ASAP Rocky Played “Don’t Be Dumb” For Tim Burton And Here’s What He Had To Say

ASAP Rocky says that he played his new album, Don’t Be Dumb, for Tim Burton, and the legendary director loved it. He discussed the project during an interview with Billboard, last week, explaining to the outlet that German expressionism was a key inspiration for it. “In this very moment, it’s very grim. That’s an abbreviation,” he said of his mindset. “It’s infusing German expressionism with ghetto futurism.”

From there, Rocky revealed that he tried to get Burton, whose work is also inspired by the movement, to handle the cover artwork, but it didn’t work out. Regardless, he was still able to meet up with him and play the final project. “I sat and I played the album for Tim Burton, and he was f–king with it heavy,” he said. “He was rocking his head and he’s like, ‘Wow! I didn’t know you made that kind of music!’”

Rocky also revealed that Don’t Be Dumb will see him delving into deeper topics than his previous works. In particular, he referenced a song called, “Shroom Cloud,” on which he tackles, “current affairs and world wars and, you know, the world dying and whatnot.” He added: “At times like this, only two types of people strive and survive. I’m not trying to sound like I’m glorifying wars, [but] I think artists and druggies, they make it through. I mean, what was the hippies doing? They was getting high at Woodstock and f–king and having a great time and having these hippie babies who subsequently had us.”

Elsewhere in his interview with Billboard, Rocky also discussed his relationship with Rihanna, who he labels the “perfect” partner. Don’t Be Dumb was originally slated for release on August 30, but it has since been delayed. Be on the lookout for further updates on ASAP Rocky and his upcoming album on HotNewHipHop.

DJ Scheme Teases Two New Posthumous Juice WRLD Albums

Juice WRLD has been gone since 2019, but his music continues to dazzle listeners. He was a wildly prolific artist, which is why there have been more posthumous releases that official releases during his lifetime. Juice WRLD had a lot of music he wanted to get out. It sounds like fans will get a chance to hear more of it soon. DJ Scheme, Juice’s longtime collaborator, dropped a bombshell announcement on Twitter on August 27. He made it known that two posthumous Juice WRLD albums are in the works.

DJ Scheme told fans that he’d recently been in touch with Lil Bibby. The latter is the founder of the A Grade label that Juice WRLD was part of during his lifetime. Scheme claimed that Lil Bibby gave him an update with regards to new Juice WRLD, and that two different projects would be hitting shelves soon. The first would be an album comprised of entirely new material. The second would be a greatest “leaks” to commemorate some of the unreleased tracks that fans have heard over the years. “I know I said this before,” DJ Scheme wrote. “Bibby told me there an album and then another project full of his ‘greatest leaks.’ Jus tryna keep y’all updated.”

Juice WRLD’s Estate Will Release Fan Favorite Leaks

Juice WRLD’s posthumous released have been well received by fans and critics. It seems like there is lots of care taken with the mastering process. Plus, the rapper left behind so much music that his estate haven’t had to resort to recycling verses. He even got a posthumous feature on an Eminem album. There has been some hiccups along the way, though. At the top of the month, producer Joshua Jaramillo sued the Juice WRLD estate over songwriting royalties. He claimed that he co-wrote the song “Girl of My Dreams” and was subsequently given the runaround when it came to residual pay.

There have been some accusations of exploitation on the part of the rapper’s estate. Especially with lead singles being released under the ghoulish title of “Already Dead.” That said, the estate claimed that Juice WRLD wanted his music to be heard and shared with the world. “There was nothing more [he] enjoyed more than delivering new music to his millions of fans around the world,” the statement read. “He left behind an astonishingly deep catalog of music that will ensure his fans will have new songs to listen to for years to come.”

Cash Cobain Interpolates A Pop Smoke Classic On “Act Like”

Cash Cobain, as we said recently, loves samples, interpolations, and the like. His brand-new record, PLAY CASH COBAIN, sees him continue to tweak and experiment with past and current records for his sexy drill soundscapes. One track that we feel Cash Cobain did the best with in terms of playing around with previous works is “act like”. We also wanted to take a more detailed dive into the track because this was one of the singles from the project. Thirdly, the song seems to be receiving a decent number of listens, and we can see why.

If you know some basic facts about Cash Cobain, you probably know that he’s from New York. It’s where he gets all of his stylistic influence from and its why he’s a major force in drill right now. With that mind, what makes “act like” so cool is that he’s paying homage to one of biggest voices (literally and figuratively) in this version of this subgenre even after his death. That would be the one and only Pop Smoke. Where Cash gives Mr. Woo his flowers is on the chorus. You can hear a slight change from Smoke’s chorus on “For the Night”. Additionally, the track features one of the more stripped back yet interesting instrumentals on the project, so we recommend you check it out below.

Juicy J Makes A Left Turn With Jazzy New Album “Ravenite Social Club”

Juicy J is a legend. He’s not, however, known for his versatility. He stays trippy, and has stayed trippy for most of his career. He makes hard-hitting Memphis anthems, whether he’s solo or with Three 6 Mafia. It is a feature and not a bug. That said, Juicy J threw us for a loop with his new album. Ravenite Social Club is as sophisticated and slick as its title and artwork would lead you to believe. The opening track, with its dramatic soul arrangements and sound effects, perfectly sets the stage. This is an expensive sounding album, and Juicy J is more than up to the task of matching the production behind the mic.

We start off a little bumpy with the second song, “The Higher Up’s.” The “corporate America” refrain is a genuinely bad hook, and the rest of the song isn’t good enough to overcome this formative flaw. Juicy J ventures into social commentary elsewhere on Ravenite Social Club, but it goes over much better on a song like “Don’t Go Out.” The highlights, though, tend to be the ones that blend the retro aesthetic with Juicy J’s melodic flows. “Everything All Good” and “Suicide Doors” are stone cold stunners, between the production and nimble wordplay that belies the rapper’s age. The latter is bolstered by a standout guest verse from Cordae. Ravenite Social Club could probably be a little bit shorter, but overall, it proves to be one of J’s best solo releases.

DJ Akademiks Calls Out DJ Hed For Shooting Down His Kendrick Lamar Album Report

DJ Akademiks went off on DJ Hed while live-streaming on Sunday night after the Kendrick Lamar associate shot down the reports that the iconic rapper is working on a new album. In doing so, Akademiks labeled himself the greatest journalist that Hed has ever seen and reaffirmed his previous report that a new project is in the works.

“I’m the greatest single journalist you’ve ever heard of,” Akademiks remarked. “I built a $20 million industry by doing this sh*t. I played Drake’s video and Drake had to ask me, ‘How’d you get it?’ When I tell you something came from or something I know when it comes to Kendrick or whatever– I don’t give a f*ck who Kendrick is, I don’t give a f*ck about none of these n****s. Akademiks is the greatest single journalist you’ve ever heard of. You could be f*cking Kendrick if I said it that’s what it is. Let me be clear: I don’t need to talk to the artists. How much sh*t did I break about Yung Miami? You think I ever talked to her? Nope.”

From there, he mentioned reporting on Drake, Lil Yachty, JAY-Z, and more. “DJ Hed you go ask Kendrick… you up under that n***as crotch, I’m big Ak… I made a million dollars with the n***as that work with Kendrick now, so what is DJ Hed talking about shut up n***a,” he added.

Afterward, Hed wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “Dot don’t really talk to nobody.. especially not Ak.” Be on the lookout for further updates on DJ Akademiks, DJ Hed, and Kendrick Lamar on HotNewHipHop.

DJ Hed Calls Cap On Kendrick Lamar Album Rumors

DJ Hed has shut down the rumors that Kendrick Lamar recently confirmed he’s at work on a new album. The story began when a user on social media shared alleged an text message with the iconic rapper, in which he remarked that a new album is “coming.” While the original post was taken down, the screenshot went viral on Sunday night, prompting Hed to respond.

In doing so, he quote-tweeted Kurrco’s coverage of the story with a cap emoji. In a follow-up post, he added: “Dot don’t really talk to nobody.. especially not Ak.” Despite debunking the screenshot, many fans still disagreed with Hed. “But that was his cousin hed, it’s different and dot follows him,” one wrote back. “It’s to many layers for him to fake that.” Another responded: “He don’t talk to his cousin? Cause that’s who put the info out there.”

As for why Hed brought up Akademiks, the live streamer warned that Lamar is cooking up new music, last week. “I’ve gotten some sources that tell me Kendrick – I don’t think it’s on some diss s**t. But I’ve heard that, you know, Kendrick is loading up,” he said. “I don’t know if that means an album, I don’t know if he’s finally going to start giving out the handouts of features that he probably promised them n***as who were Crip-walking and Blood-walking on that stage. I don’t know if it’s just going to be a loosie. Maybe it’s that track that was at the beginning of the ‘Not Like Us’ video.”

DJ Hed Speaks Out

Despite shutting down the validity of the new text messages, Hed recently remarked that he “wouldn’t be surprised” if Lamar drops a new project soon. “I guess so, I mean I don’t know you tell me,” DJ Hed said back in June while speaking with Bootleg Kev. “I wouldn’t be surprised if we got something soon, but I don’t know. That’s not me, I don’t know for sure.” Be on the lookout for further updates on Kendrick Lamar on HotNewHipHop.

Kendrick Lamar’s Alleged Album Confirmation Sparks Chaos On Social Media

Kendrick Lamar has possibly confirmed that he is working on a new album, after an apparent text message conversation between himself and someone else went viral on social media, Sunday afternoon. In a screenshot of the alleged back and forth, the person asks Lamar, “But aye. Is the album coming or is you just on demon?” with several laughing emojis. Lamar simply responds: “We coming.” While the account that originally posted the message has since taken it down, several other users have been sharing it online.

Fans have been expressing their excitement following the rumors in response. “He’s about to put all the beef bullsh*t behind him and give us a solid album,” one user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote. “Kindly go back to your jazz infuse beats and let’s eat.” Others were more skeptical of the validity of the report. “Doesn’t seem like something that would be leaked from Dot’s camp,” one fan noted. “Idk if he said this. I do believe he’s coming though.”

The latest rumors come after DJ Akademiks similarly warned that Lamar is cooking up new music, last week. “I’ve gotten some sources that tell me Kendrick – I don’t think it’s on some diss s**t. But I’ve heard that, you know, Kendrick is loading up,” he said during a livestream. “I don’t know if that means an album, I don’t know if he’s finally going to start giving out the handouts of features that he probably promised them n***as who were Crip-walking and Blood-walking on that stage. I don’t know if it’s just going to be a loosie. Maybe it’s that track that was at the beginning of the ‘Not Like Us’ video. But I was told… Kendrick is coming. So – and pause on that, by the way. That sounds wild.”

Heems Pays Tribute To His Mother “VEENA” On Second LP Of 2024

Heems has just laid out a truly personal collection of tracks onto his newest album, VEENA. For those who don’t know, the project pays homage to his mother of the same name. In fact, she even as some spoken word bits on the record, including on the opening title track. She labels Heems the “poet of Queens”. That’s a very accurate description of her son, given how often his bars leave listeners with a lot to chew on, theoretically speaking. Besides showing love to the woman who brought him into this world, there’s a whole lot of other important and equally harrowing topics at hand.

“MANTO”, one of the four singles to VEENA, hears Heems talk openly about addiction, depression, and more. “I ask my dad why my grandma’s so quiet / I ask my mom why my grandma’s not smiling / I ask my therapist why I’m always wilding“. However, through all of this, you can tell that he’s got some hope for himself on songs like “RATATOUILLE”. “Life is beautiful I’m looking at flowers / I’m feeling like I got superpowers“. All in all, it’s a deep and intense listen, and definitely one of the best underground releases of 2024. This is also Heems’ second LP of the year, as it follows LAFANDAR, which ended a nine-year drought.

PlayThatBoiZay’s New Album “VIP” Is Pure Delirium

PlayThatBoiZay, outside of some spot features and loose singles, has been quite inactive. However, there is a gut-wrenching/valid reason as to why that’s been the case. According to Clash Music, the Florida product nearly lost his life in 2021 due to a car accident in 2021. It was so serious that he was “unable to walk and in a state of amnesia for months”. It wouldn’t be until about June 2022 that PlayThatBoiZay would be able to return to his “normal” life. He was an opener for fellow Loma Vista Recordings label mate Denzel Curry when he was touring Melt My Eyez See Your Future. Also during that slow reintegration period, PlayThatBoiZay would go back to work on the album that now sits in front of us this weekend, VIP.

Knowing that, it’s clear that he’s been through a lot just to get to this point, physically and mentally. It’s why Zay wrote on IG recently, “I been through so much and I’ve never let my problems define me. I always put myself first. That’s what ‘VIP’ is about. It’s the acknowledgement that your existence is important and putting yourself first without anyone’s approval”. That valid “selfishness” is very prevalent all over the trim 14-track, 32-minute offering both in the performance and instrumental department. The mix of industrial, trap metal, rage, and touch of horrorcore are something that he’s been doing for years now.

There are going to be some who say that he’s ripping off JPEGMAFIA and Denzel Curry to some extent. We would argue he’s utilizing his mentors’ advice to make something that is still his own. It sort of plays Mischievous South but somehow even dirtier and more aggressive. Like Zay said, “I’ve never let my problems define me”. While he was dealing with a lot, he used all of this time to push through, which allowed him to create his best work yet.

Drake Treats Fans To “No Face,” “Circadian Rhythm” And “Supersoak”

Drake knows how to keep the fans fed. The Toronto rapper has dropped three brand new songs, “No Face,” “Circadian Rhythm” and “Supersoak.” It feels like he’s trying to figure out a model for dropping loosie songs, the way he used to on SoundCloud. It’s the second time the 6 God has done this, and we have to admit, the new batch is better. The three songs Drake put out on August 23 display more range and versatility. At the end of the day, Drizzy’s strength lies in his ability to do more things than most of the competition. “No Face” is a chance for Drake to get some combative bars off with Playboi Carti. It definitely is a Carti song, first and foremost, but the veteran rapper acclimates well.

“Circadian Rhythm” is a Drake throwback, which is to say, it’s a catchy sequel to a song from 2013. He drops more subliminal bars. Some of them are seemingly aimed at Kendrick Lamar, some aren’t. It’s a solid showcase with a deceptively catchy instrumental. Then there’s “Supersoak,” which is the obvious hit from the bunch. The earworm beat, a very catchy Drake flow on the verses, and a chorus that calls back to another rap classic. It’ll be interesting to see if and when the songs end up on streaming. As of right now, Drake has only made them available on his Instagram burner.

Let us know what you think of this brand-new track, in the comments section down below. Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the music world. We will continue to keep you informed on all of your favorite artists and their upcoming projects.
