Mariah The Scientist’s New Single Finds Her Celebrating “Christmas In Toronto”

Christmas has come and gone for another year, but festive cheer is still running rampant. At this time of year, new music can be hard to come by. Luckily, there’s still a handful of artists willing to work through the holiday season. Among those helping to close out 2022 is Mariah the Scientist, whose voice radiates on her new single.

“Christmas In Toronto” initially landed on December 24th, marking the perfect present from the R&B songstress to her fans on the special occasion.

“We spend Christmas in Toronto, woke to the most handsome face / Made memories no Audemars baguette cannot replace,” she reminisces on the chorus. “And it was sweet release, the most bitter taste / Met your mother, she has the sweetest embrace.”

However, not all of her lyrics are as heartwarming. “But wouldn’t it be nice if I could put my feelings aside? Wouldn’t it be nice if I hadn’t let you eat me alive?” she ponders on the song’s second verse.

Mariah’s new single follows a stream of successful releases shared throughout 2022. “Bout Mine” came at the end of October, and has since earned upwards of 1.3M streams on Spotify alone. Prior to that, the Atlanta native joined Dess Dior for a “Stone Cold” track.

Elsewhere in the news, The Scientist has been showing plenty of love to her beau, Young Thug, whose RICO trial will begin in the new year. Over the past few weeks, several YSL rappers have taken plea deals, though the “Day Before” artist wasn’t offered freedom like his friends.

Quotable Lyrics:

We spend Christmas in Toronto, woke to the most handsome face
Made memories no Audemars baguette cannot replace
And it was sweet release, the most bitter taste
Met your mother, she has the sweetest embrace

Mariah The Scientist Calls Out The Neighborhood Talk For Posting Bad Videos Of Her

Mariah the Scientist has had a busy year in 2022. Following the release of a short EP in March, she has since dropped two successful singles and gone on tour with Rod Wave.

A recent Instagram post from The Neighborhood Talk shares a video of her singing. The page is using the clip to comment on the quality (or lack thereof) within her performance.

In the screen-recorded TikTok, a fan is filming from the crowd and shows the 25-year-old singing one of her most recent hits, “Spread Thin.”

“Chile… this [is] how I sound singing this in the shower,” reads the caption.

Obviously, the “Always n Forever” singer took exception to the post. She subsequently called out the page for their comments. “Y’all never post any videos of me sounding good, y’all pick the 3 worst videos from an entire tour and post those hoping that I will be ridiculed for it,” she clapped back in the comments.

The rest of the comments are seemingly split between some agreeing with the poor quality of her vocals, while some fans evidently have her back. “Na she sung this live before and sounded really good,” says one user. “She can’t sing at all and always sounds [like] a mess,” says another.

“This blog is very biased, they want [to] post all the bad videos of Mariah but when Nicki no performing a** get on stage they only post her good clips,” another user chimed in.

In other news surrounding the Atlanta native, there have been dating rumors surrounding her and Young Thug for quite some time now. Earlier this year, the So Much Fun rapper surprised her with a romantic set-up for selling out all of her tour dates.

He has also been gushing over his alleged boo over social media from behind bars. As the 31-year-old remains in jail, the “Always n Forever” singer continues to advocate for her man’s release. In May, she wore a “Free Thugger” shirt while performing at one of her shows.

Furthermore, the 25-year-old recently wrapped up the aformentioned Beautiful Mind tour with Rod Wave and Toosii. The last performance was in Seattle, Washington on Wednesday (December 21).

What do you think of the performance video? Should The Neighborhood Talk have used their platform to put her down like this? Sound off in the comments and make sure to stay tuned to HNHH for the latest updates.

Twitter Drags Mariah The Scientist For “Cosplaying” As A Baby Momma On Magazine Cover

Mariah the Scientist faced backlash earlier this week after her cover for Galore Magazine sparked a debate on social media. Appearing to hold a baby while speaking to an inmate through glass, many accused the R&B songstress of portraying a baby momma image without having any kids of her own.

The 25-year-old’s magazine shoot went viral shortly after its debut, featuring a theme of Mariah visiting someone in jail or prison. She’s romantically linked with rapper Young Thug, who is presently behind bars and facing federal RICO charges.

Dragging Mariah for the photos, one user wrote on Twitter, “Mariah the Scientist makes it so hard to defend her because why are you acting like a jailbird baby momma and who baby is that.”

“I love Mariah the scientist but the photoshoot she did was definitely tasteless,” another person tweeted. “People are really suffering from being apart from their loved ones who are in prison & to do a prison themed shoot, to make it look fashionable was just bad on all parties involved.”

Confused about the direction of the photos, one user added, “Mariah the Scientist cosplaying as a babymom who’s baby dad is in jail is so fucking weird. Then she holding her shirt up showing her titties like what is going awn????”

Seemingly responding to the backlash, Mariah tweeted Tuesday afternoon, “Everything I do get y’all tight, hate that for you.”

During her accompanying interview with Galore, Mariah offered fans an update on what’s in store for her in the new year.

“Well, I wanna put out another single before the year is over with and then I wanna do maybe one more in the new year and I want to put a project out,” the Atlanta native revealed. She also shared that she wants to go on tour again.

Young Thug, who’s expected to stand trial in January 2023, also spoke with the magazine about his relationship with the singer. He said in the sit-down, “I feel like she’s therapy for me. You know, she takes her time, she listens, she assists, she allows me to fully be me.”

The rapper also interviewed Mariah himself for Galore, asking her at one point why she decided to take a chance on him.

Gushing about her boyfriend, the “Bout Mine” singer admitted, “You were pretty charming but never overbearing. You are very confident. You stand out amongst all men on planet earth and extraterrestrials. The thing that made me say yes though to be yours, I feel very complimentary with you.”

“I feel like you teach me a lot of things and vice versa,” she then added. “And I feel like the things I lack, you don’t just balance out the areas.”

Mariah the Scientist Releases New Four-Track EP ‘The Intermission’

Mariah the Scientist satisfies fans with The Intermission, an EP of previously unreleased singles. The four-track release, which is out today on RCA Records, is inspired by comedy in art, notably taking parts of broadcast television and merging them with music in a comical way.

“I thought it would be a good way to entertain myself and others during ‘the intermissions’ between my projects,” Mariah said. “This project is really important for me, because it’s really all about my fans. I’ve kept some of this music from them for so long and it’s been overdue for me to share this art. Also, I wanted to showcase more of my personality.”

“Church” is one of the earliest songs written by Mariah the Scientist and is inspired by new love. “I felt like it would be a good time to put ‘Church’ out, because I think I’ve fallen in love again and it feels even better than it did before,” Mariah said.

Mariah The Scientist And Young Thug Get Married In The Lusty ‘Walked In’ Video

A chance encounter in the strip club leads to matrimony in the self-directed video for Mariah The Scientist’s new single “Walked In” featuring Young Thug. As the song describes the lusty attraction between two strangers at a social gathering, the video plays out the duo’s unexpected trajectory, as they go from tossing dollars on the stage from opposite sides of the room to staging an intimate wedding (complete with Gunna, Young Thug’s newly inseparable sidekick, as a groomsman). Thug’s verse echoes Mariah’s as he brags, “I spent $400 on the tux just to go f*ck her in it.”

Mariah’s apparently got an affinity for Atlanta trap rappers, previously inviting Lil Baby to contribute a verse to her 2020 single “Always N Forever.” Since then, she released her 2021 sophomore album, Ry Ry World garnering praise for its blunt reflections on life and love, and raising her profile among fans of the sort of raw, reactive R&B being made by singers like Summer Walker and SZA, which often has sort of a trapped-out Mariah Carey vibe.

Meanwhile, Young Thug has already made a strong impression in 2022 thanks to Gunna’s DS4EVER single “Pushin P,” on which he appears alongside Future. I told you they were inseparable.

Mariah The Scientist Triumphs With Ferocity On The Feisty ‘Ry Ry World’

The RX is Uproxx Music’s stamp of approval for the best albums, songs, and music stories throughout the year. Inclusion in this category is the highest distinction we can bestow and signals the most important music being released throughout the year. The RX is the music you need, right now.

Mariah The Scientist‘s second album Ry Ry World looked to broaden the scope of her content, positioning her in a world that operates under her discretion. While her first effort, 2019’s Master, zoomed in on her love life, the failures of her partners, and her forever-changing outlook on the wide realm of relationships, Ry Ry World zooms out to deliver a panoramic view of Mariah’s mind to illuminate her worldview.

Through ten songs and a pair of guest features from fellow ATLiens Young Thug and Lil Baby, Mariah drops the curtain that stood in front of Ry Ry World. She reveals three major things that keep it on its axis: ferocity, feistiness, and a fearless approach to it all. Mariah is uninterested in the things that occur in her orbit that don’t concern her. Her peaceful and easy-going voice creates a path that traverses the world uninterrupted as it evades obstacles or barrels through them unfazed.

On “Walked In,” one of the more upbeat records on the project featuring Young Thug, Mariah walks with her head held high and the belief that not only what’s meant for her will come to her. “Yes sir, tonight we falling in love / Want none of that cappin’ ’bout booin’ up,” she sings before adding later, “Looked in his eyes and asked him ‘What you tryna do?’” A straightforward approach is the first step towards saving time and energy, especially when the result relies on the actions of another party. Whether through heartwrenching questions to a man about a woman he left Mariah for on “All For Me” or the ravaging thoughts behind heartbreak and her sinister responses to it on “Revenge,” the Atlanta singer has no problem shooting an arrow of havoc into her problems to kill them off for good.

However, the singer is not against a good fight whenever it’s needed. She raises her guard and creates distance between herself and an unfaithful lover on “Aura” through dreamy production and contemplation of the what-ifs and perfect world scenarios. “2 You” and “Maybe” also grapple with the uncertainty that results from failed bouts with love. “Maybe we should escape / Maybe I should’ve stayed,” she sings on “Maybe.” “Maybe we should’ve ran away / Maybe I should’ve prayed.” What Mariah must come to terms with is maybe things aren’t meant to be no matter what she could’ve done.

Mariah’s fearless approach to everything in her life is what makes Ry Ry World so unique and captivating. Factor in her ferocity and feistiness and it becomes evident that the singer strives to have her way. She lays her cards on the table with her heart beside it on “Always N Forever” with Lil Baby declaring, “I’ll be your woman always.” Even when it’s time to let go, like it is on “RIP,” Mariah drops the hand of her partner knowing that she fought as hard as she could. “And if I told you, ‘The world is yours’ / You’d just wanna go to Mars,” she admits. “But I cannot sell my soul to prove, it should’ve been ours.”

One can imagine that if Ry Ry World is not a place that Mariah The Scientist traverses by herself, it’s one filled with people who might, or should at least, strive to live more like the singer. The singer proudly wears her heart on her sleeve because it’s big enough to take on whatever damage the world might inflict on it. So even with an arrow in her back and through her heart as the album cover depicts, Mariah The Scientist won’t ever change her ways because Ry Ry World continues to spin as long as she stays true to herself.

Ry Ry World is out now via RCA Records. Get it here.
