Megan Thee Stallion and Yuki Chiba’s “Mamushi” Tops YouTube US Shorts Chart

Megan Thee Stallion Unveils "MAMUSHI" Music Video Filmed in Tokyo

Megan Thee Stallion and Japanese rapper Yuki Chiba’s “Mamushi” continues to dominate, spending a third week at #1 on the US Top Songs on Shorts chart. The viral hit also climbs to #18 on the US Top Songs chart, driven by a popular dance trend, and lands at #40 on the Global Top Songs chart with over 11.5 million global views during the charting period. Additionally, Megan Thee Stallion is currently ranked #37 on the US Top Artists chart, reflecting her sustained popularity and influence in the music scene.

Last week, three-time Grammy award-winning superstar Megan Thee Stallion released the new music video for her global hit “MAMUSHI (feat. Yuki Chiba).” Filmed in Tokyo, Japan, the video features Japanese actor Shô Kasamatsu, known for his roles in acclaimed series like “Tokyo Vice” and “Gannibal.” Directed by Kevin “Onda” Leyva and produced by Tokyo-based creative company PUSH Japan, the visual is a stunning display of cultural and cinematic fusion.

In the video, Megan transforms into a mamushi—a venomous Japanese viper—and partners with Yuki to take down gangsters invading her spa. She then uses the souls of the deceased gangsters to create an army of blue-faced soldiers, paying homage to Akira Kurosawa’s 1990 film “DREAMS.”

The Houston native filmed at various Tokyo locations, including Tsurumaki Onsen Jinya for the spa scene and Engaku-ji Temple, a prominent Zen Buddhist site. Megan sports Japanese latex label Kurage, paired with a custom white bandeau and skirt designed by Matthew Reisman. She also continues her snake motif with a back tattoo of an Ouroboros, symbolizing the eternal cycle of destruction and rebirth that defines her latest album, “MEGAN.”

“MAMUSHI” has already generated over 150 million global streams and is surging in the Top-50 of the Billboard Hot 100 charts. The song also reached No. 1 on Spotify’s Global Viral chart in Japan. The video release follows Megan’s five MTV Video Music Awards nominations, including Best Hip-Hop and Best Collaboration.

Megan Thee Stallion Is A Venomous Vixen In Music Video For “Mamushi”

Megan Thee Stallion’s comeback has been one of much success. Her self-titled third studio album MEGAN performed very well in its first week, selling a respectable 64,000 copies. That was good enough for a number three debut on the Billboard Hot 200 and it’s currently sitting at number 40. A lot of tracks have been garnering a lot of love from fans and one of them is Megan Thee Stallion and Yuki Chiba’s “Mamushi”. The track is an ode to her adoration for Japan and its culture, and her being able pay respect to it on her biggest album has to have felt good. Since it landed on the Hot 100 five weeks ago, the track has not left and right now it’s in at the 36th slot.

It makes sense why it remains pretty high too. “Mamushi” is one of the slickest and catchiest songs on the record thanks to Megan’s melody on the chorus. Additionally, her rapping in Japanese alongside Yuki Chiba was a fun addition. At some point, a music video was bound to come to fruition and that day is today, according to Uproxx. There were some hints of this being in the works in late July, as she announced the filming of the video in Japan was getting underway on her IG. The video is a creative one, as there appears to be a fun callback to Rush Hour 2. A man walks into spa and selects Megan to be his masseuse. However, she transforms into Japan’s deadliest snake, the Mamushi, and kills him. In fact, anytime a man leers at her, she turns into this venomous reptile. It’s another way of alluding to Megan shedding her past and the men she deems no good.

Megan Thee Stallion’s NSFW New ‘Mamushi’ Video Sees Her Transform Into A Gigantic Snake

Megan Thee Stallion has frequently proven that she’s a lover of Japanese culture, whether she’s busting out Sailor Moon cosplay or presenting at the Anime Awards. Her love for the country continues to shine through in her latest output, a new video for the Yuki Chiba collaboration “Mamushi.”

A mamushi is a venomous type of viper found in Japan, and it turns out that Meg herself becomes one in the video. It starts with a man, played by Japanese actor Shô Kasamatsu, visiting a spa. There, he’s given a variety of women to choose from (in an apparent Rush Hour 2 reference), and he opts for Meg. Quickly, though, she transforms into a gigantic mamushi, which doesn’t bode well for Kasamatsu’s character. Between transformations and other goings-on, Megan hangs out in the spa and raps the song while frequently naked.

The video was filmed in multiple locations in Tokyo including the Tsurumaki Onsen Jinya (an onsen is a type of bath facility) and the Engaku-ji Temple (a major Zen Buddhist temple in Japan).

The visual arrives during a busy time for Meg: She just popped up at a Kamala Harris rally, she features on Latto’s new album, and a documentary about her life appears to be on the way soon.

Megan Thee Stallion Teases Cinematic Music Video For “MEGAN” Cut “Mamushi”

Megan Thee Stallion’s rollout for her new album MEGAN isn’t over yet, and with a wild tour behind her, she’s got more goods to focus on now. Moreover, she recently teased a new music video for the Yuki Chiba-assisted album cut “Mamushi,” which recently became the project’s latest single. The track has been one of the record’s biggest so far, so it’s no surprise that it’s getting a little extra love through a visual treatment. We don’t know when this new music video should be coming out or what it should include, but based on the black and white imagery, this bilingual song should be paying homage to Japanese film in one way or another.

Elsewhere, folks are ignoring Megan Thee Stallion’s killer year in the face of her Kamala Harris endorsement, including some callouts from Lil Pump. “Nicki Manaj > Megan stallion,” he shared online. “Who tf performs at a kamal Harris rally. She’s an embarrassment to the culture. This is an embarrassment to our country. Kamal Harris should’ve booked killer mike for the rally instead of Megan estallian. Kamala Harris needs Megan the stallion shaking a** to have people show up to her rally. Donald Trump needs himself to have people show up to his rally. One person is powered by the people, the other is powered by the establishment. Trump 2024 [U.S. flag emoji].”

Megan Thee Stallion Teases “Mamushi” MV

Regardless of petty politics and put-downs, Megan Thee Stallion is also facing a lot of scrutiny for reignited conspiracy theories about the Tory Lanez shooting, which her former best friend Kelsey Nicole had to address once again on Twitter. “It’s easy to get lost in the media, but let’s remember MY NAME was cleared by both parties involved. Stay tuned,” she shared online.

Meanwhile, this isn’t the first time that Megan Thee Stallion teased the “Mamushi” video, so you should catch up on that if you’re excited for the visuals. We wonder whether other MEGAN cuts will also get the MV treatment or if they will remain underrated fan picks from the discog. Either way, we’ll see what else 2024 holds for the Houston femcee after an already staggering seven months.
