LeBron James shook the foundation of the NBA six years ago when he left the Cleveland Cavaliers for a second time to join the Lakers. However, the face of the Los Angeles franchise did not really leave a lot of people wondering what he would do this offseason. Number 23 did decide to opt out of the final year of his two-year, $97.1 million extension he inked back in 2022. But the free agency “drama” did not last more than a week. The King is returning to the purple and gold on another two-year max contract, although this time it worth $104 million.
That deal was confirmed by Dime, as well as NBA insiders Shams Charania and Adrian Wojnarowski. In addition to the max money, James also as has a no-trade clause and a player option for the final year. Unfortunately, this negotiation further hampers the possibility of adding any other higher-level talent to the roster. However, it does not matter all that much as LeBron’s key targets –Klay Thompson, Jonas Valanciunas, James Harden– are no longer available.
LeBron James Will Be A Laker For At Least 2 More Years
Perhaps, the Lakers could go out and acquire Bulls guard/forward DeMar DeRozan. But in terms of a roster fit, his game is not really the ideal marriage. The Lakers need extra deep shooting, and DeRozan, while still an effective scorer, is not the guy you think of when it comes to being a three-ball specialist. There is still time for the front office to work some numbers, but as it stands, LeGM’s team remains nearly the same as last year. They were the eighth seed in the Western Conference and were bounced out of the playoffs again by the Nuggets, this time in five in the first round.
What are your thoughts on LeBron James resigning with the Los Angeles Lakers? Did they overpay or hit the nail on the head with the contract, why or why not? Do you see the team winning another championship in these next two seasons? If not, who should they go after to round out this roster? Bronny James is going to be under a microscope from now on. He was already getting tons of attention for being LeBron James’ son, but now that he’s on the Lakers, things have been kicked up a notch. He’s going to be subject to the same scrutiny as his dad. Especially since the two of them will be on the same team. Bronny James was drafted on June 27, and sports media erupted a day later when it was revealed which jersey number he’ll be wearing on the court. Bronny will be rocking number “9.”
TMZ broke the news on June 28. Bronny James has worn a number of different numbers over the years. He rocked “0” when he played on Sierra Canyon, but that has already been claimed by Lakers star Jalen Hood-Schifino. He wore “6” during his time with the USC Trojans, but he was never going to be able to wear it in the NBA. The number “6” has been retired league wide, in honor of Boston Celtics legend Bill Russell. Bronny also shied away from rocking a number that his dad has worn, like “23.” He ultimately settled on “9,” which is a number he actually has tattooed on his body. Bronny James has a “999” behind his ear. The tattoo is a tribute to one of his favorite rappers, Juice WRLD.
Bronny James Has “999” Tattooed As A Juice WRLD Tribute
TMZ also confirmed that Bronny James will have a “Jr.” on his jersey name. The outlet did not clarify whether LeBron James will have a “Sr.” added to his jersey, however. Regardless of what happens with naming conventions, the Lakers are thrilled to have both James’ on their team. Rob Pelinka, the Lakers vice president of basketball operations and general manager, issued a statement following the draft. “In the history of the NBA,” he wrote. “There’s never been a father and a son that have shared an NBA basketball court. And that feels like something that could be magical.”
Bronny James has yet to discuss the historical significance of his situation. His father, who is rarely at a loss for words, has also been quiet. Sources close to the Lakers legend claimed that he was “emotional” following the draft selection. The only direct acknowledgment of the father-son achievement has been on Bronny’s Twitter account. He posted of him and LeBron on the court together, with the caption: “Los Angeles Lakers.” It’s going to be a special season for LA fans.
Stephen A Smith speaks on numerous topics within the sports world. Overall, he has a lot to talk about these days, especially as it pertains to the NBA Draft. Yesterday, Bronny James was taken by the Los Angeles Lakers with the 55th pick in the draft. This has subsequently led to a massive debate about whether or not this was a nepotism move. After all, Bronny was not exactly NBA Draft material last season. However, with his father on the Lakers, it was a foregone conclusion that they would take him.
As for Stephen A Smith, he takes issue with some of the discourse going around. As you can see in the clip below, Smith explains how white executives and coaches around the NBA have gotten away with nepotism for years. He feels like LeBron has paid his dues, and that a little nepotism from the second-greatest player in the history of the league really isn’t that bad. Simply put, he wants a lot of hot-take artists to shut up right now.
“We live in a country where nepotism has taken place with white folks religiously forever,” Stephen A Smith said. “We’ve said little to nothing about it. In the NBA specifically, in a league where at least 70% of the players are Black, we’ve seen nepotism with white folks all over the place… and now this happens with LeBron James, a member of the Mount Rushmore of basketball, and all of a sudden you’ve got people running their mouths.”

Savannah James is a proud mother today and for good reasons. Overall, her oldest son Bronny was drafted into the NBA last night. He was taken 55th overall by the Los Angeles Lakers. Consequently, he will now get to play on the same court as his father. There is no telling whether or not Bronny will earn a spot on the Lakers roster. In fact, it is believed that he will likely end up on the team’s G-League affiliate. However, this is still a massive accomplishment for the young man.
Following Bronny’s draft, there were numerous and memes and comments being made about the young man. Overall, fans were not necessarily enthused about the alleged nepotism at play here. However, there were some fans who decided the best course of action was to just make some lighthearted jokes about the whole thing. For instance, one fan on Twitter joked that LeBron James is sleeping with his teammate’s mom. Of course, that mom being Savannah James.
As you can see in the screenshot above, Savannah James actually shared the meme on her Instagram story. Needless to say, she has a pretty good sense of humor about the whole thing. After all, this is a huge accomplishment for her family. Bronny and LeBron are about to become the league’s first-ever father-son duo. This is history in the making, and fans are curious to watch it all play out.
Let us know what you think about Bronny getting drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers, in the comments section down below. Do you believe that this is deserved? How do you feel about the recent allegations of nepotism being leveled at Bronny? Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the sports world. The speculation is over. Bronny James’ fate was a hotly-debated topic heading into the NBA Draft because of his father, LeBron. The GOAT candidate made it clear that he wanted to play alongside Bronny before he walked off the court. And he got his wish on Thursday, June 27. Bronny James was selected by Los Angeles Lakers in the second round of the NBA Draft, according to ESPN. The 19-year-old was the 55th pick.
The Lakers’ decision is historic. It marks the first time in NBA history that a father and son will play in the league at the same time. Naturally, they will will the first father-son duo to do it on the same team as well. LeBron James has been pushing for the acquisition of Bronny since 2023, when he told reporters that he had one more item on his career bucket list. “I need to be on the floor with my boy,” he announced. “I got to be on the floor with Bronny.”
Bronny James And His Dad Have Already Made NBA History
King James isn’t the only Lakers star who has vouched for Bronny James. Anthony Davis praised the teenager’s abilities during a pre-draft interview with ESPN. “He’s very good defensively,” Davis told the outlet. “He can read the floor very well. I think he’s a really good playmaker.. I think he’s going to be fine, man. Obviously it’s a lot of pressure on him with his dad being who he is.” The pressure is something that Bronny himself has addressed. He acknowledged the extra attention he’s gotten is largely due to who his father is, but asserts that he will prove himself an NBA-worthy player if given the opportunity.
Bronny James was hounded by questions about playing with his dad well before the draft. He was able to maintain focus on himself, however. He told the Los Angeles Times he was more concerned with being a good player, than getting to be on the court on with family. “I would be happy about getting to the league instead of me thinking about playing with my dad,” he noted. “But that’s not my mindset at all. I’m just trying to put in the work and see where it takes me.” It’ll be exciting to see where Bronny’s career goes from here.
Bronny James is currently one of the most talked-about players in the entire NBA Draft and for good reason. Overall, he is a player that many fans are interested in, as they want to see him play alongside his father, LeBron. Although he was not picked in the first round last night, he was never projected to. Instead, it is believed that Bronny is going to be drafted with the 55th overall pick by the Los Angeles Lakers. This way, he can finally fulfill his father’s wish.
However, Tim Legler of ESPN believes something a lot more interesting could happen on Thursday. Essentially, Legler theorized that the Boston Celtics could pull off something truly unique. They are picking one spot above the Lakers, and he thinks they should take Bronny before the Lakers can. Subsequently, they could hold Bronny hostage and then force the Lakers to give them a player the Celtics truly want.
“54th pick. We renew the Cold War between the Celtics and the Lakers,” Legler began. “The Boston Celtics take Bronnie James and send a ransom note to the Lakers: ‘We have your son. We have your son. If you want him back…If you want him back, it’s gonna take Austin Reeves’” While this likely won’t happen, it is pretty fun to think about. Hopefully, however, Bronny and LeBron get their wish.
Let us know what you think of this theory, in the comments section down below. Do you believe that the Celtics would be bold enough to try something like this? Are the Lakers going to end up with Bronny by the end of tonight? Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the sports world. JJ Redick was recently appointed as the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. Overall, it is a hiring that has been quite controversial. Redick has no coaching experience in the pros, or even college. However, his podcast with LeBron James has demonstrated elite basketball knowledge. On Tuesday, Redick found himself being scrutinized for another reason. In a tweet from Halleemah Nash, Redick was accused of calling the woman the N-word while she was working with the Duke basketball team.
“I’ve only been called the N word to my face by a white man once in my life and it was on the campus of Duke University while I was doing work with the basketball team,” Nash wrote. “And today he was named the new head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. What a world.” Subsequently, this tweet went viral, and NBA fans were trying to make sense of all of this. Numerous questions were raised, and some pondered whether or not Redick would lose his job.
According to TMZ, Redick’s team has put out a short statement about the controversy. “No, it never happened,” the spokesperson said. Since the tweet came out, neither the Lakers, LeBron James, nor ESPN has said anything. This morning, fans are curious as to whether or not Stephen A. Smith will tackle this on First Take. Either way, this is not a good look for Redick or the Lakers franchise, who were already under scrutiny for hiring him, in the first place.
Let us know what you think about this controversy, in the comments section down below. Do you believe that Redick will see any ramifications from all of this? Do you believe the players in the Lakers locker room will take a stand against Redick? Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the sports world. We will continue to keep you informed on all of your favorite athletes and their roster moves.
On Monday, the Los Angeles Lakers introduced JJ Redick, a 15-year NBA veteran who retired in 2021 and has since made a name for himself as an ESPN analyst, as their new head coach. Redick, 40, recently called the 2024 NBA Finals after his promotion to ESPN’s lead broadcast team but said the opportunity to coach the Lakers was too good to turn down.
Known for his sharpshooting skills, Redick ranks 19th in career 3-pointers made in NBA history. Although he lacks NBA coaching experience, the former two-time First-Team All-American at Duke is confident in his abilities to lead the team.
“I have zero coaching experience in the NBA, but I would argue that I’m very experienced,” Redick said. “I got to play for Coach K for four years, spent 15 years as a player …”
Redick’s transition from media to coaching has been in the works for some time. Despite his success as an analyst, he remained interested in a potential coaching career. After interviewing with the Toronto Raptors last year, Redick began preparing for a move to the sidelines.
Taking on the challenge of coaching the 17-time NBA champion Lakers, Redick is excited about his new role and feels ready for the job. “It’s a dream come true to join such a storied franchise and work with such talented players,” Redick said. “I can’t wait to get started and help lead this team to new heights.”
The Lakers are hopeful that Redick’s experience as a player and his analytical mind will bring fresh insights and strategies to the team. As they look to reclaim their championship status, all eyes will be on Redick as he takes the floor for his NBA coaching debut.
Redick added, “Sitting in this seat, I know what the expectations are … It’s my job, it’s our staff’s job, it’s Rob’s job, to deliver a championship caliber team. That’s what I signed up for.”
Over the last few weeks, there have been numerous rumors about JJ Redick becoming the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. Overall, he is someone who has become quite close with LeBron James. This has mostly been through their “Mind The Game” podcast where they discuss schemes and strategy. It has become clear that Redick has a great mind for the game, no pun intended. However, some have expressed skepticism over him actually being an NBA coach.
There were numerous conflicting reports about whether or not he would get the gig. Well, today, it was revealed by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN that Redick agreed to a four-year contract with the team. The contract was offered this morning, and Redick took it. Now, he will have to leave ESPN and join a Lakers squad that may not retain the services of LeBron James. Needless to say, the NBA Draft is going to be extremely interesting.
As for NBA Twitter, they find this all very humorous. Numerous jokes have been made at Redick’s expense today. Most of them have to do with Redick being chronically online. For instance, some suggest that Redick is going to go to Twitter for strategy. It’s a ridiculous notion, but it makes for some funny banter. Redick has little to not head coaching experience at this level, so it will be interesting to see how the players respond to him. This could be genius, or this could be a disaster.
NBA Twitter Weighs In

The basketball world is mourning the passing of NBA icon Jerry West at the age of 86. He was a legend both as a player and as an executive, renowned for his exceptional talent and unwavering dedication. His impact on the NBA is unmatched, and his legacy will live on forever. Of course, the NBA immortalized his accomplishments through the silhouette of the iconic NBA logo. To honor this influential figure, we celebrate his greatest accomplishments, which have inspired generations of players and fans.
Conquering The NBA Finals & Winning His First Championship
After enduring countless defeats in previous NBA Finals appearances, West’s perseverance was finally rewarded in 1972. He led the Los Angeles Lakers to their first championship in his illustrious career. That season, the Lakers showcased their dominance, setting a remarkable 33-game winning streak, a record that still stands today. Despite playing through the pain of a hamstring injury, West’s determination and clutch performances propelled the team to victory against the New York Knicks in the Finals. He averaged 19.8 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 8.8 assists per game, according to StatMuse.
Cementing His Legacy As “Mr. Clutch”
West earned the moniker “Mr. Clutch” for his uncanny ability to rise to the occasion and deliver in the most crucial moments. Throughout his 14-season career with the Lakers, West earned numerous accolades. This includes 14 All-Star selections, 10 All-NBA First Team honors, and five All-Defensive First Team selections. His scoring prowess was unmatched. West averaged 27.0 points per game, highlighted by his career-high 40.6 points per game in the 1965 playoffs and his scoring title in 1970 (31.2), per Basketball Reference.
Jerry West’s name is in the NBA record books for his extraordinary achievements on the court. Notably, he remains the only player in league history to be named Finals MVP (1969) despite being on the losing team. This demonstrated his ability to excel under pressure. Throughout his career, West scored 40 or more points in 10 NBA Finals games — a feat that legends like LeBron James and Michael Jordan never reached. His career-high of 63 points, achieved against the New York Knicks on January 17, 1962, showcased his scoring prowess, according to Basketball Reference.
Masterminding The Acquisition Of Kobe Bryant
West’s transition from player to executive was marked by a series of brilliant moves that reshaped the Lakers’ future. However, none was more significant than acquiring Kobe Bryant. In 1996, West orchestrated a draft-day trade with the Charlotte Hornets. He sent veteran center Vlade Divac in exchange for the No. 13 overall pick, which the Hornets used to select Bryant. This bold move was initially met with skepticism, but West’s vision and belief in the young star proved prophetic. Bryant went on to become one of the greatest players in NBA history.
West’s tenure as an executive for the Lakers included another monumental decision: signing Shaquille O’Neal in 1996. West recognized that pairing a dominant big man like O’Neal with the budding talent of Kobe Bryant would create a formidable duo. Moreover, they would be capable of leading the Lakers to multiple championships. O’Neal’s impact was immediate and powerful. He won three consecutive Finals MVP awards from 2000 to 2002, solidifying the Lakers’ status as the team of the early 2000s.
Establishing The “Showtime” Era With Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
West’s executive brilliance was further showcased in the late 1970s and 1980s, playing a crucial role in creating the “Showtime” era of the Lakers. Working as a scout, West was instrumental in drafting Magic Johnson as the No. 1 overall pick in the 1979 NBA Draft. He recognized Johnson’s unique blend of size, skill, and charisma. Pairing Magic with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, whom the Lakers had acquired in 1975, West laid the foundation for one of the most exciting and successful periods in NBA history. The Lakers went on to win five championships in the 1980s.
Acting as an Advisor With The Dynasty Golden State Warriors
Jerry West’s basketball insight continued to influence the NBA well into the 2010s through his advisory role with the Golden State Warriors. Joining the franchise in 2011, West subsequently provided critical guidance and knowledge. It helped transform the Warriors into a modern dynasty. His influence was pivotal in key decisions, such as drafting Klay Thompson and Draymond Green. He was also integral in the strategic hiring of head coach Steve Kerr in 2014. Moreover, under West’s advisement, the Warriors adopted an innovative style of play centered around three-point shooting, ball movement, and defensive versatility. This led to four NBA Championships in 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2022.
In tribute to Jerry West, we celebrate a life dedicated to basketball. His impact transcended the court, inspiring generations of players and shaping the NBA landscape. West’s tireless determination, clutch performances, and visionary leadership have left an indelible mark on the sport. His legacy will continue to inspire those who aspire to greatness.
