Kevin Hart narrates the new Audible Original, SUMMER OF ’85. The new release tells the story of Philadelphia in the Summer of 1985, highlighting Mayor Wilson Goode’s decision to drop a bomb on the headquarters of MOVE, a controversial Philadelphia-based cult, and the July 13th Live Aid concert, where international rock royalty convened in Philly to raise money for Ethiopian famine victims.

The chapters combine archival footage with interviews of people who were there in person, like Bob Geldof, Patti LaBelle, and Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, and original reporting.

Produced by Kevin Hart and Charlamagne Tha God’s SBH Productions, SUMMER OF ’85 is written by Chris Morrow, co-author of six New York Times best-selling books and co-founder of The Loud Speaker Network.

Jay-Z Says He No Longer Charges For Guest Verses

It’s hard to get a feature from Jay-Z these days. It’s even harder to get an interview. But fortunately, Jay stopped by Kevin Hart’s Peacock talk show, Hart To Hart, to talk about how his career has evolved over the years.

One of the biggest revelations was the fact that he no longer charges for features. Jay, however, admitted that he is still very selective about who he collaborates.

“It’s mostly [based on] relationships,” Jay said. “It’s actually always been mostly relationships. Sometimes it’s talent and sometimes someone asks me to be on something. Pretty much every song that I’m on I’m asked to be on. I don’t ask people to be on their songs. I never charge.”

Jay also admitted that it can be hard to reject requests from other rappers, but says it’s better to be honest and transparent.

“I try to be straight up,” he said. “Sometimes it slips through the cracks. Sometimes I want to do it and my life is in a certain place and I’m movin’ and I can’t do it. But I typically try to be straight up with people. I don’t like to drag or like waste people’s time or hold them.”

In the interview, he also spoke about marriage, fatherhood, and his plans to retire eventually. He confirmed that he is not currently retired, he just hasn’t put out solo music in a while, as he “needed a break.”

Jay-Z Tells Kevin Hart He Isn’t Retired, He’s Just Not Making Music Right Now

The second season of Kevin Hart‘s Peacock talk series Hart To Heart is set to premiere this week. In a preview clip posted by Access Hollywood, Jay-Z discusses with the comedian the status of his latest semi-retirement. Although Jay notoriously “retired” once in 2003 with the release of The Black Album, he returned in relatively short order just three years later with Kingdom Come. This time, though, he has no plans on making any grand pronouncements of the same nature, even joking about his previous retirement with Hart.

“Nah, I tried that,” he admits. “I’m terrible at that! I just needed a break … I was really burnt out at that time. I was releasing an album every year … I just looked up one day and I was like, ‘I’m tired.’ I’d never been on vacation until, say, 2000, my whole life.” This time, he says he has no intentions of walking away — “for good” or otherwise — despite not currently having any projects in the works.

“I don’t know what happens next,” he acknowledges. “I’m not actively making music or making an album or have plans to make an album, but I never want to say that I’m retired. It’s a gift, and who am I to shut it off? It’s open to whatever. And it may have a different form or interpretation. Maybe it’s not an album, maybe it is. I have no idea, but I’m just going to leave it open.”

While Jay isn’t making music on his own yet, he did recently make an appearance on Pusha T’s album It’s Almost Dry, contributing his voice to the single “Neck And Wrist.” He also cleared seven samples for The Game’s upcoming album Drillmatic.

Jay-Z Speaks On Whether Or Not He’s Retired: “I’m Going To Leave It Open”

Jay-Z is arguably the greatest rapper of all time and one of the greatest artists, taking into consideration his skill level, longevity, impact, and discography. Just last year Complex ranked Hov as having the most unbeatable discography in hip hop.

However, Jay hasn’t dropped a solo album since 2017’s acclaimed 4:44 album executive produced by No ID, and since 2018’s Everything Is Love with Beyoncé. Despite having popped out for a feature on Kanye’s “Jail” and Pusha-T’s “Neck and Wrist,” many are speculating that Jay-Z’s focus is no longer music and that maybe we are going to soon see the retirement of one of the greatest rappers ever.

Jay-Z addressed these retirement rumors on a recent episode of Kevin Hart’s Hart to Heart series. The comedian asked the multi-hyphenate whether or not he’s retired, to which Hov replied “Nah I’ve tried that,” referencing his brief retirement from rap after dropping 2003’s The Black Album, which was supposed to be his last album before retirement.

“I just needed a break. But I really thought that I was really burnt out at that time. I was releasing an album every year. ’96, ’97, ’98, and in between that, soundtracks, other people’s albums, Roc-A-Fella, touring, back to back. I just looked up one day and I was like ‘I’m tired.’ I had never been on vacation until like, I want to say 2000, my whole life. I was just really burnt out at that moment.”

Hov went on to say that he is currently not working on an album and doesn’t have plans to, but doesn’t want to say that he is retired.

“I don’t know what happens next. I’m not actively making music or making an album or have plans to make an album, but I never want to say that I’m retired. It’s a gift, so who am I to shut it off? And it may have a different form or interpretation. Maybe it’s not an album, maybe it is. I have no idea, but I’m just going to leave it open.”

Fast-food in a Hartbeat.

Comedy mogul Kevin Hart expands his empire into the plant-based industry with the announcement of the opening of two upcoming plant-based restaurants in Los Angeles called Hart House. For the new venture, Hart, 42, will team with established restauranteur and Hart House CEO Andy Hooper to bring a fast-food menu featuring vegan burgers, “chicken” sandwiches, nuggets, fries, tots, salads, and milkshakes. Two years in the making, the first Hart House will open this summer in Hollywood.

Hart and Hooper broke the news of Hart House to LAMag last Thursday (June 16). Hooper told the publication, “I think it’s important for us to be a restaurant that first and foremost serves a crave-able product that people go out of their way to consume and then at the end we’re like, ‘Hey, by the way, this just happens to be all plant-based.”

Hart House is currently a food truck used for private events. “Kevin sort of conceptualize this idea at the beginning of the pandemic,” said Hooper on Hart House’s conception. “If I were advising him at the time, I would say, ‘Don’t you dare ever start a restaurant, and don’t you ever start a restaurant in the middle of COVID,’ but after almost two years of really working on this menu and getting the food to a place where it can deliver on that promise, we’re ready to go and we’re excited to tell the world about Hart House and excited to serve the food.”

Hart began his plant-based diet after his highly-publicized 2019 car accident. During an interview with Joe Rogan in 2020, he revealed the near-death ordeal prompted him to live a healthier lifestyle, which included the removal of red meat, fish and seafood from diet. Hart told Rogan, “Just because you make the decision to go and try plant-based, doesn’t mean you have to [ be engulfed] in that world. Learn it, understand it, and see if there are benefits that work for you.”

Nick Cannon Opens up on His Love Life, Says He Is Considering a Vasectomy

Nick Cannon

Is Nick Cannon’s run of babies coming to a close? Speaking with E! News’ Daily Pop, Nick revealed that he checked out the details of a vasectomy, cutting short his ability to produce children.

“I don’t know if I would’ve designed it this way, but it’s one of those things when you’re blessed with the gifts of children — and as we all know, I’ve been through so much, I find solace, I find peace in my children and I find purpose,” Cannon said.

You can hear it from Nick below.

Earlier this year, Cannon welcomed baby number eight, leading to his friend Kevin Hart buying him a condom vending machine as a joke.

“I see u got my gift @nickcannon ….GOTCHA BITCH!!!!!!” Hart wrote on Instagram. “Now u don’t have an excuse because the condoms are free #PrankWars.”

Back in September, the war between the two made it to the premiere of Cannon’s new daytime talk show as he shared that he wrapped Hart’s private jet with his face.
