Fivio Foreign Was Asked ‘Clean Up’ A Song From His Album That Sampled Destiny Child’s ‘Say My Name’

In just a few hours, Fivio Foreign will finally release his debut album B.I.B.L.E. The project is one that arrives after almost three years after Fivio had his breakout moment with 2019’s “Big Drip.” So far, the album is led by a pair of strong singles: “City Of Gods” with Kanye West, who will executive produce B.I.B.L.E., and Alicia Keys as well as “Magic City” with Quavo. Ahead of the project’s release tonight, Fivio spoke about one of its songs, which samples Destiny’s Child’sSay My Name,” and he explained what he had to do to get the record cleared.

“Shoutout Destiny’s Child, appreciate that, they cleared that joint. [John “Big John” Platt] and them,” Fivio said during an interview on Hot 97 when he was asked about “What’s My Name,” a song from B.I.B.L.E. that features Coi Leray and Queen Naija. Fivio then confirmed that Beyonce heard the song, but did not clear it without a few requests. “She had to hear it,” he said. “She heard it. It was a little vulgar, a little bit for her, at first. I cleaned it up, I cleaned it up, I cleaned it up a lot. It was like, ‘You can’t be talking about girls like that!”

He later added, “Afterward, Big John and them explained to me, it’s a bigger record now and it made sense.” Fivio continued, “One day they called me and they was like ‘Yo, Big John wanna talk to you,” and I’m like damn, the album drops in a week. I’m thinking straight bad news, I ain’t gonna lie, cause I had to go back. It was like alright, you cleaned your part up, clean these other words up. Then it was like clean Coi’s part up a little bit and I’m like damn, so it’s over?” Thankfully for Fivio, the phone call came with good news. “So he called me, it was ringing, I answered the phone, and I’m like ‘Hello?’ and he’s like ‘You’re welcome.’ I’m like what? Is it cleared? He’s like, ‘you’re welcome.’”

You can watch Fivio speak about the Destiny’s Child-sampling song in the video above.

B.I.B.L.E. is out 4/8 via Columbia. You can pre-save it here.

21 Savage’s Immigration Case Has Been Delayed By Criminal Charges Against Him

Over a year after being detained by ICE over his expired visa, 21 Savage was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of a firearm. Those charges are now affecting his fight for legal immigration status, according to his lawyer Charles Kuck. TMZ reports Kuck says that due to the criminal charges, Savage’s immigration case has been put on pause until the charges can be resolved.

The charges stem from the rapper’s initial arrest in February of 2019, when federal agents and police say they found a handgun in his car after he threw an empty bottle of codeine out of the vehicle. However, charges weren’t filed against him until September of 2021 — which Kuck believes was prompted by an ICE request after the rapper’s plight threw unwanted attention on the organization. ICE was already under scrutiny for its handling of the ongoing border crisis, and the negative publicity from arresting the “Bank Account” rapper only brought harsher criticism.

The ICE case was initially prompted by felony drug charges against the rapper which, by the time he was arrested had already been vacated. Meanwhile, Savage, who is originally from the UK and had been living in the US on an expired visa since he was 13 without knowing it, was already looking to correct his visa status at the time he was arrested, which his lawyers believe was the real reason ICE targeted him. Since his immigration case is ongoing, he cannot leave the country, although he is allowed to travel domestically for shows.

The Woman Accusing Snoop Dogg Of Sexual Assault Has Dropped Her Lawsuit

The woman who sued Snoop Dogg for allegedly sexually assaulting her in 2013 has dropped her lawsuit, according to Billboard. The anonymous accuser asked a judge in a motion filed in Los Angeles federal court yesterday to dismiss the case “in its entirety.” No reason was given for the request to dismiss the suit but the Jane Doe accuser still has the right to refile some other time.

The plaintiff’s motion to dismiss the case was filed after Snoop Dogg requested the same thing a few weeks after the initial lawsuit. In that filing, Snoop’s lawyer characterized the lawsuit as “a thinly veiled attempt to extort” Snoop for money. “Nothing remotely resembling plaintiff’s story about defendant Calvin Broadus ever happened,” the motion read. ” “He vehemently denies ever engaging in any sex act with plaintiff or assaulting or battering her. She provides no allegations of any statement by defendant that he would help her career, and no allegations of any statement about how defendant might advance her career. Instead, the only allegation plaintiff makes is that [co-defendant Donald] Campbell — not defendant — said going to the studio where defendant was would be ‘a career move.’”

In the lawsuit, which was filed in February of 2021 just days before the rapper performed at the Super Bowl, the woman claimed that Snoop’s associate and frequent collaborator, Bishop Don Magic Juan forced her to have oral sex with him. She also says that Snoop offered to make her a weather girl on his GGN YouTube show but later refused to hire her after also forcing oral sex on her. In March, the woman updated the lawsuit after Snoop’s initial defense, prompting him to once again request to have the lawsuit tossed.

Megan Thee Stallion Has A New Song She Wants To Debut At Coachella

Megan Thee Stallion has been good to fans this year as she’s dropped a pair of singles so far in 2022: the Shenseea collaboration “Lick” and the Dua Lipa link-up “Sweetest Pie.” She has more new material ready to go, too, and she might event debut it when she performs as Coachella later this month, from April 15 to 17 and 22 to 24.

Megan teased these plans today, writing on Twitter, “I got this song that I recorded and every time I play it for a woman they start jumping and clapping [crying laughing emoji]. I think I wanna perform it at Coachella for the first time before I actually drop it.” She also noted in response to a Twitter user, “Guys be like ‘this sh*t hard’ but I think my girls just feel it in they spirit [crying laughing emoji].”

Coachella is the latest event in a particularly busy period for Megan. She just picked up a Webby Award nomination, she and Dua Lipa presented together at the Grammys, she performed at the Oscars (becoming the first female rapper to do so), and she pie’d one of her dancers on stage at the iHeartRadio awards.

The Weeknd Just Put Out An ‘Out of Time’ Single On A Playable Saw Blade

The marketing cycle for an album in 2022 sure has changed a lot. Take The Weeknd’s Dawn FM, which has already seen an Amazon special, an alternate version album, NFT collectibles in conjunction with Tom Brady, Jim Carrey, mysterious phone numbers, and a highly-anticipated tour with Doja Cat. So the next logical step for The Weeknd is… a limited edition vinyl record that’s actually on a playable Skil saw blade. Why not?

The Weeknd has indeed announced just that. The new very limited edition 12″ single of “Out Of Time” is being released on a saw blade. The drop even has its own website called winylblade.com and it’s all a collaboration with Brooklyn-based viral marketing/design company MSCHF — the same people behind Lil Nas X’s “Satan shoes” with a drop of human blood in them.

“The record grooves are engraved into a copper band via direct metal mastering, which is then inset in the saw blade body,” a release for the drop says. “The blade itself is a carbide-tipped 12″ combo blade–for both rips and crosscuts–with powder-coated color and graphics.”

There are only 25 copies of the “Out Of Time” vinyl blade, which is up for auction on the website for the next 24 hours starting at a cool $1,000. This has big Nipsey Hussle $100 mixtape vibes. But who else can claim that you can build a house with their music besides The Weeknd? Genius.

Check out all of the detailed info and even place a bid here. You can peep a couple of photos below as well.

Wom/n Worldwide Spotlights The Wins We Should Be Talking About This Awards Season

Our favorite season? Awards season, and even though Hollywood is rolling up the red carpets, we’re here to celebrate the history-making wins and nominations that should’ve dominated headlines this year.

First up? The Oscars.

Host Drew Dorsey recapped the glitz and glamour of the film industry’s most iconic awards show by hyping the women who made huge strides in their categories. Save your hot takes on the Will Smith and Chris Rock drama because we’re here for Jane Campion’s historic nomination (and win) for her work directing The Power of the Dog. The Netflix Western also snagged cinematographer Ari Wegner a history-making nod — she became just the second woman recognized by the Academy in the Best Cinematography category — and, as a bonus, it gave us all the gift of seeing Benedict Cumberbatch don a pair of leather chaps.

But it’s not just in the movies that women are making moves. Drew highlights the many femme artists headlining this year’s GRAMMYs potential winners list. From Olivia Rodrigo’s huge wins to Doja Cat slaying the red carpet and H.E.R. taking home her own hardware — women ruled the GRAMMYs stage. Of course, because everyone’s still scandalized by the latest season of Netflix’s Bridgerton, Drew also had to give the two femme composers who crafted an entire musical based on the show’s first season, their rightful due.

You can watch all that plus a highlight reel featuring everyone from Zendaya and Sian Heder to movies like Disney’s Turning Red in the video above.

Alicia Keys Has Big Slick Rick Energy In Her Vidoe For ‘City Of Gods Part II’

As has become her custom, Alicia Keys has released a solo version of her recent single, “City Of Gods.” While the original “City Of Gods” features both Kanye West and Fivio Foreign, on “City Of Gods Part II,” Keys strips back the production, turning her latest ode to the Big Apple into a tender ballad. The new video features Alicia showing off a Mercedes-Benz concept car, as well as being coronated by a New York rap icon. Slick Rick appears in the video, bequeathing a large and heavy-looking collection of chains to Alicia, who stoically regards the camera as her neck gets chunkier and chunkier.

Included in that collection is one of Keys’ own chains, which she commissioned from famed New York jeweler Elliante And Co. to commemorate her latest album, KEYS. The glittering neckpiece features a rendition of a set of piano keys with the singer’s signature and received praise from both her husband Swizz Beatz and Jay-Z. Jay-Z was Alicia’s collaborator on a prior record celebrating New York City, “Empire State of Mind,” which she also remixed after its initial success. Whether “City Of Gods II” leads into another body of work for 2022 remains to be seen.

Japanese Breakfast Was In The Bathroom With Doja Cat For Her Famous 2022 Grammys Pee

Doja Cat had what is surely the most famous music urination in recent memory, when she nearly missed the chance to accept her Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance because she was in the bathroom. Fellow Grammy nominee Japanese Breakfast (aka Michelle Zauner) had a unique perspective on that bit of Grammys history as she was actually in the bathroom with Doja during that fateful pee.

Zauner broke down different parts of her 2022 Grammys experience in a new Pitchfork feature and she noted of Doja:

“I went out during a commercial break and I was in the bathroom. Doja Cat came in, and I was like, ‘OMG, it’s Doja Cat! She’s going to pee next to me.’ Then some woman came in and was like, ‘Doja Cat! Doja Cat! Doja Cat!’ And all of sudden she was, like, yanking her by the wrists past me, and her skirt flew up and she flashed her ass to everyone running in to go and accept her award. They close the door and hold them during a commercial break, and once the show starts, they don’t let anyone back in, and so she was running with Doja Cat because she had just won.”

We now have a look at basically every part of that moment, as Zauner’s story comes shortly after video of Doja’s sprint from the bathroom to the stage surfaced.

She also discusses getting a photo with BTS and more, so check out the feature here.
