Chad Johnson Begs Aaron Rodgers Not To Rush Return From Injury

Chad Johnson made an impassioned plea to Aaron Rodgers this week, asking the veteran QB to stay sidelined instead of trying to force an expedited return to the field. “Don’t do it. You’re going to reinjure yourself. It’s too soon. You have to understand. There are few injuries that you don’t want to play with. You don’t want to play with anything having to do with your groin, your Achilles, or your knees. You don’t rush back from those. I don’t care what your doctors tell you,” Johnson said via TMZ.

Rodgers went down four plays into his debut with the Jets back in September. However, the alternative medicine practitioner has recently hinted that he is just a few weeks away from being ready to play again. Given that Achilles tears tend to need 6-9 months to heal, it’s practically a miracle that Rodgers is seemingly bouncing back from one in half that time. Without Rodgers at the helm, the Jets are 4-4. The team has one of the best defenses in the league most weeks. However, there is little to no life on offense to help win games. This week, the Jets take on the 4-5 Raiders in Vegas. The Jets are favored by a single point in the matchup.

Rodgers Making Millions From Pat McAfee Show Appearances

However, the time on injured reserve hasn’t been all bad for Rodgers. According to a New York Post report last month, Rodgers is making at least seven figures a year for his weekly segment on Pat McAfee’s ESPN show. Rodgers has made a weekly Monday appearance on McAfee’s show ever since he moved to ESPN in September. “Aaron has made over $1,000,000 with us, for sure,” McAfee told the Post via direct message. It’s unknown if Alabama coach Nick Saban, who also does a weekly segment, is also paid to appear.

Many of Rodgers’ major offseason revelations were made on McAfee’s show, both before and after it moved to ESPN. Trade rumors, the darkness retreat, his aggressive rehab plan. All of those happened on McAfee’s show. Of course, there’s no rule against Rodgers getting paid for media appearances. However, it takes some of the veneer off McAfee’s brand. The former punter had built a reputation as a foul-mouthed frat bro who naturally attracted like-minded individuals to him. While he might still do that for his audiences, it appears his guests need a fat check to hang out with him.

Dalvin Cook To Discuss Trade With Jets

Dalvin Cook, frustrated with his lack of playing time, has stated he will be speak with the Jets front office about the possibility of a trade. “It’s something I can’t control, that my name is being floated around in trade rumors. It might be a good thing. Maybe [it’s] a bad thing,” Cook told reporters. Furthermore, while Cook did not state that he necessarily wanted to be traded, he did clarify that he was willing to do what was “best for everybody”.

Cook, who was released by the Vikings during the offseason, signed with the Jets after a lack of a competitive market emerged for his services. At the time of his signing, Cook said he and RB1 Breece Hall would be the best backfield duo in the league. While Hall has a league-high yards per carry, Cook is dead last. Through six games, Cook has 39 carries and just 109 yards. While never a big YPC player, Cook entered 2023 on the back of four consecutive 1000-yard seasons.

Cook Contract Likely To Deter Suitors

It’s clear that Cook wants to be in an environment where he is getting more touches per game. However, there aren’t a lot of opportunities like that in the league right now. Furthermore, having Cook active for games while on the 53-man roster will cost a team $3.3 million for the rest of the season. It’s simply not an appealing prospect for most of the league.

However, that leaves Cook in limbo and deeply frustrated about it. “Of course it’s frustrating. I’m an honest person, man. I work. I want to play. That’s just anyway. And, yeah, it’s frustrating. It’s new for me. I come from getting the ball 20 times a game, or however many times. Of course it’s frustrating. It’s something that I’ve been adapting to,” Cook said. “I thought teaming up with Breece would be the best thing in the world for the New York Jets. We all thought it was going to be more than what it is. But I wasn’t thinking of a percentage of him getting the ball or me getting the ball. I wasn’t thinking like that. I just thought … the touches will get spread around.”

Travis Kelce was spotted leaving Taylor Swift’s apartment in New York City around 11:00 AM on Sunday after spending the night. The departure came just hours before the star tight end’s Kansas City Chiefs were set to take on the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ.

According to sources for Page Six, Kelce left the apartment in Swift’s black Range Rover, which dropped him off at his hotel across the river. The outlet says Kelce met up with Swift after she had a girls’ night out with Sophie Turner and Blake Lively. The group dined at Emilio’s Ballato in Soho, while Kelce, instead, was spotted at Meduza Mediterrania in the Meatpacking district.

The sleepover comes after Swift attended the Chiefs’ win over the Chicago Bears in Kansas City, last weekend. Kelce finally opened up about their relationship afterward, during an episode of his and his brother Jason’s podcast, New Heights. “Shout out to Taylor for pullin’ up; that was pretty ballsy, that was pretty ballsy, yeah. I just thought it was awesome how everybody in the suite had nothing but great things to say about her. You know?” Kelce said.

He further said: “The friends, the family. She looked amazing. Everybody was talking about her in a great light. And on top of that, the day went perfect for Chiefs fans, of course. Last night, Aaron Rodgers injured his Achilles and he is now out for the year. The Jets are going to have to rely on Zach Wilson, and many believe this would be ill-advised. Consequently, Kap’s agent has decided to reach out to the Jets to see if his client can get a workout.

Around Rodgers was a young, exciting core of players who could turn the long-ailing franchise into a perennial contender.

However, there has been trouble bubbling under the surface for some time. First, there was Denzel Mims, the intriguing 2020 rookie who became a terrible sophomore receiver and then beefed with the team with his lack of playing time. Then there’s the fact that O-Line cornerstone Quinnen Williams has removed the team name from his Twitter bio amid tense contract discussions. Now, much more serious claims have emerged.

Two players have both come out with bombshell claims that the New York Jets mishandled injuries sustained by the players. The first claim came from running back Ty Johnson. A sixth-round pick by the Lions in 2019, Johnson joined the Jets in 2020. However, Johnson was waived earlier in 2023 after sustaining a torn pectoral during non-team workouts. After telling the Jets’ medical staff, Johnson claims he was pressured into undergoing surgery. After eventually agreeing to the procedure, Johnson was cut just days later. As a result, Johnson believes that this has negatively affected his chances to sign with a new team.

One day later (May 22), offensive tackle Mekhi Becton came forward with similar claims. While Becton is still on the team, he has put the medical staff on blast. His claims dated back to a position change ahead of the 2022 season. “I got forced to play a position I don’t play, and then I was pretty much telling them I wasn’t feeling good the whole time throughout camp, and I was told I shouldn’t be complaining,” Becton said. “Go out there and do it. I was limping throughout the whole practice, and I just took a step and my knee buckled and I got hurt again and had to get reconstructive surgery.” The Jets have not responded to either allegation but especially given that Becton is still with the team, it’s still to be a very tense period in New York.
