Curren$y & MonstaBeatz Are A “Radioactive” Combo On Their New Collaboration Album

Louisiana rapper Curren$y is still riding on high on Highway 600, as he drops another collab tape called Radioactive alongside MonstaBeatz. This is the prolific talent’s second LP release of 2024 and it follows up on the aforementioned project with Trauma Tone. As much as Curren$y loves to make lowkey slappers, he might enjoy working with producers on his LPs even more. MonstaBeatz, in terms of discography, is not as reputable of a name as a Trauma Tone. But when you delve into the 12 tracks here you are going to be pleasantly surprised. Even with such a minimal history together (“Park Bench” with Smoke DZA), Monsta selects beats that suit Curren$y’s hazy style.

Druggy trap instrumentals are the name of the game once again. However, MonstaBeatz also mixes in some solid synth and tone work to mix things up a bit. It sort of gives the tape a West Coast flavor. Overall, it is quite the toss-up between if Curren$y’s performances are better on Radioactive or Highway 600. Also making this a tougher decision are the features. Jay Worthy, Fiend (twice), DeeLow Diamond Man, and Fendi P are all great and offer some nice cadence switch-ups. So, once again, it comes down to whether or not you prefer them over Don Toliver and Maxo Kream. While we enjoy both from Curren$y this year, check out Radioactive for yourself and let us know your thoughts below.

Dr Dre Details Hilarious Blind Double Date With Snoop Dogg Gone Wrong

Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg are the most iconic duo in hip-hop history. Granted, they are an official duo like Outkast or Mobb Deep, but their impact is undeniable. They codified gangsta rap in the mainstream, and have mentored generations of West Coast artists. Dre and Snoop are mythic figures at this point. That’s what makes stories about their early days so enthralling. It’s nice to hear about instances in which they were more relatable, less G’d out. Dr Dre provided fans with one such story during a recent interview.

The duo sat down with Capital Xtra on June 19 to take about their three decade friendship. Snoop Dogg detailed his reverence for Dr Dre, dubbing him his “older brother.” He also credited the producer for his business acumen, and sound financial advice over the years. “I just love being with him in the studio and real life,” Snoop explained. Dr Dre was appreciative, but he took the interview in a more comedic light. He decided to recount a story in which him and Snoop went on a blind double date. Dre recalls being thrilled when they went to pick up their dates. That was, until he realized the woman he was entranced by was actually Snoop’s girl.

Dr Dre Recorded A Classic The Day After The Double Date

“I thought it was mine and it wasn’t,” Dr Dre jokingly recalled. “Snoop pushed me out the way like, ‘Nah, Cuz, that’s me.’ When I turned that corner and saw mine, I was really disappointed.” To make the whole thing worse, the duo had to drive in a rain storm to get there. “We drove for an hour in Hurricane Katrina to get there and I was extremely disappointed,” the producer reiterated. Incredibly, there is a silver lining to the story. While the double date didn’t go as planned for Dr Dre, the producer went into the studio the very next day and recorded “Nothin’ But a ‘G’ Thang.” The 1992 song would become a smash hit and a signature for both him and Snoop.

Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg are close as ever. The two artists are working on the album Missionary, which is said to be a sequel to Snoop’s 1993 debut Doggystyle. Dr Dre will handle production on the album, and has been working on and off with Snoop for the last two years. Snoop Dogg promised that Missionary is going to be worth the wait, as it will showcase a mature side of his musical persona. “[Dr Dre] uses me like a f*cking robot and I love it because I love to be produced,” he told the podcast All the Smoke with Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson. “I love to be challenged…. [the album is] masterful.”

Fortunately for those feeling JT’s new mixtape, it looks like there will be more to come. In her Paper cover story, she clarified that City Cinderella was put together quickly and that it’s not her first real album. “People work on their albums for a year, albums are just different. So City Cinderella is not my first album, being that I made this project so damn fast,” she explained. “I had to create this project throughout the tour and moving around, so I didn’t have time to really nurture and doctor it. This is just something that I’m putting out with my pure instincts.”

Eminem’s “The Death Of Slim Shady” First Week Sales Revealed

Earlier this month, Eminem finally unveiled his eagerly anticipated new album, The Death Of Slim Shady. The project boasts various high-profile features from the likes of Big Sean, JID, Ez Mil, and more, and was expected to have a huge first week. It was projected to move over 300k copies, earning Em a top spot on the Billboard 200, and passing Taylor Swift’s 12-week The Tortured Poets Department reign.

Now, HITS Daily Double has the numbers, and they certainly don’t disappoint. Reportedly, The Death Of Slim Shady sold 287K in its first week, not including physical sales. Physical copies aren’t due to ship for another couple of months, which is why they’re not yet accounted for. With that being said, the number is still on par with what was projected, and is no small feat considering how long Eminem has been in the game.

The Death Of Slim Shady Sells 287K Its First Week, Not Including Physical Sales

Much like the album itself, the news has garnered mixed reactions from fans. While some are impressed with how many copies Em managed to move, others think the number sounds low for him. Many point out that this is likely due to physical sales not being included, however, which are sure to be a sizable addition to the current number.

Commercially, the project has undoubtedly been a success so far, though the same can’t be said for its critical reception. Pitchfork rated the project 4.8/10, Anthony Fantano of TheNeedleDrop rated it 5/10, and its Metacritic score is currently at 48/100. That’s not to say that nobody loves the project, however, as evidenced by its first-week sales. What do you think of Eminem’s new album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)? What about it selling 287K units in its first week? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

Blxst Proves To Be Another R&B Superstar In The Making On “I’ll Always Come Find You”

The entire state of California has been owning the rap scene in 2024 since Kendrick Lamar’s gentlemen’s sweep of Drake in their beef. Moreover, this has allowed the rest of the acts from the West Coast to feel more ready than ever to put on for their region. Enter Blxst, the Los Angeles rapper/singer hybrid who is now here with his debut album, I’ll Always Come Find You. Now, you may be asking yourself, “How is this his first studio LP?”.

Well, that is a great question, and it appears that Billboard is someone who has some sort of answer. In announcing I’ll Always Come Find You to the publication, he revealed that the timing was a major factor. “This is the most confident I’ve ever felt in my music. What I had to overcome while making this album changed my entire creative process, and the fans deserve to see the growth from that. I would be doing a disservice to not reach the heights I dreamed of reaching when I first started as an artist. No better time than now”, Blxst said.

Overall, we can see where the “Die Hard” guest star is coming from. As it stands, Blxst is arguably at his most versatile on this album. He is giving fans numerous genres of music, as well as some incredibly smooth and vulnerable performances across these 20 songs. So, be sure to give IACFY with the links below. Furthermore, let us know where you would rank this release amongst the rest of his projects.

Drake Fans Hear His Influence On Childish Gambino’s New Album “Bando Stone And The New World”

Today, Childish Gambino finally unleashed his new album, Bando Stone and The New World. The heavily teased project is the last under Donald Glover’s rap moniker and makes full use of his versatility. As fans listen and share their reactions to the album on social media, however, many are pointing out similarities to other artists’ music.

On tracks like “Talk My Sh*t” and “Yoshinoya,” for example, fans swear they hear Drake’s influence. They’re sounding off on X, accusing Childish Gambino of stealing the Toronto hitmaker’s style. “Tooooo much like Drake,” one social media user writes. “This is clear as day Drake influence,” someone else insists. Not everyone thinks Childish Gambino is guilty of style-biting, however.

Childish Gambino Faces Style-Biting Accusations Over New Project

Other commenters claim that this is a reach, and are arguing that Drake’s own flow isn’t original. “But Drake’s music isn’t inspired by Drake,” one user writes. “Drake doesn’t have a style for anyone to copy from him,” another says. Some even suspect that Gambino might have done this on purpose to throw some subliminal shade. Of course, this is still up for debate, but it wouldn’t be the first subliminal of the project to get fans talking.

On Gambino’s track “Survival” with Chloe Bailey, he also seemingly dissed Joe Budden. “They in the minor leagues, but I’m pro-Black / I bet he hate his mom, how you know that? / You got a podcast ’cause you can’t rap / You on some Fresh and Fit s**t, talking body counts / I count a body every time I’m on tracks,” he raps. Previously, Budden claimed that Drake would beat Gambino in a rap battle, which could explain the apparent animosity. What do you think of Childish Gambino’s new album, Bando Stone and The New World? Do you hear Drake’s influence or not? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

Rich The Kid Delivers “Life’s A Gamble”, Executively Produced By Kanye West

“I feel like everything in life’s a gamble. You walk out the front door, you could get hit by a bus. Everything’s a gamble. I’ve taken wins and losses with my career, and I felt it was a perfect title”. That was Rich The Kid explaining the meaning behind the title of his latest studio album, Life’s A Gamble to Billboard. This is the Queens, New York native’s first solo record since 2020’s BOSS MAN. However, he did drop two collaborative tapes that same year —Origin and Nobody Safe— and Trust Fund Babies with Lil Wayne in 2021.

While a fair number of those past releases had lukewarm results, Life’s A Gamble, hopes to perform better. It helps that Rich The Kid has built up a lot of momentum coming in. A lot of that stems from him being on the number one record “CARNIVAL” off of Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign’s VULTURES 1. Speaking of those two, Rich The Kid grabbing them to executive produce this LP had fans licking their lips. Finally, the lead singles, “Gimme A Second” and its sequel, as well as “Band Man”, have also been performing well.

What we can say about LAG is that you can tell that Kanye and Ty were big contributors. That is especially true when it comes to the production. For the most part, the beats and the guests attached are the stars of the show (Chief Keef, Offset, Quavo, etc.). However, Rich does have solid performances here such as “Gimme A Second” and “Not In The Mood”. But will all of this be enough to negate the long wait and numerous track and feature removals? It sure is a gamble and we will see if it pays off for Rich The Kid soon.

Childish Gambino Is Eclectic As Ever On “Bando Stone And The New World”

Childish Gambino marches to the beat of his own drum. He’s never made the same album twice, whether it be the pop-rap opus Because the Internet or the funky Awaken, My Love. The sounds are different, and the themes wildly varied. This pattern is upheld with the latest (and possibly last) Gambino album. Bando Stone and the New World is a wildly eclectic collection of music, blending and melding genres at every turn. It may be Childish Gambino’s most ambitious album to date. However, it may take a few listens to fully click with fans.

The off-kilter approach is evident from the opening track. “H3@rt$ W3re M3@nt T0 F7¥” is a glitchy, bass-heavy banger with unhinged vocals from Gambino and Amaarae. It doesn’t follow a conventional song structure in the slightest, but it is compelling. The rest of the album is easier to listen to, though not significantly. “Steps Beach” is a gorgeous acoustic number that evokes Childish Gambino’s tropical attire on the album cover. A similar mood is evoked on “Real Love,” which could have been a hit for an indie pop band circa 2012. These palatable moments are broken up, however, by musical left turns. “Happy Survival” is a lush instrumental piece with a repeating mantra. “Got to Be,” meanwhile, is a techo nightmare with Uncle Luke samples. Gambino, regardless of where things go, is having fun challenging his fans.

Big Sean Drops Official Release Date For New Album Despite Leak

Bad week for Big Sean. The rapper decided to address his haters on a new freestyle, and wound get getting his album leaked as a result. A Kanye West fan interpreted Sean’s bars as a diss towards his favorite artist, and leaked most of Big Sean’s new tracks out of spite. The rapper has taken the leaks in stride, though. A day after the unfortunate incident, Sean dropped an official trailer for his new album, titled Better Me Than You. Fans were treated to cool visuals, a snippet of a song, and finally, a proper release date.

The album trailer sees the camera zoom in on Big Sean’s eye, only to reveal a world of color and trippy shapes. The instrumental that accompanies these visuals is similarly colorful, though the rapper isn’t spitting over it. The album’s official title is confirmed by a neon sign that appears at the very end of the trailer. Better Me Than You had been thrown around as a possible title previously. That being said, the aforementioned leak was released under the name Feelings and Random Thots. It’s safe to say Sean chose the better title. The rapper confirmed the release on Twitter, writing: “album August 9th.”

Big Sean’s Better Me Than You Will Drop August 9th

Big Sean spoke at length about the difficulty he had recording Better Me Than You. It’s his first album in four years, and it coincided with his decision to stop drinking. “I’ve been having a hard f*cking time,” he told fans via Instagram Live. Been in [the studio] trying to finish this album. I’m tired of overthinking… I stopped drinking in 2022 ’cause that sh*t was f*cking me up.” Despite the struggles he’s had, Big Sean maintains that the new album contains some of his “best music” to date. “It’s so many different sides of me,” he told viewers. “[This album] really represents what the f*ck I’ve been going through for these past couple of years.”

The leak could not have been easy for the rapper to deal with. The person who leaked the album claimed that Kanye West urged him to do it, but there’s nothing to substantiate these claims. Despite this display of pettiness, Big Sean is keeping a positive outlook. The internet is on his side, with many believing that he’s due to win after being overshadowed by the likes of Drake and Kendrick Lamar. The rapper actually addressed the leaks on Twitter, taking a light-hearted approach. He teased his upcoming single with The Alchemist, and joked about rushing the rollout to avoid more leaks. “Might as well start droppin, before they leak it all, got damn [crying-laughing emoji].”

The Weeknd Teases The Conclusion To His “After Hours” Trilogy With New Trailer

It’s fittingly poetic that one of the most monumental music careers of the past 15 years will seemingly begin with a trilogy and also end with a trilogy. Of course, we’re talking about The Weeknd’s highly anticipated follow-up to Dawn FM and After Hours, which will conclude not just this era of his journey, but also possibly his stage name. Moreover, the hype for this project just caught a fresh new wind thanks to his most recent social media post, which is a cinematic trailer showcasing the aesthetics and a sonic mashup of the aforementioned 2020s albums. The final part of the clip shows what seems to be a young version of Abel Tesfaye amid grass, with the message: “There are three chapters to this tale.”

Furthermore, fans think that The Weeknd will kick off his next album’s rollout into full gear now, especially thanks to a one-off show in São Paulo, Brazil on September 7. This also follows previous teases, such as a possible Apple collab, that have given vague but exciting hints about what’s to come. From what this new trailer indicates, perhaps this new version of the Canadian superstar will be his rebirth or reincarnation following the death (or purgatory) narrated on After Hours and Dawn FM. That’s just speculative, though, so we’ll have to see what the LP actually indicates.

The Weeknd Is Ready To Close His 2020s Trilogy

Elsewhere, though, The Weeknd has had a pretty notable 2024 without having to do much, as he’s a player in the Kendrick Lamar and Drake beef. His features on Future and Metro Boomin’s We (Still) Don’t Trust You album series this year seemingly contained a couple of 6ix God shots, and his appearance at Kendrick’s “Pop Out” also furthered this narrative. Still, Abel didn’t really become part of the whole narrative. It’s just wild that he was still a huge name this year despite not doing much to warrant this, but then again, that’s his massive artistry at work.

Meanwhile, speaking of Metro Boomin, we know that he will at least provide some production to The Weeknd’s next project. Given the conceptual and musical directions of After Hours and Dawn FM, this will likely be another highly ambitious affair. We don’t know whether it will be a sonic evolution or more of the same in this trilogy, but either way, we should be in for a treat. Let’s hope that he follows up this trailer with some more concrete news.
