Why Did Kendrick Lamar Call Out Drake For Tupac’s Ring At ‘The Pop Out’?

Kendrick Lamar’s The Pop Out — Ken & Friends Juneteenth concert — at Kia Forum in Inglewood, California on Wednesday night, June 19 — was bookended by Lamar reasserting his deep hatred for Drake. Lamar began his set with “Euphoria,” and his instantly iconic finale involved running through “Not Like Us” five times (six, if you count the instrumental as he left the stage) — both live debuts of his Drake diss tracks.

Fans noticed something different about “Euphoria,” as explained below.

Why Did Kendrick Lamar Call Out Drake For Tupac’s Ring At The Pop Out?

While performing “Euphoria” live for the first time, Lamar added a bar: “Give me Tupac’s ring back, and I might give you a lil respect.”

Last July, Drake bought a custom ring formerly belonging to the late Tupac Shakur at an auction. USA Today reported at the time that Drake dropped more than $1 million for the ring, which Sotheby’s described in a press release as “an exceedingly rare piece of Tupac’s signature aesthetic and a slice of hip-hop history” while confirming that Drake was the purchaser “after Shakur’s grandmother and lifelong supporter, Yaasmyn Fula, put it up for auction.”

Seeing as Tupac was a cornerstone for West Coast rap — Lamar has since taken on the mantle — and Drake has absolutely no allies within Los Angeles rap, it makes sense that Drake owning anything related to Tupac doesn’t sit well with Lamar.

Tangentially related, Lamar name-checked Tupac twice (“You think the Bay gon’ let you disrespect ‘Pac, n****?” & “Yeah, it’s all eyes on me, and I’ma send it up to ‘Pac”) in “Not Like Us” after Drake used AI-generated voices of Tupac and Snoop Dogg on “Taylor Made Freestyle,” one of his Kendrick diss tracks from April. Drake took a massive L on that — deleting it from social media after Tupac’s estate threatened legal action.

North West Had A Blast At Kendrick Lamar’s “Pop Out” Concert

North West has been around a lot of music over the years thanks to her father, Kanye West. Overall, she has expressed an interest in making songs of her own. In fact, she was on the album Vultures with the song, “Talking.” Ultimately, this was a great introduction to the music world. That said, North West got a true education in West Coast rap last night as she was present at “The Pop Out.” Kendrick Lamar’s concert is still on our minds today, and we’re sure it left an impression on North.

As you can see in the tweet down below, North was in the stands, but near the guard rail, which was easily one of the best seats in the house. She got a perfect view of the stage, where numerous incredible artists popped out. During DJ Hed’s set, we got numerous young West Coast artists. Meanwhile, Mustard came out to give us some of his biggest hits. From there, Kendrick came out and he brought the house down with a five-time performance of “Not Like Us.”

Even Kanye’s collaborator Ty Dolla Sign was in attendance. There were some fans hoping to see Kanye there, but he was in Paris for Fashion Week with his wife. Regardless, it was a truly incredible occasion and we’re sure fans are going to remember it for the rest of their lives. Perhaps this will inspire other artists to hold these kinds of concerts in their own city. If last night proved anything, it’s that fans are clamoring for it.

Let us know what you thought of “The Pop Out,” in the comments section down below. Did the concert live up to all of your expectations? What do you think about songs Kendrick chose to perform? Were you happy with all of his guests? Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the music world. Travis Scott Debuts Mugshot Merch And Skips Town After Miami Arrest

Earlier today, Travis Scott was arrested and booked for trespassing and disorderly intoxication. He was brought to the Miami-Dade County Jail and released just hours later. At the time of writing, the circumstances leading up to the arrest remain murky, but he’s believed to have gotten into an alleged argument on a yacht. Reportedly, police arrived on the scene and got him to leave, but after a short time, he circled back. This is when he was handcuffed and taken to jail. Regardless, he appears to be in good spirits. Just after his release, he broke his silence with a simple Tweet. “Lol,” he wrote, leaving his followers with several questions.

He didn’t waste any time capitalizing on the unexpected incident either. Recently, he unveiled new merch featuring his unbothered mugshot. In it, he’s seen wearing a big smile as if nothing ever happened. The merch in question is a simple brown t-shirt, and sports the phrase “It’s Miami.” Magic City might be getting a shoutout on the artist’s new merch, but he didn’t stick around for long after his arrest.

Travis Scott Makes The Most Of His Recent Arrest

Today, he was spotted getting on his private jet in an exclusive zone at the airport. TMZ captured photos of him boarding, and again, he looked relatively unfazed by all of the yacht drama that’s just unfolded. Reportedly, they took off at about 2 p.m. ET, despite planning to head out much earlier this morning.

This isn’t the first time Travis has found himself at odds with the law, as he’s been arrested before and faced a lawsuit for the Astroworld crowd crush of 2021. Luckily, he doesn’t appear to be taking his latest run-in too seriously, so it’s not likely to cause him too much trouble. What do you think of Travis Scott getting arrested this morning for alleged trespassing and disorderly intoxication? Will you be copping his new mugshot merch or not? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

Tyler, the Creator Cancels Both Headlining Sets at Lollapalooza and Outside Lands

Screen Shot 2024 06 20 at 10.37.34 AM

In surprising news during the busy concert and festival season, Tyler, the Creator just canceled his headlining performances at this year’s Lollapalooza and Outside Lands music festivals. He announced the decision on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “i hate saying this but i have to cancel lollapalooza and outside lands. i made a commitment that i can no longer keep, and that bums me out knowing how excited folks were. that is not sexy at all. please please forgive me or call me names when you see me in person. love.”

Recently, Lollapalooza quickly replaced Tyler with Megan Thee Stallion, while Outside Lands announced Sabrina Carpenter as his replacement on X. Tyler was scheduled to headline the first night of Lollapalooza alongside Hozier and was listed above the Killers, Sturgill Simpson, and the Postal Service for Outside Lands.

Lollapalooza will take place from August 1-4 at Chicago’s Grant Park, and Outside Lands will be held from August 9-11 at San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park.

Going back in time, Tyler last headlined these festivals in 2021, promoting his album “Call Me if You Get Lost.” In April, he headlined Coachella shortly after releasing the expanded “Call Me if You Get Lost: The Estate Sale.” During his Coachella performance, he featured Childish Gambino, A$AP Rocky, Charlie Wilson, and Kali Uchis.

Variety’s Steven J. Horowitz reported and praised Tyler’s Coachella set, noting, “Tyler is a master conceptualizer, and knows how to toy with the various frequencies of his stage, dimming the lights for reflective moments and dancing around shooting flames during more electrified songs. But beyond all the bells and whistles of the production, Tyler controls the spotlight. It’s impossible to take your eyes off of him, and throughout the 80-minute closing set of the day, the energy — of both Tyler and the audience — never waned, even when he took a few moments to pause and collect himself between songs (or, at one point, to eat a sandwich while sitting in front of a green tent midway through ‘IFHY’).”

Wonder who will take his place at both huge festivals. Who do you want to see?

Ric Wilson Declares ‘We Aight’ On His Latest Disco-Inspired Single Featuring Mayer Hawthorne

If you’ve been feeling a bit of a funk deficiency lately, have no fear. Ric Wilson is back on the scene with a new song, “We Aight,” bringing with him one of modern funk’s most stalwart sources, Mayer Hawthorne. Here, they team up with dance production duos Party Pupils and Brasstracks for a colorful, horn-filled nu-disco beat, perfect for Wilson to waltz over with his whimsical delivery and Hawthorne’s warm vocals. In the press release, Ric says, “Being fans of funk and wanting to make a record that feels like a Chicago or Detroit house party, me and Mayer channeled our memories from hometown house parties to make a new legendary house party record. I’m excited for folks to hear the rest of the album later this year.”

Ric is just over a year removed from his last release, the Clusterfunk EP, which was produced by family connection A-Trak and Chromeo. Since then, the Chicago native has been bouncing around, doing performances at festivals and overseas as he works on his next album. Mayer Hawthorne, meanwhile, released his tenth studio album, For All Time, last October, yielding more of a slinky, ’70s inspired collection of bedroom bops.

Kendrick Lamar’s Juneteenth Pop Out concert proved to be a uniting moment for Los Angeles’ rap scene (and some of its local NBA stars) as swarms of local rappers including Kendrick’s own Black Hippy crew joined him onstage to perform some of their most iconic hits. Unfortunately, two of the city’s biggest pillars weren’t in attendance; Kendrick took time during his set to talk about the absence of rap mainstay Nipsey Hussle and NBA legend Kobe Bryant.

“This sh*t making me emotional,” he admitted. “We been f*cked up since Nipsey died. We been f*cked up since Kobe died… This is unity at its finest. We done lost a lot of homies to this music sh*t, to this street sh*t. For all of us to be together on stage, that sh*t is special.”

The slew of LA stars who appeared throughout the evening included rising stars like 310babii, AzChike, Bino Rideaux, BlueBucksClan, Kalan.FrFr, Rucci, OhGeesy, Ray Vaughn, Remble, Wallie The Sensei, and Zoe Osama, as well as veterans such as Blxst, Dom Kennedy, Jason Martin, RJMrLA, Roddy Ricch, Steve Lacy, Tyler The Creator, Westside Boogie, and YG. Dr. Dre, whose co-sign initially boosted Kendrick to superstardom, also appeared, while Kendrick and the assembled rappers teamed up to perform the Drake diss anthem “Not Like Us” five times in a row.

Ty Dolla Sign Delivers Massive “Vultures 2” Update

Ty Dolla Sign has been working with Kanye West as of late. Overall, their first collaborative album together was Vultures. They had worked together in the past, but Vultures served as their largest undertaking yet. On March 8th, they were supposed to drop off Vultures 2, however, the album never came. Then, it was said that the project would actually come out in May. In the end, that turned out to not be the case. Once again, fans were bamboozled.

Last night, Ty Dolla Sign was at “The Pop Out” in Inglewood. It was an amazing night for hip-hop, and Ty got to perform. However, there were some fans who wanted to know about Vultures 2. Well, they actually got an update of sorts. According to the NFR Podcast, Ty Dolla Sign said “The album is almost done and could be released any day now.” When it comes to Kanye West, we have heard this plenty of times before. At this point, this kind of statement is fairly hard to believe.

Ty Dolla Sign Drops A Bombshell

In addition to Vultures 2, there is supposed to also be a Vultures 3. However, based on how things have gone, that third installment could be years away. Ye is someone who works on his own timeframes, and he can be a perfectionist. This combination leads to a lot of delayed albums, and millions of disappointed fans. Perhaps this time around, Kanye will surprise us all.

Let us know what you think about this update, in the comments section down below. Do you believe that Vultures 2 is actually going to be released soon? Or do you think that it may just end up getting scrapped in the near future? Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the music world. Kendrick Lamar Brings Crips & Bloods Together On Stage While Remembering Nipsey Hussle & Kobe Bryant

Kendrick Lamar was able to act on multiple narratives with “The Pop Out” show last night (Wednesday, Juneteenth) in Los Angeles, all of which provided very special moments. Of course, it served as a final nail in the coffin in his Drake beef, but folks will likely remember the show throughout history for much more heartening reasons. One of these is the massive heap of West Coast artists that came out to perform, and the other was how moving it was to see members of various Los Angeles gangs, namely Bloods and Crips, sharing the stage in peace and calling for an end to violence between them. In addition to this display, K.Dot also spoke on the loss of Nipsey Hussle and Kobe Bryant, and how this moment is also for them and all the other unnamed lives lost in these struggles.

“This s**t making me emotional,” Kendrick Lamar remarked after a performance that followed, among many other parts of Mustard’s set, a tribute to Nip. “We been f***ed up since Nipsey died. We been f***ed up since Kobe died. This is unity at its finest. We done lost a lot of homies to this music s**t, to this street s**t. For all of us to be together on stage, that s**t is special. Everybody on this stage got fallen soldiers.” This falls alongside Mr. Morale’s previous statements on gang unity and how he advocated for that within his art.

Kendrick Lamar Speaks On Nipsey Hussle & Kobe Bryant

Whether or not Los Angeles gang culture responds in kind remains to be seen, but let’s bask in the moment and appreciate the message. After all, Kendrick Lamar is not our savior, and there were some notable exclusions from this “Pop Out” that indicate that, at least on a music industry level, there’s still some unity to achieve. The Game pledged his support for Drake in many’s eyes through his social media and his Rick Ross diss. As such, this prompted a lot of speculation online about what could be going on behind the scenes.

Meanwhile, other special appearances in “The Pop Out” crowd included a SZA, who donned a disguise to party with the people. Even if this was born out of a feud, it’s still great to see Kendrick Lamar take advantage of the opportunity to speak to something greater. It clearly resonated with a lot of fans and viewers outside of the West Coast, as well. We don’t always get the luxury of these unitary moments, so witnessing them is a true privilege and a hopeful declaration.

03 Greedo Clarifies Why He Wasn’t At Kendrick Lamar’s “Pop Out” Show

03 Greedo is a West Coast artist who is absolutely beloved by fans. Overall, he has a knack for catchy tracks, and he has made some truly memorable albums over the years. If you are from Los Angeles, you are certainly acquainted with Greedo and his music. Having said that, fans were very hopeful to see Greedo at Kendrick Lamar’s “The Pop Out.” Unfortunately, the night went by without a single sign of Greedo. This led to questions on social media, with some assuming he was just left out.

Thankfully, Greedo came out and addressed those fans wondering about his absence. They will certainly be happy to know that 03 Greedo was not snubbed at all. In fact, he was inviting, but due to scheduling, it just didn’t work out. “I fucc w dot i was invited but i couldn’t make it,” Greedo stated on Twitter. At the end of the day, you can’t be everywhere all at once. Plenty of artists who were expected to be at the show didn’t make it. For instance, Kanye West and Future seemed to have other engagements.

03 Greedo Speaks

Had 03 Greedo been there, the true West Coast fans would have turned up. Thankfully, they were still greeted to a plethora of other amazing artists. DJ Hed’s set was a true homage to the West Coast, and we are thankful to have witnessed it. Hopefully, Kendrick will do it again in the future and bring out all of the amazing artists who unfortunately couldn’t make it last night.

Let us know what you thought of “The Pop Out,” in the comments section down below. Do you believe that 03 Greedo should have been there? Of all of the West Coast artists on stage, which was your favorite? Do you think Kendrick will ever do one of these again? SZA Looked Unrecognizable At Kendrick Lamar’s “Pop Out” Show

Even though he’s no longer on the label, Kendrick Lamar’s “Pop Out” concert on Juneteenth in Los Angeles was still very much a TDE affair. Black Hippy treated fans to a long-awaited reunion, and SZA donned a convincing disguise to attend the show in peace and turn up with the rest of the crowd. Moreover, new clips emerges on social media of the St. Louis superstar posing for the camera while showing off her fit, which included a cloth wrapped around her head, baggy jeans, and a green shirt. Also, some footage shows her in the crowd during the show itself, and we can only assume she had a great time.

Furthermore, it seems almost corny to tie everything about “The Pop Out” to the Kendrick Lamar and Drake beef, but… I mean, the madman opened with “Euphoria.” As such, SZA’s appearance can’t help but evoke a particular line on Drizzy’s “Push Ups” for many fans, in which he says that she “wipes down” K.Dot. This mention was also notable due to her collaborations with the Toronto superstar last year, and their previous romantic relationship. However, the “Doves In The Wind” singer made it clear via an Instagram Story that she wanted no part in that feud, and it looks like now she’s the one sliming Aubrey out.

SZA Pops Out At The Kendrick Lamar Show

Jokes aside, SZA’s also got a lot more stuff to focus on and spend her energies living with, such as her Songwriters Hall Of Fame honors. “As an artist, I’ve been a lot of different people,” she said of her Hal David Starlight award. “I’ve been 200 pounds; I’ve been 130 pounds. I’ve been someone who doesn’t dance at all on stage… to someone who is dancing and trying their best and I think, ‘Oh man, I struggle with the artist thing,’ but writing was where I felt like a person, and I had value and showed that I was smart.

“It was beyond ‘Am I pretty?’” SZA continued. “‘Am I liked?’ And that meant everything to me. It made me feel like a person that was doing something worth something. Basically, receiving this award validates my entire career… Thank you for seeing me.” We might not have seen you this time, Solana (at least, not immediately), but no matter what disguise you don, your talents shine through.
