Kanye West Asks For Joint Custody Of His And Kim Kardashian’s Kids In Their Divorce

Kanye West and Kim Kardashian’s divorce is proceeding relatively smoothly, all things considered. According to TMZ, Kanye has filed a response to Kim’s divorce petition, and it appears they are on the same page. Kanye asks for joint custody of their four kids, as both remain committed to co-parenting. Kanye also wants to ensure that neither party receives spousal support and both pay their own legal fees. Considering both have had headlines valuing them at a billion dollars each in recent months, they should both be able to manage without it — even after taking iffy accounting into, well, account.

The couple signed a prenuptial agreement, so TMZ doesn’t foresee any issues dividing their respective assets. And while Kanye’s filing is a little late — Kim filed her documents back in February — there won’t be any problems there either. In the wake of Kim’s filing, People reported that Kanye attributed her decision to his failed presidential campaign, although it was clear in hindsight that trouble had been brewing for a while. Kanye’s outburst at a South Carolina campaign rally came after several social media explosions, including one in July of 2020 in which he claimed Kim tried to “lock me up” and called out her mother Kris, and similar rants in 2018 in which he seemed to draw a link between Kim and their neighbor/Kanye’s rival Drake.

A Career-Spanning Kanye West Documentary Is Reportedly Heading To Netflix

The tale of Kanye West has taken a bunch of turns over the past couple years, but even before that, his story was one of music’s more fascinating. Now that journey will reportedly be chronicled in a new documentary series that is coming to Netflix.

According to Billboard, Netflix reportedly acquired the currently untitled project from TIME Studios and Coodie & Chike (the duo of Clarence “Coodie” Simmons and Chike Ozah) for $30 million, and it is apparently set to debut on Netflix later in 2021.

Coodie & Chike directed two early West videos, for “Through The Wire” and “Jesus Walks,” and have since made some notable documentaries. Those include the 30 For 30 film Benji (a 2012 documentary about the death of promising basketball player Ben Wilson) and the 2019 Netflix documentary A Kid From Coney Island (about former NBA star Stephon Marbury). The duo has apparently been filming West since the ’90s, meaning the duo is working with plenty of footage from the past two decades.

The film will reportedly use previously unseen footage and home videos and will “deal with the death of West’s mother, Donda West, and the impact it had on the rapper; his personal evolution in recent years; his successful move into fashion design and his unsuccessful run for President in 2020.” West is not involved in the production in a creative capacity.

Eminem Recorded A Version Of Rihanna’s Hit Single ‘Diamonds’ Before She Did

“Diamonds” has proven to be one of the biggest hits of Rihanna’s career, but it almost wasn’t her song at all. In fact, Eminem actually recorded a version of it before she did, according to the song’s co-producer, Benny Blanco.

Speaking about the track with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Blanco revealed that he originally intended the song to be for Kanye West or Lana Del Rey:

“We wanted it to be a Kanye song or a Lana Del Ray song, I remember, at first. And we were like, ‘OK, yeah, cool, let’s do that.’ And then, I remember [song co-writer] Sia, just writing. Sia, being Sia, she can write like 700 songs in one second. This was before Uber and she was like, ‘ I just called the car. It says it’s going to be 15 minutes. Pull up a beat.’ Pull up a beat…. melody, lyrics, everything. Done, OK. Then, we’re listening to it a few days later, and [song co-producer] Stargate’s like, ‘Yo, we’re giving this song to Rihanna. It’s going to go.’ And I was like, ‘I don’t know, man. Should we keep the beat for Kanye? I don’t know about it. I don’t know if it’s… I don’t know.’

He then went on to discuss how he learned that Eminem had actually recorded a version of the track before Rihanna did:

“Then I remember I had given a beat CD like a month earlier to Paul Rosenberg to give to Eminem. And apparently, Eminem had done a song to it, too, and I didn’t even know. […] Paul was like, ‘Man, Em had that beat on hold.’ I was like, ‘What? I didn’t even know.’ So, I’m sitting there, and then I finally am like, ‘You know what, Stargate?’ I let go. I said, ‘You guys know better. Let’s do it.’ She cut the song. First of all, the second she cut the song, they were completely right. I was like, ‘This is the best song I’ve ever done.’ And then, this is how life works, full circle: Kanye West does a remix to the song.”

Roddy Ricch Shares The Wisdom He Learned From Meeting Kanye West

Roddy Ricch may be best known for his music thanks to his low-profile approach to fame, but he certainly has an interesting philosophy about music as his legacy. That’s thanks to his meeting with Kanye West in Calabasas, according to Roddy himself in a new profile in Complex. Revealing his pick for greatest album of all time, he grants that distinction to My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and recounts the wisdom Kanye shared when they finally got to meet.

“The main thing I learned from Kanye was expansion,” Roddy says.

“I pulled up on him in Calabasas. He showed me there’s more to life than just music. He taught me [about] really building empires. The empire you build with music, you could build it in other areas, like fashion, too. You’ve got clothes, or you’ve got a drink, or you’ve got this or that, and it’s all attached to you. He was building things that don’t got nothing to do with music, with different rooms having different ideas. Even building up a community or a civilization that can start and become something else. That’s a crazy thing to do. Just growing your own produce, and all these different things… It opened my mind.”

Roddy also reveals the best thing that’s happened to him in the two years since he blew up thanks to his Grammy-nominated hits “Racks In The Middle” and “The Box”: Becoming a father. “Having my son,” he tells Complex. “That was the most important.”
