Bronny James, the son of NBA superstar LeBron James, has overcome a significant health setback as he has recently obtained medical clearance to resume playing basketball. After rigorous medical evaluation and rehabilitation, the University of Southern California (USC) officially gave Bronny the green light to return to basketball activities.
Bronny James has received medical clearance to return to basketball following a severe health scare.
In July 2023, the USC basketball player suffered from a cardiac arrest, putting his basketball future in jeopardy. However, after undergoing months of medical evaluation and rehabilitation, Bronny has been officially cleared by USC to resume basketball activities.
The announcement came on Nov. 30, when the James family shared a statement expressing their gratitude for their support during Bronny’s recovery. The statement read:
“Bronny James is now cleared by his doctors for a full return to basketball.” Bronny will have a final evaluation with USC staff this week, resume practice next week, and return to games soon after. The James family would like to express their gratitude to the incredible medical team, the entire USC community, and especially the countless friends, family, and fans for their love and support. Fight On!”
Bronny had already made a symbolic return to the court when he joined his teammates in warm-up before USC’s game against Brown on Nov. 19. His return to competitive play is highly anticipated, especially by his father.
In a post-game interview on Nov. 30, LeBron expressed his desire to witness Bronny’s debut for USC, even if it means missing a game with the Los Angeles Lakers.
“I definitely gotta see Bronny’s first college game whenever he’s cleared and ready to go,” LeBron said.
However, the scheduling may pose a challenge, as the Lakers are slated to participate in the NBA In-Season Tournament around the same time. While USC has not confirmed the date of Bronny’s debut, it is expected to be at the earliest on December 10 against Long Beach State.
