Naomi Sharon Goes Viral After Fans Realize She’s Signed To Drake

Naomi Sharon arrived on the scene in 2019, and immediately drew comparisons to Sade. Not only in terms of her production choices and lovesick subject matter, but her sultry vocals. “Breeze” and “The Moon” were chilled-out singles that split the difference between pop and R&B. Sharon hasn’t broken through the way that peers like Jorja Smith and Snoh Aalegra have, but she drew lots of attention on social media recently. It wasn’t to discuss her music so much as her label situation. Despite not being considered a household name, Sharon is signed to one of the biggest artists in the world: Drake.

Not only is Naomi Sharon the first female artist signed to OVO Sound, she’s the only one. She’s the first lady of the label, as evidenced by her debut album, Obsidian. The thing that caught most fans off guard was the fact that Drake has rarely discussed Sharon or her music publicly. He signed her to the label in 2023 but the two have never collaborated. For an artist like Drake, who has a track record of working with singers in Sharon’s style, this was odd.

Naomi Sharon Has Never Collaborated With Drake

Fans took to the Instagram comment section to voice their confusion over Drake’s decision to promote artists outside of his label. “Why would he promote [Sexxy] Red and not his own artist,” one user asked. Another accused Drake of always putting his own music first, and failing to do the legwork to make sure his OVO artists get the exposure they need to pop. “If y’all learned nothing Drake don’t do the foot work for his artist,” they reasoned. “He makes them get it out the mud and uses them for his own albums and needs.”

Naomi Sharon talked about working with OVO during an interview with NME. She noted that they have a very “easy going” atmosphere in the studio, but that she had to request a goal so that she knew what to aim for in terms of song amount and due date. “I was like, ‘No, I need a goal,’” she said. “I was planning to go to Toronto for three weeks to record a little bit… We ended up in the studio making a song every day, which is very special.” While the working process may have been tricky, Sharon did state that her label boss has been helpful as a mentor. “Drake is one example of being an icon and doing the right things with music,” she told Clash. “He gives good advice.”

Hopefully this recent attention will lead to Sharon and Drake linking up on a song.

Naomi Sharon Is Madly In Love On “Nothing Sweeter”

Drake knows how to seek some talent for his music label OVO. For example, you have Naomi Sharon. She has not been around that long, but she is quickly making a name for herself. The Dutch R&B/Soul singer has been in the business for about four years now and has a scant catalog. She has one full project to her credit with Obsidian back in October of 2023. It featured 13 tracks with standouts such as “Definition of Love,” “Time And Trust,” “Push,” and “Regardless.”

Naomi is back now with her first single since August with “Nothing Sweeter.” One of the more recent occasions we talked about her was on a collaboration with fellow OVO signees Majid Jordan. They combined their singing and production talents on “Waiting For You,” which made it onto Majid’s new record Good People. On “Nothing Sweeter,” Naomi writes a tale about a man she has fallen deeply in love with.

People fall in love with the idea of someone a lot. However, for her, she is under a spell with everything about this person. Naomi feels that this person is the one. “No darkness we can’t bear / There’s only light / Nothing to fight when you are here.” There is no news if this is starting a rollout for a follow-up record, but hopefully, that is the case.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “Nothing Sweeter,” by Naomi Sharon? Is this one of the better songs she has ever put out? Will she drop an album this year? You flow through me, movin’ me (Mm-hmm)
I see no walls, I fear no more
There is no place we can’t go
Swimmin’ in your presence
We got so far away from the surface
I ain’t never been so deep

Naomi Sharon Unveils New Single "Nothing Sweeter"

Naomi Sharon is captivating music enthusiasts once again with the release of her latest single, “Nothing Sweeter.”

Following the success of her debut album, Obsidian, this highly anticipated track is a compelling addition to Naomi Sharon’s impressive discography, marking a bold start to 2024.

“Nothing Sweeter” showcases Naomi Sharon’s versatility as an artist, blending soulful vocals with contemporary elements to create a timeless yet modern soundscape. The track is a testament to her unique musical artistry, placing her distinctive voice in a stripped-back offering highlighting her exceptional vocal ability.

“‘Nothing Sweeter’”‘ is a vulnerable song that captures the fragility of falling in love,” Sharon said. “There’s an indescribable magic in the first kiss with the one you love. Regardless of what follows, that initial kiss remains unmatched and unforgettable.

Coming on the heels of the acclaimed debut album Obsidian, “Nothing Sweeter” affirms Naomi Sharon’s commitment to emotive storytelling and genre-defying sound, further establishing her presence in the music scene.

Drake’s New Artist Naomi Sharon Makes A Stunning Debut With “Another Life”

The roster of artists over at OVO Sound has always been impressive, with names like PARTYNEXTDOOR, dvsn, and Smiley leading the pack. Previously, the label boasted only male talent, but earlier this weekend, Drake announced the exciting news of his first female signee – Naomi Sharon.

To celebrate her new partnership with his renowned brand, the Canadian rapper gave the R&B starlet a shoutout on Instagram. “I been waiting for this day for too long now,” he began.

“Where the world finally gets to digest the insane amount of work you have put in since we met. My dear friend just dropped her single ‘Another Life’ on OVO SOUND.”

Along with the aforementioned track, Sharon has also shared “Celestial” and its accompanying lyric video. On social media, she’s teased that an official visual will be arriving in the near future.

Both songs feature production by Noah “40” Shebib. The former found him working alongside Alex Lustig, Beau Nox, and Rampa while the latter was a solo effort on his part.

Earning a co-sign from Drake is no small feat, and Sharon’s talent obviously speaks for itself. The last prominent female star to get a shoutout from the father of one, Ice Spice, has only continued to rise in popularity since linking up with the rapper.

On Sunday (January 22), the black-haired beauty wrote a message on Instagram thanking listeners for their “sweet messages and positive reactions.”

“The two songs mean a lot to me, and I cannot wait to share more,” she added. “Only way is up.”
