Soulja Boy Continues The “Swag” Series With Its Sixth Installment

The First To Do It is something that Soulja Boy will always live by. While he might not be the originator of every hip-hop trend, he certainly deserves a lot of credit for what he has done. It does have less to do with lyricism and more so how to market yourself in a cutthroat industry. The Chicago, Illinois native has recently been in the news for things outside of music.

Over the past month, Soulja Boy has fallen into the deadly Blueface trap. He is someone else is making headlines for everything but his material. The reason these two are tangled up with one another because Blueface claimed he could out rap Soulja in a Verzuz battle. Since then, things have escalated quickly and they continue to beef into February.

Vic Spencer & Original Super Legend Bring Smoky And Dreamy Vibes To “Be Double Clip Tight”

Vic Spencer is a lyrical veteran from the Chicago rap scene that continues to treat us well with talent. The man got his start in the middle of the 2010 decade and has built out a strong catalog. Vic is someone who brings this sense of swagger but is also laid back at the same time. He has a voice that is a combination of Slim Thug, T.I., with a touch of Jadakiss.

It is a unique mix of names, but that makes Vic Spencer all the more interesting. He is able to methodically spit with the best of them and he has proven that over the years. Vic is doing that tenfold on his latest record with Original Super Legend. He is a rap producer who has a knack for coming up with creative jazzy instrumetals that will have you floating.

NGeeYL Turns To His Mentor, Lil Uzi Vert, For Help On New LP “SSetilian”

Lil Uzi Vert has been a mainstay in hip-hop since the mid 2010s. His early mixtapes and short projects feature some of the best and biggest hits from the decade. There is certainly a crowd out there that feels that the quality of the material has trailed a bit since the 2020s got underway. However, you cannot deny the impact he has had on the current landscape. One artist that has respected what he has done is NGeeYL.

The Spartanburg, South Carolina native actually turned Uzi into a fan of his. For some time now, the two have been grifiting off ideas from each other. So much so, that they have a handful of tracks together. Now, NGeeYL can add an album to that list as well. R.A.P. Ferreira Brings Unique To A New Level On “The First Fist To Make Contact When We Dap” With Fumitake Tamura

We are excited to bring our first-ever article on the vibrant left-fielder, R.A.P. Ferreira. His producer in crime, Fumitake Tamura, also joins him as being a newbie to the site. The reason were are highlighting these two today is because they have a new project out. It is called the First Fist to Make Contact When We Dap and it is also Ferreira and Tamura’s first collaborative effort.

Ferreira hails from one of the most creative hot spots in hip-hop history, Chicago, Illinois. He thrives in the underground/abstract scene, delivering complex rhymes while bringing weird and wonderful production. Fans of his used to know him as milo and/or scallops hotel. As for Tamura, he calls Tokyo, Japan home and he floats between electronic and hip-hop production styles.

the First Fist to Make Contact When We Dap is Ferreira’s first LP since 2022’s 5 to the Eye with Stars. On this new tape above, he attacks a bevy of soundscapes. While the project does sound very random and scatter-brained, this a way for him to express how free he felt recording this tape. In the bandcamp description about this 12-track offering, Ferreira had this to say regarding the process. “I wanted to make a work with bun [Tamura] that highlights the trust of the rapper / producer relationship. Tamura’s compositions pushed me like nothing yet has, his conception of what my sound could be left me needing to actualize it. I followed blindly and excitedly.” You can read the rest of the incredible stories of how this project came to be under the tracklist.

Just over a week ago, we covered Buffalo’s own Che Noir and her lead single for her EP, The Color Chocolate, Vol. 1. She brought on special guests Your Old Droog and Evidence for “Junior High.” It was a lyrically adept track as you might expect, with great storytelling elements surrounding each spitter’s youth. New Ché Noir Merch?” We are definitely ready because it is now here! One comment on her post saying that the tape is out encapsulates our emotions about this more or less. “4 tracks n still b better than n****s full albums 🔥🔥

Kota The Friend Presents His Fantastic “Lyrics To GO, Vol. 5”

The birthplace of hip-hop always seems to have the best lyricists. No matter the decade, there is always a bountiful amount of lyrical marksmen. However, it sort of makes sense. Artists like Kota the Friend have legends like Biggie, Nas, JAY-Z, Mobb Deep, and so many others to reference on how to craft a well-written song. So, it is no surprise that Kota is bringing fantastic storytelling and introspection once again to his newest full-length.

The 31-year-old is back to deliver his fifth Lyrics to GO, Vol. 5. It is a series that began nearly four years ago to the day. Like almost all Kota projects, the tracklist is trim, leaving little to no room for error. But, he is up to the challenge as always and he succeeds with flying colors.

Listen To Lyrics To GO, Vol. 5 By Kota The Friend

It just comes so easily for Kota. His flows never feel forced and it is like the beats have to form to his flows rather than him having to conform to the production. Not many rappers have that ability and he is a part of that crowd. Kota put out a handful of singles for this project, including the most recent, “YUMA.” The producer credits are stacked as well. Hit-Boy and Statik Selektah headline the main acts, while Dakun, Exile, and Sango fill in the cracks beautifully. This is a top-tier release of 2024 so far and it has a great chance of being on end-of-the-year lists.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new album, Lyrics to GO, Vol. 5, by Kota the Friend? Is this the best entry in the series so far, why or why not? Curren$y & Trauma Tone Curate Eight New Songs For “Highway 600 (Deluxe)”

Longtime hip-hop veterans Curren$y and Trauma Tone dropped their newest collaboration project, Highway 600. They did so back in the middle of December in 2023. It was a condensed, nine-track project that went light on the features and brought loads of kick back vibes. If you had to conjure up an album that was meant for those easy-breezy nights at the crib, this would be it.

Curren$y was following up three other LPs before this one. It was another busy year for the Lousiana product, as he also squeezed out 14 singles. Some of the highlights from Highway 600 include the Don Toliver cut “Coming Home” and “All F****d Up.” Now, the rapper and producer duo is delivering a deluxe featuring eight new songs.

The new format of the tracklist places the newest additions ahead of the originals. Wiz Khalifa also joins the fray for one of many collabs with Curren$y. They do so on the third entry “What She In It For?” What is also changed up is the cover art. Whoever designed the original artwork did a great job, but this new one may fit the vibe of the album even better. The same car finds it way onto the cover, but this time, it is parked in front of a gorgeous sunset with a nice city skyline. Give the new deluxe a listen with the links.

Blac Youngsta Grabs Label Signees For Collaborative Tape “Blac Youngsta Presents: Heavy Camp, Checkmate”

Blac Youngsta is easily one of the more prolific rappers from Memphis, Tennessee. The 33-year-old label head is back once again to follow up a recent drop. Unfortunately, his last record came during an agonizing time. Youngsta was dealing with the loss of his brother at the hands of a shooter at a local gas station.

Of course, Blac grieved the way most artists do, which is to make some music about their loved ones. That theme was quite heavy on Blac Sheep 2, a sequel to the original dropped months before it. He still was able to bring some turnt tracks though. We continue to wish Blac Youngsta, as well as his family and friends, the very best going forward.
