Future Hangs Out In Little Havana In His Laid-Back ‘Holy Ghost’ Video

Little Havana is having kind of a moment in hip-hop. Not only did Rick Ross offer a musical ode to the Miami neighborhood on his latest album but now Future has also given a glimpse of a day in the life there with his new video for “Holy Ghost.” Strolling down the street one evening, a shirtless Future finds himself hanging out on the porch with some residents, playing dominoes, and having what appears to be one heck of a great time with the natives, who all sport matching house arrest monitors on their ankles.

The implication is clear; no matter where Future ends up, he’ll always find his people. Despite our differences, we have a lot more in common. If you doubt it, just break out the dominoes and watch what happens. And because it’s a rap video, of course, they found a way to get some booty in the clip too, via a scantily-clad woman hanging up laundry on a clothesline.

“Holy Ghost” is track 13 on Future’s latest album, I Never Liked You, which was released on April 29 via Freebandz and Epic Records. Sporting the singles “Worst Day,” “Wait For U,” and “Keep It Burnin,” the album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, becoming Future’s seventh album to do so. Future has since released one more video, for the song “Puffin On Zootiez.”

Future’s Inebriated ‘Puffin On Zootiez’ Video Successfully Recreates The Feeling Of Being Stoned

Another standout single from Future’s new album, I Never Liked You, has received the video treatment. Unlike the video for “Wait For You,” which imagines Future and Drake as medieval knights, or the more abstract “Keep It Burning” video with Kanye West, the new video for “Puffin On Zootiez” takes a more literal approach, visually recreating the feeling of being extremely stoned with warped, smoky visuals. Future mainly appears in blurry, out-of-focus close-ups and performance shots seen through kaleidoscopic lenses.

I Never Liked You, Future’s ninth studio album, was also one of his most successful, landing at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 222,000 equivalent units sold — the biggest release of 2022 at the time. While that number was eventually blown away by Kendrick Lamar and his new album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers, those 222,000 units are reflective of Future’s continued popularity after over a decade in the rap spotlight. In addition to being a big moment for Future, though, it also gave collaborators like Drake and Tems big accomplishments. “Wait For You” gave Drake his tenth No. 1 single on the Hot 100, making him the first rapper with that achievement. Tems’ appearance on the single also made her the first African artist to ever debut at No. 1 on the Hot 100.

Future Praises Tems And Says Her ‘Voice Is Amazing’ After Their Song With Drake Goes No. 1

Despite the long list of albums, mixtapes, and more that fill up his discography, it took Future well over a decade to earn his first No. 1 song as a lead artist. That feat came earlier this week when “Wait For U” with Tems and Drake debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 chart. The song is a highlight on Future’s ninth album I Never Liked You, which he released at the end of last month. Days after “Wait For U” reached No. 1, Future hopped on Twitter to praise Tems and share how the song came together.

“Soon as I heard the @temsbaby sample over @atljacobbeatz Instantly connected to my soul,’ he wrote in one tweet. Tems’ vocals on “Wait For U” are actually a sample from her 2020 song “Higher” which lives on her For Broken Ears project. Future continued his praises in later tweets. “@temsbaby VOICE IS AMAZING,” he wrote. In a final post, Future thanked Tems for her contribution to “Wait For U.”

“Even tho wait for u is a sample and not an original recording I still put Featuring @temsbaby if u wasn’t familiar with her work,” he wrote. “Thank u Tems.”

Future’s praises come after he and Drake released a Medieval-themed video for the chart-topping song.

Tems Becomes The First African Artist To Ever Debut At No. 1 On The Hot 100

Songs don’t debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart all that often: Of the 1,137 songs that have ever topped the chart in its history, just 61 of them debuted on top. It’s become a more common feat recently, though, as 33 of those No. 1 debuts arrived in 2018 or later. These totals all count the latest one from today, as Future, Drake, and Tems’Wait For U” is now the 61st song to debut at No. 1.

This was big for Drake, as it made him the first rapper with ten No. 1 singles. It was also a major moment for Future, as it made him just the fifth artist to ever have a song debut at No. 1 on the Hot 100 and an album (I Never Liked You) premiere on top of the Billboard 200 in the same week.

This is a historic moment for Tems, too: The Nigerian singer is now officially the first artist from Africa to have a song debut at No. 1 on the Hot 100. She’s also only the second Nigerian artist to go No. 1 at all; Wizkid did it first when he was featured on Drake’s No. 1 hit “One Dance” in 2016.

This is also Tems’ second top-10 single, as her and Wizkid’s “Essence” peaked at No. 9 in 2021.

Drake Makes Rap History As His And Future’s ‘Wait For U’ Becomes His Tenth No. 1 Single

It’s a good time to be Future right now: His new album I Never Liked You just debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart thanks to the biggest week of 2022. Now, Future is on top of the Hot 100, too: On the new chart dated May 14, Future, Drake, and Tems’ “Wait For U” debuts at No. 1.

This is big for Drake, too, as it makes him the first rapper with ten No. 1 songs and one of just a few artists to ever notch that many. He, Janet Jackson, and Stevie Wonder each have ten, Whitney Houston has 11, Madonna and The Supremes have 12, Michael Jackson has 13, Rihanna has 14, Mariah Carey has 19, and The Beatles have 20.

Meanwhile, this latest entry extends a number of records Drake already held: He now has 262 total Hot 100 entries, 147 top-40 entries, 55 top-10 entries, and 40 top-ten debuts, all of which are the most of all time.

It’s not just Drake making history, though, as Future is now just the fifth artist in history to have a song debut at No. 1 on the Hot 100 and an album premiere on top of the Billboard 200 in the same week.

Future also has a few other songs in the top ten: “Puffin On Zootiez” is No. 4, “712PM” is No. 8, and “I’m Dat N****” is No. 10. All songs from the standard edition of I Never Liked You are actually on the Hot 100 this week, bringing Future’s career total to 149 songs to ever appear on the chart. That moves him to fifth all time, behind Taylor Swift (16), Lil Wayne (180), Glee (262), and Drake (262).

Future’s ‘I Never Liked You’ Goes No. 1 With The Biggest Week Of 2022

It’s been almost seven years since Future obtained his first No. 1 album. He earned it with his 2015 third album DS2 which many herald as a classic in his discography. Future’s stardom was cemented in the following years, especially in 2017 when he released two albums — Future and Hndrxx — in the span of two weeks with both topping the charts. Nowadays, Future’s output is not what it used to be, but his chart performance has remained the same. At the end of last month, Future released his ninth album I Never Liked You and many expected it to debut at No. 1. Those expectations have come true thanks to the latest chart from Billboard.

For the Billboard 200 dated May 14, 2022, Future’s I Never Liked You went No. 1 thanks to 222,000 album units sold in its first week. That number is comprised of 214,000 streaming equivalent album units which equates to 283.75 million on-demand official streams of the album’s songs. I Never Liked You also posted 6,500 pure album sales.

With its first-week sales of 222,000 units, Future’s I Never Liked You earns the biggest debut of any album released in 2022. It’s also the highest sales week since Adele’s 30 posted 280,000 units in the week ending on December 2, 2021. Additionally, I Never Liked You had the biggest debut of any hip-hop/R&B album since Drake’s Certified Lover Boy posted 613,000 album sales last September.

Future’s latest No. 1 gives him his eighth chart-topping release in the last seven years which is the most by any artist in that timespan.

Future And Drake Star In A Medieval Fairytale With Their ‘Wait For U’ Video

Though regularly cited and often slighted for his relentless hedonistic nature, Future has proven yet again that he’s just as committed to giving the people what they want in his new visual for the I Never Liked You standout record “Wait For U” featuring Drake and Tems. The Director X-lead video opens up with an introduction for viewers to the impending toxic king fairytale, set in medieval times. Future finds himself at odds with the queen after being betrayed by a knight played by 4YE’s Trey Richards, whose snitching leads him to later be killed by the 38-year-old.

Drake appears later in the video, embarking on his own journey to rescue a damsel from two villains. In the end, the woman he sought to rescue ends up saving him from an untimely death. While Tems is noticeably absent, the song’s producer ATL Jacob and rapper Strick both make cameo appearances.

I Never Liked You was released on April 29 under Freebandz and Epic Records. In addition to Drake and Tems, the album featured Kanye West, Gunna, Young Thug, EST Gee, Kodak Black, and later added Babyface Ray, Lil Baby, 42 Dugg, Lil Durk and Young Scooter on the six deluxe tracks released Monday (May 2).

Future’s Kanye West-Designed ‘I Never Liked You’ Merch Collection Includes A Silk Sleep Mask

After executive producing Kanye West’s latest, as-yet-mostly-unavailable-for-purchase-or-streaming album Donda 2, Future is riding high on the success of his own new album, I Never Liked You. Now, Kanye is returning the favor by co-designing a new line of merchandise inspired by Future’s album and its extremely laid-back cover art.

In addition to illustrated apparel bearing an image reminiscent of the hype single, “Worst Day,” the collection includes hoodies and hats emblazoned with the title and Future’s Freebandz logo, a face mask similar to the ones Kanye’s been sporting at his public appearances these days, and yes, a maroon silk sleep mask like the one Future wears on the cover of I Never Liked You. There’s also a sweatshirt with a screenshot from the video for Future and Kanye’s collab from the album, “Keep It Burnin.”

While he’s already riding high on the release and set to easily dethrone Pusha T from the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200, Future also recently released a deluxe edition of the album featuring five new songs, including guest appearances from 42 Dugg, Babyface Ray, Lil Baby, Lil Durk, and Young Scooter. Future Releases New album ‘I Never Liked You’ Feat. Drake, Tems, Gunna, Young Thug & More

unnamed 3 1

The Best Rapper Alive is back! After a month of hype, Future has delivered his latest album, I Never Liked You.

Arriving with the new album is the official video for “Keep It Burnin,” which featured Kanye West.

I Never Liked You is the first album from Future since 2020’s High Off Life. The album enlists Drake, Tems, Young Thug, Gunna, Kodak Black and more for the release.

To that “Best Rapper Alive” claim boasted in Future’s latest cover story in GQ, Hip-Hop journalism legend Elliott Wilson penned, “His impact can’t be denied. Especially not after eight solo albums, 19 solo mixtapes, one collaborative album, four collaborative mixtapes, two EPs, and one soundtrack (for 2018’s Superfly).”

You can read the rest of the case for that title here and check out the new album below.

Future Reveals His ‘I Never Liked You’ Tracklist, Which Features Drake, Kanye West, Tems, And More

When you think about it, it’s kind of fitting that Future’s new album, which is titled I Never Liked You, features both Drake and Kanye West. For one thing, those two can’t seem to decide if they love or hate each other and for another, they are also two of the only artists who can really keep up with Future’s penchant for pettiness. They’re just two of the guests who appear on the tracklist for the album, which Future shared today.

Some of the other guests are no surprise; after all, Future graced Gunna’s hit single “Pushin P” alongside Young Thug earlier this year, so it’s only right that his ATL brethren return the favor on a similarly ridiculously titled song, “For A Nut.” And Kodak Black makes sense since he’s on something of a comeback tour of feature appearances despite his past behavior (and let’s face it, Future isn’t exactly known for being respectful of women, either).

But the name that really jumps off the list is Nigerian singer Tems, who exploded into popularity last year via Wizkid’s “Essence” and has slowly started to become a force in her own right. She appears on a song with Drake (one of two featuring the What A Time To Be Alive collaborator), which increases the intrigue that much more. We’ll see what the results of the eyebrow-raising musical collaboration sound like on Friday, April 29, when I Never Liked You drops via Freebandz and Epic.
