve poured into every song”. The LSU Tigers junior guard has been one of the main stars of that basketball program. If she decides to enter the WNBA Draft, she will for sure be a face of that league as well. However, as she stated, Flau’jae is not settling for one career path.

Over the last few years, Ms. Johnson has been ramping up her musical activity. Most of the progress has been made through singles and EPs. But helping propel her forward have been some faces that hip-hop fans will recognize. For example, leading up to the release of Best Of Both Worlds, Flau’jae got in the studio with 2Rare and NLE Choppa for two out of the five promotional tracks. As a result, both have become two of her most popular songs on streaming. Additionally, she had the opportunity to work with a Louisiana legend in Lil Wayne for “Came Out A Beast”, which is also popping off right now.

Overall, Flau’jae has the talent, the star power, and the connections to really grow her platform in the rap industry. We do not have a lot of female basketball players that can also spit, so she is becoming a pioneer right before our eyes. What has also been a cool byproduct of Best Of Both Worlds for her is that she now has a podcast of the same name. According to Sports Illustrated, it is co-hosted by her mother and is receiving backing from the major sports media outlet, Overtime. Previous Industries Dissect Terrific Abstract Productions On Their Debut Tape “Service Merchandise”

Previous Industries may be the so-called new kid on the block when it comes to hip-hop groups. However, the chemistry that Open Mike Eagle, Video Dave, and STILL RIFT showcase on their debut album Service Merchandise, is quite impressive. To some that may be a surprise. But all three guys have been rapping for years and sharing that Chicago connection helps as well. It is why this uniting of underground talents is such a W, as the trio displays patience with each other. It never feels like either of them are stepping on one another’s toes. They swap out at the perfect time every time, so the guys all receive the ideal amount of time to show off their rhymes. Previous Industries has been working toward Service Merchandise for a little bit now after announcing that they would be joining forces in January.

On top of this bombshell, they got right to it, dropping their inaugural singles, “Showbiz” and “Braids”. Then, about three months later, Previous Industries would release “Pliers”, followed by “Zayre” in June. All four singles were pretty stellar, and they accurately depict what you are getting from them on the LP. That being surgical rhyme schemes and bars over jazzy and abstract instrumentals. Speaking of the latter, each one carries a unique personality. Whether it be the actual instruments or the incredible sample flips, Previous Industries are providing listeners with creatively lush soundscapes for 11 cuts. Give Service Merchandise a whirl if you are looking for engaging underground excellence.
