midwxst & Denzel Curry Lock In On “Tally”

Indianapolis rapper midwxst locked in with Denzel Curry for his latest offering, “Tally.”

The two artists collide over production from Charlie Heat and Kennedy Sabin, who deliver a Western vibe that’s amplified with heavy 808s and horns. Midwxst takes the lead on the record before Denzel Curry delivers yet another stand-out verse.

Midwxst became a bubbling force in the underground over the past years through a string of EPs. Last year, he dropped off two projects, Better Luck Next Time and Back In Action 3.0, which included “223’s” ft. Babytron. Though he’s yet to announce a debut album, he’s built up strong momentum through each of his releases. Hopefully, it’ll arrive sooner rather than later.

Following the release of Back In Action 3.0, midwxst unveiled the hard-hitting single, “Slide Den.” Then, he linked up with DC The Don on “Suicide.”

Last year, Denzel Curry emerged with his critically acclaimed album, MELT MY EYEZ SEE YOUR FUTURE. The album topped several year-end lists, while the rapper continued to dish out some excellent records and collab. In the past few months, Denzel’s made a concerted effort to work with the younger generation of artists that are coming up. Prior to joining midwxst on “Tally,” he came through with collaborations with JELEEL!, redveil, and Armani White.

Hopefully, we hear more from midwxst and Denzel Curry in the future. For now, press play on their brand new collaboration, “Tally.”

Denzel Curry Drops An ‘X-Wing’ Video And Announces An Expanded Version Of ‘Melt My Eyez See Your Future’

Denzel Curry is riding Melt My Eyez, See Your Future till the wheels fall off. The Miami-made artist’s acclaimed fifth studio album dropped in March, and the admiration of it has grown stronger with each passing month. This morning (September 26), Curry immersed even deeper into this era by premiering the cinematic music video for “X-Wing” and announcing the two-disc Melt My Eyez, See Your Future: The Extended Edition will hit DSPs and see a physical album release this Friday (September 30).

The Extended Edition is described in a press release as “reimagined” alongside the Cold Blooded Soul Band. “Rather than tacking on songs that didn’t make the album the first go around, he delivers a special version performed live in one take,” it reads. Curry and the Cold Blooded Soul Band performed an impressive Tiny Desk Concert in June.

In the Adrian Villagomez-directed “X-Wing” video, Curry is the solo star. Scenes oscillate between the 27-year-old confidently moving through a packed club, wielding a samurai sword, and “traversing over a Cyberpunk-like cityscape in an X-Wing Starfighter vehicle.”

Villagomez also directed the videos for Melt My Eyez singles “Walkin” and “Zatoichi” — Curry and the Cold Blooded Soul Band performed “Walkin” on Fallon in July — and Curry billed the “X-Wing” video as “his latest sci-fi thriller.”

Curry is nearing the final stretch of his headlining North American Melt My Eyez tour. This run comes after the self-proclaimed “best rapper alive” opened for Kid Cudi’s To The Moon World Tour in August. See his remaining dates below.

Denzel Curry Delivers A Flawless Tiny Desk Concert After Just Two Rehearsals

Denzel Curry‘s riding a career-high at the moment, enjoying the success of his fifth studio album, Melt My Eyez See Your Future. Debuting at No. 51 on the Billboard 200 and receiving widespread critical acclaim, the album is led by soulful singles such as “Walkin,” “Zatoichi,” and “Troubles,” and led to a well-received performance at this year’s Coachella, with an upcoming tour featuring dates alongside Kid Cudi. Curry kept the momentum going with a flawless performance on NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Concert series, backed by a 10-piece band.

Performing songs from his new album as well as some of his beloved hits, Curry seems astonished that the set goes so well. “We only did this rehearsal twice!” he exclaims between two songs. In addition to performing “Melt Session #1,” “Walkin,” and “Troubles” from Melt My Eyez, Denzel dug into his back catalog for fan favorites like “DIET_” from his 2020 Kenny Beats collaboration Unlocked, “Clout Cobain” from 2018’s Ta13oo, and “Ricky” from his 2019 album Zuu.

Besides having a productive year for himself, Curry has become a go-to featured freelancer for his peers, popping up on songs from IDK (“Dog Food“), Sampa The Great (“Lane“), and Dot Da Genius (“Talk About Me” with Kid Cudi and JID), as well as on the soundtrack for Elvis.

Denzel Curry Announces A Fall US Tour And Delivers A Can’t-Miss ‘LA Leakers’ Freestyle

Earlier today, Kid Cudi announced that Denzel Curry would be supporting him for seven of the shows on his To The Moon World Tour. And while that’s a good look for Curry, it’s also a major flex for the rapper as he just announced his own headlining tour at the same time.

Curry — who recently called himself “the best rapper alive” — will be supporting his album, Melt My Eyez See Your Future, which came out in March and is one of Uproxx’s Best Hip-Hop Albums of 2022 so far. Meanwhile, Curry popped into Power 106 this week to drop an LA Leakers freestyle over Lil Durk’s “Ahhh Ha” & Jeezy’s “I’m Just Sayin.” “I murder everything that I’m touchin’, you feel me,” he said before shifting from one beat to the other. It’s a can’t miss flow.

Denzel Curry Recruits Key Glock For A ‘Walkin’ Remix From A Rumored Deluxe Edition Of His Album

Denzel Curry’s Melt My Eyez, See Your Future has been out for a little over two months now, and it’s considered in some circles to be among the best albums of the year. Now, after declaring himself the “best rapper alive,” he’s keeping the hype train rolling with a remix of his album’s lead single “Walkin” featuring one of Memphis’ hottest rising rappers, Key Glock. The new version of the song is said to appear on an upcoming deluxe version of Melt My Eyez which will also feature Denzel’s frequent collaborator, IDK.

Key Glock’s new verse finds the Memphis rapper ruminating on similar concepts to Denzel’s. He shares his philosophy of persistence in the face of adversity, which especially resonates in light of the recent murder of Young Dolph, one of Glock’s biggest supporters and best friends.

Denzel’s collection of collaborations has been growing lately, as in addition to teaming up with Slowthai and T-Pain on singles from his own album (“Zatoichi” and “Troubles,” respectively), Denzel also appeared on recent songs from Sampa The Great (“Lane“) and IDK (“Dog Food“). Denzel is also listed among the contributors to the upcoming soundtrack for Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis. Whether he’s the best rapper remains up for debate, but there’s no question that lately, he’s certainly been one of the busiest.

Denzel Curry Shares The Release Date And Tracklist For ‘Melt My Eyez, See Your Future’

After teasing his new album Melt My Eyez, See Your Future with a Spaghetti Western-themed trailer, the space Western-styled video for “Walkin,” and the samurai flick homage “Zatoichi,” Denzel Curry has finally revealed the album’s anticipated release date. Set for release March 25, Melt My Eyez, See Your Future will feature appearances from 454, 6lack, Bridget Perez, Jasiah, JID, Rico Nasty, Robert Glasper, Saul Williams, Slowthai, and T-Pain. The album’s production team includes Cardo, DJ Khalil, Dot Da Genius, Jpegmafia, Kal Banx, Karriem Riggins, Kenny Beats, and Thundercat.

In a press release announcing the album’s release date, Curry detailed the album’s production process and aesthetics. “I like traditional hip hop, I like drum and bass, I like trap, I like poetry, so a lot of that is going to be interwoven in this album including jazz and a lot of genres that I came up on as a kid and just being in my parents’ house,” he said. “This album is made up of everything that I couldn’t give you on TA13OO or Imperial because I was going through depression anger issues.”

To promote the album, Curry is set to launch a world tour beginning in Denver, Colorado on April 1 and ending the month in Glasgow, United Kingdom. After a month-long swing through Europe, he’ll return to the US just in time for Governor’s Ball in New York, then complete the second leg of his US tour, wrapping up July 1 in Phoenix, Arizona.

Melt My Eyez, See Your Future is due 3/25 on Loma Vista Recordings. You can pre-save it here.

Denzel Curry Learns Martial Arts From A Blind Master In His ‘Zatoichi’ Video With Slowthai

When I was in high school 20-something years ago, I would get up early every Saturday to watch Zatoichi movies on cable. One of Japan’s longest-running film series (seriously, think the Marvel movies but solely about the adventures of a blind samurai in 1830s and ’40s Japan), the movies were the equivalent of Saturday morning cartoons for me, but for the longest time, I felt totally alone in my love for them (I know I wasn’t — The Boondocks even referenced Zatoichi in the episode introducing Grandad’s feud with Colonel Stinkmeaner) but now, it looks like I have something in common with Florida rapper Denzel Curry.

Today, Curry, who has been promoting his upcoming album Melt My Eyez, See Your Future, dropped off the video for the album’s latest single, titled — you guessed it — “Zatoichi.” Apparently, he was also a big fan of the visually impaired swordsman, who he references in both the lyrics (“I’m Zatoichi, leading the blind,” he raps over an ambient drum&bass beat) and the video, which finds him training in the martial arts against a blind teacher on the banks of a sheltered, river in a verdant landscape. The song also features UK rapper Slowthai, who drops in to offer a spirited chorus.

Denzel’s Melt My Eyez campaign has so far also included references to space opera in the video for “Walkin” and Spaghetti Westerns in the trailer. He’s letting his movie geek flag fly in the build-up to the album’s release and I, for one, am truly enjoying it as a fellow cinephile.

Denzel Curry Is An Intergalactic Desperado In The ‘Walkin’ Video

Early in the new year, rapper Denzel Curry released a spaghetti Western-influenced trailer for his upcoming album, Melt My Eyez See Your Future. Stylized like a film preview, the credits promise a loaded list of guest vocal appearances from 6lack, Bridget Perez, 454, Buzzy Lee, JID, Rico Nasty, Slowthai, and T-Pain, plus production from Boi-1da, Cardo, Dot The Genius, Jpegmafia, Karriem Riggins, Kenny Beats, Powers Pleasant, Robert Glasper, Thundercat, and Curry himself. The new video for “Walkin” is a continuation of the trailer that expands into a deeper visual aesthetic well beyond the Western.

In the “Walkin” clip, Curry is coursing through a post-apocalyptic desert in a different galaxy. It feels like a barren planet from Star Wars, complete with incredible sand dunes, blasters, and nefarious villains trying to put the rapper to rest. “Keep on walkin, aint no stoppin, in this dirty, filthy, rotten, nasty world that we call our home,” he raps on the hook. Both the music and the visual give rise to a desperado mentality from Curry, and a story is clearly bubbling for the release of Melt My Eyez See Your Future.

Denzel Curry Teases His New Album With A Spaghetti Western-Influenced Trailer

Carol City, Florida rapper Denzel Curry’s love for Japanese animation is well-documented but he’s apparently also a big fan of so-called Spaghetti Westerns, as evidenced by the new trailer for his upcoming album, Melt My Eyez See Your Future, he just shared on social media. The trailer features all the hallmarks of the beloved genre, from a sweeping desert vista to the poncho-clad protagonist silhouetted before its barren but beautiful horizon.

The end of the trailer features the album’s title spelled out anime-style, in both English and Japanese, and hints at the featured artists and producers making appearances on the project. The artists listed include fellow Floridian 454, Atlanta sing-rapper 6lack, buzzing underground singer Bridget Perez, legacy actress/folk star Buzzy Lee, Dreamville fireball JID, punk-rap rage machine Rico Nasty, grime rapper Slowthai, and hitmaker T-Pain. The production will be handled by Boi-1da, Cardo, Dot The Genius, Jpegmafia, Karriem Riggins, Kenny Beats, Powers Pleasant, Robert Glasper, Thundercat, and Denzel himself. Talk about your all-star casts.

Melt My Eyez See Your Future will be Denzel’s first full-length project since 2019’s Zuu, although he did release a joint EP with Kenny Beats in 2020 called Unlocked. Its release date has yet to be announced. Whether or not it becomes one of his final projects, as he previously promised to retire after a few more releases, remains to be seen. As the caption on the video’s YouTube page reads, the album is coming to a stereo near you, so stay close and check out the trailer above.
