Nas And Hit-Boy Received Some High Praise From Magic Johnson For Naming A Song After Him

The latest addition to Nas and Hit-Boy’s growing joint discography has arrived. Magic 2, the duo’s fifth collaborative project in just four years, dropped on Friday, July 21, earning praise from not just hip-hop heads but also one of the celebrities name-checked on the album. The song “Earvin Magic Johnson” is a reference to the NBA legend, but rather than praising his achievements on the court, it instead refers to his business acumen — something Nas can obviously relate to.

Magic himself acknowledged the reference on Twitter (I refuse to call it X, just like the Staples Center will never be called Crypto.com Arena by LA locals). “On Nas’s new album Magic 2 he dedicated track 7 to me called Earvin Magic Johnson!” he wrote. ““Thank you for the respect and honor of my business acumen. You’re a hell of a businessman in your own right!”

He’s not exaggerating. Last year, Nas teamed up with Google to invest in a video game company (just when video games are experiencing rapid growth), and he was one of the earliest of hip-hop’s icons to put his money into cryptocurrency. Meanwhile, Magic Johnson continues to be a big-time investor in his own right; last year, he joined a group bidding on the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders.

Michael Jordan And Magic Johnson Dine Together In Italy

Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson only ever played against each other 18 times. To a degree, this makes sense as they played in different conferences. However, it’s still weird to think that two of the greatest NBA players of all time only faced off a handful of times. Jordan holds an 11-7 record in the head-to-head (7-6 regular season, 4-1 playoffs). Furthermore, Jordan’s head-to-head stat line is 30.4/6.6/8.1 while Magic’s is 19.2/6.3/11.6.

Their first meeting was in December 1984, during Jordan’s rookie season. The Bulls came away with a 113-112 victory. Meanwhile, their final meeting was in February 1996, with the Bulls winning 99-84. However, their most famous face-off was the 1991 NBA Finals. It was the year of the Bulls’ first title run with Jordan at the helm. The Bulls blew out the Lakers harder than Jalen Green’s teammate’s back. Johnson would retire in 1996, having retired for one more season after initially retiring in 1991.

Jordan And Johnson Dine In Italy

A video emerged online on July 13 showing Jordan and Johnson dining out, reportedly in Italy. The video shows the pair being serenaded by locals. That’s it, that’s the story. They went to dinner in Italy. Jordan doesn’t look like he’s having the best time but there’s no drama or anything especially funny about the video. We hope they had a good meal because Italian food is wonderful, especially when you have it in Italy.

Back home, Jordan recently got into hot water after he appeared to say that he disapproved of his son’s relationship with Larsa Pippen. However, Marcus Jordan later clarified his father’s remarks. “We spent Thanksgiving together last year, and my family loves her. They think she’s great,” Marcus Jordan said. “And ultimately, I think my family just wants to see me happy. And so as long as I’m happy, they’re happy with whoever I’m dating. Everybody had an opinion at first, I think there was some shock and interest early on. But I think that was the whole point of us trying to spend some family time together during the holidays. At least for me, if we’re gonna be in the media, I kind of need to introduce you to my mom and my mom’s side and my dad’s side. And so, I think that went well and so far, so good.”

Magic Johnson, Samuel L. Jackson Still On Gorgeous Yacht Vacay

Name a more iconic duo than NBA great Magic Johnson and Marvel movie maven Samuel L. Jackson. The two have been enjoying a long vacation on a yacht in Sardinia, an island in the Mediterranean Sea. It is the second largest island in the sea, right behind Sicily, and it’s just big enough to harbor the massive yacht the celebrities are relaxing on. Magic Johnson is renting the yacht at an exorbitant $1 million per week, and they are about to enter week two of the vacation extravaganza.

The two are on summer hiatus after busy starts to their 2023. For Magic Johnson, the Laker legend was looking to make a bid for the NFL team, the Washington Commanders, as part of an investment group. If the deal were to get pushed through, he will be part of the group that owns the franchise for a record-breaking $6.05 billion price tag. Meanwhile, Samuel L. Jackson is coming off filming for the Marvel TV series Secret Invasion, currently streaming on Disney+.

Samuel L. Jackson is also coming off filming the sequel to Marvel’s 2019 movie Captain Marvel, aptly named The Marvels. At 74 years old, the man deserves a break, and he’s doing exactly that on a yacht in Sardinia. During his time with Magic, Jackson has been receiving acupuncture and cupping treatments to help relieve him of some physical soreness. This is to set him up for more filming, as the prolific actor is under contract for four upcoming features within the next year.

Johnson and Jackson jumped off the mega-yacht for some Italian grub at the Cala di Volpe Hotel. Magic has taken this annual trip for almost a decade straight, renting the “Phoenix2,” which measures 296 feet long. The yacht has everything you could ever ask for: an outdoor theater, swimming pool, jacuzzis, and a gym. No word on when — if ever — the two of them will disembark the Phoenix2. For now, they’re enjoying the time off.

Magic Johnson Reacts To Recent Commanders Bid

Magic Johnson is someone with incredible business acumen. Overall, this is especially true when it comes to the world of sports ownership. Johnson is part-owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Sparks, and even Los Angeles FC in the MLS. However, there is one sport he is still trying to get into, and that’s football. The NFL is one of the best organizations in the world, and everyone would love to own one of its 32 teams. Unfortunately, teams only come up for sale every few years.

Although, the Washington Commanders are currently being sold by Dan Snyder. Snyder is not very well-liked in NFL circles, and with potential scandals on the horizon, he is looking to get out of dodge. This has subsequently led to a bidding war for the team. Everyone wants to get in on this, including Magic Johnson. As we reported recently, he was part of a group that just bid $6 billion on the team. They do have competition, however, as a Canadian billionaire put in a very similar offer.

Magic Johnson Remains Hopeful

While appearing on The Today Show, Magic Johnson was asked about his recent bid and how he feels about it all. Of course, Johnson is very excited about the prospect of owning the Commanders. However, he is very attuned to the fact that it is beyond his control. Although, he did note that he is hopeful that Dan Snyder will choose his ownership group. After all, it’s better for a team to be in the hands of many than just one person. Snyder has certainly taught us a lesson in that.

If Johnson does become part-owner of the team, then it will be a historic moment. Across sports, there are very few black owners. While he would have a minority stake, his participation is still extremely significant. Hopefully, Snyder makes the right decision and brings the legend on board. Magic Johnson is someone with incredible business acumen. Overall, he has made a whole lot of money throughout his career. However, most of it has come off of the court. In fact, Johnson was able to purchase a stake in the Los Angeles Dodgers a few years ago. When he did that, Johnson made it very clear that he is interested in sports ownership opportunities. Subsequently, there have been all sorts of rumblings about him potentially wanting to own a bit of an NFL team.

Last year, there was a solid opportunity with the Denver Broncos. However, Magic Johnson missed the boat as another group ended up with the team. At the time, the team sold for a whopping $4.65 billion which was an NFL record. Now, the Washington Commanders are for sale as Dan Snyder is jumping ship. There is a ton of interest in this team, and according to TMZ he has joined a massive group that is looking to buy the team. The group includes Sixers owner Josh Harris, as well as Mitchell Rales who is a billionaire. As it turns out, the group just put in a $6 billion bid for the Commanders.

This would be the largest sale in the history of the National Football League. However, Johnson, Harris, and Rales will all have some competition. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, a Canadian billionaire by the name of Steve Apostolopoulos also put in a $6 billion bid. No matter what, it looks like Snyder is in for a massive payday. Whether or not it is deserved, is up to the Commanders fans to decide.

It would be amazing to have Johnson in the NFL as an owner. However, it will ultimately be up to Snyder as to which group he wants to go with. That man is none other than Victor Wembanyama. At 7’4,” Wembanyama is looking like an absolute beast of a player. He is killing it over in France and subsequently, teams believe he can be their savior. As for Magic Johnson, he believes the kid is better than just good.

“I had the chance to meet and talk to the best player in the world and this year’s number one pick in the NBA draft Victor Wembanyama!” Johnson said. Yes, you read that right. Johnson is actually claiming that Wembanyama is the best player in the entire world.

As you can see in the tweets below, many found this to be incredibly bold. Overall, Wembanyama has yet to do anything at the pro level. For all we know, he could wind up being a huge bust. However, Magic seems to have a ton of confidence in the young man.

Magic Johnson Clears The Air About Fake Story Of Him Donating Blood

Over the last couple of weeks, a fake news story has been circulating around social media that says that Magic Johnson, despite having HIV, donated blood. The story came about after a picture of Johnson getting his blood drawn went viral.

The tweet in question has a picture of the NBA legend giving blood with the caption saying that he is donating blood for underprivileged communities to fight COVID-`19. Despite the tweet coming from a satire page, people chose not to investigate the source, and instead made the tweet go viral.

Nonetheless, it didn’t stop Magic from responding to the tweet and people who believed that he actually donated his blood. Johnson shared message on his Twitter earlier today, August 23, saying that he’s aware of the fake story and that he’s never donated blood before.

“I’m aware of the false story circling the internet, and to be clear, I have never donated blood,” Magic tweeted.

The Associated Press even revealed that the picture used in the Tweet came from a 2012 NPR documentary “Endgame: AIDS in Black America.” The scene in the documentary shows Magic get his blood drawn from his doctor Dr. David Ho.

Johnson had announced his HIV diagnosis in 1991 and then announced his retirement from basketball. Johnson has since become a spokesperson and advocate for HIV awareness.

Magic Johnson and Kanye were among those looking to purchase the Denver Broncos after it went up for sale earlier this year. However, their hopes of owning a NFL team were crushed yesterday when it was reported that the team would be sold to Rob Walton, the heir to the Walmart fortune, and who has a estimated net workth of $65.7 billion.

In a statement following the purchase, Walton spoke on the sale saying  “Having lived and worked in Colorado, we’ve always admired the Broncos. Our enthusiasm has only grown as we’ve learned more about the team, staff, and Broncos Country over the last few months.”

In May, Magic Johnson had joined businessman and 76’ers co-owner, Josh Harris, in a bid for the Broncos.

Earlier this year, Antonio Brown, president of Donda sports, announced that he wanted Kanye to buy the Broncos. “NFL CALL YE,” Brown tweeted. “Donda Sports want to buy the @Broncos who with me!” Brown added in a separate tweet.

TMZ, was able to catch up with Brown where he doubled down on wanting Ye to buy the Broncos. “Tell Roger [Goodell] to call me. We’re working on it … We’re working towards getting it done,” Brown said.

Basketball legend Magic Johnson is joining a bid to become an owner of the Denver Broncos. He’ll join the group being led by Philadelphia 76ers co-owner Josh Harris.

According to Sportico, the NFL has faced increased pressure over the lack of diversity in its ownership ranks. It is speculated that every Broncos bid group is expected to have minority investors included.
