Damson Idris & Lori Harvey Wish Fans A Happy Easter After He Lands Movie Role Opposite Brad Pitt

Damson Idris’ most notable project to date (aside from his ongoing romance with Lori Harvey) would have to be his work on FX’s Snowfall. Aside from taking on the role of Franklin Saint, he also made waves with his appearance in Donald Glover’s Swarm. Though it was short-lived, his steamy sex scene with Chloe Bailey certainly kept the English actor fresh in viewer’s finds. Now, to top all of that, Idris has more celebrating to do with the announcement of his casting opposite Brad Pitt in an upcoming original film from Apple.

The news came on Friday (April 7), via Deadline. Joseph Kosinski will be directing, and Idris will reportedly play the role of a race car driver in the F1-oriented story. It’s been said that dozens of actors were considered for the coveted part, but ultimately, the 31-year-old won producers over with his charm. “The untitled feature follows Pitt as a racer who comes out of retirement to mentor a younger driver and take his final stab at glory on the track as the younger driver’s teammate,” the outlet reports. Not only are fans of Idris celebrating the big news, but his girlfriend made sure to give the actor his flowers too.

Damson Idris’ Career Continues to Soar

Reposting an announcement from The Hollywood Reporter on her Instagram Story this weekend, Harvey praised her man with a simple but effective “!!!!!!!” Seeing as the two are currently on the baecation of their dreams together, it’s likely she was able to shower him with much more praise during their time soaking up the sun together. Following that, the model also shared a sweet selfie with her man, showing them both sun-kissed and smiling in the tropics.

“Happy Easter 🤍,” she wrote in small white font near the bottom of the screen. While some haters previously claimed that Lori Harvey and Damson Idris were lacking chemistry during their red carpet debut, the couple has been proving the opposite to be true in recent weeks. See more photos from their ongoing vacation here, and make sure to check back later for more pop culture news updates.

Chris Pratt Says His Original Mario Voice Sounded Too Much Like Tony Soprano

Chris Pratt says that the original voice he tried to use as the titular character in the new film, The Super Mario Bros., sounded too much like Tony Soprano. The directors, Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, told him he had to switch it up as to not sound like he was copying James Gandolfini’s character in the iconic HBO series.

“For a minute, I walked in and they were like, ‘That’s a little New Jersey. You’re doing a Tony Soprano thing,’” Pratt said during a new interview with Entertainment Weekly. “[The voice] was a really exciting and daunting challenge. Talking to these guys, they say, ‘You wanna do the Mario movie?’ I think both [Charlie Day and I] said yes. Didn’t even ask, ‘What’s the deal? What’s the story?’ ‘Yes, I’m in.’ And then we had to really dig in and figure out…are they Italian? Are they American?”

Pratt added: “We know a little bit about Charles Martinet’s voice that he’s sprinkled in there with the ‘Wahoo!’ and ‘It’s-a me!’ and these Mario things, but how do you craft a 90-minute narrative with an emotional through-line and create a living, breathing person about who you’ll care?” Pratt’s costar, Charlie Day, who voices Luigi, added: “We tried different things, different voices. Every now and then they would say, ‘Charlie, maybe a little less ‘Goodfellas’ in this one’ — I’m like, ‘Alright! I think you’re wrong, but fine!’ — until they landed on something they liked.”

The casting of Pratt in the lead role originally received backlash as he is not actually Italian. Horvath defended the decision to Total Film magazine, last month. He argued: “For us, it made total sense. [Chris is] really good at playing a blue-collar hero with a ton of heart. For the way that Mario is characterized in our film, he’s perfect for it.”

Seth Rogen Calls Live-Action Super Mario One Of The “Worst Films Ever Made”

Seth Rogen has enjoyed a successful run for the past 20 years. He appeared in his first film,  Donnie Darko, in 2001. That movie was followed by a supporting role in the critically acclaimed The 40-Year-Old Virgin. These led to starring jobs in 2007’s Knocked Up, and 2009’s Funny People.  Now, the comedian is tackling the voice of Donkey Kong in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. However, he has some critiques about the original 1993 live-action film.

In a recent interview with Variety, he shared how he looked forward to seeing the movie thirty years ago. Unfortunately, the experience was not a pleasant one. In fact, Rogen said the film was likely the worst he’ll ever see. “I was so excited,” he told the publication before dropping a bombshell. “It’s one of the worst films ever made. I was so disappointed.” He explained that this movie was the first time he realized that lousy cinema could exist.

Seth Rogen Is Sure The New Super Mario Is Better

Rogen feels his role will “vindicate that moment” for fellow 11-year-olds who turn out to see this latest adaptation. He promises they will be satisfied with the Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic-directed new version. Rogen previously told The Hollywood Reporter that the plot also drove him to join the cast. He found humor in Donkey Kong and Super Mario being rivals. The 40-year-old found comfort in knowing he didn’t have to change his voice much to be effective. Chris Pratt voices Mario, while Charlie Day takes on Luigi. Famed comedian Jack Black brings Bowser to life, and Anya Taylor-Joy takes on the pink royal character Princess Peach.

In that 1993 live-action version, director Rocky Morton caught flack for Nintendo’s lack of involvement in the project. While that wasn’t completely Morton’s fault, everyone didn’t receive the story well. The plot surrounded Mario and Luigi, played by Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo, respectively, as they relentlessly tried to stop King Koopa from bringing his dinosaurs to the planet. Since then, there have not been any more live-action adaptations of the film, which is surprising considering many older animated films are getting the live treatment. The Super Mario Bros. Movie arrived in theaters on Wednesday.

Jason Mamoa “Minecraft” Movie Roasted by Twitter

Video game adaptions are all the rage right now. HBO cashed in with an incredibly well-received The Last of Us series. Meanwhile, early fan reaction to The Super Mario Bros. Movie has been overwhelmingly positive. The genre has come a long way since the days of box office bombs, which used to dominate video game adaptations. 2005’s Alone In The Dark holds a 1% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Even recent outings such as 2015’s Hitman Agent 47 and 2012’s Silent Hill: Revelations hold an 8% rating.

There are plenty more video game adaptations currently in the works. Horror franchise Five Nights at Freddy’s recently entered into production under the Blumhouse label. Halo, The Witcher, and League of Legends’ Arcane all have new TV seasons expected in the next two years. Beyond these confirmed projects, there are rumored productions for everything from long-running series Yakuza to indie darlings like Firewatch. However, some of the confirmed projects are more unusual than others.

Jason Mamoa Headlines 2025 Minecraft Movie

Minecraft is an immensely popular sandbox exploration and crafting game beloved by millions. It doesn’t have a story that players follow, which is a major aspect of the game’s appeal. Players are able to build whatever they like, and the only limits on the plot are their imagination. Despite this, and perhaps building on the success of similar concepts such as The Lego Movie, Minecraft will receive a live-action film adaptation in 2025.

While details about the film are scarce, what we do currently know reads like a fever dream. The film is currently set to star Jason Mamoa, of Aquaman fame, and will be directed by Jared Hess, best known for films such as Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre. Hess’ Masterminds co-creators Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer, as well as Minecraft‘s controversial original creator, Markus “Notch” Persson, are slated to write the film. The announcement was met with overwhelming mockery on social media. Fans and outside observers alike were confused, angered, and tickled by the news. Perhaps fan opinion will change as more details are revealed by it’s safe to say that this is not the reaction the creators would have been hoping for.

Jack Harlow Set To Star In New Apple Original Film

Jack Harlow has already established himself as a multitalented entertainer. The Kentucky native first hit the scene in 2020 with the release of his platinum-selling debut album “That’s What The All Say.” Harlow quickly established himself as a superstar in the music industry. However, his focus recently has shifted more to the world of acting. Harlow already has wrapped up filming on the remake of the 1992 classic White Men Can’t Jump. That project is set to hit theaters next month. However, the “What’s Poppin” artist already has another acting role lined up.

Deadline reports that Harlow will be joining the cast of the Apple Original Film, The Instigators. He joins an ensemble cast that includes Hollywood A-listers Matt Damon and Casey Affleck. Other industry mainstays set to star in the film include Ving Rhames, Hong Chau, Paul Walter Hauser, Ron Perlman, Alfred Molina and Michael Stuhlbarg. The project is being directed by Doug Liman. The film will depict two thieves who go on the run with the help of a therapist following a botched robbery.

Another Triumph For Harlow

For Harlow, the project represents just the latest chapter in an already stellar career. He has already racked up six Grammy nominations. He has amounted an incredible 10 billion streams. In 2021, he earned his first number one single with the track “Industry Baby” alongside Lil Nas X. His second number one was his smash hit “First Class.” That song is also hugely popular on TikTok, where it has become one of the most used sounds in the app’s history. Harlow showed off his acting chops again earlier this year he starred alongside Missy Elliot in a Dorito’s Super Bowl ad.

Harlow joins the likes of Ice Cube, Queen Latifah and Megan Thee Stallion as artists who have transitioned from music to acting. Time will tell if Harlow can live up to the quality of those performers. However, it would be wise not bet against him. Harlow has already gone from relative obscurity to superstardom in three years. There seems to be nothing stopping him from taking Hollywood by storm just like the music industry.

She posted the pictures with the caption “Kitchen counter selfies,” followed by a blue heart emoji. Her next tweet simply said, “goodnight.”

She had parts in TV shows like Grandfathered and The Oath. She has also been a host on popular shows like The Voice and MTV’s 90s House. Christina Milian’s career has been marked by her versatility, talent, and enduring success in multiple entertainment fields.

Milan’s Exes Can’t Stop Talking About Her

Christina Milian has had her share of famous exes and lovers. However, it seems that she’s settled down with Matt Pokora. The pair now have two children together. They welcomed their second child in mid-2021. “Thank you my @mattpokora for being the best partner/dad/ best friend a woman could ask for,” Milian wrote on Instagram. “You’re a king in my eyes.”

While Christina Milian seems to be settling down, her ex-lovers seem like they can’t stop talking about her. Recently, Nick Cannon said that he regretted not having children with her. The two were in a relationship from 2003-2005, but it ended after Milian found out that Cannon was cheating on her. “For like a month, I was reading messages,” she said about the incident. “I had time… I need to bust him in person so in the meantime, I’m going to get my intel, make sure this is for real for real and it was for real.”

First Mario Movie Reviews Drop, Twitter Reacts

For over a year, the internet has gone wild about The Super Mario Bros. Movie. With every announcement, the internet has found something to obsess over. Whether it was Chris Pratt’s Mario impression, the Japanese dub’s “sexy Mario”, or simply the mere existence of an animated Mario movie, the internet found something to talk about.

However, the wait is finally over and the film, starring Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Jack Black amongst a host of others, opened for general audiences on April 5. Along with fans being able to watch the film, review embargos were lifted, allowing the internet to see what early preview audiences thought. The result? According to Rotten Tomatoes, critics are fairly cool on the film while audiences love it. The exact numbers, at the time of writing, have the critics score at 53% on 111 reviews and the audience score at 98% on 100+ verified ratings.

Strong Showing For Mario Movie

While critics were never going to adore The Super Mario Bros. Movie, a 53% rating is a strong showing for a video game movie. It is especially strong considering that the infamous 1993 Super Mario Bros. sits at a critics rating of 29%. 53% puts the 2023 Mario Movie on par with the likes of 2018’s Tomb Raider and 2021’s Mortal Kombat. However, unfortunately for Illimuniation Studios and Nintendo, it falls well short of rival company SEGA’s recent movie outings, with Sonic the Hedgehog’s two recent films rated at 64% and 69%.

Despite the critical reception, The Super Mario Bros. Movie appears to resonate with early audiences. While the number is likely to fall from the lofty height of 98%, it just goes to show that the critic’s word is not everything. Furthermore, there has been some fan criticism of early reviews. With some reviews criticizing the feeling of watching someone else play a video or overly explaining ground-level Mario lore, some fans argue that the critics are out of touch. On the other hand, there were those who rejected the tomato meter altogether, citing that critics will always undervalue while fans and audiences do the opposite.
