As unprecedented flooding sweeps through the Southeastern United States, a slew of music’s biggest artists have come together to contribute their talents to aid those folks affected by Hurricane Helene in North Carolina. Three NC natives have organized 135-track album, Cardinals At The Window, featuring Angel Olsen, Fleet Foxes, Jason Isbell, Little Brother, MJ Lenderman, R.E.M., The War On Drugs, and more, with proceeds from the download-only project going directly to three organizations benefitting the impacted communities. They are BeLoved Asheville, Community Foundation of Western North Carolina, and Rural Organizing and Resilience.

The project’s organizers are musician and community organizer Libby Rodenbough, New Commute founder David Walker, and music journalist Grayson Haver Currin, while Shirlette Ammons, Martin Anderson, Anna Morris, Cory Rayborn, and Rusty Sutton provided “critical support,” according to a press release. Sylvan Esso’s Nick Sanborn and Clay Blair engineered the project for free, while Hunter Savoy and Ryan Gustafson launched the Cardinals at the Window direct funding campaign. Rodenbough who was on tour in Massachusetts with The Dead Tongues when the hurricane hit, said, “There were just so many folks who, like us, had witnessed the destruction of these holy places from the outside and felt their hearts trying to break out of their chests. It was instant, the way people signed on. They also feel what I feel, that these mountains are the cradle of some deep and ineffable magic.”

You can find more info about Cardinals At The Window on the campaign website, and download the album on BandCamp.

Little Brother Releases Two-Track EP “Wish Me Well / Glory Glory”

Durham, North Carolina rap duo, Little Brother, has just made a triumphant return. In fact, it has been four years since the release of any new material. The last time we got music from Phonte and Big Pooh was back on August 20, 2019. It came in the form of an album called, May the Lord Watch. It was a 15-track 37-minute-long project with no features. After that, we have not heard anything from them.

However, the legendary East Coast group is having a little celebration coming up next month. The special occasion is for their debut album which has now been out for two decades. They felt it was only right to throw a block party for one day on October 7. Little Brother announced this back on August 8 on their Instagram. The name if the event is “Made In Durham: A Little Brother Block Party.” Some special guests will also be a part of this full-circle moment, including Big K.R.I.T.

Little Brother’s Rapper Big Pooh Drops His Visceral New Album, ‘To Dream In Color’

One half of influential North Carolina hip-hop duo Little Brother, the gregarious Rapper Big Pooh is adding to his prolific solo output. With over a dozen projects under his belt as a solo artist, Pooh has just dropped his latest album, To Dream In Color. It plays out as a visceral and honest portrait of who the hip-hop lifer has become as a man.

“This is my most personal body of work,” Pooh said in a statement. “My hope is that listeners get a better sense of who I am as a person by actually hearing my story. I speak about lacking confidence, stage fright, swallowing pride, my childhood, and so much more.”

The album’s ten tracks feature appearances from J. Smash of The Nukez, Jared Evan, Blakk Soul, BeMyFiasco, and Tre’Mar. His partner in Little Brother, Phonte Coleman, even claims a writing credit on “Mother’s Day,” and the album artwork was done by Justus League’s Joe Scudda.
