“Barbie” Trailer Is Chaotic Camp At Its Finest: Watch

The second teaser trailer for Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie has been released. It should lay to rest any doubts that viewers may have had about the movie. The 2-minute-long teaser is campy, chaotic, and fun in all the right ways. The film was officially announced several years ago. Margot Robbie stars in the film and was attached before Barbie had even found its director. In Barbie, the titular character will go on a journey of self-discovery, leaving her home for the real world. The trailer tells us little about why she must leave. The extremely short film synopsis simply alleges it is because she is “less than perfect.”

The production of Barbie took quite some time to get the ball rolling. The idea was first presented by Universal Studios all the way back in 2009. However, production did not begin until Sony acquired the rights to the film in 2014. Rumors swirled about the actresses in negotiations for the lead role. Both Amy Schumer and Anne Hathaway supposedly eyed the part. When Sony failed to put Barbie into production, Warner Bros. acquired the rights to it. Shortly after, Margot Robbie was announced as both the lead actor and producer. Additionally, WB announced Greta Gerwig had stepped into the role of director. Noah Baumbach acts as screenwriter for the film, who many may know as the writer of the divorce drama, Marriage Story, starring Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver. Over the months that followed, the film added an almost staggering number of top actors and actresses.

Come On, Barbie, Let’s Go Party

In the newest trailer for Barbie, we are introduced to the neon-tinged world of the famous Mattel doll. It opens on a beach with pastel pink sand as a chorus of different Barbies say hello to one another. We see two Kens vie for the attention of Robbie’s character before she takes off in her car. She waves at passers by, hilariously taking her hands off of the wheel of her car completely. Eventually, Barbie and Ken are seen leaving their home for the real world. The end of the trailer shows off Noah Baumbach’s comedic writing chops as two Kens argue on the beach, vowing to “beach each other off.”

Humorous and lights, Barbie looks like it is going to be the perfect summer movie. It boasts an all-star cast, with Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Issa Rae, and Will Ferrell taking on lead roles, among many others. We can expect more from the film in the coming months, but for now check out the trailer above. Barbie releases on July 21.

Margot Robbie & Brad Pitt’s “Babylon” Bombs At Box Office

Babylon, the newest film from Damien Chazelle bombed at the box office with $3.5 million across 3,343 venues over the weekend. The movie stars Margot Robbie, Brad Pitt, and more of Hollywood’s biggest stars.

Babylon, which clocks in at 3 hours and 9 minutes, follows various characters working in the 1920s entertainment industry as the era of the silent film comes to an end. Robbie has previously described it as being crazier than The Wolf of Wall Street.

“There’s a dizzying amount of debauchery,” she told Empire in a recent interview. “One of the most disturbing, chaotic scenes I’ve ever witnessed is in this film. It involves a fight with a snake. I won’t tell you who wins or loses that fight, but trust me, it’s insane.”

Robbie’s next opportunity for a box office smash will come with Greta Gerwig’s Barbie in 2023.

The impressive cast for Babylon also includes Tobey Maguire, Olivia Wilde, Chloe Fineman, Flea, and more. The film had a budget of $80 million.

Damien Chazelle is best known for his films Whiplash (2014), and La La Land (2016). The latter of which earned him six Academy Awards, including Best Director. He became the youngest to earn the honor at the age of 32.

As for box-office successes, Avatar: The Way of Water, continued to dominate over the weekend. Despite extreme weather conditions hitting the United States, the film tallied another $56 million. The movie has now grossed $855.4 million globally. Only Top Gun: Maverick and Jurassic World: Dominion have reached the $1 billion mark in 2022.

Margot Robbie On Making It In Hollywood: “I’ve Always Had That Hunger”

Margot Robbie detailed the “hunger” she had to make it in Hollywood while discussing her career on EW’s The Awardist podcast. She says that in order to make it in show business, “you need to want it more than everyone else.”

The conversation arose while discussing her character in Damien Chazelle’s upcoming film, Babylon. She says she connected with her character, Nellie LaRoy, over their mutual drive for fame and success.

“I’ve always had that hunger,” the 32-year-old Robbie says. “I still have that hunger. I remember, especially when I was back in Australia, that feeling of: I just have to get there. How do I get a foot in the door? How do I make it to America? How do I get a plane ticket? At the end of the day, you need to want it more than everyone else.”

Robbie’s appearance on The Awardist comes ahead of the release of Babylon. In addition to Robbie, the movie stars Brad Pitt, Diego Calva, Jean Smart, Jovan Adepo, Tobey Maguire, and Li Jun Li.

Babylon follows various people working in the 1920s entertainment industry as the era of the silent film comes to an end.

Babylon hits theatres everywhere on December 23.

Margot Robbie “Barbie” Film Shares Teaser, Fans Think Dua Lipa Will Appear

If any actress has been booked and busy as of late, it’s Margot Robbie. The Australian starlet appeared in the Drake-produced Amsterdam alongside Christian Bale and John David Washington earlier this year. Additionally, she’s been preparing for the quickly approaching premiere of her upcoming Babylon project later this month.

Of the latter, the 32-year-old has teased fans with hints that it will be even more wild than her most popular release, The Wolf of Wall Street. While there’s certainly excitement drumming up surrounding the picture, it’s got nothing on the anticipation surrounding another of the actresses’ recent endeavours.

As you may already know, Robbie was previously cast to star as the titular character in Greta Gerwig’s rendition of Barbie. Starring opposite her as Ken is Canadian actor Ryan Gosling. Others in the cast include Will Ferrell, Issa Rae, Simu Liu, Kate McKinnon, and Michael Cera.

Thus far a lot of the film’s plot remains mysterious. Paparazzi took photos of the lead actors rollerskating around in neon gear, and some official pictures of the I, Tonya actress in costume have been circulating. However, on Friday (December 16), the world is finally getting a vague idea of what to expect from the movie.

As Uproxx notes, the brief clip is obviously a parody of 2001: A Space Odyssey. The camera sees several little girls happily playing with their “baby dolls.” However, when a larger-than-life Robbie-as-Barbie descends upon them, chaos accordingly ensues.

Footage from the film itself is minimal, though we do see quick appearances from Gosling, Rae, and Liu. Additionally, it sets a premiere date of July 21st, 2023.

Elsewhere in the news, the internet has been speculating that we could see an appearance from Future Nostalgia hitmaker Dua Lipa in Gerwig’s film. Another Uproxx report points out that the movie’s official account follows the English singer, along with other cast members exclusively.

No confirmation is coming out just yet. It’s also worth noting that she could simply be contributing to the soundtrack. However, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the performer try her hand at acting – it’s what her new beau, Jack Harlow, is doing as well, after all.

Check out the Barbie teaser below, and check back with HNHH later for more pop culture news updates.

Margot Robbie Knew She’d Made It Big When Jack Harlow Rapped About Her In ‘Side Piece’

Don’t underestimate the power Jack Harlow’s lyrics hold. To start this week, Page Six reported that Harlow is dating Dua Lipa, which would be notable on its own but is especially so because the 24-year-old Louisville rapper named one of his Come Home The Kids Miss You tracks “Dua Lipa.” His Atlantic labelmate gave her blessing for the song’s release, and allegedly, Harlow manifested with, “I’m tryna do more with her than do a feature.”

Margot Robbie, meanwhile, once thought she would “slip under the radar” in Wolf Of Wall Street but instead became a global movie star — most recently starring in Babylon and generating tons of buzz for next year’s Barbie. But Robbie didn’t cite her acting achievements — not even the two Oscar nominations — as validators that she was an A-lister when chatting with Carey Mulligan for the latest installment of Variety‘s “Actors On Actors.”

She nodded toward Harlow’s Come Home track “Side Piece.”

Toward the end of the 47-minute conversation, Robbie admitted to Mulligan that she never thought she’d be able to get her for Promising Young Woman because she held Mulligan in the same rarefied air as Meryl Streep and “prestige actors.” (Robbie was a producer, and Mulligan earned an Oscar nomination for her leading role.) Mulligan shared a recent instance when she’d been recognized as her Promising Young Woman character at her husband Marcus Mumford’s show, which led to Robbie asking what Mulligan’s “I know I’ve made it when” moments have been.

“I’ve always thought to myself, I was like, ‘I’ll know I’ve really made it when a legit rapper uses my name in a rap,” Robbie added. “Jack does mention my name in a song. I was very excited. My friends all sent it to me because they were like, ‘It’s happened! You’ve made it!’”

In the second verse of “Side Piece,” Harlow raps, “I need somethin’ besides the inside of these hotel rooms and lobbies / Maybe I should pick up a hobby / More like probably / More like Margot Robbie.”

Jack Harlow and Dua Lipa are Warner Music artists. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

2023 Golden Globe Nominees Include Margot Robbie & Rihanna: Full List Inside

As December inches closer and closer to wrapping up another eventful year, the entertainment world is already 10 steps ahead of everyone else as they prepare for the upcoming awards season in early 2023.

Most recently, George and Mayan Lopez markedly unveiled the nominees for the next Golden Globes at a special event in Beverly Hills, California. While at the Beverly Hilton, the Lopez vs. Lopez stars read lists of endless famous names who could potentially be taking home a trophy for their hard work on January 10th.

As Complex notes, the show will soon broadcast live via NBC and Peacock. Last year’s ceremony was unaired due to a boycott launched by an investigative piece from the Los Angeles Times.

Upon publishing, the story specifically shed light on the “lack of Black members in the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.”

Things appear to have been remidied since then, with the show scheduled to go on as expected. Comedian Jerrod Carmichael will accordingly be on hosting duties, and is sure to have plenty of quick wit to keep the crowd laughing.

“His comedic talents have entertained and thrilled audiences while providing thought-provoking moments that are so important in the times we live,” HFPA president Helen Hoehne wrote in a statement.

She later went on, “Jerrod is the special kind of talent this show calls for to kick off the awards season.”

Finally, check out the full list of 2023 Golden Globes nominees below. Afterward, let us know your winner predicitions in the comments.

Margot Robbie Admits She Improvised Brad Pitt Kiss In “Babylon”

Margot Robbie says that she improvised a kiss scene in Babylon to sneak in a kiss with her co-star Brad Pitt. Robbie recalled the moment during an interview with E! News on Monday.

“That wasn’t in the script,” Robbie admitted. “But I thought, ‘When else am I gonna get the chance to kiss Brad Pitt? I’m just gonna go for it.’”

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – APRIL 25: In this handout photo provided by A.M.P.A.S., Margot Robbie attends the 93rd Annual Academy Awards at Union Station on April 25, 2021 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Matt Sayles/A.M.P.A.S. via Getty Images)

So, Robbie spoke with director Damien Chazelle about whether a kiss would be fitting for their characters.

“I said, ‘Damien, I think Nellie would just go up and kiss Jack,’” Robbie recalled. “And Damien was like, ‘Well, she could — wait, hold on. You just wanna kiss Brad Pitt.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, so sue me. This opportunity might never come up again.’ And he was like, ‘It does work for the character,’ and I was like, ‘I think so.’”

Chazelle ended up being on board with the addition: “He was like, ‘No, do it again. That really works.’ I was like, ‘Oh, great.’”

Pitt wasn’t the only celebrity Robbie kissed on set either. She revealed that she also got one in with Katherine Waterston.

“I actually kissed Katherine [Waterston] as well,” Robbie said. “But I don’t know if that made the cut.”

Babylon hits theatres everywhere on December 23. In addition to Robbie and Pitt, the film stars Diego Calva, Jean Smart, Jovan Adepo, Tobey Maguire, and Li Jun Li. The story follows multiple characters during Hollywood’s transition from silent to sound films in the late 1920s.

There Was Almost A World Where ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ Starred Rihanna, Eminem, And Margot Robbie

I’m not afraid to say it: Mad Max: Fury Road? Good movie. Maybe even the best movie of the 2010s (and now I’m sore about it losing Best Picture to Spotlight all over again). The action rules, the direction rules, the score rules, and the guy playing the flamethrower guitar obviously rules. In case I didn’t make myself clear, Mad Max: Fury Road rules, and a big reason for that is the casting. There’s Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, of course, but also Nicholas Hoult, Hugh Keays-Byrne, and as the Five Wives, Riley Keough, Zoë Kravitz, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Abbey Lee (she knew the assignment, as they say, in Old), and Courtney Eaton (Lottie from Yellowjackets!).

It’s hard to imagine Fury Road without them, Hardy especially, but as revealed in author Kyle Buchanan’s Blood, Sweat & Chrome: The Wild and True Story of Mad Max: Fury Road, the movie could have starred Rihanna, Eminem, and Margot Robbie.

[Director George] Miller and his casting director, Ronna Kress, began meeting with actors in 2009, and their casting search was expensive and extensive: To cast the five Wives that Furiosa escapes with in her War Rig, Miller and Kress saw hundreds of women, including future superstars like Margot Robbie and Jennifer Lawrence. Near the end of that process, Miller even set up a meeting with a pop icon.

That would be Rihanna, who “looked spectacular when she walked in,” Miller said. “I’m not sure she was even aware of the content of the movie, so she dressed up as Rihanna, which was the right thing to do.” It’s unclear why she didn’t get the job, as she’s the best (and only) reason to watch Ocean’s 8 and Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. But she wasn’t the only Grammy winner to be considered for a role.

“This is something I don’t hear about very much and that George never admits, but I have a very, very, very strong memory of George talking about Eminem for Max,” lead storyboard artist Mark Sexton said. Miller confirmed the memory: “He’d done 8 Mile, and I found that really interesting — I thought, He’s got that quality. We’d done the first Happy Feet with the late Brittany Murphy, and she had done 8 Mile, so I asked her what he was like and would this be something really interesting for him? She had no reservations about saying what a wonderful talent he is.” That’s as far as things got (“We were going to shoot it in Australia at that point, and he simply didn’t want to leave home,” Miller explained), which is probably for the best, but just remember: rapper Eminem almost played Mad Max because of the dancing penguins movie.
