This sentiment was expressed over and over on Reddit after Bungie announced the change. “I am honored to continue the great work of Lance Reddick as Zavala,” David said in a statement provided by Bungie. “Lance captured the character’s sense of integrity so wonderfully. It is my intention to continue that work.”
Furthermore, the developer revealed that Reddick would remain present in the game. David would only take over the role from The Final Shape, the game’s next major expansion, onwards. All previous voice work done by Reddick would remain in the game to preserve the actor’s contribution and legacy to the community of gamers that loved him dearly. Reddick had been the voice of Zavala ever since the original launch of Destiny in 2014. Not only are there likely hundreds of hours of Reddick content that would have to be replaced, it would also be a disservice to remove the work of such a legendary and well-regarded actor.

Bad news for the Jack Harlow haters — which, apparently, includes fellow white rapper/hooper Lil Dicky — but the White Men Can’t Jump remake looks GREAT in its new trailer. All the hallmarks of the original remain intact: the trash talk, the friction between the two protagonists (and between them and their ladies), and even the classic Los Angeles hoop locations, including the “Watts Oasis” court (fire), the world-famous Venice Beach courts (cool, but open runs down there be bunk sometimes), and Angel’s Gate Park in San Pedro (trash, don’t play there unless you feel like chasing your ball into the Pacific Ocean).
Everything gets a modern update as well; Jack comments that his opposite, Sinqua Walls’, stereotyping him for being white is outdated (he was really stereotyping the ‘fit, which… understandable), the hustlers trade cash via apps (Jack even trash talks Sinqua’s choice of apps), and the famous Marques Johnson “Imma get my other gun” gets an upgrade courtesy of Elon Musk.
Also making appearances in the film are fellow rapper-turned-actor Vince Staples (my new favorite thanks to his recurring role on Abbott Elementary, although you could see the potential even in his five minutes in Dope) and the late, great Lance Reddick, as well as Teyana Taylor and Laura Harrier. According to a statement to PEOPLE, Lance Reddick’s family is disputing the listed cause of death. “Lance was the most physically fit person I’ve ever known,” the statement from Reddick’s attorney James Hornstein read, “He exercised daily at his home gym, including extensive cardio work, and the availability of gym facilities was a contractual requirement for his work away from home. He ate as if a dietician was monitoring his every meal. The information appearing on the death certificate is wholly inconsistent with his lifestyle.” Hornstein also noted that he believed the cause of death was not determined as a result of an autopsy. “The coroner statement on the death certificate is not a result of an autopsy. No autopsy was performed on Lance. To my knowledge, no medical examination of Lance during his lifetime ever indicated such conditions”
Hornstein’s statement did not indicate what next steps the family would be taking. Additional medical examinations would depend on whether Reddick was cremated or not. TMZ‘s original report indicated that he was, but Hornstein declined to remark on the matter. Furthermore, while autopsies can be requested by the family of the deceased, they are performed at the discretion of the medical examiner. Regardless of the course of action Reddick’s family decides to take, it is clear that the news concerning his cause of death has been deeply upsetting.

Specifically, Reddick succame to Ischemic Heart Disease and Atherosclerotic Coronary Artery Disease. Both conditions relate to the coronary arteries. Coronary Heart Disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. An estimated 18.2 million adults suffer from it. Following his death, his wife released a heartfelt statement, saying he had been “taken too soon”. She also asked fans to send donations to a Baltimore-based neo-natal charity.
