This weekend, Jake Paul was in Saudi Arabia for his boxing match against Tommy Fury, a fight that Paul ended up losing in a split decision. However, there might be an asterisk on Paul’s first professional boxing L: Drake bet $400K on Paul to win, and as we know, the “Drake Curse” (the apparent tendency for teams and athletes to lose after Drake publicly supports them) is real. After the fight, Paul himself addressed this.

In a post-fight press conference, a reporter mentioned Drake’s bet and ask if Paul thinks the “curse” impacted him. He laughed and said, “F*ck, This is Drake’s fault! Drake, bro! Why you do this to me?!”

He continued, “Nah, it’s my fault, but $400,000 is nothing to him, so… he’s won a lot of money betting on me before, so he’s probably about even now. Sorry, Drake. I’ma get that W in the rematch.”

Drake’s $400K bet was for Paul to win the fight by knockout. As TMZ notes, had that happened, Drake would have found himself about $1.4 million richer. Apparently, though, that wasn’t part of God’s plan. Drake performed better with his Super Bowl gambling, though, taking home $1.4 million after placing around $1 million in bets.

Jake Paul’s run as an undefeated boxer is over. On Sunday, Paul faced Tommy Fury, the half-brother of heavyweight titan Tyson Fury, and lost in a split decision. The cards from Saudi Arabia fight read 74-75, 76-73, 76-73.

Coming into the fight, Paul was a favorite, drawing heavy bets from the likes of Drake. In the end, he was on the losing end in front of a crowd that featured Kevin Hart, Mike Tyson, Deontay Wilder, and more.

Paul has a rematch clause, which he stated he would use. Despite the loss, Paul had a bright outlook on his own life and career.

“I’ve already won in life,” Paul said. “I’ve won in every single way. I have an amazing family, amazing friends, amazing work ethic. I made it farther than I ever thought I would and beyond. This is a humbling experience. I’ll take it on the chin and come back.”

He added, “Don’t judge me by my wins. Judge me by my losses. I’ll come back. I think we deserve that rematch.”

The serial gambler he is, Drake hit Instagram and showed he dropped $400K over at Stake for Paul to win by KO. The money put up would have brought him back $1.4 million. It’s now a donation.

Jake Paul lost by split decision to Tommy Fury, the half-brother of heavyweight champion Tyson Fury. Fury got the best of Paul throughout the match, but Paul scored a knockdown in the eighth round. Speaking after the match, Paul stated he would be down for a rematch.

“This is my first main event,” Fury said. “I’m only going to go stronger. I’m going to go bigger. I’m only going to go better.

“If he wants a rematch, bring it on.”

Drake and Paul have interacted multiple times over the years. Back in 2021, he revealed on his brother Logan’s podcast that the rapper DM’d him after one of his fights. “Drake DM’d me last night,” he said on the Impaulsive podcast. “[It was] one of the best moments of my life. He says, ‘You’re a demon crow, wow. How much you make for a one-minute set tonight?’” Then, in 2022, Paul shared a picture with Drake while welcoming in the new year.

As for the rest of his comments after the fight, Paul also confirmed that he’s interested in a rematch. “All respect to Tommy, he won,” he said. “Don’t judge me by my wins, judge me by my losses. We deserve that rematch. I don’t know that I agree [with the scorecards]. I got a 10-8 round twice. … So, this is definitely a humbling experience. Other users also called back to Drake’s massive $400,000 bet on Jake Paul to knock out Tommy Fury. He shared the bet on Saturday night. “Drake realizing the script changed for Jake Paul vs Tommy Fury,” one user captioned a photo of the Toronto rapper checking his phone.

As for the reactions from the fighters themselves, Fury said that he’s now cemented his own legacy separate from being Tyson Fury’s brother. “For the past two years, this is all that has consumed my life. The loss marks the first for Paul in his boxing career. Fury remains undefeated. Cristiano Ronaldo, Deontay Wilder, Mike Tyson, and more stars watched on from inside the arena.

Both Paul and Fury landed big shots throughout the fight. However, Fury finished as the more aggressive fighter. He threw 302 punches while landing 88 of them. Paul, on the other hand, threw 157 punches and landed 49. In the end, two judges sided with Fury and one went with Paul.

After the fight, Paul remarked that he feels he deserves a rematch. “This is definitely a humbling experience,” Paul said after the fight. “I’ll take it on the chin and we can run it back.” He added: “All respect to Tommy he won, don’t judge me by my wins judge me by my losses, I’ll come back. I think we deserve a rematch, it was a good fight, a close fight.”

Fury dedicated the win to his girlfriend, Molly-Mae Hague, and the couple’s newborn baby daughter, Bambi. “Tonight I made my own legacy. Drake’s love of gambling has been well-documented over the years. The Toronto hitmaker is known for placing insanely expensive bets at various sporting events. Most recently, the rapper bet nearly half $1 million — $400k to be exact — for Youtuber turned boxing star Jake Paul to knock out Tommy Fury in their upcoming bout.

Paul and Fury will fight today (Sunday, February 26) at the Diriyah Arena in Saudi Arabia. “Knock knock @stake,” the rapper wrote in an Instagram post.

However, unlike his success in music, he isn’t always lucky when it comes to making bets. The last fighter he bet on, UFC fighter Israel Adesanya, cost him $ 2 million.

But in Drake’s case, it’s more than a case of bad luck. It’s been floated around that an alleged curse follows the rapper. The hilarious notion (but very accurate in some cases) has become its own phenomenon. It always starts the same. Drake ends up rooting for a specific sports team or individual, and they inevitably lose.

That doesn’t mean the “Rich Flex” rapper hasn’t had some big wins in the past. Following Super Bowl LVII, Drake won $1.4 million after placing a 700k bet that the Kansas City Chiefs would defeat the Philadelphia Eagles.

Saturday’s bet is far from the first gamble Drake has shared on social media. He’s promoted his bets on various sporting events through Stake on Instagram for years.
