Four Years Later, Taylor Swift’s 2019 Single ‘Cruel Summer’ Is No. 1, Helping Swift Reach A Historic Chart Milestone

Every Monday, Billboard unveils the top 10 songs on the latest Hot 100 chart. The most recent rankings, for the chart dated October 28, are out now, so let’s run down who had this week’s biggest hits.

10. Morgan Wallen — “Thinkin’ Bout Me”

“Thinkin’ Bout Me” had a huge week, climbing all the way from No. 25 and making its way back into the top 10. Actually, a lot of songs are returning to the top 10 this week, after Drake dominated last week’s Hot 100 with songs from his new album For All The Dogs.

9. Morgan Wallen — “Last Night”

Former No. 1 “Last Night” had a similar journey, rebounding from No. 19 to No. 9 this week.

8. Drake — “First Person Shooter” Feat. J. Cole

Drake didn’t depart the top 10 entirely, as he still has two songs in the region, including “First Person Shooter,” which was J. Cole’s first-ever No. 1 song.

7. Luke Combs — “Fast Car”

Combs never quite reached No. 1, but “Fast Car” has had some impressive longevity, hanging around the top 10 after spending eight weeks at its No. 2 peak.

6. Zach Bryan — “I Remember Everything” Feat. Kacey Musgraves

“I Remember Everything” is all over the charts, as it’s currently No. 1 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and Hot Rock Songs charts (for an eighth week) and the Hot Country Songs chart (for a fourth week).

5. Bad Bunny — “Monaco”

The biggest debut of the week goes to Bad Bunny, whose new Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va A Pasar Mañana single “Monaco” enters the chart at No. 5 after its release and Saturday Night Live performance.

4. Drake — “IDGAF” Feat. Yeat

“IDGAF” debuted at No. 2 last week and the Yeat-featuring Drake hit had only a modest slide down to No. 4 this week.

3. SZA — “Snooze”

Another song that hasn’t quite hit No. 1 yet, “Snooze” is No. 3 on the Hot 100 but No. 1 on the Radio Songs chart for a third week.

2. Doja Cat — “Paint The Town Red”

“Paint The Town Red” has so far spent three non-consecutive weeks at No. 1, but it won’t add onto that tally this week, as it was kept out of the top spot by…

1. Taylor Swift — “Cruel Summer”

Swift recently decided to release the 2019 song “Cruel Summer” as a single here in 2023, and because she’s Taylor Swift, it was worked tremendously. “Cruel Summer” is now Swift’s milestone tenth No. 1 single. That’s puts her in historic company, as the only other artists with double-digit No. 1’s are Stevie Wonder, Janet Jackson (10 each), Whitney Houston (11), The Supremes, Madonna (12 each), Michael Jackson, Drake (13 each), Rihanna (14), Mariah Carey (19), and The Beatles (20).

Tay Keith Reacts To Helping Drake With Another Number One Hit

Last week Drake released For All The Dogs and now the news of just how commercially dominant it was is clear and Tay Keith is celebrating. That included the album landing at number one on the Billboard 200 with almost as many sales as the rest of the top 10. It also propelled Drake to the top of the Artists 100 where he’s spent 38 weeks. His collaboration with Bad Bunny also gave him his third chart-topper on the Hot Latin Songs chart. But where Drake really ran up the score is on the Hot 100.

The entirety of his new album For All The Dogs landed on the Hot 100 this week. Even more impressive, all 23 tracks are inside the top 50, making up 7 of the top 10 and 14 of the top 20. The collaboration with J. Cole “First Person Shooter” debuted at number one on the Hot 100. It marked the first number-one hit of J. Cole’s career and once again landed Drake in the history books. The song marks Drake’s thirteenth number-one hit putting him in a tie with Michael Jackson for the most among male soloists. Now, the song’s producer Tay Keith is reacting to the role he played in the legendary achievement. Check out his tweet below.

Tay Keith Celebrates Another Number One With Drake

“Being apart of history breaking michael jackson record for most hot100 #1s is insane dawg,” Tay Keith tweeted yesterday. This is the third of Drake’s number one hits that Keith has played a part of. He served as producer on Travis Scott’s “SICKO MODE” which features Drake and the 21 Savage collaboration “Jimmy Cooks.”

Some fans are arguing that Michael should still be ahead of Drake on the charts. Jackson technically has more number-one hits as a member of The Jackson Five, which is counted separately from his individual hits by some. What do you think of Drake tying Michael Jackson for all-time number one hits among male solo artists? Let us know in the comment section below.

Drake Gets His 13th No. 1 Single And J. Cole Lands His First As ‘First Person Shooter’ Debuts At No. 1 On The Hot 100

Every Monday, Billboard unveils the top 10 songs on the latest Hot 100 chart. The most recent rankings, for the chart dated October 21, are out now, so let’s run down who had this week’s biggest hits.

10. Drake — “Fear Of Heights”

Get ready for a lot of Drake, as he has pretty much every song in this week’s top 10 with the release of his new album, For All The Dogs. The album, by the way, just debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, making it his 13th chart-topper.

9. Taylor Swift — “Cruel Summer”

“Cruel Summer” is one of just three non-Drake songs in this week’s top 10, which makes it all the more impressive considering the track was originally released back in 2019.

8. Drake — “Daylight”

This one features a verse from Drake’s 6-year-old son Adonis, making this the boy’s first top-10 appearance. A full version of Adonis’ freestyle was actually just released as its own song.

7. SZA — “Snooze”

After achieving a peak at No. 2 previously, SZA’s “Snooze” is down to No. 7 this week. This isn’t the last of SZA we’re gonna see on this rundown, though…

6. Drake — “Slime You Out” Feat. SZA

“Slime You Out” previously reached No. 1, and now it remains in the top 10, joined by a bevy of its For All The Dogs brethren.

5. Drake — “Calling For You” Feat. 21 Savage

Drake is bringing his pals along for the chart success ride, too: “Calling For You” is the 15th top-10 single for international traveler 21 Savage.

4. Doja Cat — “Paint The Town Red”

Hats off to Doja Cat, who managed to stake her claim at No. 4 this week despite the sea of fresh Drake tracks that surrounds “Paint The Town Red.”

3. Drake — “Virginia Beach”

“Virginia Beach” has clearly proven to be an early favorite from the album, although its lead-off position in the tracklist surely helped it get more spins, since it gets played every time somebody starts a full-album playthrough.

2. Drake — “IDGAF” Feat. Yeat

This is a major moment for Yeat, as “IDGAF” is the California rapper’s first top-10 single. His previous high was 2022’s “Talk,” a gold-certified single that peaked at No. 42.

1. Drake — “First Person Shooter” Feat. J. Cole

J. Cole has been one of hip-hop’s most respected artists for years, but now he’s finally done it: With some help from Drake, Cole officially has his first No. 1 single. “First Person Shooter” is Drake’s 13th No. 1, which ties him with Michael Jackson for the most No. 1 singles among male solo artists. Overall, he’s still behind Rihanna (14 No. 1 songs), Mariah Carey (19), and The Beatles (20).

Drake Lands Every Song From “For All The Dogs” In The Hot 100

Yesterday, Drake’s For All The Dogs made its impressive debut at number one on the Billboard 200. The album sold more than 400k copies in its first week almost eclipsing the total sales of the rest of the top 10 combined. The album marked his 13th number-one album and broke a tie with Taylor Swift for third all-time. He trails only The Beatles and Jay-Z in terms of all-time number one albums. His climb higher up the all-time list may have to wait as he’s expected to take some time off following this newest project.

In addition to his excellence on the Billboard 200, Drake is also continuing his dominance on the Hot 100. All 23 songs from For All The Dogs landed on the Hot 100 this week. As if that wasn’t impressive enough on its own, they’re all inside the top 50. That means that nearly half of the entire top 50 belongs to songs from For All The Dogs. He also appears as a feature alongside Travis Scott on the song “Meltdown” which comes in at number 59 on this week’s chart. He also holds 7 of the top 10 songs on the chart, the 4th time he’s done so all following the release of new albums. Check out where all the songs ended up below.

Drake Shows Up 24 Times On The Hot 100

Drake’s new album has an absolutely stacked feature list. SZA, J. Cole, Lil Yachty, Bad Bunny, SZA, Yeat, Chief Keef, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Sexyy Red, 21 Savage, and Teezo Touchdown all appear on the record. The J. Cole collab “First Person Shooter” debuted at the number one spot on the chart, marking Cole’s first ever number one hit.

The 24-song total is three short of Drake’s personal record. He placed 27 songs in the Hot 100 the week following the release of his album Scorpion in 2018. What do you think of Drake debuting the entire tracklist of his new album For All The Dogs in the Hot 100? Let us know in the comment section below.

Doja Cat Extends Her No. 1 Run On The ‘Billboard’ Hot 100 While Jung Kook And Jack Harlow Score The Week’s Biggest Debut

Every Monday, Billboard unveils the top 10 songs on the latest Hot 100 chart. The most recent rankings, for the chart dated October 14, are out now, so let’s run down who had this week’s biggest hits.

10. Rema and Selena Gomez — “Calm Down”

Rema and Gomez’s “Calm Down” is starting to do just that, as their pair’s hit fell from No. 9 to rounding out the top 10 this week. It previously peaked at No. 3.

9. Olivia Rodrigo — “Vampire”

Rodrigo’s “Vampire” is also cooling off some, as it was No. 7 this week but now finds itself at No. 9. What’s red-hot, though, is the buzz surrounding her exclusive concert tonight.

8. Gunna — “F*kumean”

Gunna recently joked about his weight loss, but he’s not losing on the Hot 100, where “F*kumean” is No. 8 just like it was last week.

7. Morgan Wallen — “Last Night”

After a record 16 weeks at No. 1 (the most ever for a non-collaboration), Wallen’s “Last Night” is still hanging around the top 10, dropping from 6 to 7 this week.

6. Zach Bryan — “I Remember Everything” Feat. Kacey Musgraves

“I Remember Everything” had a one-spot dip this week, but it’s currently atop the Streaming Songs, Hot Rock & Alternative Songs, and Hot Rock Songs charts.

5. Jung Kook — “3D” Feat. Jack Harlow

This week’s biggest debut belongs to Jung Kook and Harlow. With the first week on the Hot 100 for “3D,” Jung Kook becomes the first BTS member with multiple top-10 solo songs.

4. Luke Combs — “Fast Car”

Combs’ Tracy Chapman cover is still bobbing around the top 10: It peaked at No. 2, it was No. 3 last week, and now it’s taken a slight dip to No. 4.

3. Taylor Swift — “Cruel Summer”

Summer’s over but Swiftie season never really seems to be: “Cruel Summer” had a bit of a rebound this week, jumping from No. 4 to No. 3.

2. SZA — “Snooze”

“Snooze” achieved a new Hot 100 best at No. 2 last week and it’s continuing to ride that high by holding down the silver-medal spot for a second consecutive week.

1. Doja Cat — “Paint The Town Red”

Last week, “Paint The Town Red” became Doja’s first song to spend multiple weeks at No. 1, and now it continues to increase Doja’s duration record with a third nonconsecutive week on top.

Some artists covered here are Warner Music artists. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Doja Cat’s “Paint The Town Red” Tops Hot 100 For A Third Week

Last month, Doja Cat’s single “Paint The Town Red” ended a long-running streak on the Hot 100. It had been more than a year since a rap song was sitting atop the charts dating back to Nicki Minaj’s “Super Freaky Girl.” Minaj’s single debuted at the #1 spot before falling back in week two. It took more than 12 months and deep into 2023 for another rap song to occupy the spot. Technically one other rapper has been at the top spot on the charts since then, when Latto appeared there for a verse she gave on the Jung Kook song “Seven.”

Now Doja Cat was fighting for a third week at the top of the charts and once again faced Jung Kook as a challenger. The K-pop superstar dropped a new song with Jack Harlow called “3D” that was expected to make a high debut. The song ended up tapping in at number 5 in its first week on the charts and “Paint The Town Red” held firm at the top spot. The top 3 spots on the chart round out with SZA’s “Snooze” and Taylor Swift’s “Cruel Summer” making it the first time in over 7 months that the top three spots were all occupied by women. Check out the full top 10 below.

Doja Cat Scores A Third Non-Consecutive Week At #1

Doja’s run at the top spot hasn’t come in consecutive weeks. In between her three-week run Drake and SZA debuted their new single “Slime You Out,” at the top spot on the charts. Following the release of Drake’s new album For All The Dogs his collaboration with J. Cole “First Person Shooter” is expected to debut at the top spot next week.

Drake is expected to debut all 23 of the songs on his new album on the Hot 100 next week. That drop could spell the end of some notable Hot 100 runs. In particular, Taylor Swift and Ice Spice’s collaboration “Karma” has the potential to leave the charts. What do you think of Doja Cat scoring another week at the top spot on the Hot 100? Let us know in the comment section below.

When Does The ‘Billboard’ Hot 100 Update?

Each week, Billboard releases the list of songs featured on the Hot 100 chart. The ranking is determined by combining data from both sales and streaming numbers of all songs, which is compiled by Luminate.

When Does The Billboard Hot 100 Update?

Typically, the Billboard Hot 100 chart changes every Tuesday morning — along with most of their charts in general. The website notes that if there is a holiday that falls on a Monday, the chart’s update might be delayed until Wednesday of that week. Or if there’s just any sort of issue that prompts it to be postponed.

Fans can find the Hot 100 under Billboard‘s Chart News section each week for an early glimpse, too, as stories tied to the updated chart are typically released on Monday afternoons. So, basically, you would know who would be at the top spots before it technically updates.

For those who have other specific questions about the Hot 100 chart, Billboard‘s website mentions either emailing, contacting their Chart Beat editors, or submitting questions to their reader mailbag. The information on that can be found here.

On this week’s Hot 100, Doja Cat’s “Paint The Town Red” returned to No. 1, followed by SZA’s “Snooze,” Luke Combs’ cover of “Fast Car,” Taylor Swift’s “Cruel Summer,” and Zach Bryan’s collab with Kacey Musgraves on “I Remember Everything.”

Doja Cat Lands Her First Multi-Week No. 1 Hit As ‘Paint The Town Red’ Returns To The Top Of The ‘Billboard’ Hot 100

Every Monday, Billboard unveils the top 10 songs on the latest Hot 100 chart. The most recent rankings, for the chart dated October 7, are out now, so let’s run down who had this week’s biggest hits.

10. Dua Lipa — “Dance The Night”

Lipa may have moved on to new movie project (the Argylle trailer just dropped last week), but her Barbie hit still has legs as it rounds out this week’s top 10.

9. Rema and Selena Gomez — “Calm Down”

Rema and Selena find themselves back in the top 10 this week after spending last week at No. 11. The song is also killing it on the US Afrobeats chart, where it’s No. 1 for a record-extending 57th week.

8. Gunna — “F*kumean”

In addition to “F*kumean” sticking around in the top 10, Gunna also recently put on a heck of a show at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, as Uproxx’s Wongo Okon notes.

7. Olivia Rodrigo — “Vampire”

After returning to No. 1 recently, “Vampire” is sitting comfortably at No. 7, the same position as last week.

6. Morgan Wallen — “Last Night”

“Last Night” just won’t go away: It was No. 8 last week, but now the 16-week No. 1 hit rises slightly to No. 6.

5. Zach Bryan — “I Remember Everything” Feat. Kacey Musgraves

After debuting at No. 1 four weeks ago, Bryan and Musgraves hold steady at No. 5, while the song is No. 1 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and Hot Rock Songs charts for a fifth week.

4. Taylor Swift — “Cruel Summer”

After reaching as high as No. 3 and living at No. 6 last week, Swift’s “Cruel Summer” returns to the top 5 at No. 4, which is pretty good for a song that originally came out in 2019.

3. Luke Combs — “Fast Car”

Combs’ Tracy Chapman cover continues to be a consistent top-10 presence on the Hot 100 as it spends its second week at No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart.

2. SZA — “Snooze”

“Snooze” was No. 3 last week, and while it didn’t claim the top spot, it did reach a new high at No. 2 this week.

1. Doja Cat — “Paint The Town Red”

“Paint The Town Red” previously spent a single week back at No. 1, but after a spell away, the song is back on top, making it Doja’s first song to spend multiple weeks at No. 1.

Some artists covered here are Warner Music artists. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Doja Cat Keeps Dominating The Billboard Hot 100 With “Paint The Town Red”

Doja Cat’s Scarlet is still in heavy rotation, it seems, as the new album’s biggest hit single continues to dominate the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Moreover, “Paint The Town Red” bounced back from No. 2 to return to the No. 1 spot on the ranking, beating out artists like Taylor Swift, SZA, and more. In addition, it marks her first multi-week chart-topping song, as her previous No. 1 hit “Say So” with Nicki Minaj held the placement for a single week. Just three weeks earlier, the Los Angeles native’s single became the first hip-hop record to reach the top spot in over a year. The last track to do so was the Queen’s “Super Freaky Girl,” and it’s funny to see all these links pop up with their commercial performances.

Furthermore, this is proving to be a great year for Doja Cat, even despite her relationship with her fans and what her fans think of her rumored relationship. WIth Scarlet, she pretty effectively switched lanes into more straightforward, but nonetheless engaging rap fare. Given that “Paint The Town Red” is a solid fusion of the “Balut” MC’s various styles, it’s no wonder that this was the track to make it big. That being said, don’t let that assessment keep you sleeping on the rest of the tracklist, because there’s a lot of quality to find.

Doja Cat’s “Paint The Town Red”: Watch The Music Video

Other big names on the Billboard Hot 100 for this charting week include Taylor Swift’s “Cruel Summer,” which rose from No. 6 to No. 4. SZA also continues to show that she’s a commercial and critical darling, as “Snooze” occupied the second spot. Funnily enough, this is her third track to get to either No. 1 or 2 (all of which were this year), following “Kill Bill” and “Slime You Out” with Drake. There’s been some steep chart competition in 2023, although admittedly not as much as other years.

Meanwhile, Scarlet itself is also proving itself to be quite successful on the Billboard charts, exceeding initial expectations. With just three months left to go in the year, there’s still time for Doja to etch herself more firmly in the 2023 chart history books. We’ll see how much further along “Paint The Town Red” captivates fans this year. For more news and the latest updates on Doja Cat, stay posted on HNHH.

Drake Is One Song Away From Tying Michael Jackson For Most No. 1s By A Male Soloist

Drake and SZA’s “Slime You Out” kicked off the soon-to-come release of Drizzy’s album For All The Dogs, and got him one step closer to the history books. Moreover, that song went No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, marking his twelfth number one hit and putting him right up there with the legendary Michael Jackson. He has thirteen chart-topping tracks, which means the Toronto rapper is now just one song away from tying him for the fourth-most number ones in Billboard history so far. If you’re curious, he’s currently tied with Madonna and The Supremes for the fifth spot.

Of course, it’s fair to assume that one more track from For All The Dogs might just cinch this achievement for the 36-year-old. Given that his career shows no signs of slowing down, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him work his way up. Ahead of Drake are frequent collaborator Rihanna (14 number ones) and Mariah Carey (19 number ones). At the very top of the list are The Beatles, who have 20 tracks that claimed the top spot across their discography.

Drake & Michael Jackson Almost Have The Same Amount Of No. 1 Songs

In addition, this also marks one of the only hip-hop-adjacent songs that went No. 1 on Billboard this year- the second, to be exact. The first was Doja Cat’s “Paint The Town Red,” which ended a drought in this metric for the genre that existed since Nicki Minaj’s “Super Freaky Girl.” Furthermore, this history sparked a hotly contested conversation around whether rap is a “dying” style, something that artists like Drake continue to disprove. It might not have the same chart-topping record as previous years, but it’s also the calm after a storm that dominated the early 2020s and mid-to-late 2010s. As such, we can’t really complain.

Meanwhile, the OVO superstar also has a lot to look back on and appreciate when it comes to his career. His 2013 album Nothing Was The Same, which established him as a top dog in the game, recently celebrated its tenth anniversary. While reflecting on his previous success, we’ll see if his future one puts The Boy right next to MJ. For more news and the latest updates on Drake and Michael Jackson, stay logged into HNHH.
