DaBaby Teases Fans With 3 Pack, “GHETTO SUPERSTAR: (THE INTRO),” Ahead Of New Album

DaBaby, in most people’s eyes, has come out with some pretty lackluster projects for the last couple of years. It seems that the consensus, for the most part, is that KIRK was perhaps the most recent offering that had the most memorable cuts. But the Cleveland-born rapper has had a fire lit under him over the last few weeks especially with some viral freestyles over the instrumentals for “Like That” and “Get It Sexyy.” He has always flashed tremendous technical abilities on these off-the-dome sessions, but fans are waiting for an album to replicate what his earlier LPs had. It seems that GHETTO SUPERSTAR: (THE INTRO) has DaBaby rounding back into shape.

Fans in the comment section of his most recent Instagram post are in agreeance that the “ROCKSTAR” hitmaker is just getting ready. DaBaby announced his first album in two years a couple of days ago and teased that three songs would be coming before it. That is where GHETTO SUPERSTAR: (THE INTRO) comes into play. The three lead singles include “DONE TRYING,” “GHETTO SUPERSTAR FREESTYLE,” and “JUDY” with Skilla Baby.

Each one poses a different vibe, and they all offer an enjoyable experience. “DONE TRYING” sees DaBaby attack a lowkey instrumental where he gets introspective about his rap career. “GHETTO SUPERSTAR FREESTYLE” is all gas and no brakes and “JUDY” is a booty shaking anthem that is ready to dominate the summer. Be sure to check them all out above.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new EP GHETTO SUPERSTAR: (THE INTRO) by DaBaby? Do you think that he is making a valiant effort to change his style, why or why not? Which track is the best out the bunch? Who had the stronger performance on “JUDY” and why? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. 4batz Delivers On The Hype With Debut Album “U Made Me A St4r”

4batz seemingly came out of nowhere. He garnered attention on TikTok, then exploded with the Drake remix for his song “Act II: Date @ 8.” Since then, the R&B singer has signed to OVO and drummed up a wild hype cycle for his debut album, u made me a st4r. 4batz’s meteoric rise has led some fans to label him an industry plant, but now that the album is finally here we can listen and determine for ourselves. We’re happy to report that 4batz is the real deal. If you like chilled out soul music from artists like Brent Faiyaz and PARTYNEXTDOOR, then you’re going to like u made me a st4r.

“Act II: Date @ 8” blends seamlessly into the tracklist here, despite being a hit single. The seductive jam is still too short, clocking it under two minutes, but part of its appeal lies in making listeners want more. The second single, “Act V: There Goes Another Vase,” reinforced 4batz’s aesthetic. Sultry yet sad lyrics (Bryson Tiller fans unite) and instrumentals indebted to 90s Timbaland. Brent Fayiaz really dug into the Timbo bag on his last mixtape, but 4batz manages to wield this influence in less overt fashion. “Act VI: Mad Men” and “Act VIII: I Hate to Be Alone” are murky explorations of messy romance that deliver on their titles.

4batz Creates An Intoxicating Mood Throughout The Album

Kanye West is the lone feature on u made me a st4r (the aforementioned Drake remix isn’t included). This is an odd choice on multiple levels. Firstly, 4batz is signed to OVO, which is run by Kanye’s least favorite artist in the world. Secondly, the Chicago rapper doesn’t really blend in with the chill vibe of the rest of the album. Kanye has become an agent of chaos, and while his verse isn’t bad, it sticks out like a sore thumb. u made me a st4r is a success otherwise, provided you’re cool with having heard several songs prior to release.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new album u made me a st4r by 4batz? Does the R&B singer live up to the industry’s high expectations? Which song is the best and why? Do you think Kanye West had a memorable verse on “Act III: On God”? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding 4batz. Finally, stay with us for everything else going on around the music world.

Tobi Lou & FARADA Bolster Their Chemistry With “Young Bopalopalous” EP

Chicago underground multi-hyphenate tobi lou has been steadily developing a close bond with producer FARADA. Over the last few months, they have become quite the dynamic duo, creating slightly left field contemporary R&B and pop rap cuts. They first began their creative journey together with their Baggy Weather (Mini Version) project just over a year ago. Then, just about three months later that same year they dropped ‘Decent with Chief Keef, Saba, Polo G and even Dame D.O.L.L.A (aka NBA star Damian Lillard). Now, FARADA and tobi lou are back in the lab once again with a three-track offering Young Bopalopalous.

This follows up their most recent effort Perish Blue (Fall Tour), which originally started out as Caturday. The latter has since been removed from streaming services. On Young Bopalopalous, tobi lou and FARADA are dropping more rap centric cuts this time around with trap rap instrumentals. The one that sticks out the most to us out of the trio though is “Hitchhiker.”

It is easily the more experimental of the bunch and it features a crazy addicting melody. The bouncy and spacey beat paired with tobi’s smooth delivery works wonders. His ability to create catchy and fun cuts like this are what make tobi lou such an interesting artist. Check out the EP with the links above and see for yourself how he continues to produce at a high level.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new EP Young Bopalopalous by tobi lou and FARADA? Is this their best set of tracks together, why or why not? Anycia Establishes Her Sound On Debut Album “PRINCESS POP THAT”

Anycia has been leaving her footprints all over the Atlanta rap scene. Her star power is undeniable at this point, especially with her impressive run of singles. Songs like “BACK OUTSIDE” with Latto, “NENE’S PRAYER,” and “SPLASH BROTHERS” featuring KARRAHBOOO, have shown that she has an irresistible sound. She is all about confidence and that is something she continues to stand by all of these years later. Anycia spoke with Uproxx about where this mindset comes from, as well as how it translates to her debut album PRINCESS POP THAT.

“I grew up in a house [where] I’m the only girl out of all boys, and I’m the firstborn, so like I’ve always been literally the princess,” Anycia said. “It’s Princess Pop That because I’m still a princess, really a queen, I do as I please. I don’t touch a door, if I got some heavy bags, I don’t give a damn what man is right there, pick it up! It’s my world and everybody else is just living in it.”

This definitely carries over to new songs like “THAT’S HARD” with Cash Cobain, “BAD WEATHER,” and “ATM.” Even though Anycia is portraying herself to be spoiled and having levels high levels of self-respect, almost to the point of ignorance, she wants to make sure her messages come across in the right way. “I’m super-duper excited about the impact that I make and building my platform so that I can use it in the correct ways. I’m excited about the future as a whole.” So are we Anycia, so are we.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new album PRINCESS POP THAT by Anycia? What songs are you gravitating toward the most right now and why? Who had the strongest guest performance on the record? Brother Ali & UnJUST Are More Than Formidable On “Love & Service”

The underground scene is a side of hip-hop that you can almost always count on to deliver some of the best records year in and year out. Brother Ali, a Madison, Wisconsin native, is just one solider in an army of some of the most unheralded lyricists the game has ever seen. On his new album Love & Service, Brother Ali is showing why he deserves that title and more recognition. Joining him one of the best records of the year so far is California producer unJUST.

Over the last few weeks or so, Ali had been dropping several singles ahead of his 12th project. In fact, all of this comes after a two-year hiatus of zero loosies or projects. He began the rollout back in February with “Ottomans” and would then go on to drop four more after that. Brother Ali went and grabbed a few features for the record as well, including Roc Marciano, Aesop Rock, Casual, Quelle Chris, and Rakaya Esime Fetuga.

Listen To Love & Service By Brother Ali & UnJUST

Across this 13-song tracklist, the longtime rapper discusses various topics that are always a welcome sight to hear instead of the traditional trap and pop rap talk. For example, on “The Collapse” (one of the singles), he raps about how most of society chooses to dance through and ignore the crumbling world around us on a daily basis. Furthermore, he explores other ideas such as God, death, and more. UnJUST also deserves a huge shoutout for the instrumentals. He was able to do some creative things in terms of the sampling and sonics overall. We highly recommend this project so be sure to check out Brother Ali’s latest work above.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new album Love & Service by Brother Ali and unJUST? Is this one of his better projects, why or why not? Which song is the best and why? MIKE DEAN Continues His Incredibly Trippy World Building With “424” LP & Short Film

MIKE DEAN is known as one of the most respected creative minds in hip-hop history. He has touched the world of rap with incredible beats, synths, and forward-thinking methods to produce truly iconic tracks. Today, he is working with artists like The Weeknd, Travis Scott, Metro Boomin, Future, Kanye West, Beyonce, and more. In fact, he had quite a fair number of production credits on Metro and Pluto’s back-to-back number albums WE DON’T TRUST YOU and WE STILL DON’T TRUST YOU. However, MIKE DEAN is looking to get his own shine with a new album 424.

This is now his fifth project and fourth entry in the 420 series. He began the saga back in April 2020 with the aptly titled 4:20. MIKE would then go on to release 4:22 in 2021 and 4:23 in 2023, respectively. Like the most recent installment, the veteran has recruited The Weeknd once again to help with production.

Another cool part about this project is that MIKE made a similarly psychedelic short film to go along with the progressive electronic pieces he masterminded. The 13-minute video, which is on YouTube, is supposed to convey “the human experience through the eyes of a robot.” Jason Goldwatch was the director behind all of this, and he has worked with some of the greats in hip-hop as well. Make sure to check out 424 above.

Hardrock Shows Who He Is Influenced By On Sophomore LP “My Gift To You”

Up-and-coming Atlanta, Georgia rapper and auto-crooner Hardrock really was impressive on his debut album 1of1. The 2023 project flashed the youngster’s potential with incredibly dark and trippy production and unconventional, but cohesive flows. Working with producers such as BNYX and F1LTHY on that tape really helped conjure up some intriguing ideas that could be further fleshed out in the future. You can tell that he was an impressionable artist, borrowing some style cues from Young Thug, Future, Playboi Carti, among others. However, those influences might be even more apparent on this sophomore effort from Hardrock, My Gift To You.

Right from the intro track “BOBA,” Hardrock does not leave an impression in our opinion. He is sort of in the background, taking a backseat to the roughly mixed instrumental. On 1of1, “poet” was the much more interesting start, doing a bit of spoken word over some entrancing production. Unfortunately, most of the beats are not as memorable either.

Listen To My Gift To You By Hardrock

As for Hardrock, his performances range from decent to nearly straight rip-offs of Carti and Thug. He still has a lot of time to grow as an artist. Not everyone starts off with their own refined sound. But the love for the legends that have come before is a little too much. Still, give the record and listen and see what you can enjoy from it.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new album My Gift To You by Hardrock? Is this one of his better projects, why or why not? Which song did he have the strongest performance on? Bun B Drops Off Feature-Packed Project “YOKOZUNA TRILL”

Bun B is one of the premier faces of Southern hip-hop. His legacy is firmly stamped in rap lore and will forever be remembered even after he decides to hang it up. He will be/is so easily recognized for his signature gravelly delivery and witty writing. He has tons of classic projects and his influence on the genre is almost unmatched. Over the weekend, Bun B came through with a new short project called YOKOZUNA TRILL.

The UGK member is still keeping up with some of the modern rapper’s outputs, as this is his third album in the last two years. Bun B has recently been working on his Trillstatik series with legendary producer Statik Selektah. Currently, it is up to its third entry, with that one dropping right before the end of the holiday season last year. But Bun wanted to stray away from that and work on a separate project.

Listen To YOKOZUNA TRILL By Bun B

This album appears to be named after famed American-Samoan wrestler Agatupu Rodney Anoaʻi, or Yokozuna. He competed in Japan and most famously America, in the WWF (World Wrestling Federation). He portrayed a sumo wrestling champion from Japan, even though his roots are not from that country, according to Wikipedia. The origin of the album’s title appears to ring true, especially from the silhouette of massive sumo wrestler over a gorgeously painted sunset skyline. It seems Bun B is likening himself to the late dominant icon, and it makes sense. He is a true champion of making Southern hip-hop tracks and YOKOZUNA TRILL is full of gems.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new album YOKOZUNA TRILL by Bun B? Is this one of his better projects as of late, why or why not? Which song did he have the strongest performance on? Lil Tecca Tour Partner Tana Drops Solo Album “BANA”

A couple of months ago, HNHH had the opportunity to speak with one of the top-flight melodic rappers in the game, Lil Tecca. During his interview with us, he spoke about his upcoming tour and who he would be bringing along with him and why he chose the artists he did. One of them shares a lot of similarities to the Queens, New York multi-hyphenate, in fact. He goes by tana, and he recently dropped his new album BANA.

Tecca said, “Why not bring some people that could you know, people that might not know who they are could hear their music. And it actually makes sense. It’s not like I’m bringing in a boom bap rapper on stage where they’re in front of a bunch of people that won’t like their music, you know, I’m trying to put people in front of people that will like it. So, it’s like a good experience for everybody. And I like their music, too. So that’s why they’re there for real.”

“I just feel like I haven’t done [a personal album] yet and I feel like it was overdue for my fans.” Another cool tidbit from that interview was the story behind the nostalgic childhood photo that is the album’s cover art. “That was one of the images my mom just sent me one day out of nowhere. She actually inspired me to name [the album] that. Because when she sent the picture, I was just like ‘dang’ because I only got a few pictures from my childhood. That was one of the three.” Clearly this album means a lot to Yung Bleu in a lot of ways, so be sure to support the record with the links above.
