[WATCH] Napoleon Says Tupac Respected Ice Cube So Much He Would Have Dissed Common

Tupac had his fair share of beef during his career, but according to Napoleon, Pac had his eyes set on Chicago legend Common. In The Art of Dialogue, Napoleon revealed that his love for Ice Cube made him want to go at Common. In case you are unfamiliar, Common and Ice Cube had an exchange in the 90s, which clearly settled as they starred in Barbershop together and shared the stage multiple times.

“I remember when the East Coast/West Coast thing was heating up, I think Common and Cube was going through their beef, like they were dissing each other,” Napoleon said. “I remember ‘Pac was like, ‘See, if I was cool with Cube right now, I’d be going after Common for him, but now I’m staying out of it.’”

Napoleon revealed Pac had love for Cube, stating, “I never heard him say anything negative about him.”

Shedding more on the Common side, Napoleon thinks he and Pac are similar. “Good thing he didn’t go at Common ’cause they like the same. If they ever had met each other, they would’ve had a lot of love and respect for each other.”

You can hear it all below.

2pac Reportedly Wanted To Diss Common While Beefing With Ice Cube

During Common and Ice Cube’s rap beef in the mid-90s there was reportedly someone else who wanted in, 2pac. The revelation comes from former Outlawz member and one of Pac’s protégés Napoleon. He sat down with The Art Of Dialogue to explain where Pac fit into the often-forgotten Common and Ice Cube beef. ““I remember when the East Coast-West Coast thing was heating up, I think Common and Cube was going through their beef, like they were dissing each other,” he explains in the clip. “I remember ‘Pac was like, ‘See, if I was cool with Cube right now, I’d be going after Common for him, but now I’m staying out of it.’”

Reportedly the only thing keeping 2pac from chiming in was some friction he had with Cube at the time. Despite that, Napoleon says Pac still admired Cube. “‘Pac had a lot of love for Cube. I never heard him say anything negative about him. I think at one particular time they were closer, and maybe they just went their separate ways. But that’s the only thing I heard him say about Cube, but he definitely respected Cube.” He ends the segment by saying he’s glad that Pac never went after Common because he thinks the two would have really understood each other.

2pac Almost Backed Ice Cube In His Common Beef

Interest in 2pac and his story rose greatly in recent weeks. That started when Las Vegas Police raided a home last month. They later confirmed was in connection with the investigation into 2pac’s murder. That house belonged to Keefe D, someone who has long been associated with the rapper’s killing.

Even more interest sparked up when a ring worn by 2pac in one of his final public appearances became the highest selling piece of hip-hop memorabilia ever sold at auction. It became even more interesting when Drake was revealed to be the one who purchased the ring. What do you think of 2pac wanting to “go at” Common during his beef with Ice Cube? Let us know in the comment section below.

On 8/8/88, Ice Cube, MC Ren, DJ Yella, Eazy E, along with the legendary Dr. Dre from the World Class Wreckin’ Crew put together the second N.W.A. album called Straight Outta Compton. This album came on the heels of Eazy E’s debut release, Eazy E, and The Posse, which led Eazy E and his Ruthless Records label partner Jerry Heller to put out another release exploiting the gang culture that saturated the West Coast, giving birth to what is known as “gangsta rap’. Their debut release, N.W.A. And The Posse was already certified and had anticipating fans around the world the second time around.

Some of the most lethal, straight no chaser lyrical assaults can be heard on tracks like the “Dopeman” remix, “Gangsta Gangsta,” and the anti-cop anthem “Fuck The Police.” What made this album so unique was that it rose to platinum status with no radio play or major promotion. The album even drew attention from the federal government, with the FBI and U.S. Secret Service sending letters to Ruthless about the violent message of “Fuck The Police.” N.W.A.’s popularity with the law increased their fan base and record sales. This album was also when Dr. Dre was officially recognized as the legendary producer he has evolved into today. Careers from both coasts and everywhere in between was created from the Straight Outta Compton prototype.

The Source salutes Cube, Ren, Dre, the Wright family, DJ Yella, and the Arabian Prince for this unforgettable masterpiece!

Ice Cube Seemed Quite Impressed With Harry Mack’s “TMNT” Freestyle: Watch

If you haven’t heard by now, there’s a new creative animated movie in town to take over your TikTok feeds with some fun- and bars, too. Moreover, Harry Mack just teamed up with the cast of the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, along with writer Seth Rogen and fellow cast member and very special guest, Ice Cube. The rapper posted a YouTube video of the occasion to promote the film and also showcase his sick freestyle for them. Of course, the freestyle came with a challenge: work in a set of words that each of the six film collaborators chose. After running them down, Mack breezed through “ooze,” “mayhem,” “manhole,” “superfly” (Cube’s character), “pepperoni,” and “warthog” with ease, and the West Coast legend was impressed.

Not only was Ice Cube bobbing his head the whole way through, but he also had some kind words for Harry Mack at the end. “That was the truth,” he told the YouTube rapper, which is far from the first time that a more established MC commended him. “That was the truth right there, good, without a doubt. Off the dome is the hardest rhyming, it’s the hardest rap you can do is off the dome. And he did it with ease. You a master. Yeah, without a doubt, I know what you just did, baby.”

Ice Cube Stamps Harry Mack’s Freestyle With His Seal Of Approval

Then, Harry Mack took to his social media to celebrate the honor. “Yoooo this was *NSANE!!” he captioned a clip of it on Instagram. “I was a huge fan of the TMNT cartoons as a kid, even had some of the action figures. Being involved with @tmntmovie in any capacity is dope- but naw, this was next level. Shout out to one of the dopest, most influential rappers of ALL TIME @icecube. For not only listening to my freestyle, but also giving mad props after I was done. That alone is enough motivation to keep me going for decades man I swear.”

“And I gotta say, hearing the iconic @sethrogen laugh in person was beyond special,” he continued. “That man is such a legend. Much love to the full turtle cast as well for rocking with my TikTok and already knowing who I was when I showed up, that was such an awesome surprise for me. The energy was top notch this whole day. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to do what I love for people I deeply respect. Go peep that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem in theatres August 2, it’s gonna be crazyyy.” Apparently Mack does this kind of thing often, as he did so for the Transformers cast not too long ago. Regardless, for more news and the latest updates on Ice Cube and Harry Mack, check back in with HNHH.

Ice Cube Joins Katty Customs and Just Blaze In The Latest Episode Of ‘Fresh Pair’

Fresh Pair season two continues with another fire episode featuring a legendary hip-hop guest that not only helped define the genre but solidified himself as a cultural icon, transcending from rapper to household name status and earning a place on many people’s Mount Rushmore of West Coast hip-hop (also a spot he declared for himself by starting Mt. Westmore).

In the latest episode of Fresh Pair, sneaker-customizer-to-the-stars Katty Customs and hip-hop architect Just Blaze are joined by Ice Cube, who is gifted a custom pair of inspired Air Force 1s, chock-full of details that celebrate Cube’s long and storied career.

If you know anything about Ice Cube — we’re going to assume you do — you’re well aware that his rap moniker isn’t just a random grouping of words. Cube is supremely cool, but even a pair of sunglasses and his famously chill demeanor wasn’t enough to mask his excitement over what Katty and Just cooked up for him. After the big sneaker reveal, Cube looked at his custom AF-1s like a kid in a candy store, eyes wide with wonder.

Have you ever heard Ice Cube say “wow” and mean it? That alone makes this episode a must-watch.

The fresh pair led Cube to share stories about how he first linked up with Hank Shocklee in the wake of NWA’s breakup, the making of his legendary album Death Certificate, and explain how “It Was a Good Day” was essentially the song version of his movie Friday. But that’s not all, Cube also talked a bit about the beef between The Big 3 and the NBA, and revealed his top five favorite storytelling rap tracks. It’s a deep interview with a dope pair of shoes and one of the most entertaining personalities in all of hip-hop — you already know what to do!

Ice Cube Popped Up On Tucker Carlson’s Show And Explained Why He Rejected The COVID-19 Vaccine

Tucker Carlson’s Twitter show drew a non-trivial amount of eyeballs when it debuted in June, but viewership numbers have been dwindling since then. Still, he presses on, and on his latest episode shared yesterday (July 26), he was joined by Ice Cube, and the pair spent about a quarter of the 12-minute episode talking about the COVID-19 vaccine, specifically about why the rapper didn’t get it.

Carlson asked why Ice didn’t take the vaccine, noting he had “a direct order” to do so, and the rapper responded, “Yeah, I’m not real good with direct orders. […] No, it wasn’t ready. You know, it was six-month kind of rush job and I didn’t feel safe.”

Carlson jumped in, “But they told you you were safe,” and Ice responded, “I know what they said [laughs]. I know what they said, and I heard them. I heard them loud and clear, but it’s not their decision. There’s no repercussions if they’re wrong, but I can get all the repercussions if they’re wrong.”

The host then asked if it was a tough choice for Ice to make and he said, “No, it wasn’t a tough call. I wanted to be an example for my kids, really make sure they wouldn’t take it either, show them that I want to stand on my convictions and that I was willing to lose $9 million and more because we’ve probably lost more since then.”

The part about losing $9 million refers to what he said in a 2022 interview: “I turned down a movie because I didn’t want to get the motherf*cking jab. I turned down $9 million. I didn’t want get the jab. F*ck that jab. F*ck ya’ll for trying to make me get it. I don’t know how Hollywood feels about me right now.”

Elsewhere in the Carlson conversation, Ice noted he never intended for his vaccination status to be a matter of public concern, saying, “I never told anyone not to get vaccinated publicly. That was never my message to the world. I didn’t even want people to know whether I got vaccinated or not. I was pretty upset that that even came out, because I was just gonna quietly, you know, just not take it and deal with the consequences as they came.”

Carlson, for the record, proudly proclaimed he didn’t get the vaccine either: When Ice asked if he got the jab, the host exclaimed, “Of course not!”

Ice Cube’s Top 5 Storytelling Rap Songs Include Classics From Slick Rick, Snoop Dogg, And More

A couple of years back, Ice Cube shared some of his storytelling inspirations with Uproxx for People’s Party With Talib Kweli. He popped back into Uproxx Studios in LA recently, this time, to sit down with Just Blaze and Katty Customs for Fresh Pair, and once again talked storytelling in hip-hop. This time around, he shared his five favorite narrative rap songs, which he called “the best hip-hop ever.”

Of course, Ice Cube himself wrote what has long been considered to be one of hip-hop’s top storytelling raps in his 1992 hit single “It Was A Good Day.” The second single from his third solo album, The Predator, “It Was A Good Day” peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and has been the subject of a running joke in internet culture of people trying to determine just which day Cube describes in the song (he maintains he had no particular day in mind, but that hasn’t stopped online sleuths from trying). It was also recently reproduced by Logic, drawing mixed reactions from fans — although the original artist liked it.

Somehow, Cube’s list of the best five storytelling songs does not include his own rap staple, but does have some old-school classics. Among them: Timeless, foundational hip-hop hits from Slick Rick, Dana Dane, Boogie Down Productions, and at least one left field take (it’s not really much of a story, after all).

You can find out which songs Ice Cube picked in the preview clip above; the full episode drops Wednesday, 7/26 at 3pmET / 12pmPT.

[WATCH] Ice Cube Says “No Vaseline” Is Better Diss Song Than 2Pac’s “Hit ‘Em Up”

Screen Shot 2023 07 24 at 2.43.26 PM

On the most recent episode of DJ Whoo Kid’s “Whoo’s House” podcast, West Coast rap legend Ice Cube talked about the evolution of his BIG3 basketball league as well as the growth of the career of the rapper/actor. Cube also spoke about a list of the “most unforgettable diss tracks in Hip Hop history”, in which Tupac’s “Hit ‘Em Up” took the pole position and his epic “No Vaseline” track aimed at N.W.A. was placed at a modest third.

Cube reaction to ‘Pac beating him on the list? “How’s 2Pac number one when he needed help on that record?” before saying, “Me, ‘No Vaseline,’ one MC.” When Nas’ “Ether trck was mentioned, Cube said, “I love Nas but it’s not. Took out four n***as and the manager. I mean, damn! Got to give me credit for that.” He added, “[The] group was over. I don’t know if they made another record after that. So, nah man. Sorry!”
