Homixide Gang Are Electric On Their New Single “HI-VOLTAGE”

Homixide Gang are back with a new track. The duo has dropped the track “HI-VOLTAGE”, and its one of their most exciting releases to date. The energy of rappers Homixide Meechie and Homixide Beno live up to the title, as they spit over an earworm instrumental produced by UpMadeIt, jstcap and longtime Weeknd collaborator Cxdy.

Homixide Gang is signed to Playboi Carti’s Opium imprint, and their past songs have generally seen take a harder sound that their label boss. On “HI-VOLTAGE”, however, Meechie and Beno trade it the bass hits and synth of a track like “Lifestyle” for a looser sound. The way they flow and the instrumental are much closer in style to what Carti did on 2020’s Whole Lotta Red, and he melodic approach suits the duo.

The sonic qualities of “HI-VOLTAGE” might sound victorious, but the lyrical content is bleak. Meechie and Beno rap about the violence they’ve both witnessed and caused in the streets. The gritty music video for the track ramps up this sense of danger by having the duo recreate scenes from the 2002 gangster film Shottas. The “HI-VOLTAGE” video was shot in the Miami neighborhood of Little Haiti.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “HI-VOLTAGE,” by Homixide Gang? Is this one of the duo’s strongest tracks, or one of their weakest? What is your favorite element of the track and why? Which rapper had the better verse? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Quotable Lyrics:

Told her bring all her friends for the gang
We got the drugs and we smokin’ on pain
Hol’ up, hol’ up, they on the same thing
Codeine in my cup (Codeine in my cup)
Rollin’ that Runtz up inside of my blunt
Gettin’ so high ’til we can’t feel a thing

The Playboi Carti-Approved Homixide Gang Rob Half Of Miami In Their Frenetic ‘Hi-Voltage’ Video

Atlanta has a penchant for spawning attention-grabbing rap duos. However, the Playboi Carti-affiliated Homixide Gang are a far cry from what fans of groups like Outkast and Earthgang may have come to expect. As part of Carti’s bubbling Opium collective, they are a tad bit more traditional than their Goth-inspired brethren like Ken Carson and Destroy Lonely, but their avant-garde take on menacing, take-no-prisoners trap rap leans hard in a different direction from, say, Young Thug, Gunna, or Lil Baby.

The duo’s video for “Hi-Voltage,” their new single, puts that fascinating dichotomy on full display as Beno! and Homixide Meechie post up in the projects to deliver their guttural raps between clips of a violent, crime-ridden narrative. The video depicts them as Omar-like menaces to the ‘hood, pissing off crime lords left-and-right as they rob their way across Miami in a tale reminiscent of City Of God — with the Homixide boys standing in for the film’s villain Li’l Zé.

Homixide Gang was meant to accompany Playboi Carti and the rest of the Opium collective on the Antagonist Tour this year, but the tour was canceled after being postponed multiple times. On the bright side for Homixide Gang, this gives them more time to finish up their upcoming album, i5u5we5.

Playboi Carti’s ‘Antagonist’ Tour Was Reportedly Canceled After Multiple Delays

Bad news for Playboi Carti fans hoping to see him and his Opium cohorts Destroy Lonely, Ken Carson and Homixide Gang on tour this year: The Atlanta rapper’s Antagonist tour has reportedly been canceled, according to Complex. Fans were apparently notified via email after multiple delays, however, Complex‘s report does not offer a reason for the cancelation.

The tour would have been Carti’s first since 2021’s King Vamp Tour, as well as his second since releasing his most recent album, 2020’s Whole Lotta Red. While the rapper has made periodic appearances on other artists’ albums, including Kanye West’s Vultures 1, Travis Scott’s Utopia, and Future and Metro Boomin’s We Don’t Trust You, his long-awaited album Music does not have a release date after being promised in January.

Suffering through unexplained postponements has long been a feature of Playboi Carti fandom, as he infamously pushed back Whole Lotta Red so many times, fans like Mario Judah trolled him by releasing their own projects with the same title. He’s been teasing Music since the holidays in 2022, but despite releasing a string of singles including “H00DByAir” and “Backr00ms” with Travis Scott, he’s still yet to drop a release date for the album. Whether his tour cancelation counts as a setback or sign of increased focus remains to be seen.

Summrs’ Crew Issues Threats, Reportedly Forces Homixide Gang to Cancel Concert

Louisiana rapper Summrs found himself at the center of an altercation with members of Homixide Gang during a recent performance at Box Fest. The aftermath has not only stirred controversy but also allegedly led to the cancellation of an upcoming Homixide Gang show. The cancellation reportedly came amid alleged threats from Summrs’ associates. Videos surfaced online depicting the disturbing incident where Summrs was seemingly jumped by a group of individuals associated with Homixide Gang.

Yesterday, Summrs has taken to social media to address the situation. However, he posted photos of his injuries and made fun of the people who jumped them. He said that it took 20 people to steal his jewelry, and they didn’t even get it all. “Li rino get it on without his potnas n security #Souljashit 😂 #took20yallgetthatjewelry,” he captioned the post. “How yall not get it all😒.”

The confrontation escalated into a full-fledged brawl, with reports indicating that the attackers not only physically assaulted Summrs but also made off with several pieces of his jewelry. The fallout took an even more bizarre turn as fans discovered a listing on Grailed, selling strands of his hair for a staggering $25,000. The unusual auction item adds a surreal dimension to the aftermath of the New York altercation, sparking a mix of shock and disbelief amongst fans.

Online discussions have been fueled with speculation and commentary. Some expressing sympathy for Summrs’ ordeal. One fan commented, “Ngl homicide gang took a L on this one. Summrs was by himself while 10+ n—-s jumped him and pulled his hair. Bro stood on business, but him getting clowned is crazy to me.” Others took a different approach, advising Summrs to focus on his music rather than engaging in social media. One comment read, “Summr, respectfully…we don’t want to see you on the internet wolfing, talking about what you might do. Hold your L and get back in the studio. Them Homicide n—as are there specifically to crash out. You got something to lose, and they don’t.” Stay tuned for more details on HNHH.

Atlanta has had plenty of star-studded rap groups over the genre’s now 50-year history. Obviously, you have some of the top guns like Migos and Outkast, but there are new talents bubbling up to the surface. One of those is the duo of Homixide Beno! and Homixide Meechie. It all started with “SSN,” and their popularity has steadily risen since then.

In this short time frame, the pair has already dropped an album for each year they have been in the industry. Fans got their first full taste of Homixide’s sound with Snotty World (Deluxe). Two of their biggest hits, “55 Lifestyle” and “5unna,” landed on their debut. Then, in 2022, Homixide Lifestyle nabbed some features from other rising stars Ken Carson and Destroy Lonely. Finally, back in April of this year, Snot or Not would bring their total to three with it being a solo project.

Who Are The Openers For Playboi Carti’s ‘Antagonist Tour?’

A few days ago, there were rumors that Playboi Carti was getting ready to announce a tour, rumors prompted by billboard that had popped up. The rumors have been confirmed now, as today (July 12), the rapper announced he’s embarking on the Antagonist Tour. But who is he taking with him?

Carti has a few openers who will join him on the trek, all from his Opium Collective. One of them is Destroy Lonely, an Atlanta rapper who has spent the past few years building buzz with a series of mixtapes. That built up to If Looks Could Kill, his debut album from May that managed a debut at No. 18 on the Billboard 200 chart. (The album was also one of Uproxx’s most anticipated releases of this past spring.) The single “If Looks Could Kill” also made it onto the hip-hop charts.

Also joining the tour is Ken Carson, another Atlanta rapper who found some TikTok fame in late 2022 thanks to a dance to the song that was popularized by folks like Rico Nasty. Then there’s Homixide Gang, who are fresh off performing at Wireless Festival this past weekend. Their latest album, Snot Or Not, just dropped in April.

Check out the upcoming tour dates here.

Playboi Carti Announced The ‘Antagonist Tour’ With Ken Carson, Destroy Lonely, And Homixide Gang

Fans waiting with bated breath for news of Playboi Carti’s next tour can finally exhale; the genre-bending, mystery-shrouded rapper has announced the dates for his upcoming Antagonist Tour. The Antagonist Tour is set to kick off in September, with Carti joined by his Opium Collective compadres Destroy Lonely, Homixide Gang, and Ken Carson. Pre-sale is set to begin on July 12 at noon local time, followed by the general sale on July 14 at noon. You can get more info here.

Carti last released a full-length album in 2020, Whole Lotta Red. Since then, he’s teased a few potential projects, including a follow-up album titled simply Music, a possible joint album with longtime collaborator Lil Uzi Vert, and another joint project with rising star YoungBoy Never Broke Again. Unfortunately, it also turned out he had one other thing in common with NBA YoungBoy: A pretty sh*tty disposition toward women. He was arrested in December last year for felony aggravated assault for allegedly choking his pregnant girlfriend.

Is Playboi Carti Going On Tour Soon?

While there still haven’t been any updates regarding Playboi Carti’s long-awaited follow-up to his 2020 album, Whole Lotta Red. The “Popular” rapper has bought some time thanks to his recent festival run.

After being led on a highway chase following his appearance at Summer Smash 2023, the Playboi Carti might have gotten all the confirmation he needed to hit the road on his own tour. So, that led fans to ask, even without a new album out, is Playboi Carti going to tour soon? Well, according to Our Generation Music, the answer is yes. The outlet tweeted a billboard image alleging Carti’s next tour is in the works. But he won’t be gracing the stage alone.

In the image, not only is Playboi Carti photographed, but fellow recording artists Destroy Lonely, Ken Carson, and Homixide Gang are also listed in what is being dubbed the Antagonist Tour. Although Carti has remained radio silent on social media, seemingly since his arrest for felony aggravated assault in 2022, his rumored tourmate, Homixide Gang, took to Twitter to seemingly confirm the rumor.

No further information on the supposed Antagonist Tour is known at this time. However, fans are presumably beginning to budget just in case it turns out to be true.
