Snoop Dogg Begins The Rollout To ‘Missionary’ With ‘Gorgeous’ Featuring Jhené Aiko

I can’t remember the last time that general audiences were as hyped for a new Snoop Dogg as they are for Missionary, Snoop’s long-awaited reunion with Dr. Dre and a spiritual sequel to his 1993 debut Doggystyle (if you couldn’t tell from the title). After announcing the release date a day ago and revealing the tracklist earlier today, Snoop and Dre unleashed the funky first single: “Gorgeous” featuring Jhené Aiko.

The song has a bit of a big-band funk feel, complete with brassy horn stabs and those classic, crispy Dr. Dre snares. Meanwhile, Snoop sounds refreshed and effervescent, neatly C-walking all over the glitzy production with his trademark player talk — or as he puts it, “I dealt with the cons and the pros / I mix Crip sh*t with the highs and the lows.” Aiko offers her honeyed vocals on the chorus, asking, “Don’t this sh*t look gorgeous?” It certainly sounds gorgeous.

The Doggfather and Dre recently gave an interview lamenting the lack of originality in today’s rap music — although to be fair, they are in their 50s, and there’s a lot of music out these days (so much, it’s hard for professional critics to keep track). However, to their credit, they offered a solution along with their complaints: “Be original,” Snoop advised. “Right now there’s so much copycatting, mimicking, sounding alike, and imitation. Find your production, your sound, find your ear for who you are, and be original even if it ain’t hitting. Stay you.”

You can check out “Gorgeous” with Jhené Aiko above.

The tracklist is here, too, and the album is full of features: Credited features include 50 Cent, Eminem (those two are on the same track), Tom Petty, Jelly Roll, Dre, Sting, Jhené Aiko, BJ The Chicago Kid, and more.

“Me and Dr. Dre been working on an album for the past two months, and it’ll be done in November. And it’s produced by Dr. Dre. It’s our 30th anniversary to Doggystyle. And the name of the album is Missionary.”

Snoop Dogg said this in October 2022. Whether the album ended up being done by November is a mystery, but it certainly wasn’t released at that point. In fact, it’s still not out.

Fast-forward to this past January, when Snoop again brought up the project, saying, “I can let the rabbit out the hat: I’ve been working on a record with Dr. Dre for the past 8 months.”

Finally, we have some more concrete news on the Missionary front: Today (October 30), Snoop officially announced the Dre-produced Missionary, revealing its release date is currently set for December 13.

He also shared a 42-second teaser video. It begins with two Mormon missionaries, smiling at they approach a doorstep and knock. They’re shocked when the door opens and inside is a woman in lingerie. Upset, she exclaims, “What the f*ck! Your ad said you’re dedicated to missionary work.” The stunned missionaries then run away as the album info is displayed on screen.

Snoop Dogg & Dr Dre’s “Missionary” Album Finally Gets A Release Date

Snoop Dogg and Dr Dre will officially be releasing their collaborative album, Missionary, on December 13th, 2024. The two announced the decision in a post on social media on Wednesday afternoon. In doing so, they shared a teaser skit of two Mormon missionaries door-knocking with a link to pre-save the project.

The announcement has fans on social media elated. “I was born in 1980! Family and friends say I am definitely a super fan. Love to karaoke to your album doggystyle. Can’t wait for your new drop!!” one fan replied to Snoop. Another wrote: “Holy f*ck you just made my year! I’ve literally waited forever for you and Dre to follow up Doggystyle. I was 14 years old when Doggystyle dropped, you’ve made a middle aged man feel like a teenager again.”

As for what fans can expect from the project, Jelly Roll recently confirmed that he’ll be making an appearance on the tracklist during an interview with Bootleg Kev. “I won’t say anything about the record because he didn’t, but man, it’s special. It is really good,” he said, earlier this month. “I’m legitimately on the Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre album. It’s crazy. It’s unreal. Dude, Jimmy [Iovine] hits John [Meneilly] and says, ‘Can we get on a FaceTime with Jelly Roll and Dre?’ I’m like, ‘Dr. Dre?!’ I get on a FaceTime from my back porch. I’m like a kid! Jimmy’s there and I’m already like, ‘I cannot believe it’s Jimmy Iovine.’”

Snoop Dogg Confirms “Missionary” Release Date

Check out the release date announcement for the album below. It comes after the two teamed up outside of music to launch their own gin, STILL G.I.N. The name references two of their most iconic collaborations, 1994’s “Gin and Juice” and 1999’s “Still D.R.E.” Be on the lookout for further updates on Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre on HotNewHipHop.

Snoop Dogg Reveals Shocking Pop Features For “Missionary” Album

Missionary is the most anticipated Snoop Dogg album in ages. The Long Beach legend is really building up the hype, from its title to its framing as a sequel to his beloved debut, Doggystyle. Snoop Dogg even brought Dr. Dre back to handle the lion’s share of the production. Missionary has been teased for a few years now, but all signs point to the album coming out soon. Snoop himself lent credence to this theory when he recently spoke at the Bloomberg Screen Conference in Los Angeles. He also revealed some of the features, and believe us when we say they are surprising.

Snoop Dogg claimed that Missionary will be the album that will allow him to bring the curtain down on his illustrious career. He’s become such a brand name, that the notion of him stepping back from music isn’t that surprising. “This new record is gonna put me in a position to probably have that final big stadium tour,” he explained. “Cause there’s a lot of features on this record that I’m excited about that are big-name artists.” Naturally, Snoop was asked which big-name artists are set to appear on the album.

Snoop Dogg Has Wanted A Sting Collab For Decades

It would have been logical to assume that Snoop Dogg would have opted for big-name rappers. But no, he decided to branch out and link up with some pop names. “I got a feature from Jelly Roll and Sting,” Snoop said. “I’m so happy that me and Sting got a record that’s so good.” The rapper was particularly thrilled to link up with the former lead singer of The Police. He also admitted that he’s been a fan since he was a child.

“We hung out and we chilled,” Snoop Dogg stated to the audience. “It was like a child that’s infatuated with somebody as a singer. And you get a chance to meet them and they give you everything that you expected.” Sting was similarly complimentive when he talked to BBC Radio 2 about the collaboration. “Me and Snoop made a recording of ‘Message In a Bottle,’ which he’s called something else,” the iconic singer said. “I played the guitar and I sang on it, but Snoop also sings on this, which is quite a revelation to me.” We can’t wait to hear how these two sound on record together.

Snoop Dogg Hints At 2025 Tour To Support New “Missionary” Album With Dr Dre

Snoop Dogg will reunite with Dr. Dre for their next collaborative album Missionary, which doesn’t have a release date yet. They’ve indicated that they want to drop it in November to commemorate the anniversary of their last full-length team-up, 1993’s Doggystyle. But a new Forbes report published Sunday (September 29) also added another exciting possibility to this reunion. Moreover, the writer mentioned “talk of a tour as early as next year,” although this wasn’t directly attributed to Tha Doggfather. As such, maybe it’s just wishful thinking or a misplaced interpretation, but it seems unlikely that they would drop this album without taking it on the road.

“Music is my foundation. That’s the root of who I am, so I can never run away from that,” Snoop Dogg expressed to the publication. He first announced Missionary back in 2022 on Stephen A. Smith’s Know Mercy podcast. “You’re the first one to hear this: me and Dr. Dre have been working on an album for the past two months,” the Long Beach legend revealed. “It’s produced by Dr. Dre, it’s our 30th anniversary to Doggystyle. And the name of the album is Missionary.” While it didn’t line up with the 30th anniversary, 31 isn’t so bad!

“As soon as we finish this I have to go downstairs and start mixing,” Dr. Dre told Entertainment Tonight last month concerning his upcoming album with Snoop Dogg. “I wanted 14 songs, Snoop wants 16, so we have that thing happening. I’m on song number 11 as far as the mixes go. I have to be done and delivered by September 1st to have a November release.” We never got an update on whether he handed the project in or not…

“I actually did a couple of songs, I’m not sure if one of them’s going to make it or not,” Dr. Dre continued his revelations about Snoop Dogg’s Missionary. “I produced the entire album. But vocally, I think, only one of them is going to make it. There’s a song, we have Sting on the song. Man, it’s an amazing roster of artists that’s on this album. I shouldn’t have revealed that, to be honest.”

Dr. Dre Shares Exciting Update Surrounding Upcoming Snoop Dogg Collab Album

Well, it’s now August 13 and we still do not have Missionary, the collab album between West Coast icons Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre. There was a little hope that Tha Dogg Pound was actually on the money with their claims. Daz Dillinger and Kurupt told the Drink Champs panel this in early June and it had us excited that it was dropping really soon. “Dogg sacrificed ’cause he got an album dropping in July. This album with Dr. Dre dropping in July”, Kurupt stated. Daz doubled down, adding, “He got an album coming out next month with Dr. Dre”.

For whatever reason, their words never became reality, but we do have a new update from one of the LP’s creators this time. According to AllHipHop, Dre had a chat with Entertainment Tonight and during it, he really hyped it up. Despite putting out a timeless classic with Doggystyle about three decades ago, the famed producer and rapper feels this work maybe even of higher quality. “This one is gonna show a different level of maturity with his lyrics and with my music,” Dre claimed.

“I feel like this is some of the best music I’ve done in my career”. Perhaps helping aid the studio sessions was the fact that the 2001 creator felt that he’s been in higher spirits. “[It’s been] much more fun”. These are all exciting tidbits to learn about, but hopefully we get the release date soon. As of now, there’s some speculation from Genius that November might be the month we receive Missionary.

Snoop Dogg & Dr. Dre Reach Final Stages Of New Album “Missionary”

Back in 2022, Snoop Dogg confirmed that he had a new album with Dr. Dre on the way, Missionary. The project will celebrate the 30th anniversary of Snoop’s 1993 debut, Doggystyle. Fans have been anxiously awaiting the release ever since, and fortunately, it looks like they shouldn’t have to wait too much longer.

During a recent appearance on the All The Smoke podcast, Snoop provided viewers with an update on the project. According to him, he and Dr. Dre have reached the final stages. “I’m in the lab with Dr. Dre right now. That’s Death Row/Aftermath. We finishing that up right now, tidying up the pieces to that. He’s a perfectionist,” he explained.

Snoop Dogg & Dr. Dre Are “Tidying Up” Missionary

He went on, revealing how the album came to be in the first place. “The n***a called me one day about two years ago. He was like, ‘N***a, come over, let me do a couple of songs with you,’” he recalled. “I go over there and he like, ‘N***a, let me do your album.’ And I’m like, ‘Alright, let’s go!’ We go in, knock out a couple of songs. He hit me back: ‘I need two more days.’ I got that call probably about 85 times. This n***a need two more days all the time.

“But when you hear what we have and how he got me rapping, it’s like a grown Snoop Dogg,” he added. “There’s some growth to him. It’s the way he selects his bars, it’s the way he uses his voice. [Dr. Dre] uses me like a f*cking robot and I love it because I love to be produced. I love to be challenged.” What do you think of Snoop Dogg revealing that he and Dr. Dre are “finishing up” their upcoming album, Missionary? Are you looking forward to hearing it? The D.O.C. Gives An Update On Snoop Dogg And Dr. Dre’s “Missionary”

During a recent interview with From The Desk Of Lo, The D.O.C. spoke on Snoop Dogg’s upcoming collaborative album with Dr. Dre, Missionary. The LP acts as a follow-up to Snoop’s 1993 hit debut, Doggystyle. The highly-anticipated offering is expected to arrive soon, though an official release date has yet to be revealed. According to the D.O.C., the duo is wrapping up the recording process, and he plans on helping them finish it.

“I plan on going to LA for a week next week to help Snoop and Dre finish Snoop’s Missionary album,” the artist explained. “We all haven’t worked together seriously, where we’re all in a creative space, in a long time. And we’re all in a space where we wanna do something great so it should be a cool week. We should come up with two or three really great records since we’re all in this kind of space.”

The D.O.C Says Missionary Sounds Like What Snoop’s “Next Record Would’ve Been Like On Death Row”

“We love each other,” he continued, “Y’know, those are my brothers, and I want them to win and they want me to win. We work for each other’s wins and that’s just what that is. We’re lucky if everybody’s in the right headspace, that’s the tricky part. But right now, in this moment, I think we’re all in that space where we’re ready to do some new sh*t.” The D.O.C. goes on, giving fans an update on how the album is sounding so far. “It sounds like what Snoop’s next record would’ve been like on Death Row, that’s what it sounds like,” he reveals.

Earlier this summer, producer Smitty also shared some new details of Missionary, claiming that he hasn’t seen Dr. Dre this dedicated to an album since The Chronic. “What people won’t expect is the level of execution that Snoop is committed to,” he explained. “Snoop’s in his bag.” Keep an eye on HNHH for more updates on Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, and The D.O.C.

Snoop Dogg And Dr. Dre Say Their New Album Is “Coming Soon”

Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre have given fans an update on their upcoming collaborative album, Missionary. Snoop shared a photo on Instagram of Dr. Dre and himself in the studio, captioning the post, “Coming soon.” Fans immediately flocked to the rapper’s comments section to express their excitement for the new project.

Snoop confirmed that Missionary was in the works last year during an appearance on Steven A. Smith’s podcast, Know Mercy. “I’ma tell you this, you’re the first one to hear this: me and Dr. Dre have been working on an album for the past two months,” he revealed. He went on to claim “it’ll be done in November.” Snoop continued, explaining, “It’s produced by Dr. Dre, it’s our 30th anniversary to Doggystyle. And the name of the album is Missionary.” When asked to share why they chose the name, Snoop simply told the host, “The first album was Doggystyle.”

Snoop Updates Fans

Last month, Smitty shared some additional details about the upcoming record during an interview. The producer told AllHipHop, “It’s gonna be great music.” He went on to say, “That’s not even the given. What people won’t expect is the level of execution that Snoop is committed to. Snoop’s in his bag. I was in Hawaii working with other projects last week. He called me — I’m three hours behind, it has to be 8 in the morning — he’s like ‘Man, this is Snoop. Little bro, I ain’t seen Dre this excited since The Chronic. He’s really excited about what we’re doing.’”

Earlier this month, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre also postponed their scheduled Hollywood Bowl performances to show support for the Writers Guild of America strike. The shows are set to celebrate the 30-year-anniversary of Snoop’s iconic 1993 album, Doggystyle. The performances will now take place on October 20-21 instead of the original June dates. They also sent food trucks to feed the striking writers, sharing a message alongside the sponsored bagels. “We stand in solidarity with the unions and are hopeful that the AMPTP will negotiate fair deals as soon as possible and everyone can get back to work,” a sign on one truck read.
